While we want to help our students persevere, many have already overcome multiple obstacles just to make it to your class. Keep this reality in mind when you plan, instruct, and assess each and every individual you teach. #HackLearning
A fun resource my Ss LOVE is https://t.co/FM0rn9kSGW@gimkit We use it for reviewing concepts and 'ticket out' competitions. It is created and maintained by a high school student and perfect for middle schoolers! Thank you @matthew_grillo for introducing it to me! #HackLearning

A fav #2018 tip of mine is leveraging your environment to create habits, from Atomic Habits, by James Clear. For example, leave apples in places you spend lots of time, and you'll eat more apples. How can you do this in your space?

To help build relationships, try talking to each one of your Ss about something unrelated to class OUTSIDE OF YOUR ROOM at least once a week for the rest of the year. Little things like this outside the class will pay off big time inside it! #hacklearninghttps://t.co/q4IAEHq9Eh
This one is an easy one that reaps HUGE benefits -
Tell your Ss that you're proud of them. Many of them don't hear that kind of thing enough, and it will go a long way with them.

Listen to gain understand: Many leaders are too quick to take charge, but effective leaders listen to understand those who follow. A good leader listens to what every person believes is important to understand the needs of students and/or colleagues #hacklearning#leadforward

We have the same standards, but haven't collaborated? I have no idea how the educator down the hall, two miles away, in the next district, or four hours away is teaching and learning the same standards. It's 2019--Is that okay? I'm trying #GridPlans. #HackNetworking#Hacklearning
With parent permission I would talk about a tv show I knew the kids watched. It was considered the best thing a Sr put down as his memory! #HackLearning
The moral foundation of education is providing every child access to learning regardless of readiness levels, SES level or ability; we accept, support & nurture every learner & that’s not a choice, it’s our calling! #HackLearning#HackingLeadership

Open: I wonder why someone drank my last Diet Coke.
Closed: Who drank my last Diet Coke?

Our Ss can succeed when they view failure as a stepping stone to success rather than a halt in their learning journey. This short excerpt from 'uNforgettable' gives one example of how many Ss already welcome failure because they know it will help them succeed. #HackLearning

We use the term Guest Teacher. We want students to see that they are guests in our space and are the teacher to help guide them with their learning. The plans we leave are not toss aways but intentional bc student learning is that important. #hacklearning
#HackLearning Suzy, i have just checked out @unsplash, and it has great photos, qnd from our pov, we can use them in our educational software - we are currently sourcing animals of the world!

A wonderful go-to resource from #2018 is the @calm app. It makes meditation and mindfulness easy for children and adults. A clear head is crucial to our success and to the success of our students. How do you use Calm?

Embarrased? NOOO! To me, a great sub is priceless! Gives peace to the educator that all is well while absent, and #GridPlans helps to ensure translation and implementation of expectations. That's where #GridPlans originated (see first paragraph). #Hacklearning#HackSubPlans

Independent reading time shouldn’t be a filler or a privilege or something that a class gets to if there is time; instead it should be a daily priority that is sacred. Reading is thinking, learning & exploring possibilities! #HackingLeadership#HackLearning

I’ve started using @Screencastify to be able to show and explain to Ts how to do or find certain things online. This way I can get to everyone at once plus it’s there for them to refer back to! #hacklearning
Well-said! I have verbalized "Guest Teacher" to my learners, but I wasn't sure if that phrase would translate to the education system at large, as in the might confuse with"Guest Speaker." #Hacklearning#HackSubPlans#GridPlans
I’ve bookmarked a ton this morning to read 😀 Need to get organized for Christmas and then I will dive in ❤️ Have a wonderful holiday #HackLearning friends 🎄🤶🎅🎉
Compassionate schools find their roots inside of classrooms, with teachers who model self-compassion and coach the development of powerful practices that shift school culture one learner, one classroom at a time #CompassionateClassrooms#HackLearning
Concept I worked with a lot the past 5-6 years is formative rather than summative job assessments. Being a strong believer in assessment for learning and not using the same paradigm for adults created a lot of cognitive dissonance and led to huge results for us. #hacklearning
Have a wonderful holiday, all! I'm so grateful for you and for @conniehamilton too. You do much to support us, Connie. Hope the new year is good to you. #HackLearning
Hacking a Restorative Culture- When a student breaks an expectation, two questions that should be asked: 1) what happened (seek to understand) 2) what can you do to repair the harm you caused (ownership and responsibility). The effect are truly transformative. #HackLearning
To my #hacklearning family -
