A1: That they can experience each teacher's best! All teachers have something that makes them great, their classrooms great, etc. Our learners should be reaping the benefits of that! #LeadLAP

Q1: If we, as educators, settle for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. What is an aspiration you have for the learners you serve?

A1: For students to see that their voice and work can make a difference in the world today. Not tomorrow, not 10 years from now. TODAY. Let’s build a school where we are all, as @katiemartinedu says, “obsessed” with empowering learners. #LeadLAP

A1- Wouldn't it be nice if high school students came to school for the purpose of exciting learning opportunities instead of extra-curricular events? #LeadLAP
A1: Innovation class and genius hour or passion projects come ro@mind as ways Ts are allowing choice and creating relevance. Grades comes from the process and an interview, not an exam #LeadLap
If we could all just get over these excessive compliance issues, schools would be such a better place! Sure, sometimes there are things that just need to get done. But it has been taken to such an unhealthy extreme! #LeadLAP
A2: I don't stop learning or I do look over what hadn't worked in the past and try to make it better. You can't keep teaching: "How excise taxes work" with the same worksheet/video year after year. You have to look for new ways to teach and apply it. #LeadLAP

A2- As a superintendent, I need to role model being the lead learner and ensuring that I keep in touch with teaching today. I spend a half day a week in classrooms 70% of the year. #LeadLAP
Hi! I’m Monique Boone, and I live in Houston, Texas! I was pursuing through Twitter and stumbled upon this chat! I’m a Teacher Development Specialist for Houston ISD. #LeadLap#LCInnovation
A2: For my staff I have started "twitter chats" to help them grow professionally. For my students, it is giving them opportunities for choice by integrating tech like @Flipgrid@breakoutEDU, makerspaces and #geniushour that encourage students to find their voice. #leadlap
A2: I would say that I've developed a sense of patience that I didn't have in my early days as an educator. It's particularly important now as education moves toward tech. #leadlap
A2 My practice evolved from teacher centered sage on the stage to student centered guide on the side though #flipclass efforts. Now I help others integrate technology meaningfully and with purpose. We've also done #GeniusHour & #StudentEdcamp recently too. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.

A2: I changed from years of HS to an elementary - I've done a LOT of learning about the differences and how to serve students and staff better. @ryanssiemens is the best mentor! #LeadLAP
A2: As a technology integrator, my role is changing every day! In delivering quality PD for Ts, we now offer online courses, personalized PD, book studies, and choice in sessions. It's exciting to evolve! #LeadLAP

A2 I recently started moving away independent work and starting hitting collaborative work hard. I have also started learning and teaching sketchnotes.
#leadlap
A2: One of the biggest ways is to stop believing I have to be an expert in any new tool I introduce to students.
Providing them resources and allowing them to explore, fail, and create with a new program or app has been a game-changer.
We learn together!
#LeadLAP

Like this, Kristen. Assuming greater ownership of our PD growth is essential as we seek to increase our toolkit to meet the diverse needs of our Ss #LeadLAP
A1- as a building leader I hope to set the atmosphere to positive allowing for both my teachers and students to feel as if they really to matter! #LEADlap
A1: Have to teach our kids to value/love the journey of learning foremost - ups, downs & all arounds (achievement will follow this anyway). Then instead of feeling defeated/hopeless based on current circumstances they’ll always feel hopeful about future possibilities. #LeadLap
A2. Many times it is simply staying abreast of student interests to keep content relative and engaging. When Pokémon Go became so popular, I developed history lessons that used the game. We have to constantly seek opportunities to reach all Ss, no matter their interests.#LeadLap
A2: In our school, we have tried to incorporate some personalized learning, #makerspace opportunities, and student choice through our #NEST period. It's inspiring to think that our students will have the opportunity to advocate for their interests! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation

A2: I've becokme quite adept at the gradual release of responsibility...letting students take ownership of both the classroom and their learning. We have Ss Math/Writing Experts that teach us review lessons on core concepts. #leadlap
A2: I increasingly find value in connecting learners locally and globally to learn from and with one another. Blogging has been a powerful to reflect, share and connect with others.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A2: Oh, wow! I've been teaching for 33 years! For my age-group anyway, I've seen more of a push-down for academics that is in no way, shape, or for, developmentally appropriate for my "littles." I think the pendulum is starting to swing back, though. #LeadLAP
A2. I have always believed that play is our ticket to engagement but as I've evolved, I let the Ss lead and I just watch them navigate, negotiate and fly without my constant interference and interruption. #leadlap
A2 I used @bloxelsbuilder as a language/math response option S's ❤️ it. They also love creating digitally with @Buncee and doing Lego Responses #LeadLAP
A2: By looking for the “what ifs” and welcoming that kind of dreaming. By going to kids to ask how we can do better.
When we removed class rank from transcripts, our WHY came from student voice.
That change makes the statement, “You are more than a number.”
#LeadLAP
Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A2: I am not sure if Ss would say the same, but when dealing with S behavior now, I review files first, listen second, and then address the behavior. When I was first an admin, I would rush to "deal" and didn't learn from the S and behavior. #LeadLAP
A2: If we want to change our story, we must change the words we use in our story. It's been important for me to use words that empower. All of our Ss are GENIUSes, all of our Ts & Ss are LEADERs. I use these words daily & our #TMGenius community's embraced this belief. #LeadLAP
A2: moved to a new school this year, so I'm constantly reflecting on my practice for new demographic and needs. Meeting the needs of colleagues, too! #leadlap

Thanks! I feel like I've grown so much just in the past 4-5 months! And I have a renewed energy and passion for education! Which hopefully is impacting students! #LeadLAP
A2: Ss know I am learning along side them, not the one with the answers. Allowing the Ss to push their thinking with their questions and providing feedback for their peers puts them in the drivers seat #LeadLap
A2: My practice has been constantly evolving... from flexible seats to gamification, change has been an amazing thing for my students and myself! #LeadLAP
A2: My own educational practice has evolved- I started a blog this summer to reflect on my own learning and share it out. 😊I also moved from an elem. to a MS as Assistant Principal. Every single day I learn something new from my team & from Ss 💥! #leadLAP

One thing I realized is that even though Ss use a lot of tech, they are less versed in educational/every day use applications. We've had to teach kids things such as cutting and pasting and using tools to draw lines. That being said, they've taught me Minecraft :-). #LeadLAP
A2: I moved away from teacher-led to facilitator. My class has become learners working and supporting each other. It’s not always pretty. Sometimes, it is messy, and that’s okay. #leadlap
I've challenged myself to let go of "control" in my classroom, instead creating spaces for learning and innovation where students dive in and become experts. #letitgo#leadlap
When students first come into my class, there's an adjustment period because they struggle with inquiry, making their own decisions about form + content + thinking through reading, writing + thinking process because they're waiting for me to tell them the "bottom line." #LeadLAP
A2: understanding that our Ss will need to be creators not just consumers. We must focus on providing more open ended experiences, encourage and ask big questions and provide a variety of tools to our students #leadlap
A2: Changed from panicking over a problem or obstacle to calmly seeing it as an opportunity for growth and seeing something from another perspective. Mindset matters. #leadlap
A2: project based learning has changed me forever...my students are engaged, challenged, and working on actual habits of questioning they will need in the future...PBL has also inspired me to begin incorporating ways for students to create their own problems/projects #LeadLAP
A2: Been an administrator 18 years. Over time, that role has evolved from that of a manager to that of someone who is expected to be an instructional leader. It was a significant shift that took a lot of hard work & learning that still continues. #whymyplnrocks#leadlap
A2: In my classroom, we have dedicated time to share what’s going on in our lives. The students call it “circle time.” We start with mindfulness exercises. Then we sit in a circle on the floor (no furniture), and we talk about things other than curriculum and learning. #Leadlap
A2 My educator- in particular my leadership practice- has evolved from focusing solely on supporting Ss academic growth to facilitating an environment that encourages our Ss, social, emotional, & positive leadership growth. #LeadLAP

A2: as a SPED T I foucs on how to fill holes and continue to move forward. This yr I have been working to focus more on Ss strengths moving those forward which is also filling holes, in what feels like a more natural way. #LeadLAP
YES! This has been a HUGE part of our #TMGenius story and path to greatness. It has had major impact at all levels in increasing the 4 Cs. #gafe#LeadLAP#KYGoDigital
A2 my practice has changed quite a bit from flexible seating, flipping my classroom to meet the needs of all students and most recently introducing Genius Hour and learning the process along with my Ss #LEADLap
Right! I have a student, who always goes blank when taking a test, but he is quite savvy when it comes to business. I only discovered this by chance. That needs to change. #leadlap
