Hello #tlap! Melissa, Elementary Principal from Pensacola FL. Thankful for a team that is all in for kids, peers that I can learn and grow with, and my house full of boys that makes even the hardest days worth it.
Hello everyone I'm a future social science teacher currently at SJSU. I am thankful for having an amazing support team of professors and teacher mentors. #tlap

A1 I tell them. I try not to hold back gratitude. If I think it, I say it. We hold back enough in life. Build people up by telling them the talents you see #tlap
A1 I am vocal and just say it. I was challenged as a result of the #oklaed chat last night to be more intentional in expressing my gratitude to fellow Ts and staff as well as Ss before the break starts for us tomorrow. #tlap
A1: I try to remind my students that they are the best part of my job! We all know our co-workers are a second family and also deserve our gratitude for their professionals and personal support #tlap
A1: Spread #gratitude thick!! Emails, written notes, f2f, tell others about it, publicly, privately, shoot a DM, etc...there are as many ways as things to feel thankful for. #tlap
A1: I'm Sara from MT! Handwritten notes to parents about how wonderful their student is! With coworkers I say thanks a lot, and sometimes bring coffee. #tlap
A1 I love to say it in words, write handwritten cards, mail things the old fashioned way, take them out for a meal. Make people feel special. I once took my entire class for breakfast and taught lesson at a restaurant. Just to thank them for everything. #tlap
A1: I try to specifically point out things that I am grateful for with my students and colleagues. Sometimes it is written, sometimes it is verbal. I just want them to know how thankful I am and that I recognize what they are doing! #tlap
A1: By telling them in class, in the hall, high fives, fist bumps, tossing them bubble gum, & I treat the staff to a coffee/hot chocolate bar in my classroom 1st hour during Dec. #tlap
A1: I'm Sara from MT! Handwritten notes to parents about how wonderful their student is! With coworkers I say thanks a lot, and sometimes bring coffee. #tlap
A1: I express gratitude toward my students by giving them a big smile when I pick them up! I want them to know I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn together #tlap
#tlap I express #gratitude with my words-they are always used to inspire, uplift and empower them. I write them notes, I take mindful walks w/them. I stop & chat to see where they are...show them daily ❤️
#tlap I say thank you for learning with me at every bell. I think actions though speak louder than words: I listen, make eye contact, smile and keep a positive mindset to help elevate joy every day
A1: I love giving thank you notes!! It’s a simple gesture that allows for genuine appreciation! We even have a Stationery Station set up in our staff mailroom so Ts can leave quick notes of thanks! #tlap
A1: Spread #gratitude thick!! Emails, written notes, f2f, tell others about it, publicly, privately, shoot a DM, etc...there are as many ways as things to feel thankful for. #tlap
A1 Last year I recorded telling a couple students that they are reason's I come to school each day. For staff, a short note or email can go a long way. #tlap
A1 Each week I choose a different adult human, sometimes two, and shower then with love and gifts and treats. This is completely anonymous. Big morale booster and that directly impacts the kiddos. #tlap
A1: I teach Guidance lessons to third grade one day a week- I follow up with each student and check with them throughout the week. With my team I like to get them ice cream sandwiches from time to time! #tlap
coffee runs...my specialty! Tim Hortons or Starbucks. A small drink goes a long way. Some of my friends know that I am obsessed with sending out gift cards too! Any small gesture makes a difference! #tlap
A1 I love to say it in words, write handwritten cards, mail things the old fashioned way, take them out for a meal. Make people feel special. I once took my entire class for breakfast and taught lesson at a restaurant. Just to thank them for everything. #tlap
A1: Today, we had each student write something nice about another student, and we put all the messages on a sheet of paper labeled with their name. They did one for my CT and I, and it was powerful. #tlap
A1: (2) for Ss I like to send notes or make a positive call home, express thanks to them on my classroom gratitude board, acknowledge their actions/attitude that I appreciate. #tlap
A2 It is hardest when I think I am in control. I have to see the bigger picture, that I have a team, and that it is NOT about me. When it is about me, I lose...every time #tlap
A1: We read "All the good things" and did the activity that was described. I loved spreading kindness. The world needs more of that. #tlaphttps://t.co/UCVmF9AuJC
I have a friend who can make lattes and flavored coffees. She gives me the menu, I buy the stuff. She sets up in my room and fills orders. My Ss deliver. #tlap
Worked with this group last year on weather newscasts so they know the tech. This year upping it and togas to add to character. Amazing group of kids and teachers who let kids create. #sstlap#tlap # gbedchat

A1: I drop "Paws-itive notes" to students and teachers. I also have a Staff Shout Out Board to highlight good things happening. Each month the staff get certificates with their shoutout! Have to give high fives everyday! #tlap
A1: Been making lots of positive phone calls home today for conferences. Amazing the response when parents realize you are calling home to praise their kid! #tlap
A2 - When I am busy. I get focused and do not like my concentration being broken. I have to remember I am there for my students and everything I do is all about them, so my busyness comes after their needs. #tlap
A1: Like that one of our Ts sends a weekly email gently reminding everyone that it's Thankful Thursday so try to send a special note to someone today #tlap
Hey everyone my name is Dominique Berritto, I am currently a student at San Jose state #sstp. I am thankful for having great friends on my birthday today. #tlap
Just wanted to give a shoutout to @StantonAlana. She is one of my inspirations and is one of the kindest teachers I know. She truly has a heart of gold. #tlap
A1 I love sending my first email each day as a #gratitude email. I just randomly thank someone (teacher, principal, colleague, student, custodian, bus driver, etc) via email. 📩👉🏼https://t.co/x3SwO8URks#tlap#BookSnaps#LEADlap
#tlap A2: Thankfulness doesn’t always come across in debate, remediation, constructive criticism, or disagreement- but it can always come across in thoughtfulness, tone, intention, and acting human.
