A1: Twitter has opened doors to me. I've been on Twitter since 2007. I need to share @datruss A free Twitter Guide. #TwitterEDU It's a great guide if you are starting out or just want to go deeper. #rethink_learning
I feel the same way! Twitter has literally re-ignited the passion in so many people AND for those of us who felt different, it's good to find a tribe! #rethink_learning
A1b - In today’s world it’s not just about being connected, it’s also about providing the most up to date methods for instruction. Social media is a great tool for that. #rethink_learning
A1 I have been using twitter for a few years but this year I really have been purposeful about making connections, getting involved and sharing my voice about being a #champforkids#rethink_learning

#rethink_learning
A1~ #rethink_learning ...love twitter for resources, online PD, reading blog posts, staying current in our field, global connections & positivity spreading 👍 our classroom page helps our families stay engaged & gives them a glimpse in our learning & relationship building ❤️
This is so important! We often talk about social media & lack of empathy there, but we can so easily interrupt our own perspective with that of others now! #rethink_learning
A1: also important to connect and talk to ppl and educators from around the world; don't limit it to your region or country - so much to learn and take in! #rethink_learning
A1: so many educators are sharing creative and innovative ideas on social media. I like that I can lurk silently or participate in conversations. #rethink_learning
A1 Twitter, and the awesome people here, literally saved me both professionally and personally - we need to share our passions. #rethink_learninghttps://t.co/yCbrZO76fH
I am using this summer to answer this question. We use a variety of educational apps, but I want to start translating that onto social media. Would love some ideas! #rethink_learning
A2: in the classroom it is too difficutl, to many blocks on the internet. However, we have a school FB page, Instagram, and Twitter page. We are working to really connect with the community. #rethink_learning
and with Ss too...such a huge connection b/w #socialmedia and #globaled we need to integrate and help Ss develop habits of mind...I talk about this in my book. #rethink_learning