A1: Education has to evolve to allow kids to value/appreciate the journey of learning more than grades/standardized test scores; then instead of feeling defeated/hopeless based on current circumstances they’ll always feel hopeful about future possibilities. #LeadLap
Teacher language is critically important! I name my student groups "designers", "innovators", "tinkerers", "mathematicians", "creators", etc... But GENIUSes is new... Can't wait to try. #LeadLAP
A2: If we want to change our story, we must change the words we use in our story. It's been important for me to use words that empower. All of our Ss are GENIUSes, all of our Ts & Ss are LEADERs. I use these words daily & our #TMGenius community's embraced this belief. #LeadLAP
A2: I realize that our Ss need to be empowered & have ownership over their learning, so I've taken the same approach with Ts. Engage, inspire, & do not waste a Ts valuable time #LeadLAP
A1: What If...we created schools to be true places of collaboration where students met to continue learning that took place outside and inside of our school walls? #LCInnovation#LeadLAP
A3: Those who have walked in have said:" This is like a mix of traditional, fun, craziness and a comic con." I like to keep things moving and Ss guessing and giving them new curiosities. But my ideal, you would have to see my crazy idea. #LeadLAP
And so many students already know a huge portion of the content that they are sitting passively in class being "taught!" Seems like something we need to improve on! #LeadLAP
By supporting Ts’ passions & collaboration: PLCs, common prep periods, Pineapple Charts, juggling budget to support their PD, celebration of their work, supporting their professional dreams (may lose a few awesome Ts, but they’re following their dreams) #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
You use projects, videos, student created assessments. Have them decide how to demonstrate learning. An explanation of math solving on a whiteboard while filmed is more powerful than a worksheet. Responses to Qs on @Flipgrid is powerful. You have proof. #LeadLAP
A2. I have changed who I am. I am side by side with my students. I empower them and let them lead learning. I talk with them, listen to them. No more worksheets. I focus on creative/collaborative problem solving & authentic learning. I am supporting citizens & leaders. #LeadLAP
Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A2: I’mconstantly evolving, taking control of my own PD, engaging in pos. convos with PLN, preaching S voice and choice, #leadlap and #tlap have been game changers!#leadlap
A2: Ss need voice so we let our 3rd-5th Ss lead student-parent conferences, generate questions for T interviews, participate in T interviews, and provide feedback on school achievement & survey data. #LeadLAP
A2: I have evolved my practice by developing a stronger PLN via twitter that started 2.5 years ago, as well as, becoming a more trauma informed educator. #LEADLap
A2: I have learned to implement more student design. My design doesn't get read or followed, so why put work into what gets overlooked? My students are now creating their own scoring guides. "How do I?" makes them more conscious of adequate work. #LeadLAP
This is year 21 for me, and I do think the pendulum is swinging back. I remember diving into PBL my first year teaching (although we called it thematic units back then!) Looking forward to enhancing the JOY in learning again! #leadlap
A2: Been an administrator 18 years. Over time, that role has evolved from that of a manager to that of someone who is expected to be an instructional leader. It was a significant shift that took a lot of hard work & learning that still continues. #whymyplnrocks#leadlap
A3: Looks like a collaborative space, but has cave spaces when some kids need alone time. LOTS of books. Low lighting. Kid centred - their work on walls. Technology accessible. #LeadLAP
I have to head out early guys, I have to track through the snow to pick up some new things for my classroom and an ex-raid pokemon battle to go. I hope today to get Mewtwo. #LeadLAP
A2. As a classroom teacher my practice evolved from more of a performance artist to a curiosity guide. As a leader, my challenge is to inspire and empower that evolution in my staff. #LeadLAP
A3: A3: My ideal classrooms mirrors how we learn best. Learner centered experiences that focus on authentic inquiry and problem solving.
#LCInnovation#LeadLap
A2. I've become much more intentional on overtly practicing "soft" skills with students + providing them with feedback (not grades!) on these skills in order to help them improve. I wasn't as intentional about this earlier in my career. #LeadLAP
You use projects, videos, student created assessments. Have them decide how to demonstrate learning. An explanation of math solving on a whiteboard while filmed is more powerful than a worksheet. Responses to Qs on @Flipgrid is powerful. You have proof. #LeadLAP

Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3 An ideal classroom has students working together. At first glance it may look chaotic, but upon closer inspection the kids are working hard, having fun, and learning! #leadlap
A3- students teacher interaction with discussion and hands on activities! Students engaged and learning teachers happy to be leading instruction! #LEADlap
A2: Meaningful technology integration seems to be the ever changing platform. We are always dedicated to making it useful and about cementing content and ideas, not about screen time or shiny new objects. Passionate staff support each other in this area!! #LeadLAP
Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: Looks-active. Ss involved in their own learning. Ts facilitating. Sound-like a beehive! Feel-energy, love, and relationships between Ss and Ts & Ss. #LeadLAP
A2 - As I've become more experienced I've been able to become more learner-focused. My first question is more often "What does this student need?" and not ""What does this lesson need?" #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A2: my first years of being a principal felt as if I was taking learning to Ts. As I’ve evolved, I’ve grown in empowering Ts to find their voice and now facilitate more of the learning. How can we do the same for our Ss? #LCInnovation#LeadLAP
I use a #MasteryLearning approach in my class w/ @thegridmethod and Ss have a similar reaction at first. They struggle to be self driven learners at first- always waiting for me to dictate the next step or to just tell them how to do the work! We get there eventually! #LeadLAP
A3: A3: My ideal classrooms mirrors how we learn best. Learner centered experiences that focus on authentic inquiry and problem solving.
#LCInnovation#LeadLap
A2: I was blessed with an admin who "grew me up" in the idea that we meet students where they are by any means necessary. Those means change as our students change, so we too must change. We must know them to grow them. AND have a large toolkit to serve them. #leadlap
Q2: In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: Ss not just engaged but empowered. There would be fun, academic conversations taking place that are relevant. It would be a classroom I would want my kids (if I had any) to be in or even I myself would want to go back and experience as a student! #LeadLAP
A3: it's noisy and students are engaged and it's obvious that they know their goals and learning path! Motivational imagery and resources to help students on the walls. And the teachers guiding students not dictating the curriculum #LeadLAP#joyfulleaders
A3: There should be flexible learning spaces to accommodate different learning styles; #edtech for students to use; and consistent opportunities for student collaboration #LeadLAP
A3 Like a bunch of kindergarteners exploring their world for the first time- laughing, lots of questions/curiosity, no fear of trying new things, playing, exploring, loving learning #LeadLAP
It really has taken a lot of work. I look back at who and where I was professionally when I started ... hard to believe this is where I am. Many thanks are due to lots of folks along the way, including my PLN. They rock! #LeadLAP
A3 A lot different from my ideal classroom from 20 years ago! Noisy with discussion and collaboration. A family feel where Ss are comfortable sharing thoughts and ideas. Flexible seating. #LeadLAP
A3- Student driven. Giving up control and letting students determine how they want the classroom to look like, sound like, and feel like. Stepping back as a teacher. Leading by facilitation. #LeadLAP
A1: What if children could experience joy in learning that makes a positive impact on their lives and changes our world for the better? #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A2 I have always been interested in letting students move through content at an appropriate pace for them, but that has really kicked up in the last few years as I dive head first into a #masterylearning approach! Now, Ss are all working at the own pace and level! #leadlap
A3: My ideal classroom looks different every day depending on the tasks. Furniture needs to be versatile and easily rearranged (or moved away). It would have windows for natural light. (I currently teach in a dungeon room with block walls and no windows!) #Leadlap
A3. I want students to be in control of their learning. Teachers are there to provide the material, knowledge, and culture for success. Then, students collaboratively and actively applying the tools for success to demonstrate understanding. #LeadLap
A3 Ideal classrooms have collaborations going on, the teacher is hard to find because they are mixed in with the students, and there is excitement in the air from the learners and the teacher. #leadlap
A2. I have changed who I am. I am side by side with my students. I empower them and let them lead learning. I talk with them, listen to them. No more worksheets. I focus on creative/collaborative problem solving & authentic learning. I am supporting citizens & leaders. #LeadLAP

#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: I'm teaching in short chunks, while Ss discuss and teach together. Ss have a voice and choice in our activity, and the academic setting feels electric with #funtricity , support, and GRIT! #leadlap#yourestillcool
A3: A3: My ideal classrooms mirrors how we learn best. Learner centered experiences that focus on authentic inquiry and problem solving.