A2: we should always be thankful, but when things pile up & the stress is almost unbearable always be thankful for your support system. They keep you centered and focused on helping students succeed #tlap
Absolutely! I also love acknowledging the new haircuts or hairstyles they come in with. I know I like when people notice, so I figure my Ss do too. #tlap
I like to express gratitude to Ss and co-workers with personalized cards, compliments, in person gratitude, a kind email, or by doing random acts of kindness.
#tlap
A2: When you don't get what you want from the kids that day. I try to overcome, by sending positive email homes to parents. Helps me remember that there was light on a cloudy day. #tlap
A2- when dealing with a crisis. I have to avoid going into crisis management mode. Have to remember to still be thankful even when times are tough #tlap
A1: Often Times the TY comes in the form of us just enjoying each other’s company. But a random lunch doesn’t hurt. So thankful for this team. #tlap#RCSeLearn
A2 When I am overworked and overtired. Then I tend to be forgetful for thanking. I try to remind myself to make a person smile everyday and do at least one kind gesture per week. It is so important to make a difference. For some, it means the world. I see it as a privilege. #tlap
It's no fun when thankfulness gets pushed to the bottom of a to do list. Gratitude is definitely a mindset and lifestyle--one which I hope I live daily--but the urgency of other things in our day make it difficult sometimes! #tlap
A2 I struggle when faced with mistakes of others I could have helped prevent. Have to stop, reflect, and be thankful for the opportunity to help fix as well as teach how to prevent next time! #tlap
A2: When I am stressed and pressed for time it can be hard for me to stop and express how thankful I am. It doesn't mean that I don't feel it though. I always try to go back and tell the person later. #tlap
A2) I have to remind myself to slow down and be intentional about showing gratitude. I do best in the morning before students arrive. Once Ss come, they're our focus. #tlap
Expressing gratitude should be ongoing & authentic & not based solely on something a teacher does, but for who they are and what they bring to the table #tlap
A2: Thanking the paras and secretaries and janitors is important and sometimes we get busy and forget to thank them for all of the hard work that they do. #tlap
A2 It's hardest to show I'm thankful when I'm in reactive mode rather than proactive mode. If I'm putting out fires I have to constantly remind myself to stop and smell/thank the roses. I have notes all over my office to remind me.. #tlap
Just wanted to give a shoutout to @StantonAlana. She is one of my inspirations and is one of the kindest teachers I know. She truly has a heart of gold. #tlap
A1: I drop "Paws-itive notes" to students and teachers. I also have a Staff Shout Out Board to highlight good things happening. Each month the staff get certificates with their shoutout! Have to give high fives everyday! #tlap
A2 As an Instructional Coach - I’m pulled in lots of directions. I like to be everywhere for everyone. Sometimes I have to slow down to recognize greatness. #tlap
A2: Hard to be thankful when negativity is spewed on a child. I dig deep and send along an inspirational blog or post to lift that T up... thankful for opportunity to impact others #tlap
A2: Always too easy to get tunnel vision on your own space with school being so busy. Taking even 5 minutes to reflect on the big picture each day helps. #tlap
Who doesn't love some thank you email?
Girl, I dread email so much, but if I thought for two seconds there might be something sweet, I'd be pumped.😜 #tlap
A2: There’s so much going on over the course of the day that it can sometimes get put off. I make a point to stop & write the thank you note right away so it doesn’t slip my mind! #tlap
A2: In my role the difficulty in expressing gratitude more would just be in the fact that I'm still trying to build relationships and learn how people prefer to receive praise or gratitude so it's personal.
#tlap
Yes! I agree. Say thank you. And one thing I have learned is my students need to know their names. How little they hear it Cafe, Custodians, and tech crew #tlap
A2: Thanking the paras and secretaries and janitors is important and sometimes we get busy and forget to thank them for all of the hard work that they do. #tlap
A2: It should never be hard. However, in the day to day things that happen it is easy to take for granted all the good that happen in schools everyday. When things get stressful it is important to step back and appreciate our role. Be thankful! #tlap

Q3: Thinking of the @burgessdave PIRATE philosophy, which area do you feel you could improve to help become more positive & thankful in your educator role? Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask & Analyze, Transformation or Enthusiasm? #tlap
#tlap When I am so busy I am locked in my classroom trying to stay afloat. But this is the best opportunity to do just that. When we feel isolated we feel frustrated and forget to be thankful. Reaching out helps us feel united and appreciated.
