The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
It’s time for #INeLearn so let's get the intros rolling!! Share your name, teaching assignment, and anything else you want to share! @KindergartenVF and I will be your moderators this evening.
Tonight’s Part 2 of our Back to School series focuses on Building a Strong Learning Community. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say. Tag a friend that needs to be here. #INeLearn
R1 I think a learning community is a group of people all working to achieve the same goal. It obviously includes the T and Ss, but also any adult who supports learning along the way. #INeLearn
Steve in Valpo. Alg 2 & Alg Lab (support for incoming freshmen). Football prep, supervising my freshman studying for a geometry quiz, and #inelearn chatting tonight.
R2: A learning community can include students, teachers, administrators and any other steakholder. But they can be smaller tightknit groups of students in just one period or teachers in one department. #INeLearn
R1 A learning community includes all stakeholders who have a common goal of further their education and inspiring others, students definitely included! We can learn SO MUCH from them! #inelearn
Even though tonight is the classroom strand, we hope all coaches, admin, etc. will benefit from this discussion! We are all a part of a broader learning community! #INeLearn
R1: Definitely a desire/willingness to learn and support each other. Can be IRL or online, department based or across the curriculum. #bettertogether#INeLearn
A1. Learning Community= anyone who is willing to teach and learn from others. A community that thrives on not just learning from each other, but from their own mistakes as well. #INeLearn
R2 Establishing lines of communication between all stakeholders comes to my mind first. How will you engage? I think this has to include tech as well as F2F activity. #INeLearn
R2: routine must allow for creative, open thoughts and ideas ... but also have a format that allows inclusion of all members and reliability. #INeLearn
R2 I think communicating on a regular basis is vital to the health of the learning community. Routines, establishing norms for the group also. #INeLearn
R2 Routine and commitment are so important. Just like many of you, I'm doing school work at the same time as tweeting. It would be so easy to skip out on this. But maintaining a PLN is just as important other aspects of our jobs. #inelearn

I just started a google site for my ESS classes to post their end of unit projects. After he first ones are live we will share the url to parents and other stakeholders as well as other students. #INeLearn

R2 GoogleClassroom is an awesome way to share out responses and have an archive of discussion. Having a safe environment for people to feel their ideas are valued and matter. Giving praises to people who are willing to share and contribute to the bettering of the group #INeLearn
A2. Building trust between the learners+teacher+parents is the #1 priority for me. Without that, all other efforts to build the community are much harder. Teaching to question and reflect respectfully is also key. (If w/in staff, trust bt each other+principal.) #INeLearn
My Region tech role model @csstone1161 is awesome at this, finding ways for her team to learn FTF or from a distance, and modeling tools they can introduce to their classroom routine as well. #INeLearn
R3 This is a vital question for every group! Tools have to be within a comfort level for everyone. There may be a mix of tools used based on the learning community. #INeLearn
R3 I look for tools that engage audiences w/ authentic glimpses into student learning. Anytime we can share photos, videos, etc. it's a window into our learning community. #INeLearn
R3: Tech must help Ss learn material better, create better connections to material/each other/community, it makes Ts' job easier --> Those are my 3 reqs of a tech tool #INeLearn
R3 Listening is so important. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences, so tools I might find useful might not fit the teaching style, learning style, subject area or personality of another learner in my PLN. #inelearn
R3: Selecting a tool just for the purpose of using technology in the classroom is ineffective. It overwhelms the teacher and the student.
Plan the lesson, come up with essential questions and targets, then think of ways that students can use tech to think further. #INeLearn

R3: Tools that meet the learner where they are and provide a variety of ways for them to engage with the content and evidence their journey to mastery. Ease of navigation. #INeLearn
R4: I have a serious addiction to @screencastify, @flipgrid, and @socrative. Each of these tools allow for us to hear from every single student in the room with ease. #INeLearn
R4 I'm a huge fan of Clips App right now. I watched my own children (ages 3-9) make their own action movie tonight. So impressed with the app's flexibility and ease of use. Great for littles and bigs! #IneLearn
R4: Ooooh, the Alg 1 team at @ValpoHS411 is doing a super-cool @classroomchef-inspired menu for the freshmen. They select from a menu of dessert (tool) options to dig deep into some DOK-3 level questions, ranging from GSuite to @Flipgrid & @Screencastify for video. #INeLearn
R4 I'm sure it's no surprise that my teachers and learners have #flipgridfever! But they're also loving @padlet and the discussion board in @CanvasLMS. #inelearn
R4: @Seesaw@Flipgrid@GoogleForEdu are the first tools to come to mind. So many good ones out there. Excited to see what everyone else shares! 🙌🏼 #INeLearn
R5 Tech can for sure have a negative impact on a learning community. When it becomes more about the tool than the connection, then there is an issue. #INeLearn
R4 I still enjoy the standard discussion board through our LMS. It's a great place to learn #digcit traits and think about audience when speaking. #INeLearn
R5 When we use tech for the sake of tech and disregard good pedagogy, this can happen. Also when Ps aren't up to speed w/ their Ss tech and have difficulty helping them at home. It breeds negativity and breaks down trust. #INeLearn
R5: last year I tried to have students make a thinglink on a virtual learning day and they were overwhelmed and many shut down instead of trying something new. I learned never to introduce something new unless I was there in person to answer questions. #INeLearn
R5: Definitely. If the teacher complains about the method by saying something like, ¨theyŕe making me do this..." OR if the teacher is constantly changing whatś being used in the class. #INeLEarn
One year we were getting a state visit during Finals Review. I swer every teacher put together a Jeopardy review. By lunchtime every kid had sprained eyeballs. They know when it's forced. #INeLearn
R5 The instagram effect. We're not all as amazing as we sometimes look on Twitter. 🤣 After a rough day, it can be disheartening to see all the great things people are doing and the huge followings they have here. We have to remember that all educators have bad days.
#inelearn
R5 I think we have to think about learning styles and Ss preferences, but also at what point do we nudge Ss out of their comfort zone to try something new? Especially if it will benefit them in the workforce. Thinking out loud... #INeLearn
R5: Yes. If we use tech with totality to create and respond and never give the community a chance to get face-to-face with one another for human interaction, we are doing the tech and the Ss a disservice. Using tech shouldn’t replace in-person feedback and reflection. #INeLearn
Yes!!! We are all doing AMAZING things with our Ss. Never forget and don't fall into the comparison trap. I love that Amy shared this. I'm so guilty! #INeLearn

