Becoming a good conversationalist requires having a certain set of skills in your communication toolbox https://t.co/vEA2UF1qwc
A1: An administrator's blog allows dialogue between the school and its community as long as it allows comments and sharing.
Teachers remember, "Even on your worst day, you can be someone's best hope." Manny Scott
It could possibly be a better way to get information out to students and parents about the school with the rise of technology
Writing a school blog for an admin should be a no-brainer. It offers transparency and allows the Admin to tell the school's story
An advantage is that it brings is the promotion of critical and analytical thinking

Thanks Christopher... so what's your experience been with administrator's blogs? Worth the effort?
Another positive is that it increases exposure to quality content
Hey - in a walk through, what are things you are documenting?
I think about how blogging offers invitations to engage and be reflective. I would love administrators to blog about their growth.
In your opinion, how has the internet changed the way we gather information? How does it change the way we teach?
Thanks Sharon... how often do you post? What format/style?
What might seem fun at first will soon start to seem like work.
I believe most Admins do not want to offer more exposure to the public on their thoughts and philosophy in a school blog.
It was helpful to me to spend time with the district media expert. Crafting a message is almost as important as the message itself.
If you want BLOG TO BE READ it must be informative, timely, accessible, and fun. Anything less, not worth the effort.
Routine communication via blogs, Facebook, Twitter etc should be done by PR staff.
In my school it was a quick way to see information, day to day, even on the weekend, without having to wait

WHEN you use text, images, sounds, and video to capture and convey the happenings of school day. Ps, Ts, Ss more likely to follow...
It takes courage for anyone to write a public blog. Administrators need more courage b/c they are exposing their careers.
What do schools & teachers do well, that we need to STOP doing? Great question
Blogging offers me opportunities to celebrate& share. This is a way for me to connect=growth. Yessir takes time, but valuable.
What question do you want to ask Jim Collins author of good to great?
Any admin who doesn’t desire to share his/her vision isn’t worth her/his salt.
Once worked with a leader who posted 2-3 times a month and said "why bother, no one reads this stuff." FREQUENCY
I wonder about how this thinking might change and offer opportunities to widen perspective instead of being afraid.
You have 6 followers for every 1 you follow. That doesn’t fit with your Shameless Guide.
I agree! It gives them a chance to show more dedicated time to their district and school outside of their school duties
When principal or superintendent commits to making a blog her platform then it becomes the must go place for Ps, Ts, and Ss…
It is able to show the people who aren't in the school what is going on
If you have a school blog, what does it reflect? Rules, regulations, and schedule or feelings, aspirations, and joys? Just asking…
Putting out a meaningful post once a week is about all you can expect from a busy admin.
Yes & then a conversation can begin, connect and develop strong relationships for change that supports growth, need
Images and videos on the school/district blog should mostly some from kids and staff.

The more Admins share their positive exoeriences in school blogs the more Admins might be willing to try it.
First year admin. and I'm starting one soon. They seem worthwhile once established.
I agree. I've really been using Twitter a lot more now that I'm in the admin role.
So, principal/supt what do you want your blog to convey? One-stop place for school information? Spotlight cool things for teachers?
How do we realize a future of learning where every child fulfills their boundless potential? https://t.co/rWU0gVdk7M
I feel like a school blog would also give students a chance to give feedback on what it going on in school, in one convenient place
HEY TEACHERS, if your principal were to blog what types of posts would you most like read? Optimal frequency of post? What else?
Sending out tweets takes little time. You can do it as you wander around visiting schools and classes
then expanding it & encouraging staff members to start contributing to a school blog can be a game changer!
Maybe if there is one blog per school, and many faculty work together to run it, it would not be as much work to do
The big negative for any edunblogging is STUPIDITY! don't take stupid positions attacking parents or kids. Blogging is very public
Have a Good evening! We're signing off till tomorrow 👍🏻
A weekly digital newsletter has allowed me as principal to communicate w/entire school community & share https://t.co/xqUyDbVbHv
That's pretty much the reason our district has started to focus on Twitter. Easy to learn and use.
I wouldn’t put rules and regulations on a blog. Save that for district web site. Go with opinions, advice, ect.
Reflections on school vision that highlights teachers, students and also community. Look for highlighting community.
Be sure to follow people who follow you. Try to respond to student/staff/parent tweets.
Blogging is some of the best PD I've experienced! It's critical reflection that let's me see where I was & where I might be going!
You need to be a good writer and have good content. Good writers write a lot and get good feedback from good editors.
At some point consider guest posts from students/staff/parents.
A blog by an Admin no matter how difficult it may be for that Admin will go a long way in establishing their position of leadership.
Accept guest posts from students.
HMW address mindful moonshot thinking?
Instead of a student newspaper have the students run the school blog.
Twitter is great for PD as these experiences show.
Keep in mind that you are blogging for the world. You can be negative about ideas but not about people.
That is one way to do it! Maybe have a student worker position in the office to get information out fast
I would like to see have a weekly blog highlighting the school week. Already does this in email form.
Paid positions for students are great. I use to hire student programmers. Now hire to manage social media
LOVE this idea, - getting Ss, Ps, Ts invested in the blog is great. Time-consuming, but good. https://t.co/bLPI4kpvKS
At some point consider guest posts from students/staff/parents.
Blogging ... Yes I should do it more often ... Great for reflection and highlighting activities

. Defend the defensible and expose the indefensible is always the smart way to go in my book.
as Shulman says, "when properly understood, teaching is about listening and learning is about talking."
What topics should an Admin Blog discuss? I could probably get my principal onboard if I had an idea.
What year-end speaking activities do your students do? National Speaking Week is May 16th!
That is a great way to look at it. If all teachers/admin took this stance, where would education be today? https://t.co/r6LbZlSvSy

if you know your community you'll know which SM platform to use
F2F is always important. All admins need to get out of the office a lot.
100% agreed on the F2F element!
FB is hot with parents and grandparents. Not with students.
no substitute for F2F... think of a blog as an exclamation point...
Thanks out to for moderating today. Without him this might not even be possible on a continuing basis.
Agreed--each SM outlet has its merits. Thx!
You could ask students for a pseudonym they would like to use to display their work for privacy