Not only do I love this-I'm going to start doing it tomorrow. Imagine how your mindset shifts when the first email you send is one of #gratitude. #OneSmallThing#tlap See Below #VBHasJoy🌻@hollorans

A2: I feel like, in the midst of all we have to do, it is hard to reflect and display our gratitude. I want to do the positivity project where teachers say what they appreciate about certain students. Gratitude is so important. #tlap
A2 It’s hardest to show thankfulness when colleagues don’t support what you think would be best for students. Honestly, a little twitter therapy goes a long way on those days. #TLAP
RT @PCookTech: @JayBilly2 Absolutely! We focused on #mindfulness last year for this reason. Need to remember to be present in what you are doing. #tlap
#tlap When I am so busy I am locked in my classroom trying to stay afloat. But this is the best opportunity to do just that. When we feel isolated we feel frustrated and forget to be thankful. Reaching out helps us feel united and appreciated.
A2: I struggle when someone being negative creates roadblocks to the work. I have to look beyond that moment and find something positive to recognize and be grateful for. #tlap
A2: At times the small group of naysayers that seem so loud, can distract me from seeing all the great things that I can be thankful for. It can, also, be tough when things get hectic. #tlap
Q3: Thinking of the @burgessdave PIRATE philosophy, which area do you feel you could improve to help become more positive & thankful in your educator role? Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask & Analyze, Transformation or Enthusiasm? #tlap
A3: I always want to improve my teaching & classroom so I feel asking/analyzing would be where I need to continuously improve foethe arydents I teach #tlap
A2 Ronald Fisher jumping in late, The hardest time is at the end of the day and I am sending the Ss out the door, they want out, and I'm worn out - over come this with some #learnLAP reflection 15 min. before the end of the day, works better than when bell rings. #tlap
A2: Hardest time to be thankful is when others are bringing down the positive vibe. The way to fight through it is to come together and remember the why. #tlap
You will get this. People who make changes will have adversity. If you make a difference you see resistance! This tells you you're on the right track #tlap

A2: I don’t know that it’s HARD, but I think for some it might feel awkward to be grateful and caring AND having authority. It’s an awkward balance at times when people are not used this this kind of leadership #tlap
A3 My challenge will be to be more thankful in the Transformation part. When teachers and students transform their usual way of doing things, I want to make sure and shout it from the rooftops, make them feel beyond special for getting out of comfort zone! #tlap
Q3: Thinking of the @burgessdave PIRATE philosophy, which area do you feel you could improve to help become more positive & thankful in your educator role? Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask & Analyze, Transformation or Enthusiasm? #tlap
A3: Hmmmm, people who know me would say..... Hmmmm - I'm going to say I form Immersion because I am always taking care of business and moving to the next thing #tlap
A2: When the day first gets started and you’re trying to identify your priorities. Too much me and not enough us. I need to spend more time being grateful for the opportunity to work with such awesome people #TLAP
@burgessdave I couldn’t help but think about this passage today during a great lesson! Kids were trying to get into my class to be part of the lesson. #tlap
A3: Thinking I could be more thankful and encouraging of others' Passions. I THINK it's awesome to see what they do, but don't TELL them often enough. #NewPlan#tlap
A3: I need to be more thankful when my teachers and students transform! Celebrate their ability to transform the way they think, grow, collaborate, expore and develop. Instead of moving on the "next thing" I will give thanks for the transformations I have made as well! #tlap
A2 It’s hardest to show thankfulness when colleagues don’t support what you think would be best for students. Honestly, a little twitter therapy goes a long way on those days. #TLAP
A3: I feel like I need to work on transformation. I am a pre-service teacher who is passionate about the prospect of changing lives, but I am working on transforming myself to be more effective. I am always trying to be the teacher I wanted to be on day one. #tlap
A3: Toughest in my role is Immersion. Love it when I’m in Buildings& classrooms so I can see the awesomeness happening in our District. #RCSeLearn#RCSNextGen#tlap
A3 My job is all about analyzing. Helping to run effective PLCs can transform a school, but not recognizing the hard work that Ts do can be detrimental. We are always looking for the FUN. #tlap
A3 Ask and Analyze, because so much of this doesn't leave my own brain...I'm constantly working to socialize the learning of my teachers and students and forget to do that for myself!.. #tlap
A2 On the hardest of days, I am surrounded by people who smile, give me a hug, or tell me I’m doing a great job. I have to remember those people and to give them the reciprocal as time allows. #tlap
Q3: Thinking of the @burgessdave PIRATE philosophy, which area do you feel you could improve to help become more positive & thankful in your educator role? Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask & Analyze, Transformation or Enthusiasm? #tlap
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
A3: When I am analyzing my practice or any situation I tend to overanalyze and Lead myself into negative thinking. Sometimes my reflection can bring me down when I feel that I could be doing better.
#tlap
I need to be even more grateful when someone who has presented roadblocks has that moment where the "Why?" becomes the priority. If they already do that, I'm always positive. If they struggle, it can take me time to get there. #tlap
A3 I'd like to improve my immersion in my schools, esp. in classrooms. Would provide many more opportunities to be positive and thankful w/ Ts and Ss! #tlap
A3: Rapport. In my role, it is difficult to get to know everyone with depth because there are so many faculty members. Taking the time to develop those relationships will help me carry out the attitude of gratitude further. #tlap
A3 Some soul searching tonight on #tlap All of those areas, could use some fine tuning, I'll pick Rapport, because I do make a difference, I need to be thankful for the opportunities that I do have to share my passions, but to do so I need to build a rapport with my colleagues.
