Ok - here we GO!!!!🎉🎨 Q1: How are you and your students participating in Youth Art Month (YAM) this year? Please share some of your lessons and events.

A2- At my previous school district, I taught all grades, k-12, and my elementary students made one large k-5 Group Mural. Wish I still had the picture #K12ArtChat
A2: I think I always have we've done a celebration in the district forever - give kids and community a chance to see the impact of art! #K12ArtChat#artsed
A2 yes, for over 10 years. At HS, I would pick Scholastic "rejects" then they would go to state and Ss would be elated! We have a month long show and a reception for families. #k12artchat
A.1. Social media rather new to our district
I send photos and text over weekly
Waiting to check for my efforts this week as I did not see it this afternoon
#K12ArtChat
A2: We have participated for a couple years now doing small projects around school. This is the 2nd yr of sketchbooks and crayons for the shelter bc they loved them last year! #k12artchat
A2: I have participated in YAM as a student back in elementary school! I wrote a paper for a show describing how I would make art supplies more accessible to everyone if I were the U.S. president. It was so cute! #K12ArtChat
A1 I’m @mercer_nj_yam co-chair, submitted student work for @ArtEducatorsNJ state yam, doing the #31daysofyam photo challenge, gave content to school newspaper on the exhibits and will hang our part of the @WeAreHTSD district art show tomorrow! #K12ArtChat
A3- I currently use my Twitter @MattCockrellArt to promote my students work! For those new to education or new to 'using technology to connect', I Highly Recommend using @Twitter to promote your students artwork & build your brand #K12ArtChat
We have a tag that all the art Ts in our district use on twitter and instagram all year..... #pisdcreatesart that way we can all look for it! #K12ArtChat
A2 this is my 6th or 7th year as co-chair of yam for our county @mercer_nj_yam - my past co-chair @TDiazMHK and I won 2 state level awards from @ArtEducatorsNJ for our work to build the shows participation #K12ArtChat
Alicia from Lombard, IL. We have celebrated 10 years of #YouthArtMonth with district wide exhibits at village center or local library. #K12artchat#GWMS#WeAre44
A3 I have been incorporating the @ArtsEdNJ tools into my advocacy, I use @Artsonia to share work and info about lessons, I tweet (too much? Lol) and I pretty much never stop talking about #arteducation#K12ArtChat
I have been actively participating in YAM for 24 years! Advocacy is a major part of an #artsed position! I make district and school books that are on table books for visitors in the main office! #a2#k12artchat

A4... tricky question. It depends on the audience I’m talking to. I believe I have the support my student’s families and most administrators. #K12ArtChat
A3 building gallery with minimum of 1 peice per Ss, Yam show, district K-12 art show, promote projects in weekly PTA blast & Facebook, offer class collaborations for PTA raffles, extra show, #k12artchat
A5 the @mercer_nj_yam exhibit is housed at @ArtworksTrenton a fantastic arts nonprofit in the area! Our district show has been at the local library and at @gfsnj in the past but is now at a local garden center #K12ArtChat
#artsed Advocacy tools- social media, yam books, office art displays, presenting at city council or school board meetings (yam gifts to council members), district art fb page, etc #a3#K12ArtChat
It was started in 1961 by the @councilforarteducation and if used right could be the Nation’s #1 Advocacy tool! It’s sharing your kids work LOUDLY in March!
#a4 Advocacy helps build pride for your students, staff and yourself on all the creative energy happening in the art room daily. You know its a good day when ART is the classroom to visit when guests come by! #K12ArtChat
A4- Advocating and 'building your classroom brand' is a cool thing, especially when you post the awesome art projects you do on #K12ArtChat on @Twitter and other Art Teachers, worldwide, compliment you & email you with questions about 'how'd you do that' #humbled#k12artchat
When I sit in drive to pick up an occasional lunch treat, I imagine displaying our kaleidoscopes in the square windows of bank along drive. I need to go in with finished work and ASK! #k12artchat#GWMS#WeAre44
Most interesting place I ever showed student work was from the lights down main street in my town! Students made giant butterfly sculptures inspired by the "cows on parade" that were flying from the lights during a Spring Garden Festival in town. #a5#k12artchat
A4: I have had school board members tell me that they can see the work and care that goes into our art program that it's about teaching kids problem solving in creative ways! #K12ArtChat

