#teachpos -A1-It is easy to be distracted with other things while working - the next class, the last class, that parent call you have to make, things going on at home. It is hard, but when you are in the classroom, your focus should only be on educating the humans in front of you

Q2: MIndfulness is of single mind. It is not distracted. How can the building of a non-distracted environment create a positive working world for students? #TeachPos
  • bbray27 Sep 16 @ 7:42 PM EDT
A1: Take care of you. I keep a gratitude jar and write a note each day. It's important to be grateful and then model that for your students. The kids know right away if you are genuinely excited to be there and also doing the best you can. Those relationships matter! #TeachPos
  • gdorn1 Sep 16 @ 7:42 PM EDT
A1. Being mindful and present is being prepared for the Ss and ready to go! Welcomig them with a smile, listening to their stories, preparing them for learning! #teachpos

#teachpos - A2 - Everyone works differently. I would strive for a learning environment that reduces anxiety and allows for Ss to work in the way in which they choose. Some may want a quiet non-distracted environment. Others may want a noisy collaborative environment.

By modeling for students how to stay on task you are ingraining in them a strong work ethic. Lead by example. If you want you class to be mindful you must show them mindfulness. Allow for the natural give and take of the lesson, but maintain engagement and focus. #TeachPos

A1: I wasn’t always good at being Mindful because my passion for not-a-wasted-moment used to make me squirm at morning interruptions, off-the-wall questions & off-topic comments. Over the years, I realized I’m teaching kids, not content. So I changed my behaviors. #teachpos

  • bbray27 Sep 16 @ 7:44 PM EDT
A2: As a coach for teachers, I notice right away how much they do and how hard they work to create materials for the wall. When students are involved in redesigning the environment, we start with a blank canvas, no distractions. They love that! Then add their work #TeachPos

I find that the biggest detractor from mindfulness in my classroom is when I over-plan the period. I need to allow time to ask a Q....and just let it sit...without rushing to answer it quickly so we can move on to the next thing. #teachpos
  • LenaTroxtell Sep 16 @ 7:45 PM EDT
A2- If they see that you believe what is going on in the classroom is important, because you aren't distracted, they will feel the same. #TeachPos

When that S comes in a few seconds or minutes late, just ask "are you ok?" and let them settle in peacefully. They're already stressed from being late AND from who-knows-what else. Don't let your reaction to their tardy become yet one more obstacle to their focus! #teachpos