#LCInnovation#LeadLap
Classroom goal is to look, sound, and feel like a Creativity Construction Zone-- work is ongoing, collaboration is critical, materials become tools to create new ideas and solutions for the future. #leadlap
A3 Looks like: a) Student work displayed, relevant content and skill information on the walls b) Sounds like: Purposeful, engaged S conversations centered on asking and answering key questions c) Feels like: a place where S learning is the focus & support is available #LeadLAP
A2: My biggest shift over the 28 years is moving from teaching topics and content to Ss and Ts to creating a culture that celebrates learning and growth. #LeadLAP
A3: Bottom line is that kids are learning. That can take a myriad of forms. Admins should be careful not to have too many preconceived notions about what they think a classroom should look like. Teachers should have flexibility. #LeadLap
A3: Students are discussing, collaborating, & using all kinds of tools to communicate their thoughts. I love it if I can't find the Ts in the classroom because they are immersed in the learning with the Ss #LeadLAP
A3: Well, this I know. In an ideal school, when the principal walks into the room, it’s not a surprise. People don’t feel the need to be more “buttoned up.” Learning doesn’t have to get quiet and more tidy. We all learn and grow together. We all feel safe. #leadlap
I love how the shift in education is really becoming more and more about the guide on the side. Our job is no longer to deliver content! Our job is to help students access, understand, and make USE of the content they discover! #LeadLAP
A2. As a classroom teacher my practice evolved from more of a performance artist to a curiosity guide. As a leader, my challenge is to inspire and empower that evolution in my staff. #LeadLAP
A3 Can we all have one ideal classroom? Some ideas may include: flexible, adaptable, bright, noisy, student-driven, various tech, teacher-supported, passionate, full of heart, difference makers, smiles, fun, laughter, authentic, cultivating leaders/innovators. #LeadLAP
A3: Walls down... no barriers! Not even sure I would call it a classroom?! Ss smiling non stop and never noticing the clock. When buses are called they beg to stay! TRUE HAPPINESS! Bliss! Growth! #LeadLAP#Nan3EDU
A3: Students as problem finders not just problem solvers.. project based learning, makerspaces. Students excited because the learning has personal meaning and connects them to the world #LeadLAP
A3: my ideal class sounds noisy because students are helping each other learn...students are not concerned with finishing for a grade, but concerned with actually understanding #LeadLAP
It is hard, but I've really come to appreciate the fear Ts have toward change and failure. They want to be valued and trusted by their peers and students. If we want Ts to change, we have to provide them with the same sense of safety and support we want them to give Ss. #LeadLAP
A3: A classroom where students create the space, share their thoughts and ideas, embrace failure and risk-taking, focus on growth, where a culture of excellence has been established and positive relationships flourish. Student focused thinking and learning. #leadlap#culturize
A2: My latest blog post explains many shifts that I have made in my practice over the past few years as I’ve embraced an Innovative Mindset.
Innovating Inside of the Box. https://t.co/8kt9Wbqlq0…
#leadlap
A2: I began teaching with mainly Direct Instruction. Now, I teach in small groups, use tech to leverage my time and even communicate with students on weekends and when I’m on a different campus through email! @katiemartinedu#LeadLAP#LCinnovation
Thanks! You and the folks I’ve met through you have been a big part of that transformation, and I’ll always be thankful for you and them. Proud to fly my PIRATE flag! #LeadLAP
A2 in my funding request for next year, I shared a mental health services initiative that came from a teen team’s PBL advocacy and a solar panel project kids initiated that has reduced 6% of electrical costs #voiceagencyinfluence#LeadLAP
A3: My ideal classroom is one that is flexible, comfortable, and inviting. It's a place where all learners can take risks and make mistakes because that's when true learning can happen. #LeadLAP
A3: The ideal classroom is the four Cs. With that you have this "Wall Street" environment of business like learning. The time slips away, and students leave with their educational pockets full. #LeadLAP
A3: the ideal classroom is void of obstacles that would hold students back. It’s language rich with opportunities to meet the needs of individuals learners while embedding collaborative opportunities to learn with the world. #LCInnovation#LeadLAP
I mean, don't we as adults sometimes feel this way in professional development, which is usually not inquiry based or differentiated? We're passively being "taught" when we could be engaged in learning that engages us? Why do we mirror this system with students? #LeadLAP
I think a question you have to start with is what are you assessing? If a worksheet can measure it people can probably google it which means no-one will pay them to do it. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
This is different for all learners. When I walk into a classroom where learning is happening & Ss are invested, it’s like feeling a spark. The energy is amazing, whether they’re collaborating or working individually. Love that feeling #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
It is hard, but I've really come to appreciate the fear Ts have toward change and failure. They want to be valued and trusted by their peers and students. If we want Ts to change, we have to provide them with the same sense of safety and support we want them to give Ss. #LeadLAP
A3: Sounds of students collaborating. Places for students to show visual thinking. Areas to create. Feels inviting and comfortable to risk forward and #failforward. A place where it is hard to spot the teacher because students are the focus. #leadlap
A3 It doesn't look the same every day. Just like exercising, to get the best results you need some muscle confusion. Not that we want confused Ss, but we want to keep them wanting more, asking great Q's and ultimately empowered. Room feels welcoming and can get noisey. #LeadLAP
A few Ts/educators have responded, I want to see it, I like to lurk around schs and see what works, I haven't done it in like ten years or so now. #LeadLap
I just talked about this yesterday! What about a google form or sheet where you are walking around as they work on desktops or whiteboard. Or with manipulative. Or just old school with a chart. #LEADlap
A3: ideal classroom has a buzz with Ss engaged collaboratively creating and sharing with each other. The T and furniture all contribute to collaboration and Ss work is displayed all over #leadlap
A3: The ideal classroom has a LOW CLASS SIZE! It has seating opportunities for students, ie, flexible, fun, movement encouraging and useful. Technology is accessible and encouraged. Lots of St work and ownership by EVERYONE is EVERYWHERE!! #LeadLAP
A3 Ideal Classroom: an environment that embodies flexibility and individual needs! Couches, pillows on the floor, tables for students who need them. A teacher that spends no more than a couple minutes talking to everyone at once! Ss huddled together exploring learning! #leadlap
Yes! I heard a podcast where someone said this: Our job isn't to cover the content, it's to get students to UNcover it. (or like what you said... DIScover it!) #LeadLAP
A3: In an ideal class, you’d hear Ss enthusiastically talking about what they’re learning (perhaps designing/creating together), you’d feel welcome & integral to the learning community. More S voice than T- the person talking is doing the learning! 👏🏼#leadLAP
A3: My ideal classroom is constantly changing depending on where our adventure takes us! From time machines to the middle ages, the more theatrics the better! #LeadLAP
A3: looks, sounds, and feels like forward motion. Ebbing and flowing based off the needs of the Ss. Movement, quiet, boisterous purposeful interactions, positive, free open to be and do. #LeadLAP
I love the ideas, I'm a P though, I just poke around for alternative learning for children, they're so tech attached, we'll lose them if we don't change. #LeadLAP
I just talked about this yesterday! What about a google form or sheet where you are walking around as they work on desktops or whiteboard. Or with manipulative. Or just old school with a chart. #LEADlap
A3: Ss are immersed and empowered! There is enthusiasm, energy, excitement, fun, and laughter. Ss are collaborating, critically thinking, and creating! They are curious learners in a room filled with joy. #leadlap
A2: We are coaches. We teach, we guide, we correct by making sure the students understand the process, we cheer, we have the crucial conversations, we confer, we get in the learning, we step out and let them try, we ask why, and we build on strengths. #LEADLap#LCInnovation
A4: I would stop collecting "teacher stuff". Every year I would like to have new student work up! I would stop worrying about having a perfect plan and just go where the kids take me! #LeadLAP
A3: My ideal room is noisy w/ on task chatter and flexible seating with learning spaces designed for specific targets. Ss have the skills to time manage and self-regulate. Many design amazing spaces, but are we prepared to teach the skills required to utilize the space? #leadlap
A2: my practice evolves every year as every group of kids I have taught show me what they need. This year my students have shown me that having flexible seating, has actually improved their social and academic skills as valuable members of our community #leadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: My ideal classroom:
Looks like students working at their own level, engaged in learning
Sounds like talking about what they are learning
Feels like a place you want to be in your free time.