#tlap Ask & Analyze- I need to listen to and accept more ideas from my team. I need to compromise more. I love to innovate and be creative spontaneously and my weakness is I tend to jump into my ideas without collaborating with me team.
Q3: Thinking of the @burgessdave PIRATE philosophy, which area do you feel you could improve to help become more positive & thankful in your educator role? Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask & Analyze, Transformation or Enthusiasm? #tlap
A1 write notes, stop everything to point out appreciation for a student. There's always thank you notes lying around the teacher work room near the mailboxes.
#tlap
A3: Immersion! Need to remember that everyone (in various roles) are fighting different battles & need affirmation! Look for options to celebrate & lift EVERYONE up! #tlap
A2: Getting feedback is always a struggle. Not taking things personal. Understanding that it's to help me be the best version of myself possible. That helps change my mindset. Then I'm grateful for the help. #tlap
Why is it that many people do not practice gratitude on a daily basis? It has the power to brighten a person's day. We should thank individuals more often. #changetheflow#bethechange#tlap
A4 We need more positivity and kindness in the world. To help Ss and Ts discover passion and happiness we need to build and model gratitude. Thank them for being there, for learning, for trying, for trusting. Challenge them. Make it fun. Make a difference. #tlap
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
Q3: I’m going with ask and analyze... I want to be the one that surveys and then uses that info for the better! I want to act on the opportunity gifted to me! #tlap
A4: Through example I think is the only way. I am in a new job this year and am so grateful for it I have yet to leave work in a "bad mood" We must choose what to focus on and teach our Coworkers and Ss to do the same #tlap
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
It's like Dave is sitting there w/ each teacher as they create a wildly awesome lesson & gives them a thumbs up while quietly saying, "This is good. Go for it." We need that encouragement sometimes. #tlap

A3 #tlap I am enthusiastic and I build relationships with my students easily but I am working hard to build a strong rapport with my colleagues-this is the challenge for me-I tend to be independent and less of a team player
A4: when a S is upset by unexpected outcomes, I try to help refocus them on the positive by asking questions that lead them; I also show how I take the unexpected and find the good and continue on #tlap
When the Ss were writing what they appreciate about me, I realized I am making a difference. I never feel like I am, so that reassurance is priceless. #tlap
A4: When Ss are part of activities that help others less fortunate, it provides them with a perspective, highlighting how they've been blessed.. Being generous helps them appreciate what they have, makes them feel useful & fosters empathy. #tlap
In the districts and schools and classrooms I've seen fall apart, gratitude and passion were inauthentic. School leaders said they were thankful and then demonstrated the exact opposite. I will never let that happen in my work. Never. #tlap
#tlap
A4:Fully immerse that mindset in the culture of your classroom-build in time, procedures, and expectations along the https://t.co/43VntOgAAt any other thing you to establish in your classroom you need to establish up early and make it a priority.
#tlap
A2: Hardest time to be thankful is when others are bringing down the positive vibe. The way to fight through it is to come together and remember the why. #tlap
A4: I think we have to lead by example. My 1st "bad" dad in my new district came on Day 68. Other than a change from my usual "OUTSTANDING!!!" to "I'm doing OK" when responding to "How are you?" I bet most staff don't know day 68 was a "bad" day. #tlap
A3: Passionately Immerse yourself in building Rapport by Asking how to best do this in such a way that Transforms their day...and do it Enthusiastically! #tlap#LeadLAP
A4. I think you have to demand a culture of positivity in the classroom. Head of any negative thinking, redirect it immediately. Constantly curate a positive culture and above all model it! #tlap
A4) Model gratitude and kindness every day. #CelebrateMonday, remind students to #ChooseKind, and bring in the #AVID celebrations throughout the day. #tlap
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
A4: I would argue we can’t teach it, we have to live. Don’t just be happy to see someone, be happy to be with them. You can see them from afar. To experience requires proximity. #tlap
A4 Embrace the mess, chaos, and difficulties in your path. Seek to make someone’s day and reach out as needed. Have a positive mindset & goodness will flow. #tlap
A4 in order to actually feel thankful, teachers have to be unguarded and feel safe, as do students. It's my job as an AP to created a space where these peeps are taking risks and fearless enough to name thanks and be open. #tlap
Q5: The Life-Changing Lesson Hook from #tlap comes to mind (p.104). What type of essential Q's do you ask to allow S's or T's the opportunity for personal reflection & growth? When you find this most helpful?
