#akedchat I would define collective efficacy as a team effort: being able to draw on each other’s strengths towards a common goal

I am Laura, 5th Grade Teacher, Wrangell, Alaska. I am celebrating that my son who struggles a bit in school loved Kindergarten and played in his first violin concert! #Akedchat
  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:15 PM EDT
So impactful when a learner finds his/her own successes, and gets through the struggle! Woohoo! #akedchat

A2: I imagine that as teachers we are stronger together than we are alone. It's tempting sometimes to shut the door and focus on my own little world, but that's not necessarily what's best for kids... #akedchat
  • NMeget May 21 @ 11:18 PM EDT
A2) It’s #1 on Hattie’s list of factors that influence student achievement #akedchat
  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:20 PM EDT
YES!!!! #1!!!! That is HUGE! #akedchat
    In reply to @NMeget
  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:21 PM EDT
So thankful you did and I feel like that is one of the wins from these chats-quick and easy way to lift our practice and share. We are all learners! #akedchat

  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:22 PM EDT
If Hattie is saying it's #1, consider this question: #akedchat
  • AlaskaTeacher May 21 @ 11:25 PM EDT
A3: I'm interested to hear others' answers to this. I feel a little burned out trying to contribute to our school-wide efforts. #akedchat
  • NMeget May 21 @ 11:25 PM EDT

@hilgerl #Akedchat A3: This school year, I enjoyed reading all the tweets from across Alaska and trying to conect those educators to people & tools that can help them at their local level.
  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:27 PM EDT
My celebration in this area is being intentional about connecting evidence from our work as a collective to impact on learners. The more we can discuss our evidence, I feel like the more we believe in one another as a team! #akedchat
  • spiralEDU May 21 @ 11:28 PM EDT
Oh Angie, I think you have a great collective impact on highlighting teaching in Alaska... especially bush Alaska! It’s such an important perspective and I hope it inspires others to go teach in a rural district #akedchat #ruraledchat

A3) As a Principal it’s important that decisions made follow our school’s vision and are made by figuring out they “why” b4 the “what”. I’ve got to be better at learning together and then moving forward #akedchat
  • hilgerl May 21 @ 11:30 PM EDT
This is powerful. We are too into the what, what, what at times. Why is one of my favorite questions because it helps us stay grounded and focused on the north star so to speak-our students. #akedchat

My area of improvement is to work more with my colleagues on reflecting about our evidences, even if it is from separate projects or sessions, so that it becomes more habitual. #akedchat
  • spiralEDU May 21 @ 11:37 PM EDT
That’s awesome! I know some schools invite local yoga or Zumba instructors into the classrooms too! Involving the community is such a great idea! #akedchat

Because collective efficacy is such a huge leverage action, I really want to be thinking about this at the systems level and how we might offer more time for both teachers and leaders to build it. I hope you gained at least one thing from tonight's chat! #akedchat
  • spiralEDU May 21 @ 11:52 PM EDT
#akedchat I think collective efficacy needs to be a term that is more familiar to people... I love that it emcompasses a team-based towards a common goal. Would love to see more!