It is not the place I am yet, so I have work to do. #LeadLAP
I mean, don't we as adults sometimes feel this way in professional development, which is usually not inquiry based or differentiated? We're passively being "taught" when we could be engaged in learning that engages us? Why do we mirror this system with students? #LeadLAP
Our teachers started leadership journals with kids and conference with them every few weeks on their growth and next steps - academic, social, and personal. Students reflect each week too! #LeadLAP#joyfulleader#LearnLAP
So many options! Ss can record their learning using @Seesaw@Flipgrid@Padlet or Google Classroom. If no/low tech, have Ss fold paper into fourths and work with partners to take notes/share learning. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
In reply to
@katiemartinedu, @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, @padlet
A3: The ideal classroom isn't a classroom; it is an environment where learning occurs. One day it's a room, the next day it's a museum, another day it's a garden. Walls are so overrated. #leadlap
Amazing question Katie! Ts are unleashed when they can let go of content memorization as the measure of success. We must remove the fear to jump into that new world! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: Students engaged and working alongside each other. A rich atmosphere of literacy permeates the room. Each student has a plan specific to them for college or career success. #LeadLAP
A3: I like to walk in a classroom and see students working on different types of projects tied to a common theme. Small group collaboration and choices for crossing the finish line of the lesson. I’m always looking for growth. #LeadLap
A2: Years ago completing my doctorate I was advised not to promote telling students that we love them; needless to say I pride myself on leading an entourage of adults who live love everyday with me/our thousands of kids who reciprocate it/thrive as a result! #LoveWorks#LeadLAP
Mandated PD so often makes us forget that we should want to become more developed professionally. There is a huge difference in appreciation, involvement, and impact between PD I'm given and PD I seek out #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3 My ideal class is an inside/outside mix with lots of light. Flexible, welcoming seating. Inviting colors. Areas for all types of work: solo, pair, group, performance. #LeadLAP
A3: This may sound odd, but we all want them learning. I want more than that. My ideal classroom has been and will allays be a place where we are truly a family. #LEADlap
A4. Sometimes it’s hard enough to personally, and have others, move past the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset. Sometimes it’s best to leave outdated instructional practices, assessment techniques, and even policies in the past. Let’s move forward together. #LeadLap
#LeadLAP Love the idea of being a Curiosity Guide! Feel like I need to make a new Name Badge... @lacrossedesign students: How can we advisors become curiosity guides in your learning?
A2. As a classroom teacher my practice evolved from more of a performance artist to a curiosity guide. As a leader, my challenge is to inspire and empower that evolution in my staff. #LeadLAP
A4: All the little tedious task that occur in the classroom that you do can be eliminated. Allow the students to complete those tasks for you in the classroom. This empowers them to take more ownership in the classroom and practice responsibility. #LEADLap
A3: Thinking about holding film class in the library for the rest of the year. Lot more conducive to collaboration w/ TV's to hook up to and supports the equipment we need. #LeadLAP
Absolutely! We often get bogged down in the minutia of the deadlines/textbooks/initiatives & the simple fact is that we just need to teach Ss how to think. If a S knows how to approach an unknown task, they can figure it out. Worksheets won't prepare them for that! #LeadLAP
Thanks Brenda - when we turn kids loose they generate amazing social entrepreneurial thinking and doing - any kid, any demographic, any age - and literacy, math thinking, inquiry, communication grow #leadlap
A4b:
Please stop:
-Focusing on a test
-Believing that SEL is not a key component to education
-Refusing to change the same lesson you have been doing for the last upteen years.
#LeadLAP
A4: All the little tedious task that occur in the classroom that you do can be eliminated. Allow the students to complete those tasks for you in the classroom. This empowers them to take more ownership in the classroom and practice responsibility. #LEADLap
A4- Sometimes I feel like it’s all about adding programs, but ultimately, the biggest difference is made through connection. Students need me and I can’t do that by sitting in my office creating programs! #LeadLAP
Now we just need to get the rest of the education community on board with those ideas! Get rid of those textbooks and daily preplanned lessons. Time to explore learning and teach them how to think! #LeadLAP#Ditchbook
A4 Could definitely STOP giving students tasks that don’t relate to reality. They don’t care how many minutes it will take Bob to get to Dallas! #MakeitReal#LEADlap
A4 subtracting has been a challenge for me but something I have had to think a lot about. I kept adding and adding and became overwhelmed. I think focusing on engaged meaningful learning and lettting go of constantly testing my Ss has been huge. #LeadLap
A3. In my ideal classroom, students are empowered to make decisions about their learning + how to make their thinking visible. This sometimes mean learning won't be linear, but that's okay. Student voice is the centerpiece, which can be messy, loud + FUN. #LeadLAP
A2: I am a totally diff T than I was! Authentic inquiry drives me. I kidwatch, pose ?s, respond to their thoughts & ideas all while knowing where we must go curricular-wise. Even the physical space reflects my changing beliefs about how we all learn best. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: Stop expecting specific outcomes without understanding the "WHY". Sometimes St ach data can tell a story, sometimes it is about people and relationships. The best of us can be successful in each area and bring those a long who struggle in one or the other. #LeadLAP
A4: If I went back to the classroom, other than copying articles for interactive reading and socratic seminar, I would break up with my BF Ricoh Copy Suave. No more photo copies! Let Ss own and create. #LeadLAP
A4: STOP worrying about the "not me's"...things outside of my control. STOP accepting the worksheet sets colleagues offer as "teaching". STOP lowering expectations for Ss or tenured Ts. #leadlap
A4: Stop giving tasks that are low level learning. Stop the worksheets. Stop the "projects" where students aren't analyzing information to create. Stop busy work. Stop timed tests that crush kids. I can go on... #leadlap
A4 Stop deciding how the whole semester will look from start to finish. Get to know students first, allow for differentiation. Allow for personalization. Focus on competencies/skills not content. I will diminish my control to further empower students. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
ABSOLUTELY! If we hate to learn that way, how on earth do we expect engaged students if the way we teach them is as dreadfully boring as most PD we are a part of? #LeadLAP
I mean, don't we as adults sometimes feel this way in professional development, which is usually not inquiry based or differentiated? We're passively being "taught" when we could be engaged in learning that engages us? Why do we mirror this system with students? #LeadLAP
Good question - I’ve been trying to remember early twitter where everyone talked with each other - not just RT or posting resources and ideas - discipline of interaction and engagement #leadlap
A4: Work that is for the adults instead of the students. I spend a lot of time thinking on how my district's policies and procedures add value to learning, instead of check a box. Goes back to a system designed to be student 1st. #leadLAP
Engaged students do “homework” in quest of knowledge not reinforcing algorithms or and memoization. Working on a meaningful learning quest lets the students go deep. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
There is ample research that shows that homework does not improve student learning (especially in elementary)...
If we want students to learn, we need to put them as close as possible to the expert...that's the teacher!
#leadLAP
A4: I like that the clarifier is “could” and not wish. I could cut out more lessons focused on math topics that are useless and focus more on projects. #LeadLAP
Q4: I've stopped making scoring guides. The Ss are making their own now. I've stopped going with a set plan. I make it flexible. I NEVER rely on one "I can" statement. Why would I limit everyday? That's ridiculous. #LeadLAP
A4: Ohhh my, this one is tough. I need to stop saying "yes" every time a request comes my way... spreading yourself too thin will eventually lead to breakage! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: That’s a great question. There’s a lot I would love to stop doing. Biggest is not delegating requests from DO that someone else can handle. Just because I’m asked for it doesn’t mean someone else can’t do it. #leadlap
Ts need to know that a) when we teach to Ss passions/interests, more learning happens & b) we will never cover the entire curriculum. So take what is essential, innovate, integrate, collaborate & breathe! #LEADLap#LCInnovation 1 of 2!
A4. I would stop testing that requires students to memorize facts and dates just long enough to pass the test. I want to give a meaningful answer to “why are we learning this?” #LeadLAP
A4: We could stop calling our Ss low or high & instead address them by their individual needs. When Ss are failing, we have GOT to reflect on our own practices: what are we doing to support them in making sure they’ve learned🤨? That is on us! #leadLAP
Yes. One of the most important jobs of a school leader is to get obstacles out of the way and create the conditions for teachers to do amazing work. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A3: Authentic Learning, connected opportunities, hands on, student led learning, relevant coursework driven by Best teaching practices, not state mandates. #LEADLap#LCInnovation
A4 Stop spending time worrying about things that are out of your circle of influence. Excuses take time, too. Stop the excuses and just do it! #leadlap
A3: students are working together to solve problems and creating projects, speaking to each other with repsect, and listening to each others ideas and opinions, students feel accepted, cared for, and safe. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4 There is nothing better than cleaning house! I have worked hard to reduce my stand and deliver methods. I am also reducing my reliance on paper and I have officially ditched homework! #leadlap
A4 Email. Ok, maybe not abort completely but less of this. Also, I could spend less time reading and more time writing. Not really a subtraction but a trade! #LeadLAP
A4: Great question... hmm... I could stop pressuring myself to have all the answers. I DON'T know it all! And that's okay! I work with great people who have solutions! #LeadLAP
A4: Ohhh my, this one is tough. I need to stop saying "yes" every time a request comes my way... spreading yourself too thin will eventually lead to breakage! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
STOP...
