Q1- Dogs are always happy to see you each day. How do you make sure you express a welcoming climate to your classroom when students enter each day?
#nvedchat
A1-Smile, Smile, Smile! It go a long way and play some music from the 90's or 80's...definitely will get their attention...maybe a chuckle, but more importantly a smile back! #NVedchat
A1 great them by name-hi5 ask how they are doing-take time to ease into the day with community circles to help relieve some of the stresses students bring to school #nvedchat
Q1- Dogs are always happy to see you each day. How do you make sure you express a welcoming climate to your classroom when students enter each day?

Q2- Dogs at times screw up when they are learning new tricks. How do we make failure a stepping stone rather than an end point of learning for Ss?
#nvedchat

A2: failure is a natural part of the learning process. Learning is a process-it takes time. Just like I don’t pick up a golf club & have a perfect swing on the 1st attempt the ama is true with academics. #Nvedchat
Q2- Dogs at times screw up when they are learning new tricks. How do we make failure a stepping stone rather than an end point of learning for Ss?
#nvedchat
A1: As a TOSA I try to create a welcoming learning environment for my Ts with lots of smiles, music, treats, Qs about their lives so I can really get to know them #NVedchat
A2-When I took my rescue dog to behaviour training, they always said use positive reinforcement. Sometimes that is tough because emotions got in the way...I wanted them to learn so badly that sometimes I compromised. Keep on trying... #NVedchat
Q2- Dogs at times screw up when they are learning new tricks. How do we make failure a stepping stone rather than an end point of learning for Ss?
#nvedchat
R2: I allow my Ss to redo assignments and study more for quizzes. If you wanna work hard, I’m gonna give you the treat of earning the best grade they can. #NVedchat
Such a great practice! Did the same in my own classroom— stood out front to greet Ss & parents every morning. Great opportunity to quickly connect w/everyone first thing #NVedchat
YES! realistic pacing-if we are doing formatives then we can't always follow a publisher based pacing guide-know your kids & adjust on the journey #nvedchat
I have no qualms about making a fool out of myself, it happens and I emphasize with Ss that it's a great time to learn to be better rather than get frustrated and/or quit #nvedchat

Q3- Dogs are up for doing (or wearing) anything you are passionate about. Besides passion, what other ways will student fall in love with our teaching?
#nvedchat@Jenn_Garner
A2 give lots of opportunities. Hopefully they get used to trying new things and being comfortable outside their comfort zone. Model failure, own up to your own mistakes when things don’t work, keep trying & smile #nvedchat
I think your picture says a lot. Sometime we feel we are in charge but are being lead and other times we need to pull them along. all that matters is we end up in the same place. #NVedchat
A3 make it mean something to them-when learning is connected to students lives it cements the content-know your students and what matters to them #nvedchat
A3-Students must own the process of learning and have a voice in it. Can't always be an educator that leads. We are their guide and the students must lead, then they'll fall in love with learning the content. #NVedchat
Q3- Dogs are up for doing (or wearing) anything you are passionate about. Besides passion, what other ways will student fall in love with our teaching?
#nvedchat@Jenn_Garner
R2: One of my students from last year came back be an aide for me this year. I showed her the quiz remediation/retake plan I started using this year and she was at the same time a little jealous and super-happy for my current students. #nvedchat
Q3- Dogs are up for doing (or wearing) anything you are passionate about. Besides passion, what other ways will student fall in love with our teaching?
#nvedchat@Jenn_Garner
R3: student choice on projects, integrating fun technology, redoing assignments if they aren’t happy with their grades, #PBL, creation and invention of projects. #nvedchat
A3: working and learned along side them. Creating a safe, comfortable learning environment, helping w/clubs, dances, field trips, and attending performances/games. #NVedchat
So I pretty much say “great question, I don’t know” at least once a day Teachers don’t need to have all the answers, we want students asking questions that don’t have clear answers #NVedchat
R3: I've always taught students who dislike math and dislike school. I take my job seriously but I don't take myself seriously, and I think that helps us connect. #nvedchat
Q4- Dogs are super energetic one second and the next second they are fast asleep. What technique do you use to keep your students interested?

#nvedchat@Snehalstocks
It doesn't become a failure until one gives up. Continuously working with teachers and students to continue to try (and want to try) will yield positive results. #nvedchat
A4 keep em up and moving-remember that student attention span is about their (or in my case my age minus 30 ) less teacher talk more student talk #nvedchat
Q4- Dogs are super energetic one second and the next second they are fast asleep. What technique do you use to keep your students interested?
#nvedchat@Snehalstocks
A3: One way to make Ss fall in love w/our teaching is to tell a good story. Some of my most engaging lessons were just stories that led into a really great discussion #NVedchat
A4-I used tech breaks every 20 mins so students could chill, relax, and get ready for the next item. Worked great with blocks schedule. They got 3 breaks to reflect on their learning every time they were in class. Plus gave me the same time to recharge as well! #NVedchat
Q4- Dogs are super energetic one second and the next second they are fast asleep. What technique do you use to keep your students interested?
#nvedchat@Snehalstocks
Make it relevant for them. Kids tend to be able to sniff out authenticity vs. fluff - that's why sub plans often flop, we make busy work instead of relevant assignments. #nvedchat
Final Q5: Dogs love to protect and stand up for those who love them. What's 1 technique you use to show your Ss that you will stand up for them?
#nvedchat
.@BonanzaFire great question A4 keeping them intrested can be tough that’s why teachers need to keep lots of tools in their tool belts, recognize different learning styles try to accommodate & give options. #NVedchat
R5: there are a lot of days where I “get on my kids” because they aren’t working or doing their best. I make sure I tell them the reason why I get on them is because I know they can do better and I want them to do their best. #NVedchat
A5-Positive Parent Teacher Conferences...actually told the parent how great their student was in class and they needed to provide some challenging activities for them at home to keep the learning going...Let's just say everyone was a little surprised in a good way! #NVedchat
Final Q5: Dogs love to protect and stand up for those who love them. What's 1 technique you use to show your Ss that you will stand up for them?
#nvedchat
Since I work at a behavior school, I like to tell my Ss that they are there for a mistake and to learn from it, rather than making it who they are and that I will give them the benefit that they are good people that are going to learn from their past #nvedchat
Final Q5: Dogs love to protect and stand up for those who love them. What's 1 technique you use to show your Ss that you will stand up for them?
#nvedchat
R5: Especially when I was an urban teacher I played the "nobody believed in us card" - we're a team, let's do this together, let's shock the world! #nvedchat
You will never see 100% of adults focused during meetings for more than 15-20 minutes at a time so we shouldn't expect kids to focus that long either. Mix up activity with instruction to keep them engaged and intrigued. #nvedchat
I have been making a conscious effort to send positive emails out several times a week, especially for my really tough kids that probably don't get those sent often #nvedchat

Thanks for barking with me and helping others learn tonight! Go make some noise at your school and let others know how dogs make us better learners! #nvedchat
thanks for those who helped with the chat and shared pictures of your pups with #NVedchat Dogs are family and we would do anything for them. Remember that the next time you step in your classroom and prepare to educate your students #Nvedchat
Give them your best everyday. Hold them to high expectations and standards. Don't just show them the path to success but follow that path with them. Celebrate their successes and lament with them their struggles but always be there and show them you'll never give up. #nvedchat