A4: Be purposeful in thanking each other at every possible moment. Holding a door, passing out papers, being at school. Take time to thank those around you for the little things they say and do. #tlap
A4 For me, it’s modeling. I am seriously that PollyAnna/Mrs Frizzle who looks for things to notice and wonder about out loud. Let them hear your gratitude all day long. #TLAP
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
A4: Good leaders motivate & inspire all those around them (students/staff alike) to be the best that they can be. Set the example through positivity, kindness & compassion always. It’s contagious. #tlap
A4: When I was younger, I used to thank you notes/emails to teachers because I always wanted to be one and knew the work they put in. I still try to lead by example and spread kindness. You never regret being kind. #tlap
A3: I think I could be more passionate, I'll admit there are some lessons that I can totally get behind and some that I would rather just skip. So finding ways for me to get excited about it would help me pass that excitement on to my class. #tlap
A4- That’s tough. Ts work hard. They create engaging lessons. Prep high level questions. Tutor kids. Plan after school. Call parents. Conference. ARDs. #thatMOMENTwhenyourKIDSgetIt. #tlap Ss are the JOY
A4 Make a big deal about the little things. I call these Easter eggs at home. Remind the ss that THEY can be the good they wish to see, and practice it daily #tlap
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
A4b: By constantly focusing on how I can serve my staff and build relationships with them, I believe they see how grateful I am for what they do. I like to think that "passes" along to others. #tlap
A4: I model showing gratitude & being thankful w/ my Ss! I encourage them to show their appreciation for others!! Spreading kindness is our mission! #tlap
a kid and I just talked about this today! We agreed that you need about 5cm of self-irony/perfectionism…just enough to dip a finger in to so you can use it to move forward. Any more holds you back! #tlap
A4: Modeling a 'glass half full' approach to problem solving changes mindsets. Yes, there are challenges, but we overcome them positively facing challenges as opportunities. #tlap
A4: I model showing gratitude & being thankful w/ my Ss! I encourage them to show their appreciation for others!! Spreading kindness is our mission! #tlap
Somebody ought to make a list of more genuine questions to “how are you doing?” I feel like that question has evolved into an undertone of obligation and in our business authenticity is so important. #tlap#IMMOOC#principalsinaction
A4 First before I answer how Ss embrace this mindset, I love this song: https://t.co/6ZCHPO9Q2H
We teach Ss to embrace gratitude by giving them Passion filled lessons that engage them, they want to be engaged. #tlap
A4: Sometimes it is helpful just to stop and take a deep breath---even as a class. We stop and say that it is okay things aren't working at the moment, but we can figure it out. Kids need us to model that and help them experience those moments. #tlap
The best days of the week for me, (even though it is also the most hectic without prep), are the days I lose myself with the Students. On Thur. & Fri. I do Intramurals with Ss, I do VideoClub and Recess Duty, I immerse myself into their worlds. I don't have time for myself.
A3 #tlap When ego is ejected, we then can see the beautiful picture fall into place. The mosaic that is framed with many hands, through many visions leading to a masterpiece of thought & innovation
The timing of tonight’s discussion about gratitude and being thankful is good… Even with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I needed a wake up call tonight. #tlap
A5 I always ask: what did you enjoy, how did you make a difference, how can I support you achieve your goals & how can you change the world? The most important question is now: how can you make someone's life have more kindness? It is all about relationships. Make it count. #tlap
Q5: The Life-Changing Lesson Hook from #tlap comes to mind (p.104). What type of essential Q's do you ask to allow S's or T's the opportunity for personal reflection & growth? When you find this most helpful?
A4 Gratitude rewires your brain! It's true.
In fact, even just looking for things for which to be grateful releases the same endorphins as antidepressant drugs-serotonin and dopamine. #tlap#REALedu#gratitudesnaps
The timing of tonight’s discussion about gratitude and being thankful is good… Even with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I needed a wake up call tonight. #tlap
A4: It is about culture. It is not one lesson, a single motto, or a book. It is about making gratitude a foundation of the classroom culture from first bell to last. #tlap
A4: Create a "culture of gratitude" that promotes happiness and wonder. Wonder leaders to curiosity, curiosity leaders to innovation and innovation can lead to success. It all begins with being thankful for the experience we have to learn adn grow!! #tlap
Joe from WI grateful to be late than not here at all. A4 Always keep the positive in the forefront & model celebration. Celebrating what is good easily translates into thankfulness. I.E. behold the power of positive thinking #TLAP
A5 My role centers around #edtech so my Qs often relate to that. When Ts and Ss are using tech in a lesson, it can be insightful to ask why it was selected. Don't use #edtech for the sake of using #edtech. #tlap
A4: We've got to model gratitude. When Ss see us being grateful for the gifts that we all have, they will follow suit. Kindness and gratitude are contagious. #tlap
Q5: The Life-Changing Lesson Hook from #tlap comes to mind (p.104). What type of essential Q's do you ask to allow S's or T's the opportunity for personal reflection & growth? When you find this most helpful?

#tlap We instill this philosophy by expressing our gratitude for their focus & commitment every day. By recognizing the little achievements as well as the larger circumstances that make us who we are. By showing the honor them & respect them every chance we get.
Q4: @thezenteacher discusses #gratitude in his book. "When our mind is focused on what we're grateful for, it's nearly impossible to feel unhappy." How can we teach our S's & T's to embrace this #mindset ? #tlap
A5 I ask myself, How can you make it about others and less of yourself?
