The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
Hi! Kelly here. Even though I’m currently working in an academic library, I was a school librarian for 14 years and this chat is of great interest to me. #txlchat
Hello #txlchat I'm Joni, elementary librarian at Hillside Academy, #GISDLibraries. Last digital tool I used at school was Google Calendar. Last app I used at home was Instagram.
Hi! Richelle with #GISDLibraries. Super excited for tonight's #txlchat topic! The last tool I used today was @Screencastify to make a screencast about ebooks!
A1 – My last year as a HS librarian, trying to encourage Twitter use, I worked with our Digital Learning Leader to provide Twitter Lunch & Learn sessions. I also provided Twitter PD for the librarians in the district. #txlchat
Julee Murphy from Corpus. Last digital tool was Twitter of course. Get way to connect with PLN, authors and illustrators, and Librarians in the wild #txlchat
A1 We have a professional learning cadre of librarians that plan our district PD days. Both PD days offered choice in sessions. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
Taking part of our Campus Improvement Team to discuss highest needs of campus. Also, I started a staff @GoogleForEdu Classroom for #professionallearning on Ts own time #txlchat
A1 I’ve tried to provide asynchronous learning options. Use Sites and Screencastify and S’more (and more!) to allow Ss and Ts to learn a) at point of need and b) as their schedules allow. #txlchat
A2 My last two years as a HS librarian, we were implementing Chromebooks going 1:1 my last year. I was hesitant at first but came to love the way I could connect with students by being included in their Google Classrooms, dump stuff from databases straight to Drive etc… #txlchat
A1 I just started a TechTuesday Tip for teachers where I give them short vids on how to use a tech tool. This week FlipGrid. Love this tool. use screencastomatic for my short webinars. #txlchat
A2 I recently built a chatbot that does a short ref interview recommends books based on reading interests, though I haven't really implemented it yet. Otherwise I'm learning my way around the features in Destiny Discover and Collections. #txlchat
A2 I know my DLC & I are asking teachers to share their Google Classrooms w/ us so when we design lessons & activities, we can work within their current frameworks. #txlchat
A2 I was so excited today - presented on #hyperdocs back in August, and a teacher came up to me today saying she’s using her 1st one with Ss this week. Don’t give up, because some really are listening! #txlchat
A2 In early stages of planning PD with ELAR department. We are committed to getting Ts & Libs collaborating more! The day will be conference-style with keynotes & choice! #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A2: Our campus is doing a staff wide book study over "When Writing with Techology Matters" which brought about implementing @Biblionasium on our campus #txlchat
A2: The teachers at our middle school campus recently rec’d chromebooks to use with their classes. Most have a full class set; we are not a true one to one district. #txlchat

A3 Being approachable and available at point of need. Ts need to feel as though they can ask you anytime anywhere for help and you won't send them away empty handed. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A3 create something teachers can use right away, organize small group mentoring sessions, be sure to check in regularly. sometimes teachers don't let us know when they need extra support #txlchat
A3 I try to not just throw tools ast them, but collaborate with them to show them HOW the tool can be used with their curriculum & Ss. There are always new tools & tricks, but purposeful implementation is key! #txlchat
A3 Provide lots of examples, templates, and resources for all curricular areas. And be there to answer questions and walk them through when necessary. #txlchat
A3: My most recent push is to reinforce the tie-ins that our TexQuest databases have with Google classroom/drive. With arrival of new chromebooks, timing is perfect to remind them. #txlchat
My teachers love Chatterkid & feel confident on it. I am trying to show them other alternatives. ShadowPuppets, SockPuppets, @Buncee, @Flipgrid#txlchat
Q2: @ClassDojo isn’t a new tool but it is being used more widely at my school this year. I love being able to give teamwork and participation points during library classes. I wonder if teachers could customize a positive point to reflect Library learning #txlchat
A3: Using a new tool when you are collaborating on a lesson with a T is a great way to introduce new tools to Ts and Ss. Then, be available when they have Qs. #txlchat
A3 support teachers by using the digital tools first in the library...work out the learning curve for the teachers before you show them. My students then ask teachers to use those tools. #txlchat
A3: This year I share out with 5th gr Ss in a Media class and they take it back to their classrooms! Been easier than getting myself into other’s classrooms. #txlchat

