A2-When I took my rescue dog to behaviour training, they always said use positive reinforcement. Sometimes that is tough because emotions got in the way...I wanted them to learn so badly that sometimes I compromised. Keep on trying... #NVedchat

YES! realistic pacing-if we are doing formatives then we can't always follow a publisher based pacing guide-know your kids & adjust on the journey #nvedchat

  • AndersonEdTech Jan 22 @ 10:13 PM EST
I have no qualms about making a fool out of myself, it happens and I emphasize with Ss that it's a great time to learn to be better rather than get frustrated and/or quit #nvedchat

I think your picture says a lot. Sometime we feel we are in charge but are being lead and other times we need to pull them along. all that matters is we end up in the same place. #NVedchat

A3-Students must own the process of learning and have a voice in it. Can't always be an educator that leads. We are their guide and the students must lead, then they'll fall in love with learning the content. #NVedchat
    • BonanzaFire Jan 22 @ 10:14 PM EST

  • MaggieJCox Jan 22 @ 10:18 PM EST
So I pretty much say “great question, I don’t know” at least once a day Teachers don’t need to have all the answers, we want students asking questions that don’t have clear answers #NVedchat

R3: I've always taught students who dislike math and dislike school. I take my job seriously but I don't take myself seriously, and I think that helps us connect. #nvedchat
  • Snehalstocks - Moderator Jan 22 @ 10:18 PM EST
Agreed students need to have a voice and varied options on how to learn. #NVedchat
  • BonanzaFire Jan 22 @ 10:19 PM EST

A3 my hope is that I spark enough interest in topics in class that they want to pursue it on their own #NVedchat
  • EVinNV Jan 22 @ 10:20 PM EST
It doesn't become a failure until one gives up. Continuously working with teachers and students to continue to try (and want to try) will yield positive results. #nvedchat

  • BDicksonNV Jan 22 @ 10:20 PM EST
A4 keep em up and moving-remember that student attention span is about their (or in my case my age minus 30 ) less teacher talk more student talk #nvedchat

Q4- Dogs are super energetic one second and the next second they are fast asleep. What technique do you use to keep your students interested? #nvedchat @Snehalstocks
  • MsHaughs Jan 22 @ 10:21 PM EST
A3: One way to make Ss fall in love w/our teaching is to tell a good story. Some of my most engaging lessons were just stories that led into a really great discussion #NVedchat
  • AndersonEdTech Jan 22 @ 10:22 PM EST
I know you'd never be able to figure this out about me, but I've been known to tell a story or three in my day #nvedchat
    In reply to @MsHaughs
  • Snehalstocks - Moderator Jan 22 @ 10:22 PM EST
A4-I used tech breaks every 20 mins so students could chill, relax, and get ready for the next item. Worked great with blocks schedule. They got 3 breaks to reflect on their learning every time they were in class. Plus gave me the same time to recharge as well! #NVedchat
    • BonanzaFire Jan 22 @ 10:19 PM EST

Make it relevant for them. Kids tend to be able to sniff out authenticity vs. fluff - that's why sub plans often flop, we make busy work instead of relevant assignments. #nvedchat

Final Q5: Dogs love to protect and stand up for those who love them. What's 1 technique you use to show your Ss that you will stand up for them? #nvedchat
  • MaggieJCox Jan 22 @ 10:24 PM EST
.@BonanzaFire great question A4 keeping them intrested can be tough that’s why teachers need to keep lots of tools in their tool belts, recognize different learning styles try to accommodate & give options. #NVedchat
  • BDicksonNV Jan 22 @ 10:24 PM EST

  • AndersonEdTech Jan 22 @ 10:26 PM EST
Since I work at a behavior school, I like to tell my Ss that they are there for a mistake and to learn from it, rather than making it who they are and that I will give them the benefit that they are good people that are going to learn from their past #nvedchat

You will never see 100% of adults focused during meetings for more than 15-20 minutes at a time so we shouldn't expect kids to focus that long either. Mix up activity with instruction to keep them engaged and intrigued. #nvedchat