I bring this into the class & we practice it through teachable moments and morning meeting #tlap
A5: For teachers, "Would you teach that same lesson if your child was sitting in your class? Why or why not?" For students, "How are you going to use what you learned to make a positive difference in your life and/or the lives of others? #tlap
A5: My teacher candidates get tired of me asking these..."What went well? What needs tweaking?" Standard of Ewffective Practice (SEP) #9. Reflective practitioners. 😁 #tlap
Walk to the beat of your own drum ... "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." Henry David Thoreau. #tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
I put Dunkin coupons or other bakery coupons in their mailboxes attached to a small note thanking them for something!!! #tlap#gratitude. #SpreadTheLove
A5: I want my students to reflect on their own actions. After seeing "Wonder" today, we promoted choosing kindness and did activities that correlated with that. #tlap
A4: We've got to model gratitude. When Ss see us being grateful for the gifts that we all have, they will follow suit. Kindness and gratitude are contagious. #tlap
I will try this the upcoming week. Usually we share how our weekend went.... this week we'll share (8th grade Ss) how we made a difference over the Thanksgiving break....differences large or small... Thanks for the idea!
A5 - who are the people who protect you? what have you learned from this? what do I need to know to understand your heart right now?what are some things this showed you about yourself? #tlap
A5: I want my students to reflect on their own actions. After seeing "Wonder" today, we promoted choosing kindness and did activities that correlated with that. #tlap
A5 Tough question. Bring learning close to home by asking “wow, what would you have done if that was you”? Can be helpful to have students step into the lesson. #TLAP
Q5: The Life-Changing Lesson Hook from #tlap comes to mind (p.104). What type of essential Q's do you ask to allow S's or T's the opportunity for personal reflection & growth? When you find this most helpful?
A6: It's about balance, not separation for me. I'm who I am because of work and home. We must acknowledge our imperfections and live in the moment #tlap
A6: I struggle with this. I am taking 19 credits and doing a teaching internship. I try to smile and spread kindness. I leave my worries at home and focus on my AMAZING Ss. I just do not want to be burnt out especially when I am excited for my future. #tlap
A5) We often end sessions or the day with shout outs to classmates. Shout outs are specific and heartfelt. Ss have shown so much growth in this area. #Tlap
A4 my whole lesson tomorrow is based on the story Molly Pilgrim trying to instill in my students that they need to appreciate each other, and more importantly to honor themselves #tlaphttps://t.co/Fc80AzySjO
A6: I don’t. My happiness at work and my happiness at school are interdependent. I love everything I do but I observe the 80% rule: if something is done at 80%, I’m happy and can move on to the next thing #tlap
A6 - I spend time with my own children. I take photos of nature.I read books that have nothing to do with teaching. Love getting lost in a good novel and and endless cup of coffee. #tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
A5 always ask kids to point out something they saw/heard/read that the wish they had thought of. Allows props for others, makes ss think about what they could have done better. #tlap
A5 What do we want our Ss to learn? What will do to teach them/engage them/let them create their learning? What will we do for those that don’t know it? What will we do for those that do? #tlap
A6: This question has come up a lot lately...guess I need to do something about it. It's hard when work is your hobby too! Lunch with friends and trips to the nail salon keep me balanced. #tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
A6 I started turning off notifications on my phone to keep me less prompt dependent, and doing more Twitter chats to give me a place to relax and think! #tlap
I come back to Tom Hierck's idea of the "Why?" Once we agree on the "Why?" I loop back to that. "So, if we are all about X, how does what you propose/are saying support that?" #tlap
A6: That's tough since hubs is tech director for same district. We work even when off work, but we make it family fun time as often as possible. Go to school events as a family & take days away from work as a family. #tlap
Have to head to dinner but special THANKS to @specialtechie for hosting tonight & thanks to the whole #tlap crew for all you do to spread positivity and inspiration!!! #LeadLAP
A6 I've come to the realization that you can only do so much (sleeping is required). I focus on my priorities, keep them in check, & temper expectations. I strive for greatness, but I know attainment may take longer than desired. #tlap
A5: Did you give it your all?? You don’t get a do-over! You can’t get a day or even minutes back! Don’t waste them! Give your ALL & make the most of every opportunity! #tlap
A6: Walking the dog and talking the day out with @JWGilson (when it isn't arctic cold out) Playing the video games and planning. My favourite thing to do to unwind is look at new ways to teach and connect #iamanerd#tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
#tlap This often gets blurry. But I always take time to reflect, meditate and be with my family. I write a lot, stay focused on my school life during the week and my private life after-I leave work at work.
