The mission of #TynkerChat: Are we adequately preparing students for an unknown future? Can we, through community and sharing, make this unknown “known?” Let us lift up the conversation about making sure that when our students enter the workforce- they have the skills to thrive.
#TynkerChat will be held every Monday, starting March 13th.
Welcome to this week's #TynkerChat! We're thinking big about how to make every #STEM moment a #STEAM moment. Tell us who you are and where you're from!
We'll be using the typical Q & A format! Join the conversation! First question in 2 min! This week we're talking about: Putting the 'A' in #STEAM. Follow along on our @participate page here: https://t.co/JZuKChEIBf#Tynkerchat
A1: Art and Design can not only compliment the other 4 domains in STEM but also addresses what I think is the main C of the 4 Cs Creativity. #TynkerChat
Truth! Stem is all about design and the art piece is integral. Plus we are talking about human experiences as well so it’s all part of the design process. #TynkerChat
A1: As @mrmillerreads said you can't build bridges, buildings, etc without the art component. These designs must be appealing to the masses. #tynkerchat
A1: Cheap plug, but our Ss we’re digging the Storytelling lesson in P101 @gotynker course today. Were adding blocks to augment the tutorial #TynkerChat
A2: There is art in almost all math. Designing a patio, you need math and art. Need to light your home, the fixture needs design. They are not stand-alone subjects. Real world. #tynkerchat
As @mres discussed in #lifelongKDG we need to provide opportunities and embrace the little c not just the big C. Join us Thursday for the 1st #lifelongKDG twitter book chat #TynkerChat
A2: When you look a thet common core standards there is a heavy focus on constructions and #geometry which smoothly relates to #projectbasedlearning in Art class. #tynkerchat
Coding is all creativity. Web design and app design is all creativity. Show them a good website and a poorly designed website let them see why creativity in coding is exciting. #tynkerchat
Great point and we (myself included) need to be wary of the copy this and run it approach to learning coding. Always have students go beyond and add that creative / original piece. #TynkerChat
A3: The design process is not mandatory to ensure that math is applied is other content areas. The beauty of art is that it embraces creativity and is not rigid. The more we can look at STEM through that lens the better #tynkerchat
A4: The world needs more engineers with vision. Tell your creative art students that they can be engineers. I tell my students to go into product design or industrial design. #tynkerchat
Thanks again everybody! Thank you so much for joining #TynkerChat today! Keep the conversation going all week long with the hashtag! And if you want to take your skills further, join the @gotynker Blue Ribbon Educators! https://t.co/PytMZcYGWF
