Tonight we are honored to have @brendatracy24 hosting us. Coaches can #SetTheExpectation of zero tolerance for violence against women with our teams. This is one of the most important conversations we can have tonight and I'm glad Brenda agreed to lead us #TXHSFBCHAT
Thank you @brendatracy24 for hosting us tonight. As a teacher and coach, I need to learn how to better address the issue of violence against women with my players and students. #TXHSFBCHAT
The first step is opening up the dialogue and letting your athletes know you care about the subject and they can talk to you. Lots of ppl are nervous talking about sexual assault and relationship violence. You can model that it's ok to talk about it. #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q1: How do you talk to your team and teach them to build healthy, respectful relationships and understand consent with women? #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: A1: You have to make a point to talk about it. Kids are influenced from a variety of sources. We must educate them right from wrong #txhsfbchat
Q2: What does it mean to be a good man, husband, boyfriend, etc when it comes to their relationship with women? How do you exemplify this with your athletes? #TXHSFBCHAT
In my experience, we end up talking about this ourselves more often than bringing someone in. That’s what makes @brendatracy24 an outstanding resource for coaches to spread their influence #TXHSFBCHAT
It's important to bring in educators. It's vital coaches co-sign. I can come talk to a team, but the coach saying "I support Brenda, let's listen to her. I brought her in for this reason...." means more to the players #TXHSFBCHAT
You can download my pledge at https://t.co/vATpAZigkb The pledge contains important talking points. I put them there so you can start the convo. Adding your own personal experiences can make it more impactful for your players. #TXHSFBCHAT

This is IMPORTANT. Do your players know where you stand? Do they know their behavior matters? They know what happens if they fail a class. Do they know what happens if they abuse someone? #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q3: Does your team have a policy regarding committing violent acts against a person? What are the consequences? #TXHSFBCHAT
Our district policy removed the decision from us. Removed to alternative school for 40 days of school and then 20 days when return to their sport #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I just had learned a former player murdered his girlfriend this week. My conversations should have been more specific in the past and I will be making a point to be very clear where I stand on violence against a person #TXHSFBCHAT

Our athletes know more than we want to think. They have access to EVERYTHING on their phones. They don't necessarily need you for information, but they need you to validate what's right and wrong. They need your help to decipher the info. #TXHSFBCHAT
And sharing this experience and what you would do differently is an impactful and real conversation. Our kids appreciate honesty and transparency. #TXHSFBCHAT

HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q5: How can coaches use our influence to have a greater impact on our kids during the short time we have them? #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: Like @brendatracy24 stated earlier, let them know they can talk to us, and keep sharing with our kids. Be totally honest with them and also live out what you teach. They need to see you being respectful and having healthy relationships too #TXHSFBCHAT
This can be many things, but 1st, be authentic. There shouldn't be a discrepancy between what u SAY & how u LIVE your life. 2nd, #settheexpectation & follow thru. Tough love is hard, but if u care about your players u will set boundaries. Have hard conversations #TXHSFBCHAT