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
A6: I probably struggle here the most. Try to set limits at home and make time each day for a run (today was day 242 of #runstreak) bc it clears my mind + eases stress #tlap#runlap
A6 I try to go to the gym for some me time, reflect and release stress. A date night with my wife is important. Just being with my kids helps. Talking and staying grounded with my best friend is a must. He challenges me to take a break. So thankful. #tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
A6: also, I can see not that self-care is not always about relaxation and withdrawing…sometimes it’s about passionately pursuing things you love despite exhaustion. My hobbies and projects inspire and energize me #tlap
As my wife and I sit downstairs on our laptops, I have to agree. Even family dinner together is a small thing that is critical to my family sanity and relaxation. #tlap
A6: I joined a roller Derby team. Surprisingly, we have a lot of educators on the team. I get an intense workout in while also having another avenue of support. You just can't be in a bad mood on skates ❤️ #tlap
It was great meeting you this weekend. We can't beat ourselves up about the balance. Sometimes it's 60-40 one way, and sometimes it 80-20 the other way #tlap
A6: it’s important I find time each day to cuddle w/ my pups, laugh, & further myself as an educator. These things make me happy so I do them each day #tlap
A6: Running helps me cope with stress & changes my mindset. I must admit it's an area I'm really struggling with right now. Need to get back in the game! #tlap
A6: Whenever possible, I set a time limit for work that I take home. You have to put it aside at some point or burn out makes you resentful, tired and snappy. Hard to be your best and kind to others when you aren't kind to yourself. #tlap
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
A6 I finally came to realization that what I like to do most is actually closely related to my work. So when I read an awesome book like #tlap, or create a fun lesson I’m having fun. Win-win. I make myself be more active by listening to podcasts while I exercise. 🤓
Q6: In order to be positive & thankful at work, you must take time for "self-care". How do you separate your work and personal life so you don't become resentful or burned out? #tlap
Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A6: I turn off my email on my phone. But spending time in my own growth on Twitter or reading some @burgessdave books definitely refocuses me. Working out clears my mind gets me back in the groove! #tlap
A6: This is the epic struggle for most school admin I know. You have to live to play another day and often times that means stepping aside. For me it’s writing or playing guitar. #tlap
A6: One is about me: I get up at 4:30 three days a week to hit the pool and swim laps. The other is for staff but makes me happy: I hang out at a coffee shop waiting for when some of them can join a Twitter chat. #tlap
A6: Running helps me cope with stress & changes my mindset. I must admit it's an area I'm really struggling with right now. Need to get back in the game! #tlap
We all fail. I have a hard time finding that line. But we keep trying. I also have the most understanding wife and kids who know how I live my passion. It is all part of my life. Just trying to live in the moment! #tlap
A6: I was laughing one day because I told my CT that I would take a break and not think of school. That did not go well. :) I ended up finding many resources, and we laughed about it the next day. A teachers brain never shuts off. #tlap
Absolutely, loved hearing you present! With tech I'm always on call so the swing can be big but you're so right - need to be #mindful and #present in the time you get for relaxation or with family! #tlap
Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A6: so hard!! It's easier to turn my "home" brain off at school because it's busy, but home, although busy too, seems to be my weakness. With baby #2 here my goal is to improve! #tlap
As a teacher I am so lucky and so appreciative that I have the opportunity to change even one mindset, outlook. To impact one life. I am blessed it gets to be more. #tlap
A7: Twitter and Facebook Groups have been fantastic. I find the separation from my day to day makes the conversations about the work and not the other outside stuff that sometimes casts clouds over the joys of teaching #tlap
Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A7 It has been almost a year that I have reached out and created a most amazing PLN. My crew, my tribe have been amazing. They encourage and support me. They know when I need a boost and reach out. We challenge and make each other better and stronger. SO THANKFUL. #tlap

We all fail. I have a hard time finding that line. But we keep trying. I also have the most understanding wife and kids who know how I live my passion. It is all part of my life. Just trying to live in the moment! #tlap
A7: By not being afraid to jump in and connect with people on Twitter and Voxer. The EDUs I've met in the #DBCBooks chats are nothing short of amazing. #tlap
Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A6: My peer told me I cannot be a light in other peoples lives if my light is extinguished. If I am tired and not giving myself the love I deserve, then I cannot help others. #tlap
A6: Reading, yoga, and hiking with dog and children help me center myself. I am bad at pulling away from my work, but teaching and learning make me happy. I love talking and learning about it. #tlap
A7: Twitter chats are the best. Attended and presented at my first Edcamp this past weekend. I got to meet some awesome educators like @JayBilly2 and got to hear @burgessdave speak! The converations and connections are incredible! #tlap#edcampnj
A6: Always working at this balance & sometimes finding success. A work in progress for sure. Trying to put my thumb on the scale for family as much as I can. #tlap
A6b: Part of this is honestly easy. "I've been to hell. You just read about it in a book" comes to mind. I have been in a place so negative, that we had to build positive before the results followed. When EVERY day is negative, a place even approaching normal can destress. #tlap
A6: I set aside specific times each day that are for myself (workouts) and others for my family (4pm until kids are in bed). I allow myself special rituals too...Tuesday I have a favorite show, monthly girl's night out, etc.
#tlap
Being a parent and now having my oldest in grade 1 and living education as a dad is making me a better teacher. I appreciate things so much more and know how to reach out more to parents. So thankful for this opportunity. #tlap
And you uplift them! You amaze me all the time Roman. You are real and always remembering your purpose, but more importantly you live it #tlap Thanks for sharing your journey with us

Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A7: As a pre-service teacher, I love my PLN and am so grateful for Twitter because it provides me with a much deeper purpose and rekindles my flame. #tlap
Best quote I have heard on this topic is from @JodyCarrington "You can't light yourself on fire to keep others warm" this has been a life saver ever since. #tlap
A6: My peer told me I cannot be a light in other peoples lives if my light is extinguished. If I am tired and not giving myself the love I deserve, then I cannot help others. #tlap
A7: Twitter chats are great for building those connections. Grow your #PLN! Collaboration in person is important, too, however. I find workshops and conferences are great for this! #tlap
A7 I seek the best and observe how they react and what they do! I sponge up what makes them shine, so I can take pieces of that and practice it #models#tlap
Q7: #tlap discusses "Finding a Crew", how do you connect w/others to hone your craft & engage in meaningful conversations outside of your school building?