We don't know what we don't know.... a push out of our comfort zone and in a positive direction with support.. is one of the jobs of educators #INeLearn
R6 I love sharing w/ Ss how amazingly privileged they are to have top-notch, 1:1 devices. I think when they've always had it, they take it for granted. I share stories w/ them from other educators and Ss who only dream of having what they have. #INeLearn
A6: Sometimes people need more time to adapt to the change than others. It can be overwhelming when we make a dynamic change.
I also keep in mind that not every teacher learns the sameway and keep a positive mindset around them. #INeLearn
R5... continued... also, if you walk into a room and students are working independently on a collaboration project in total silence... get those learners talking! 🙅🏼♀️🤫 #INeLearn
R6 Remaining positive ourselves and sharing the amazing things our Ss do daily! Keeping the mindset that even if others are negative, it's important that we keep on keeping on! #INeLearn
R6 I am very careful about words around Ss and Ps. I never say, "I hate technology," WHEN something doesn't work. Instead, we problem-solve together or I problem-solve aloud to model the thinking. #INeLearn
R6: Model and shine a light on the positives. Be sure you are sharing all of the good happening in learning with technology. The successes...the growth...the community. Don't let the naysayers stop you from doing what is right for today's learners. #INeLearn
#inelearn Tech can certainly have a negative effect on a community if Admin (or Ts) believe that "having tech" means having a better school. Tech can never be the focus for its own sake, rather only in how it serves the learning of Ss.
R6: We're in year 2 of a 1:1 initiative. I think as our students see the opportunities their teachers are creating for them to collaborate & create & knock down walls, the more open they will be to the activities. And that rubs off on teachers, too. #INeLearn
R6: Build relationships first. Then bring in the tech. Hesitant/frustrated educators shouldn’t be treated differently than that type of S. Build trust, learn their story, ask questions, and the willingness will come. They have to want to learn, just like kiddos.😉 #INeLearn
HS Business teacher from Northview HS in Brazil IN. I run our school SM and have started a web design program where our students are the web admins for every school in the corporation and can get dual credit from Ivy Tech #INeLearn
R7: My community knows no physical bounds! I LOVE that I have colleagues and friends all over the state, country...beyond. Technology lets us be part of something global but that feels like our neighborhood coffee group. Tech levels the playing field & connects us all. #INeLearn
R7 My approach hasn't changed. It's still all about creating magic in your classroom... Tech or no tech! Tech just makes a great connection for the Ss of today! #INeLearn
R7: We are in our first year being 1:1 and we have had so much more opportunity to get together and talk as a faculty (mostly about the chromebooks) where we get to swap ideas and learn new tools to use in our classroom. #INeLearn
R7 I love how tech has allowed me to see the whole student. It's opened new doors to relationship building w/ Ss and their Ps. I feel like I have a more authentic picture of who they are as learners than in the earlier days of worksheets. #INeLearn
This! My teacher friend unit now extends all over the country. They inspire me and renew my spirt. This was not possible (to this degree) before technology. #IneLearn

This is one of my favorite parts, There is a core group of Ts (beyond the official Tech Coaches) that loves to share new cool tips & tricks. Great for collegiality & team-building in a big school, too. #INeLearn
R8 I need to make myself more available for participating and leading learning communities. I find myself so busy with life that I neglect that aspect. The beauty of tech and social media is it's very possible to participate even though busy! #INeLearn
R8 Since I moved to middle school, I miss that deeper connection to my Ss families that I had at the elem level. We recently started a wing newsletter which is a good start, but I'm desiring more... #INeLearn
R8: I want to expand my learning community to embrace policy makers and get them involved in our conversations around teaching and learning in today's classrooms. They need a better understanding to make good legislative decisions. I will invite them to the chat! #INeLearn
R7: Looking for a hybrid model - I've learned much & expanded my PLN at SOEL events, which is awesome. I would love for all of us at #sselearn & #evillagenwi to be able to formally share what we learned with our colleagues back at our buildings. Keep the learning going. #INeLearn
WU Someone mentioned @Socrative which I used to use but went away from. I think I will revisit that in the next two weeks. I love mixing up my review tools. #INeLearn
R8: I just want to keep my eyes & ears open and keep learning. My department is a powerhouse. Sometimes I just need to figure out how to put a nozzle on the firehose. #INeLearn
R8 There will always be room for improvement and strengthening, because tech is ALWAYS changing and AH-MAZING educators and Ss keep raising the bar and using it in new and innovative ways!🙌🏼 #INeLearn
Every week during this chat I am humbled by the amazing people that make up our #INeLearn community. Thank you for doing what you do each day for students. Special thanks to @T_Copple & @KindergartenVF for leading tonight.
Big thanks to this AMAZING learning community for rocking another chat. I always have trouble sleeping after moderating because of the great thoughts and ideas you share. #INeLearn is the best!