-- forcing students into a box
-- worrying about what other teachers think of my classroom
-- saying "just hold on one more minute" because students are done
-- engaging in negative conversations about school
#leadlap
There is ample research that shows that homework does not improve student learning (especially in elementary)...
If we want students to learn, we need to put them as close as possible to the expert...that's the teacher!
#leadLAP
A3: My ideal classroom? Everything leads to something real. The purpose of learning isn't just to learn. We don't have posters telling us how this could be useful. We actually do the things on those posters. #LEADlap#LCInnovation
A4: I need to stop worrying about the little things that I can't control & focus my efforts on moving forward with all the positive things we have on our school campus #LeadLAP
A4: Lets stop reinforcing bad practices by saying it’s “preparing kids for [insert next thing.]”
We have more control than we think. Let’s do the work that we know is right. #LeadLAP
A4. I would stop testing that requires students to memorize facts and dates just long enough to pass the test. I want to give a meaningful answer to “why are we learning this?” #LeadLAP
Thanks, Shelley! I was really nervous making a complete overhaul of our computer lab, but WOW! Life changing! It’s been amazing to see the JOY abound! #LeadLAP
In ELA, I'm constantly reminding people we don't teach books, we teach students + we teach skills. We're a contentless content area, which is so exciting! We can be interdisciplinary, we can be inquiry + project-based, we can be skills-focused every hour of every day! #LeadLAP
A4: I need to stop trying to do everything. I get so excited about trying new things, that sometimes I do too much and make things to complicated for myself. #leadlap
Exactly!!! I barely use the math journal bc I can create relevant experiences that require the same skill without a worksheet that most often uses a name they can’t even pronounce!!! #leadlap#Nan3EDU
A4: take away specific minutes on IEP's. I'd like to be able to more naturally interact with Ss in their classroom based off their need giving them time to interact in the moment and cone back to check. Overall I feel the "time" would come out the same. #LeadLAP
A4: Having a strong focus and clarity about your most important work helps you see more clearly what can be eliminated. Ask yourself... Is this helping or getting in the way? #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: Ohhh my, this one is tough. I need to stop saying "yes" every time a request comes my way... spreading yourself too thin will eventually lead to breakage! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: I think that innovation requires me to stop expecting success in a certain timeframe. Ts and Ss learn at their own pace and success for each individual looks different. #leadlap
A4: I could also stop being so disappointed when other Ts don’t have the kind of empathy for my Ss that I wished they had. It just makes me sad. Instead, I could share more of my Ss’ stories. #LeadLAP
A5: Project-based learning can create opportunities between teachers & students from different classes to collaborate and learn from each other. #LeadLAP
We got rid of homework this year (excluding projects, reading at night, etc) our teachers are getting more done, students are more engaged/enjoy coming to school, parents say they have a better relationship with their child about their learning #leadlap#JoyfulLeaders
A5: A great entry point is getting into classrooms to look for examples of best practices and innovation to share. Take pictures and celebrate.
#LeadLap#LCInnovation
A4: Stop centering next steps on feedback from the teacher. Direct Ss to each other & their community for authentic feedback in their learning process #LeadLAP
Last fall, we brought paper plates to faculty mtg & asked Ts to write down everything that was on their plates. We took the plates, organized by teams & reflected as an admin team what we could subtract (anything that didn't align w our vision.) Powerful activity for us. #LeadLAP
A5: stop grading everything and focus more on a standards based grading approach...simply report whether a student is proficient in the concept or not...so much more time could be spent focusing on actual students #LeadLAP
2/2 Spend more time at staff meetings allowing for collaboration & work within PLCs rather than talking at Ts the entire time. Send the mundane out via email (or whatever form you wish)! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: I like to call this “selectively abandoning.” Stop giving work that doesn’t lead to learning and growth, stop taking up every assignment/practice, stop insisting on seating charts, stop requiring students take notes or maintain notebooks according to a set method. #LeadLAP
A5: Best part of being admin - I get to see everyone teach all the time! SO inspiring! I need to help my staff get the opportunity to do this too! #LeadLAP
A5: A great entry point is getting into classrooms to look for examples of best practices and innovation to share. Take pictures and celebrate.
#LeadLap#LCInnovation
We got rid of homework this year (excluding projects, reading at night, etc) our teachers are getting more done, students are more engaged/enjoy coming to school, parents say they have a better relationship with their child about their learning #leadlap#JoyfulLeaders
A5-Invite teachers, parents, students, administrators, and counselors into the classroom. Be open to feedback. Use Twitter to give others the opportunity to see the magic occurring in classrooms! #LeadLAP
A4: stop correcting every piece of practice work. Have students take ownership of checking their progress & conferring w them rather than correcting #leadlap
You could stop doing the "Sunday night scramble" to find lesson materials by using the new, free, EXCELLENT #OER curricula!
@OpenUpResources is pioneering tremendous innovation in this space. Check out the news:
https://t.co/SADnAm3k6c#LeadLAP#NCE18#IMMOOC
A5. As an administrator, I’m lucky in that I see teachers teach all the time. I’m always learning. I scheduled peer observations for my Ts for these growth purposes. Ts observing and discussing instruction with one another is powerful. #LeadLap
A5: I strive to observe others and have them observe me. As teachers, we have a shared goal of being the best that we can be for our Ss. The first step towards that is open, honest feedback! We can invite others to observe us first; foster a culture of collaboration! #LeadLAP
Thank you for sharing, @tishrich. I am tempted to move into robotics right now, but am so hesitant because I have many new things on my plate (3D printing and VR). I want my students to have access to these things, but need to focus my energy. #LeadLAP- #oneatatime
A4: What a good question! We need to have honest and challenging conversations like: Why do all students have to learn the same thing at the same time? Why don't students' interests impact what we do? How can we make learning meaningful? Are we relevant? #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
I have heard elementary teachers say I am preparing kids for Jr. High where they prepare kids for High school where they prepare kids for college…. As if there is no change in development between 8 and 18. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A5: in doing the lab classroom model have been able to see teaching recently. We have to use social media and technology to assist us in opening our classrooms daily #leadlap
A5: as a ldr I want to be in classrooms daily, but once a month I dedicate a day to #NoOfficeDay. I spend it w/ team of Ts & a grade level of Ss. It’s a humbling day & a learning day for me, without a doubt! Check it out! https://t.co/nAsVyQPyEZ#leadlap#LCInnovation
The sad thing is how so many ppl use this argument without knowing really what our Ss need. How many ppl have talked to business owners or startups to see what skills they value? #leadlap
A5 A classroom of Ss? A long time. I am working on posting #observeme outside my classroom door as soon as Benchmark testing is over. Starting small. #LeadLAP
I think this is a decision that school administrators can make, if the have autonomy. For teachers that don't, it is all about video and PLN. Nothing says the observations need to be real-time or place-based. #LeadLAP
Hey @andreakornowski One thing I try to be sure that any time we meet as a staff it is never something that could be in an email. I also work hard to develop systems of organization/communication to make life easier. Another..PD that is what we need based on feedback. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A5. I am constantly in classrooms as a literacy coach but I do jump more frequently into better classrooms. We need to make it a priority for all teachers to have time and feel safe about classroom visits.
A4: It reminds me of the law of trade-offs. Ask yourself this question: « Will this bring me closer to my objective? » If yes, then do it. If the A’s wee is no, then drop it. #LeadLAP
A5: Having a Pineapple Chart or "Observe Me" sign outside your door lets others know you are welcome for observation. Share lots of pics and blog posts about your lessons, too! Here's mine about our Olympics Makerspace: https://t.co/9zKtFj6m2D#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A5: This is when I go to the great @markbarnes19 and @cultofpedagogy and introduce the PINEAPPLE CHART!
A great way to get teachers on your site to see the awesomeness of their colleagues!
#LeadLAP
A5: I need to schedule time during my planning to observe someone. I always want to, but other things seem more urgent and get my attention. If I make it a priority and schedule it, then I'll be more likely to do it! #LeadLAP
A4: Strategic abandonment is very difficult but is a tool that we must constantly consider in this ever changing, fast paced world that we are preparing our Ss to encounter #leadlap
A4: I like to call this “selectively abandoning.” Stop giving work that doesn’t lead to learning and growth, stop taking up every assignment/practice, stop insisting on seating charts, stop requiring students take notes or maintain notebooks according to a set method. #LeadLAP
A1:
-What if this hater of books could really be turned onto reading?