A7 Attended #edcampnj this weekend and presented w @RichHayzler and @MichaelPortas . Was a invigorating and exciting way to spend a Sat morning out of the house! #tlap
Twitter chats are still the best. When I feel tired or bored, I get in a chat. Better yet, host a chat and you won't sleep for hours. It's like a workout #tlap
A7: Twitter chats are the best. Attended and presented at my first Edcamp this past weekend. I got to meet some awesome educators like @JayBilly2 and got to hear @burgessdave speak! The converations and connections are incredible! #tlap#edcampnj
A7: Twitter chats have been awesome for me in finding new ideas. So much out there and so many great educators. School is the only place that can rival @McDonalds billions served claim #tlap#IMMOOC#LeadLAP
A7: I’m so grateful for my incredible PLN!! I love connecting w/ them on twitter!! Also use text, Skype, & Voxer to connect w/ some! I especially 💙 FaceTime w/ @lauriesmcintosh! #tlap
Thank you all for inspiring me as a pre-service teacher. Your passion and positivity lights my world. I am so grateful for all of you and appreciate every single one of you. #tlap
I wish I had Twitter when I was starting teaching...what a gold mine you have! Way to take advantage of professional growth right at your fingertips! #tlap
A7: Twitter has been the best way to connect and collaborate with others about teaching! I love all the ideas and educators I've met. I'm very grateful for all of you! #tlap
A6: Balance can be a challenge when work is more of our purpose/passion than our job but I have to say that if you love what you do it’s a pretty awesome struggle to have. #eternallyseekingbalance#beststruggle#tlap
A6 From Dick Van Dykes autobiography, he said something along the lines of you have to have a bowl of ice cream at the end of the day to celebrate your day. #tlap
A7 Twitter is a true blessing with validation and community. I also use Pinterest a lot to discover resources from colleagues. Book clubs also rejuvenate me... #tlap
A7 Twitter chats, book studies, SnapChat EDU & #EDUSingOff on Snapchat🎤
Blogs, Voxer,
Conferences...aka running up to PLFamily members at conferences and attacking them in a ((HUG))!
#tlap
A7: Our school division has something called a Community of Practice - where teachers meet with other teachers on a topic they are passionate about. #tlap

A7: Twitter has been huge for connecting w like-minded educators. EdCamps, talking w Ts in your district not in your building who can share ideas and perspectives #tlap
A8: Not sure I can eliminate any #PLN tribe by stating one I'm most thankful for, but I am most grateful for the one I've found since joining Twitter and for the one I've built in my area. #tlap
So grateful for you!!! Things wouldn’t be the same without you! You’re an important part of my life & my Ss! Thanks for leading the way & spreading kindness in the 🌎! #tlap
A8: All of them. Each brings a different perspective and help me to be better when I need it. But I will shout out to my Canadians @ShelfieTalk and @NowakRo and of course the amazing (not Canadian but still amazing) @DrMaryHoward#tlap
A6: As a student homework and school are very time consuming. I always make sure I go on a walk with my dog. During that time I just enjoy the company of my dog and my surroundings. #tlap
A7b: GET CONNECTED (right @posickj ?) Somebody else has been where you are or has similar (or challenging) ideas. As @ToddWhitaker says, "I'm sure your project celebrating the anniversary of the sinking of Titanic was wonderful, but..." #tlap
A7: I feel so blessed to be part of a coaching team in the district. I service one building(which I love) but meet with my coaching "crew" every Friday.Without their feedback, support, and collaboration I wouldn't be servicing my other crew well at all.
#tlap
Saw this portable guitar today & wished I could play because I'd want one. Someone should get you this gift https://t.co/XNA4ON2eAW^78244844802-device^c-plaid^157475331162-sku^1372692949687@ADL4GC-adType^PLA #tlap
A8 I'm most thankful for those in my PLN who CHALLENGE my thinking. It's awesome to have people to agree with, but it's invaluable when peers you respect give you something to think about. #tlap
Grateful for my family as well for letting me live my passion and to let me live in the moment. Failure helps us grow. It's who we have with us and the path we take to get to our goals! #tlap
A8: So glad I got connected with @Owens10 in my #PLN to learn about his Men of Distinction program. If you need a positive support program for young men you need to follow him. #tlap#IMMOOC#LeadLAP#principalsinaction
A8: I'm thankful for my PLN on Twitter and this year's #LakotaEdChats. I feel much more connected to other staff and have made new relationships.
#tlap
A8 @burgessdave You were the first author that became real to me. I was like...an author can talk to you on Twitter!!!
Thank you for your strength and humbleness #tlap Grateful
A1 I found this picturethis weekend and this is how I truly feel we should treat all of our Ss and coworkers. P.S. This is the first Twitter Chat I have ever participated in. I always just watch! @specialtechie#TLAP
A8: Each person in my PLN is so special to me! No words to express how #grateful I am for all those who have so greatly impacted my EDUjourney! #tlap#xplap#oredchat
Great job tonight. I am grateful for all of you out there and all that you do every day for the students you empower and take care of. We can't do this without you #tlap
A8: Each person in my PLN is so special to me! No words to express how #grateful I am for all those who have so greatly impacted my EDUjourney! #tlap#xplap#oredchat
Thank you for a great #tlap chat tonight! Awesome job @specialtechie as moderator! I feel so energized! Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. Enjoy this grateful time with family & friends!