I teach English to newcomers to Canada in Edmonton, AB. Social media and especially Twitter has given me a way to connect without having to think about distance, for example @jennifermchow & @LINCInstructor in BC & @StanzaSL in ON. #rethink_learning
My students use social media to show off their class projects, communicate #FBLA events, and market the #yearbook This year I am integrating a complete Social Media markting strategy planning session with both FBLA and yearbook as part of the curriculum. #rethink_learning
A1 I use @Twitter to learn and to foster the formation of new knowledge with other educators and tweeps on my #PLN. Additionally, I use @Pinterest to gather and curate resources about topics of personal and professional interest to myself, friends, and family. #rethink_learning
A2: I just read an article about a 2nd grade teacher who created a class twitter and how it’s helping kids with their literacy/twitteracy! #rethink_learning
A1: Twitter has been AMAZING! I’ve expanded my PLN, connected with amazing educators, participated in various chats, even been asked to moderate a few. #rethink_learning
A2 we reach out to authors - it’s been amazing. Skype visits and answers to questions about historical events. Also connecting to schools around the world. #rethink_learning
A1 I love connecting with educators on Twitter. That's my go-to, but I also belong to several Facebook groups for my grade/content & the technology I am working too use. #rethink_learning
A2: using it to learn, ask questions, collaborate, communicate, connect with professionals from the field, Ss lead twitter chats, take over the school twitter account to post and lead discussions #rethink_learning
A2 - I use mostly Instagram in class. I post weekly something positive for kids to reflect upon. Also, twitter, but most high school kids don’t use that as much. I like having a blending learning class based off of what we have posted. #rethink_learning
A2: we use it in the classroom to share learning with our parents/world, to be models for others on how to properly use SM/good digital citizenship, and to connect with other to make the learning more real #rethink_learning
A2: I HAVE to share this via @aliciajpascual who has created an Instagram account to connect her classes to a First Nations School. https://t.co/4PITxI54Yz The project & the student reflections are incredible! #rethink_learning
A2: Ss use instagram to share their learning, go on scavenger hunts, ask Qs and connect with classrooms around the world. #rethink_learning#socialmedia
A2: there is a huge connection b/w #socialmedia and #globaled - need to integrate into the classroom so Ss learn side by side w/ Ss from around the world to challenge perspectives, stereotypes, and biases. #rethink_learning
A2: We're currently exploring Instagram as a way to connect other students and teachers to great books: https://t.co/15zmjhS5FJ Next, I want to start helping students use social media to access more open-walled learning opportunities. #rethink_learning
A2~ we use our classroom twitter to share our day of learning, keep our families informed, globally connect & celebrate our diversity 🌎 #rethink_learning
A2: I haven’t used it in my class. I’m a special and only get them once a week. I do teach about digital citizenship and include it in that unit. #rethink_learning
A2: As a reading specialist, I don’t have my own classroom but my school uses @Seesaw with our Pre-K through 1st graders, google classroom for 2nd-5th, @ClassDojo across all GLs, our ITS created a student twitter account that will be implemented next year #rethink_learning
Q2. I’ve been able to learn a great deal through Twitter and the connections have definitely accelerated up growth. Twitter helps with connections, but I enjoy building on the connection through Voxer. #rethink_learning
A2: My class used SM to make connections with Ss, Ts, & authors in ALL 50 states & 3 countries this year for #GlobalCollaboration projects! We documented our journey on Twitter & our class FB page! #rethink_learning
A2: results from my research show that Ss were teaching each other on Twitter and that classroom climate improved - Ss who usually don't work together in FTF classroom were now working together - classroom community enhanced! #rethink_learning
A2: I love to prompt kids to interact with me. I post riddles, questions, invite them to post #booksnaps Love @MathInTheNews for this among others. I want them to see social media beyond the social! #rethink_learning
A2 I don't have my Ss using social media in the classroom, but I run a public band Facebook page where I share what awesome things my Ss are doing. Ps and Ss connect often there. #rethink_learning
A2: #socialmedia and #globaled are connected and must be integrated into the classroom - Ss need to develop habits of mind like open mindedness and empathy. #rethink_learning
A2: start off by doing some fun activities - post some icebreakers and have them follow their fav celebs and fix their grammar and spelling! #rethink_learning
A1: SM is the most frequent & most consistent PD I have & has expanded my PLN far beyond my school & board. T blogs & podcasts introduce me to innovative teach’g practices; FB groups allow me to rd PD books & chat w/ other Ts #rethink_learning
A2: I have always said, "if we don't integrate #socialmedia in education, how can we expect Ss to develop #digcit skills? Never understood districts who ban them. #rethink_learning
A2: My class used SM to make connections with Ss, Ts, & authors in ALL 50 states & 3 countries this year for #GlobalCollaboration projects! We documented our journey on Twitter & our class FB page! #rethink_learning
Really want to try #BookSnaps! Just started experimenting with all of SnapChat's photo editing features. Think I'm going overboard with stickers....
#rethink_learning
A2: We're currently exploring Instagram as a way to connect other students and teachers to great books: https://t.co/15zmjhS5FJ Next, I want to start helping students use social media to access more open-walled learning opportunities. #rethink_learning
My Twitter PLN is definitely my go-too as well. I've just joined my 1st FB group to chat about #180Days & am super excited to try FB for learning. #rethink_learning
A3; connect with Ss from around the world to learn together, discuss issues and lead change. Have Ss lead chats around global issues, post pics and reflection questions. #rethink_learning
A2b: we did some modeling of tweets with our student tech team @Pinch_Bulldogs. Going to be using Twitter much more with them next year. #rethink_learning
The closest thing we use for digital communication is @seesaw. We encourage Ss to start conversations with other Ss on their work and create a dialogue. We stress the importance of positive citizenship and monitor the interactions as a class. #rethink_learning
A2 My Ss (Teachers) use @Twitter to build professional relationships, ask probing questions, communicate with SMEs & other like-minded individuals who use #socialmedia for good. Above all to develop themselves and to grow as professionals in their practice. #rethink_learning
A3: @Flipgrid this year with my 3rd graders. I am in my infancy stages with learning all I can do with it, I will expand and I know I can get more global through that medium & not have to worry about all the blocks that happen through typical SM & our district. #rethink_learning
A3: connect to the curriculum - use #socialjustice big ideas and have Ss generate Qs, find answers, and ask even more Qs...have a chat or post images and do a "See Think Wonder" protocol....so many possibilities! #rethink_learning
A3: I let them take the lead and act as a guide - we connect with people and use their thoughts and ideas as we collaborate. It’s great because they see the benefits and learn how to use the tools to help others and themselves #rethink_learning
Haha! Is there such a thing? I know @TaraMartinEDU suggests lots of non-social media alternatives (which are awesome), but I think it's important kids use what they call "real tools" #rethink_learning
In reply to
@JoshEcker, @MathInTheNews, @TaraMartinEDU
A3: This is something I'm still just getting started with. So far, I have had students build awareness of issues that matter to them by creating websites, youtube videos, etc. Excited to hear other's thoughts! #rethink_learning
I went to a session about @Seesaw and have the app on my phone. That is as far as I got. I need to learn more and get this going with my littles. #rethink_learning
In reply to
@teacherstenger, @bbray27, @Seesaw, @Seesaw
A3 - Many educators fight the battle of SM. I find that stressful and not embracing technology. We focus on empowering kids in the areas they are experts in. Also, learning from them is about a total team effort. Personally, it’s refreshing to see what they do. #rethink_learning
Gotta go now, but thank you for this super twitter chat! Also an excellent topic tonight! Remind me again to join next time please! @Shapiro_WTHS#rethink_learning
A3: I know so many teachers are using @Flipgrid and love that for the UN 17 #SDGs the World's largest lesson invites Ss from all over the world to share how they would solve the world's problems. #rethink_learning
A3: I always have Ss generate norms for #socialmedia use - parents are also informed and educated so we are all on the same page. I even had a "chew and chat" for parents during lunch. #rethink_learning
A3: I think part of the issue is that Ss don't know how to use #socialmedia for learning - we have to teach them - they are not digital natives when it comes to this aspect. #rethink_learning
A3: Modeling and getting parent permission for students to share on Twitter. @Seesaw and @Schoology have been a great place for Ss to learn to post comments. #rethink_learning
A3: it’s important for our students to realize the impact that their words have. With the access they have to social media, they have the power to stand up for those who are voiceless, promote & encourage change, connect & learn with people all over the world #rethink_learning
a3 I encourage curiosity over curation&creation. The short twitch tools (twitter/snapchat) can be used 4deep connection & convo when Ss&Ts spend time in chats&get 2know the members of their #PLN. Asking more questions&promoting others ideas is a great start 2 #rethink_learning
Q2: My Ss maintain blogs & vlogs, share ideas via @Flipgrid & @Padlet, and collaborate via @Voicethread. Ss are also using SM such as Instagram and Twitter as a means to exhibit their understanding of their learning in interdisciplinary projects we're doing. #rethink_learning
In reply to
@bbray27, @Flipgrid, @padlet, @voicethread
A3: We are using a variety of platforms to connect with two First Nations classes to get to know them better and to dispel stereotypes including @Flipgrid & AnswerGarden #rethink_learning
A3 I encourage them to come out of their shell and to not be afraid to ask questions. Conversely, for them to share what they know and cross-check with other Ts to learn what is working (or not) for them in classrooms across the world. Together we #learnbetter#rethink_learning
A3: #socialmedia also gives every child a voice - those Ss not comfortable participating in class will participate online - great for ELLs too! Builds connections, relationships, language and so much more! #rethink_learning
A3 We use different tools that promote collaboration and communication, @edmodo@voxer@RemindHQ , Ss learn skills through these tools, and also become active with their own Twitter accounts, #rethink_learning
A3 I share our Band FB and my Twitter handle outside my door. Modeling digital citizenship with what & how I post. We are also regular @Seesaw users, but that is contained in the realm of T/S/P. #rethink_learning
A3 We have also been doing #pbl in Spanish and connected w/other classrooms, communicated through @edmodo and built relationships, then we used @Flipgrid and @padlet and most recently @Buncee and Skype #rethink_learning

