I used to have a 1971 Honda Ct90 that needed a new cylinder. Watched a video online of some random dude doing it. I gollowed the video, failed. Found an old guy to do it with me and succeeded. Human element is paramount to success, videos only do so much #moedchat
Q4: Ss have never known a world w/o the internet. They need to be taught the rules of engagement by a dedicated T and then set free to create/explore, but I don’t think the dedicated T should be replaced by soemthing virtual. 😁 #selfinterest#MOEdChat
Its that collaboration, the human element. Online can't substitute that without interaction (i.e. chats, conferences, etc.). I think we are in agreement! #moedchat
I'm doing a longitudinal study. Right now I'm getting numbers that say (for the average student) the higher the short-term scores, the lower the retention rate. Not sure what to think of that, though. #moedchat
A5: I’ve been in a few districts, but I have to say my current district is amazing at providing feedback. Sometimes it’s hard to hear, but the relational trust and involvement from our central office truly builds and empowers teachers’ levels of self-efficacy. #moedchat
Online learning is not for every student but for some the student/teacher relationship is stronger online due to the amount of interaction with the instructor. This was eye opening for me in a recent discussion with a full time online teacher. #moedchat

I agree completely! I’ve taken online courses where I was able to collaborate with educators that I otherwise would not have. I just hope we maintain some balance as we prepare Ss for the future. #moedchat
A5: our district held a Teacher Summit where our hundred of Ts across the district had dedicated time to teach, learn and collaborate together. It was the best district PD day I have ever experienced! #moedchat
Those interactions are key in a seated setting or an online setting. Quality online courses can still provide that interaction...but it is different for sure. Sometimes I think the perception is that online learning is more like a correspondence course. #moedchat
A5: We are giving our teachers TIME where they can explore passion projects, visit other districts, create innovative lessons, try out new tech tools, etc. #moedchat
@Abby_Erwin and I work with teachers in our teacher academy to personalize learning to content and grade level. We have found that personalized learning and one on one trainings result in higher teacher implementation &they are much more confident #moedchat
A5 The district I work for encourages and pushes teachers and all staff really to get out of the box, there is a super awesome Leadership program (just one of many ways) run by @METCedplus to encourage anyone in the district to be the best they can be #moedchat
I'm sort of doing some of that in math, but my concern about SBG is retention issues. Ss master things...then totally forget a few months later. #moedchat
#ISTE standards for students will provide for some truly meaningful work to be done across subject areas over the next few years. Many of these standards connect deeply with elements of the C3 Framework for SS teachers. #moedchat
I see online as a potential component of a students learning. Students will figure out the best balance for them with guidance from the adults around them. #moedchat