A7 #YouthArtMonth is a great advocacy tool for #arteducation but we can’t stop the work or the conversation when March is over. Speaking up for our programs needs to be part of all 🎨teachers job description-all year long. #K12ArtChat#artmatters
Don't worry if you miss something everything tweeted with the tag #K12ArtChat during the 8:30 to 9:30 window is captured and transcribed by @participate
A4: Being an advocate can ONLY make your program better! It also increases Ss pride giving them a reason to create better art. It also increases school pride and supports the importance of art in schools. #k12artchat
A4: This yr, we have done lots of amazing & had more parents tell me abt how much their Ss come home talking abt what they did in art. 4th - Furniture, 1st - Harlem Ren. Collage, 4th Self Portrait raps #K12ArtChat
A4: I think so. Teachers stop me in the halls to tell me they like what we are doing outside of the classroom. Yell from the roof about all the things your kids do- the deserve a cheerleader #K12ArtChat
A5- This is the 7th straight year that I've created an Art Calendar, as a fundraiser with my Art 1 students. Art 1 students learn/ practice 1 & 2 point perspective, for a month, then we create the calendar. Big profits. Community Support is huge! Email me to know more #k12artchat
#k12artchat A5 It is key to take art work outside of your building and into the community. I once took over an abandoned train station for a district art show. It had a line outside to get in. PS The city then saved the building - win, win!
Q4: I think so. My high school would publish magazines filled with student art from our program and from other nearby schools. Everyone was always very excited when they were released and couldn't stop talking about it! #k12artchat
A6- A Big state support advocacy for the arts is the Governors School for the Arts. Students can tryout/ submit portfolios in these categories- choir, fine art, archi., instr. music, & sev. more. Those students who get into this competitive event have scholarship opp. #k12artchat
A5: They're not exactly my students, but @Mr_white_art and I helped our #arteducation professor finish up an AP highschool mosaic-- it went from the hall floor in the art buildings, to the public library wall-- the public and students loved it! #k12artchat
A5 this was my 1st year submitting to Visions of Peace show. They take artwork from all over & will mail it back to you. I loved the conversations with Ss about the topic of UN Rights of the Child. Kids are amazingly bright, thoughtful and show so much empathy. #k12artchat
Loved the Johnathan Green Workshop at the GAEA conference! My students will be displaying their artwork at ArtsNight 2018 Hollydale ES #cobbartrocks#K12ArtChat@dewestudio
I advocate for the #arts by sharing their positive effects hands-on whenever I can- being #creative & expressing yourself is a great outlet & doing it collaboratively allows for terrific connections- can't wait to share more at my #NAEA18 workshop! #K12ArtChat
A7- I think Youth Art Month (YAM) has its benefits. I think with pre-planning, an Art Teacher could make this into an event that students would never forget #k12artchat
A.4. #K12ArtChat
I've been told by peers.
I don't know how you get the students to do that.
Good, _______, needed that recognition.
I get people to donate things because they know we will use whatever to make art
...now to only get a big increase in the art budget for kids
Q6: Does your state participate on the National Level? Do you participate in the flag design project and submit to your state’s scrapbook for national review? #k12artchat
A5: Not so much where I put up artwork, but what I put up! 1st gr - did Haring motion tracings, but my 2nd & 3rd went up in our Admin building animations using @DoInkTweets animation app #K12ArtChat
A4 tonight was an example of how important it is to promote our art programs - Merry Mullins did a great job of putting together a community art show #k12artchat
Our 5th annual #artday Art Read Think Day this year! collaboration w/@skyline_sparks we invite community members to share stories, about art & reading aloud to students. Last years event here: Art Read Think Day 2016 - Capitol of Creativity https://t.co/YzsDEoHbwH#k12artchat

A6 I have been proud to have multiple entries printed on the IAEA flag design over the years. Seeing one at last NAEA conference was quite exciting! #k12artchat