Social media is a part of our world. Understanding its content, codes, & conventions, are a part of Literacy today! A Stanford study says 80% of middle schoolers don’t know the difference between ads & actual content. We can’t afford NOT to teach media via sm #rethink_learning

Last year we used Google Hangouts to connect w/ another middle school band in our district. I'd like to do more & extend the learning. With other bands or composers or people in the music industry. Show Ss possibilities that exist out there beyond our city. #rethink_learning
If you get a chance we have two awesome guest moderators for #TeachPos this Sunday at 7:30 EST 6:30 CST join @_on11 and @megan_hacholski when they talk about regrets and positive change. #rethink_learning
If you teach another language, you can have Ss create groups and you are part of the group - you can ask Qs based on a story or just general ice breaker Qs and have Ss respond in the target language. Helps to build fluency and pronunciation. #rethink_learning
Thank you @JCasaTodd for guest hosting with me and @raspberryberet3. You were amazing!! Love all the resources you shared with everyone. Have a great night!! #rethink_learning

Agreed! As an ELA T I think it's imperative that we integrate it into our courses so all Ss are studying digital literacy, digital citizenship, & digital leadership. I'm hoping to have a book club for #SocialLEADia to get more Ts on board. #rethink_learning
A1: Twitter is where I get the next great read for my PD or see provocative that force me to focus on my own practices. So many experts swimming in my stream #rethink_learning
Just curious @annmaria_tierno are students required to use any particular program for the e-portfolio or can they choose what works best for them? #rethink_learning
Always love when you can jump in @tamaraletter so go ahead and reply. Will be archiving later so your tweets will be included if you use #rethink_learning
Awww, you are too kind, Jennifer! We are excited to roll out another round of PD4me, showing Ts how to use social media for #personalizedPD and @sctaylorITRT is leading an online book study on YOUR book! So much fun ahead! #SocialLEADia#rethink_learning