A3: I use a flexible schedule and encourage teachers to sign up for times that fit their schedules. Co-teach tech application lessons -I teach tech while they push content (really both at the same time!) We've used Google docs/explore for research, sites, FlipGrid & more #txlchat
#txlchat A3 I like to learn from my students. I let teachers and students see me try and have a growth mindset. We are all afraid of failure some times.
Don't be afraid to try out new tools and even use the techspertise of your students to test out tools. My Student Tech Help page https://t.co/sgULo25AgO#txlchat
A3 I shared with one of our AP Eng Lang & Capstone (Seminar) Ts yesterday about the Google Scholar Button and new @galecengage Chrome extension for searching Opposing Viewpoints. #score#txlchat
A4 – When you network and connect with others, especially by following them on Twitter & other social media, you can see (almost in real time) what new things they are trying then try them yourself. #txlchat
A4 When WE network w/ our Ts & model that in our own #PLN then we are showing the power of connected educators & collaboration & learning. This is ultimately a win for our Ss & student achievement. #txlchat

A4: I see other perspectives. In my youth I was a pretty introverted person. Perhaps this comes with age, but now I love meeting new people and hearing new ways to do things. Meeting someone is not as much a social event for me anymore, it’s more of a learning event.
#txlchat
A2: Went 1:1 laptops in 5-12 adding Canvas LMS. Everyone learning new. Also English Ts read Book Whisperer and connecting with me more to help with literature. #txlchat
A4 Networking gets us outside our immediate spheres of influence, whether professional or regional or whatever. I love chats with campus technologists. Just like we need diverse books, we need diversity of ideas and influences on our practices. #txlchat
A4 I learn from my friends! I have confidence that if I don't have an answer, someone I know will. I have my own go-to tech support that help me out all the time! #TxLChat#futurereadylibs
A4: Networking opens the world up to new experiences and idea. It’s so helpful when someone shares their learning curve with their PLN to help them avoid pitfalls. #txlchat
A5 Been doing some reading on having a reflective teaching practice & using reflection w/Ss during instruction. Read a great book about using humor during instruction. Bc we do a lot of “one shot” instruction, I’m looking for ways to improve those instructional sessions. #txlchat
A4: I am so fortunate to go to conferences and Edcamps to learn from others - getting real world examples of tech tools in action, programming ideas (never would have tried flex sched without sessions touting it!) I love connecting with others trying new things & ideas #txlchat
A4: Networking helps me know I’m not alone. Although our corporation still has 4 librarians, we have watched ourselves get downsized almost every year. And I came from WI where my position was eliminated years ago. #txlchat
A4: For me, networking gave me the courage to make changes on my campus that were better for the Ss, such as #flexschedule and the my kinders and 1st grdrs using @GoogleForEdu I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't talked to others first. #txlchat
A5: I want to read more management material. From people management to library management with hopes to help me become a stronger librarian and better tuned in to the needs of my library team & colleagues. #txlchat
A5 I want to stretch myself by learning more about effective coaching. I also want to attend more professional learning with colleagues from other content areas like ELAR and Social Studies. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A5 I just moved from elem to HS so it's an entirely new environment for me. I'm doing what I can to find tools to support curriculum, particularly research assignments. In other words, I'm knee deep in AP English and Social Studies guides right now. #txlchat
A5 I addition to #TXLA18 ? Our district utilizes digital badges and I try to complete a few every month or two to stretch myself. Also working on Apple Teacher cert, and attempting Google Certified Educator Level 2 over spring break. #txlchat
Apparently Twitter is running very slow tonight so even though we are are 8:30, please keep on chatting. I'll archive in the morning. Thanks everyone for the stimulating convo #txlchat
A5: @CCISDIT invests in their Librarians, teachers, admin, and students by providing many tech learning opportunities such as #TechSaavySaturday#Tech2Teach and online learning modules #txlchat
A4: almost all of the ideas I get to share with my Ss and Ts are from Twitter chats! I trust my PLN to keep me in touch with the latest and greatest! #txlchat

Sorry I am late. Dinner with NEISD librarians and @areynoldsbooks. I make sure I model new technologies and am approachable if they want to try something new. #txlchat
A5: Beyond continuing conferences, Edcamps, Twitter, and book studies I hope to start presenting at some events & try podcasting & blogging to make more connections. Love sharing with campus peeps, but always looking to bring more of the larger lib/edu community to us #txlchat
