#6thchat is used to chat, collaborate, and grow with other sixth grade educators from around the globe. Each session we discuss a topic voted on by #6thchat participants. It's a great way to help grow your PLN and share ideas with others.

A1) I believe that as a T, I know my needs and strengths. I think that it is important to not wait to be "fed" but to learn to "cook" for oneself! Having a recipe for professional growth that provides me with needed "nutrients" will help me, in turn, better teach my Ss. #6thchat
A1: Generally, we are aware (or made aware) of where our deficiencies are. Personalized learning allows Ts to grow in those areas that best fit their needs. #6thchat
Tis the season of super busy-ness! I appreciate all of my #6thchat tribe and any time you can spare! I always learn from you! Happy Teacher Appreciation day!
If we are expected to personalize learning for our Ss, our leadership should be kind enough to do the same for us. How many of us have had #edcamp style learning take place in our schools? #6thchat
A1: I am also fortunate to work at a school that encourages individual learning. My admin supports what I think will make me a better T, even if no other T is completing the same learning. #6thchat
A1 Just like our student we have more agency to learn when what we're learning is relevant to what we want/need to do now and in the future. We know our own needs as well or better than anyone and that should drive our professional learning! #6thchat
A1 We now what we have mastered, what we have not, and where we need to grow for our students. We are not a one size fits all model, so we each need our own individual growth model. #6thchat
A1: I know resources (code word for $$$) are generally low for professional learning. I think providing master teachers the opportunity to teach mini courses within a PD day would be highly beneficial to any school system. #6thchat
A2: I have been thinking about this in last few days...#1 = G Suite certificaiton. #2 = getting better at tching grammar within the writing #3 = differentiating for Ss with specific needs who are not on IEPs. #6thchat
A2: My top 3 are:
1. Differentiation of content
2. Focusing on writing professionally (blog, book idea)
3. Creating a flexible learning space for my Ss.
#6thchat
A2: 1. Picking a methodology that will fit full inclusion & differentiation - it can't exclude diverse needs. 2. New tech (for me) - thinking microbit. 3. Rewrite my sci curriculum(s). #6thchat
I know. I am incredibly grateful to @ugafrank and @jetteryderdad for their understanding of the value of PLN and PL in general. They are thought leaders on this. #6thchat

@PrincipalSmart, @ugafrank, @jetteryderdad
I agree! I had two amazing teacher leaders teaching us how to start our own blogs to use for professional learning portfolios! They were awesome! #6thchat
This time of year would be perfect because teachers would have time to plan with their new found skills. They could them implement them during the next year. #6thchat
#6thchat what do you think of using @padlet or @flipgrid this summer to share out our progress on any personalized learning we are doing? Brainstorming!
A3) If I am serious about writing, for example, I need to "create" or "write" every day to build the habit. I like the idea of spending the summer in a creating mindset! #6thchat
A3: I really want to focus on creating content that people want. I need to look at Twitter chats and research areas of focus. Then, I need to ensure I am spending some amount of time writing each week this summer to make sure I am keeping my passion and focus up. #6thchat
A3: For me - What disabilities might make this difficult to process/connect? What external prompting is needed & how should I scaffold it to include Ss who are challenged? #6thchat
We are starting school wide student digital portfolios for next year so I am excited to learn about the possibilities and think about organization and structure. #6thchat
A4) I use @padlet to collect ideas and resources for my own learning; I also think it is important to find twitter chats that specifically are focused on some of the areas in which I want to grow. I think that blogging is another way to share out & reach others. #6thchat
Interesting but I have been pondering this Q in a similar fashion. I think that when a T does a passion project, they better understand how a Ss may benefit from similar engaging work. #6thchat
A3 These questions take me back to my Master's action research. When passion aligns with problem solving for a need, innovation and creation flourish! #6thchat
A4: I have a plan to set a reminder on my Google Calendar to alert me to set aside time to research, write, and reflect on my plan. Twitter will be a place I visit nightly. #6thchat
A4: I'm lucky in this regard, too. I have admin who meet and help us with this. I am looking at a local G Suite boot camp that culminates in the cert exam, a writer's workshop, and developing a presentation for an educator's conference. #6thchat
A4 Become a huge fan of listening to podcasts lately during my commute. Wonderful education folks like @cultofpedagogy deliver experts on a variety of relevant ed topics through meaningful interviews. #resourcesexplosion! #6thchat
A4 I have totally changed my beliefs of education over the past 2 years. The shift has allowed me to pursue and implement these new core beliefs into my classroom. This only happened due to my own personal PD. #6thchat
A5: If I am successful, my Ss will benefit greatly because I can provide them a more student-centered classroom where they have the freedom to learn in ways that meet their needs. I professionally will have an avenue to share my journey with other educators. #6thchat
A5 An informed, skilled teacher is a powerful facilitator of learning for ALL students. We don't own the learning, but we do help plan experiences that get our students opportunities to know and do more! They need us to develop ourselves for that job! #6thchat
A5 I feel like my year will get off to an organized and exciting start and my students should benefit as I turn more of the learning over to them. #6thchat
I forgot all about this!!! TY so much for the reminder. Have to call it a night for now, but TY, TY, TY for another great recharge for my personal batteries! #6thchat
A6: I like the idea of making a @padlet or setting calendar reminders to do some PD. To hold myself accountable I need to set goals and general plans in place early in summer with points to be at #6thchat
A6: I have two accountabilibuddies I go on a weekly basis to refocus me and provide stress relief. Though we don't work together, we rely on each other's support to continue growing. @AubreyEMc#6thchat
A6) Checking in with #6thchat, journaling, perhaps doing that blogging I have considered, and perhaps these shared ideas such as @Flipgrid and @padlet ideas. #6thchat
Well, #6thchat, that's my time. Thanks for letting me grow with you all. I look forward to next time.
Good night and happy #TeacherAppreciationDay to all of you! I'm glad to have you all in my professional life!
A6 We are all working on digital portfolios as a staff with the expectation everyone is in. It will help keep us all moving if we work together. #6thchat
A7) I always set a workout and health-related goal. Last year I worked out 80 hours. :Will do something similar, some time poolside, and just reading books that are "for fun" plus family time #6thchat
A7: I have 1 week in June & 3 in August so it's a complete and total shutdown. Not sure what I will do but I have to work smart in summer term so I'm not scrambling over a short summer break. I might build a small pond. #6thchat
A7 Heading to the beach with my family and then helping two of my kids get ready to move out for the first time -- apartment and dorm life. Bittersweet, but exciting time to enjoy with them! #6thchat
Similar with my youngest son moving to Chicago for his first job after graduating from college! Both boys are "launched" and so it will be a unique summer! #6thchat
A8 I plan to map out the work I want to accomplish week by week. This will hold me accountable and will also ensure I don't burn out by doing to much. It's a plan for balance so I rest and renew too! #6thchat