-What if this teen could finally break through his/her anger or sadness?
-What if this teen could finally begin to love who he/she is?
-What if I let kids be the experts?
#leadlap
Q1: If we, as educators, settle for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. What is an aspiration you have for the learners you serve?
#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A5: Pineapple charts would be a great idea. We're also going to do a giant BINGO game and one of the "spaces" is, "I watched a teacher deliver a lesson today!" We do a weekly newsletter with pictures of great things happening in classrooms with captions.
#LeadLAP
Gotta run early #LeadLAP crew. Thanks for all the great ideas and some weekend inspiration to take into the week ahead. Looking forward to #IMMOOC 4 and checking out #LCInnovation. Have a great Saturday!
A5: We started instructional rounds this year and the teachers really enjoyed the interaction with their colleagues. As an admin I have long said observing is my fav part of my job. I encourage teachers to do this whenever they can #LeadLAP
Love this thought! Empower students with more freedom to learn like we do as adults - choice of topic, conversations with trusted peers etc. #authenticlearning#LeadLAP
A4. The dozens + dozens of other demands outside of the classroom need to be subtracted. I'm getting better at it. I'm a teacher, so the students in my classroom are first + foremost. The relationships we have + our important work is top priority. #LeadLAP
Q4: The best way to make learning public is for administrators to model openness and risk-taking, and celebrate failure along with success when Ts try new things. Ts need to feel that they are supported in order to be brave.
#LeadLap#LCInnovation
I recently re-conceptualized the differences between less "abled" and slower processors. In many contexts, I'm a slower processor! I need time to think, which can frustrate others who speed ahead while I'm coming up with something better 😁! #leadLAP
A4: We need to force ourselves not to perseverate on negativity/negative energy; while it can be offensive, hurtful, and even stimulating mentally at times, it is an anchor and one to which our kids should never be subjected. #LeadLAP#JoyfulLeaders
A5: I love this question. In our district, elementary and secondary start and end at different times, and yet, we’ve never invited them to visit one another, if interested.
We could learn so much from our elementary colleagues! #LeadLAP
A5b: getting teachers into classrooms requires trust and mutual respect. A culture that wants to learn together absent of negative criticism and full of questions that raise our collective teacher efficacy. What systems are in place to make this happen? #LCInnovation#LeadLAP
A5: I wish there was more time for this as a classroom teacher. There are such amazing things going on in our school that we don't always get to see! #LeadLAP
A5: With the support of my #4OCF Voxer group, I actually emailed my staff and have been visiting classes and tweeting the amazing things that are happening at our school using the school hashtag I created! #LeadLAP
A5: We’ve started challenging teachers to share a specific strategy using our hashtag #ownyourimpact each week. Quick way to get a glimpse into the walls of another classroom when time doesn’t allow for it. #LeadLAP
A5: Last week I saw an amazing lesson by our #smedfordhs American Studies teacher, Jon Barry. He held a press conference where Ss role played people in American history. The discussion was powerful and everyone was immersed! Relevant learning in action! #leadlap
A5: As VP I spend a lot of time in classrooms. Love the chance to watch learning in action. Working to find more collaboration time for teachers #LeadLAP
A5: Learning Walks and #ObserveMe are a great way for teachers to get in classrooms to learn from their peers. Leaders should cover classes so that teachers can observe. #LeadLAP
We got rid of homework this year (excluding projects, reading at night, etc) our teachers are getting more done, students are more engaged/enjoy coming to school, parents say they have a better relationship with their child about their learning #leadlap#JoyfulLeaders
A5 Tweeting about great things happening in your class can start a conversation in your school and outside. We sometimes have kind of an open house where certain teachers are sharing something and kids and T's are on tour, like a Marketplace #LeadLAP
Hey @andreakornowski One thing I try to be sure that any time we meet as a staff it is never something that could be in an email. I also work hard to develop systems of organization/communication to make life easier. Another..PD that is what we need based on feedback. #LeadLAP
A5: We’ve implemented #PineappleChart@TigerTownCHS#LeadLAP Love how it has opened up classrooms that may have never been observed by others! Amazing teaching and learning going on!
A5: We use #pineapplechart in our school. Ts send out emails to staff to let them know of strategies they are trying. Admin provide coverage so they can watch each other. Admin give out pineapple awards to Ts each month for those taking risks in the classroom. #leadlap
We started a sharing wall of pics & other artifacts in our staff room for Ts to share a glimpse into their classrooms. We don’t have a lot of Ts on twitter so this is a strategy to share & it opens up invitations between Ts for classroom visits #LeadLAP
A5 I have participated in virtual collaborations where I can see amazingness in action. I observe classes often. I want my class to be open to whomever, whenever. No appointment. We need to be more open. The successes, the learning, the struggle. Be authentic. #LeadLAP
A5: This is so important and neccessary. T's need to see what is going on in their buildings, district and in their field. Make time for them that is focused and meaningful. We are not there yet, but need to be. #LeadLAP
A5 I often walk into my grade partners room or vice versa because there is that level of trust I do wish there was more of that because I feel like I can learn so much from my colleagues! #LeadLAP
A5: I tell the Ps of my Ss that they can drop in any time. I have no secrets! One day, a dad spent the entire morning with his son. I just kept on doing what I would normally have done. At the end of the morning, he said, "I don't know how you do it." #LeadLAP
A5: Without even breaking down the walls we make learning public. Open your eyes and let the walls speak to you. I love to walk around the school before or after regular class time and see what everyone is doing. People’s greatest work is normally posted on a wall. #LEADLap
A5: Learning Labs!!!!! Or teachers see each other teach! We are getting an @goswivl for next year to increase collaboration too! #LeadLAP#JoyfulLeaders#LearnLAP
How do we create a culture where teachers don't worry about other educators entering their classroom? Everyone from first year to veterans could learn by breaking down walls! #LeadLAP
A5: A great entry point is getting into classrooms to look for examples of best practices and innovation to share. Take pictures and celebrate.
#LeadLap#LCInnovation
1. Started up #PineappleCharts this year. Needs some tweaking but it’s worth it. 2. Collaborate with other Admin to open up doors for Ts to learn more about what they’re interested in. Ex. STEAM Centres, #OLM Ts come back pumped! #LEADLap#LCInnovation
A5: I am lucky to have this opportunity in my role. I have been trying to help create culture and opps for others to do this. People say they want it, but when offered, no takers. Our admins offer to cover classes, they report no one does it. #leadlap
A3: One of my fav interview ?s for new Ts! My room is full of S child-stapled bks, projects in process, goggles & vials, stacks of real bks that kids beg to read. Workshops & an atelier. Light table, Reggio chandeliers, chimes & a constant hum. The Real Work of Children #LeadLAP
A5: Last week's visit to @FUESDSchools was enlightening. Bkessed for the opportunity to see @WkerrED and @JKniseley1 amazing school sites in action! Super @supsingh is a ball of energy! A bit of time can go a long way. #leadlap
You are not alone in this. I think we need to be more cognizant and realistic of how/when we try things. Set goals for tomorrow, Monday, Next Semester, Next year, Someday. #LeadLAP
I spent an hour in a company whose whole purpose is helping startups. They have a horizontal management. It’s an open space with everyone collaborating. From some Ts’s viewpoints, it would seem chaotic, but their partners are Google and Facebook. #leadlap
A5- As an administrator I see teachers teach on a daily basis and we have started instructional rounds back up at our school so that our teachers can go observe each other and this has been beneficial! #LeadLAP
A5. I have the honour and ability to watch others teach daily. To support others, we offer to teach their class, take their class outside so the classroom walls can start to break down #LeadLAP
A5: As an admin, I see lots of different Ts but I also have worked to create systems to have Ts observe each other and give each other feedback. I am also scheduled to visit my second campus outside my district to see other admins lead PLCs to improve my practice. #LeadLAP
A4. Also, to quote @MileyCyrus, "Forget the haters because somebody loves you. If you're a teacher leader who has a different pedagogy + practice + you're executing it successfully, be prepared for some blowback. It doesn't mean you're wrong, quite the opposite! #LeadLAP
A5 As a parent, I love sitting in on teachers classes. I’ve found that they’re anxious to share what they’re doing. My 14 yr old and I drove 5 hrs to watch a twitter friend teach. We were not disappointed.#leadlap
I fight this battle all the time. I keep hearing that my beliefs about homework are not preparing kids for middle school. That’s not my role. My goal is to help Ss develop a love of learning and hopefully ignite their curiosity about the world. #LeadLAP
A4: Lets stop reinforcing bad practices by saying it’s “preparing kids for [insert next thing.]”
We have more control than we think. Let’s do the work that we know is right. #LeadLAP
Q5: Yesterday! On my planning time, I like to go visit classrooms. Sometimes, I will chime in with a working peer and help out. At the junior high level, we should know what each other is teaching, so we can help out on our end. #LeadLAP
A6: I had a great conversation w/ a new teacher about using more open ended questions. Let the kids guide her and not feel pressured to push them to the answers quickly. #LeadLAP
A5: My admin team is going to start visiting classrooms together with a teacher from a different grade/subject area. The conversation afterwards will not be about the teacher or the students, but about the teaching and the learning. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A5: It is imperative that school leaders foster cultures of collaboration in their buildings. I have covered teachers’ classes for them to go see what a colleague is doing... even if for just a few minutes. There are some brilliant experts... just down the hall. #leadlap
A5: As an admin, I see lots of different Ts but I also have worked to create systems to have Ts observe each other and give each other feedback. I am also scheduled to visit my second campus outside my district to see other admins lead PLCs to improve my practice. #LeadLAP
A5: I gave up going on a field trip so I could stay back and observe everyone else teach math...basically I switched roles with the title teacher for a day #LeadLAP
I took a multi-pronged approach:
- research to back it up
- blog posts from others
- worked with a few like-minded teachers to show the impact
- shared the personal stories from families upset about homework struggles.
#LeadLAP
A5 I get the opportunity to work with a lot of Ts in my job! As a gifted intervention specialist, I spend half my time working directly with Ss, and half my time collaborating with Ts and being in their classrooms. I love it! I also LOVE to have visitors in my classroom! #leadlap
A2: We collaborate on recalling basic, memorized facts and do lots of quick Googles of stuff that matters less than huger problems that need solving or debating. (Move more quickly through the who/what/where kinds of bits of history and invest time in more of the whys) #leadlap
A5: I went to a PE class and watched S’s participate in indoor curling, so much fun, love seeing S’s engaged, encouraging each other. Trying to get out of office more often tho, work in progress! #LeadLAP
A5: Part of my job as a #Sped teacher is co-teaching, so I always get to see other ppl teach. I’ve grown by watching the best and the worst. I wish more ppl could have this opportunity. #leadlap
A5: Our business teacher, @converse_rosie invited local business leaders in and held a Shark Tank where Ss pitched their products! An authentic audience makes learning relevant and meaningful! #leadlap
A6: From an IC perspective and if I approach this question as the Ts being the learners, then I empower them through intentional coaching conversations and reflective questions, rather than just saying, "Here's the problem. Here's how you fix it." #LeadLAP
A5: I love when I can peek into other's classrooms on hall duty. Also Twitter and Instagram provide quick glimpses into others' classrooms and the sharing of ideas is invaluable! #leadlap
So sorry! Trying to jump on so super late! A5 My colleague and I are in the process of creating a pineapple corner and are pumped to put it into action and of course plan to put ourselves out there as soon as we can to hopefully inspire others:) #LeadLAP
I haven't used those for that particular idea. I have approached some people above me with the idea. Hasn't happened, but I would love to see it in the works. #leadlap
A5. As an Admin, it happens all the time. One advantage is the fact that I can plan opportunities for teachers to go and observe others. Learning walks taking place with teachers, administrators & specialists. Embed it into collaborative planning #leadlap#LCInnovation
A6. I truly believe the culture one creates at a school plays a big role. If the culture is one of growth, constant improvement, learning, these conversations may occur often, without formality. #LeadLAP
A6: l learned a method of Socratic Seminar years ago at a AMLE workshop that helps Ss learn how to identify & ask different “levels” of Qs. Is a great tool to push them when they are researching to go beyond “surface” Qs #LeadLAP
A5: Take pictures, video & post them via Twitter @ClassDojo the school website, newsletters, etc... Anywhere people can see them. We have to paint our own picture, or someone will paint it for us #LeadLAP
A6: Give them an opportunity to wonder! In our Gr1 class, students are creating "I wonder" questions about animals to lead us into the next unit... then guide them in researching the answers, creating Passion Projects! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A5: I am in classrooms daily as a Principal. I want my students and staff to see me as a lead learner. Saw fantastic lessons yesterday using @Flipgrid, google hangouts with elementary students, students building hydroponic gardens, using @breakoutEDU It was awesome! #leadlap
A5: Our team had a #lessonstudy two weeks ago- so powerful! #learningwalks are incredible too! Utilizing prep time to learn from others. So honored to learn from our brilliant Ts & Ss! #LeadLAP
A6-5E lesson plan (I even use this as a counselor!) Give students the topic and the opportunity to inquire their own thoughts, assumptions, and questions about the material. Giving students the opportunity to explore before explaining!! #LeadLAP
A6 my favorite strategy of all time is answering questions with questions. and help lead them to the answer by asking questions. Thank you #avid#leadlap
A5. Personal time in classrooms is awesome...ie pineapple chart! A baby step we are taking is watching YouTube videos of strategies we are learning and processing together. It’s fun to see Ts try those and things in their own classrooms! #LeadLAP
A2: It may be my age or it may be this era, but I am now allowing myself to be far more vulnerable in front of kids—to be honest about my shortcomings & mistakes & humanity. It unlocks a world of new growth for us all. #leadlap
A5: I observe Ts several times a week, and they are going to start sharing best practices in our weekly meetings. After reading suggestions from #leadlap, I'm going to allot time for them to visit other classrooms. #reasonswhyIlovetwitter
A5: One of my favorite things as an admin is being able to see teachers teach often. Collaboration, team teaching and anything that gets T’s and S’s working & learning with new people is great. Always open to letting T’s observe others in our bldg or elsewhere. #LeadLAP
A6: Allow them to be (and feel!) Like the experts. I challenge them to figure things out and teach me. "I don't know" comes out of my mouth A LOT. #leadlap
A6: the projects and assignments you create have to cause Ss to think rather than simply recall. DOK -1 and 0 questions do not cause students to ask questions. We must be intentional in this #leadlap
A6: The right curriculum can give a HUGE assist in shifting the work to the learners.
Every one of the @openupresources curricula is designed to actively promote active learning.
#leadlap#NCE18https://t.co/emp9vGMhuW
A6: It must be an all inclusive commitment to culture shift. Common beliefs lead to common language and that becomes the foundation for a culture committed to empowering Ss to become learners, not just players in the game of the week. #LeadLAP
A6 By giving Ss time to talk! Collaboration and discussion gives Ss opportunities to ask and get feedback from others. Skills they learn through modeling and practice! #LeadLAP
A6: To help anyone develop the right Q - time has to be given to develop Qs. Qs need to be encouraged, applauded, practiced, and refined. Good/right Qs are both a skill and an art. #leadlap
A5: one T set up a learning walk and invited other classes, T’s and myself to chat with her class about the work they had done with projects on Greece, so many great convos about learning! Loved it 😀 #LeadLAP
Q6: I discourage student criticism when a student asks a question. 8th graders don't know it all; they pretend. I have a way of "busting chops" when Ss are criticized for asking questions. I also encourage online (credible) inquiry research. Answers are always there! #LeadLAP
A6: make sure you have enough TIME to let the questions evolve. Use "stretchy" questions and practice in every subject, not just the obvious ones #LeadLAP
A5: Do projects that are bigger than one class. That is, do real work. When we aim to make the world a better place, we need to leverage relationships in our school and community. Our classroom grows and the visibility of our work grows through a powerful story. #LeadLAP
A6: I model what it looks like to be an inquisitive learner. I constantly find myself saying “What do you guys think? I genuinely have no idea!” Before long, they start to pose the same types of questions. We’re all learning together and shared inquiry benefits everyone! #LeadLAP
So awesome! We are working on this and hoping to grow the hashtag organically with excited Ts who really want to tweet! - the hype is already spreading:) #leadlap
A5: Currently involved in a action research project with @borsheim and other university colleagues. Building bridges with educators outside of my building, guest speakers, inviting preservice Ts, and student Ts into my room keeps my practice fresh. #LeadLAP
A3 It doesn't look the same every day. Just like exercising, to get the best results you need some muscle confusion. Not that we want confused Ss, but we want to keep them wanting more, asking great Q's and ultimately empowered. Room feels welcoming and can get noisey. #LeadLAP
A5. We don't do this enough! Teachers + administrators need to work together to create "trust infrastructure" that makes peer sharing + feedback work. Without trust, any "rounds" system won't work. This takes time, commitment + genuine desire; it's also completely free. #LeadLAP
A6: By doing activities or projects, that make Ss ask questions for themselves because they want to move forward. Then, it is truly about the learning. #leadlap
A6: This is a HUGE culture shift - asks Ts to make significant changes in their practice, especially if they’re traditional. Have to build a culture with Ts that supports this. Once you do, it’ll extend to Ss. #leadlap
A6: Foster a culture of risk-taking! Ask questions! Listen to each other! Create a culture of collaboration for all learners. Provide learners with the opportunity to follow their own paths to show mastery of content. #StudentAgency#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A6: Supportive environment... built trust. Spotlight all Ss strengths to encourage 4Cs with one another. Open ended time frame to reduce pressure. Hugs and High-Fives! #LeadLAP#Nan3EDU
A5: I created a virtual faculty room using Google Classroom, I called it Teacher's Corner I post shout outs and have encourage other teachers to post their success. Try to add some humor by posting teacher jokes as well
#leadlap
A6 Respect builds enough self confidence for a student to use their voice to ask questions and throw out their ideas . Learning should be a comfortable stretch not a race to be right. #LeadLAP
A6: My classroom is completely gamified and that environment seems to push students out of that model when the teacher is the answer provider. Guilds and gamer knowledge are key sources for success! #LeadLAP
A5. As an Admin, it happens all the time. One advantage is the fact that I can plan opportunities for teachers to go and observe others. Learning walks taking place with teachers, administrators & specialists. Embed it into collaborative planning #leadlap#LCInnovation
A6b: if Alexa or Siri can answer it (or Google) then we shouldn’t be asking it period! We must create space for kids to think and ask questions #leadlap
A2: I am striving to go gradeless. Such a challenge to shift mindset of Ss, admin & parents, but is essential if we want middle school ed to reflect learning & growth, and not compliance. #Leadlap
We asked Ts to focus on the things related to school (some added personal things & that is always good knowledge to have as leader.) We strategized next steps & followed up in PLCs about what we could support, also how some things on our plates fit into our vision. #LeadLAP
A6: Two things: Focus on things that Google can't tell you https://t.co/8YYyGOAMF4 and teach learners (young and old) to ask questions about the problems they see in their home, community, and world. #LeadLAP
A6. It is a shift in culture, where modeling is part of the environment. Learners need to know that it is great to ask ?s and not just look for answers. How are we guiding our Ss to find knowledge? Are we sharing the tools or are we limiting their access? #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
Learners need exposure to the world to effectively ask questions that will solve problems. Through #googleexpeditions#Skype#Hangouts, students can explore the world and consider inequities in society. #leadlap
A6: This is a challenge because most often learners do not want to take risks so I work to create a trusting atmosphere and model risks with staff so they can model with Ss. #LeadLAP
Yes. Trust is a critical factor in making this happen. As an assistant superintendent, I used to walk through classrooms with our union reps just like I did with principals. Powerful! #LeadLAP
A6: I ask students, “What topics are trending in your lives?” as a way to give choice and raise voice. Then paired their trending topics with YA Lit. They had awesome ideas! #LeadLAP
A6 Provide an environment that inspires a passion for learning by building relationships providing relevant learning opportunities and focusing on the future. #leadlap
A6: As an administrator, the key is to start by immersing the Ts in an empowering and collaborative environment. They are more likely to provide for Ss what is modeled for them first. #LeadLAP
A6. This is something I am struggling with right now. In student groups where I remove myself, I notice some students take on lead learner role, but there are students who are used to the passive student role. How to serve those students ? #LeadLAP
A3: SAFE. Curious. Honest. Vulnerable. Comfortable. Nobody’s watching the clock. Sometimes tears fill the eyes. Laden with “Aha!” moments that sometimes get excitedly loud & sometimes get powerfully quiet and sober. #leadlap
A6: teaching Ss how to listen and ask each other Qs to push their thinking puts them in the drivers seat. This is a “tussle” activity we are practicing to provide feedback to each other, and we learned that Qs is the highest form of feedback to push thinking #LeadLAP
Q5: I wish we could record our teaching using Periscope (or other programs) for others to see. At PD, we could look at what our colleagues are doing. #leadlap
A6 Find out what your S's are passionate about give them time to work on their passions. Model doing the same yourself, dive into something your passionate about #LeadLAP
A6: There has to be consideration when designing the curriculum and the scope and sequence for providing time for deeper thinking about the content. How we treat the content is more important than how much much we can cram in. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
#leadlap I like to say “the best questions lead to more questions rather than thinking you know all the answers” I leave good questions visible so, we can continue to ponder them
A6: Spark their curiosity, expose them to things they have’nt experienced. Incorporate the arts. Give them time to explore and interact with a variety of people places and things #leadlap
A6 I focus my class on building the art of asking questions. We need to empower inquisitive & curious students. We want leaders who reflect, analyze and ask questions. We need them to direct their own answers & questions. If you do all the work, they will never learn. #LeadLAP
A4b: If I'm working harder than my Ss (time- & investment-wise), then I'm doing something wrong. I should engage them in lrng in thoughtful ways so that they can interact authentically w/ the lrng that in turn changes them. (Still struggling with this!) #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A6: We must give them permission, equip and empower them so they gain the confidence needed to create without fear. This learner is cutting up his PSA poster to create a puzzle for his care package for our soldiers. #creativity#empowerment#leadlap
A6: I had a conversation yesterday about the struggle for me between letting the students work through hard times without giving the answers and how uncomfortable / powerful it is for the learner and the teacher! #LeadLAP
A6b- Cooperative learning. I like to see all students answering/asking questions simultaneously. More opportunity to share.. more opportunities to learn. #LeadLAP
A6: give them projects where they can decide if something is wrong without even asking a teacher...this is our scale drawing project...if a point looks out of place, it probably is, so how can we fix it? #leadlap
A7 I'm having a science exploration day with multiple centers to explore- I think it'll be a blast! Kids will have a lot of choice about where to spend their time. #LeadLAP
A6 having questions and lessons thought out ahead of time, so you can create the atmosphere that will get Ss thinking deeper beyond recall, also modeling this daily #leadLAP
A6. To empower learners to find the right questions look at the why/why now behind urge to answer NOW. IOW reframe as a stressor that gets quelled by finding an answer. Then shift sense of tension relief from being on figuring out answer to figuring out Q. #selfreg#LeadLAP
A7: Next week is Random Acts of Kindness week, so I can make a purposeful effort to show Ss and Ts kindness and gratitude each day, then inspire them to do the same! #passionforkindness#LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A7: I will continue to share what research I'm reading about with staff in our weekly newsletter and also include why I think it is important or how is pushing my thinking #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A4: the best thing I have stopped doing is that I have stopped RUSHING just for the sake of “covering” more. I have stopped dividing up topics into tidy little units (or subject areas) that stand apart from each other. #leadlap
A6 I focus my class on building the art of asking questions. We need to empower inquisitive & curious students. We want leaders who reflect, analyze and ask questions. We need them to direct their own answers & questions. If you do all the work, they will never learn. #LeadLAP
A6: Encourage inquiry! When learners ask questions, respond with strategic questions that challenge their thinking & help guild their path to owning their own learning & solutions #LeadLAP
A6: I’m examining my own practices to see if what I’m doing is making our work more about compliance vs. empowerment. Are we spending our time talking with people about stuff that actually matters? Inviting them to an adventure? Check the box does not blow my hair back. #LeadLAP
A6: Create opp fo Ss to share their learning for an authentic audience helps focus on the right questions. Makes learning relevant and meaningful. Often they discover things that I didn’t even know! #leadlap#lcinnovation
I sure don’t have all the answers! So I have to create opportunities for Ts to collaborate, to work with their PLCs, to observe other Ts in action, to question, to participate in PD that they’re passionate about, to explore. Everybody benefits! #LEADLap#LCinnovation
A7. Today, I plan to take a little while and read through all the #leadlap Tweets. There’s some great ideas here, many I can bring back to my school. Twitter is an excellent form of immediate professional development.
A6 paired up with my amazing media specialist to launch passion projects with every 3rd grade class -it all starts with/questions -she is brilliantly teaching them how to ask questions about what matters to them. This is one empowering period for every single S #LeadLAP
A7 - I am going to continued seek out teachers doing a great job at my school and leave them a hand written note about what I see! I am going to also seek out students that might be going under the radar and recognize them for the good they are doing! #LeadLAP
A6: When kids are met with safety, security and care in the classroom they will always grow to feel more secure about who & what they are, expressing/communicating all that they think, more freely with less apprehension/increased confidence. #LeadLAP#LoveWorks
A7: I’m tossing out my plans! I am going to write skills on board and have Ss create plan to turn in to my principal... this is EXCITING! #LeadLAP#Nan3EDU
A7- Get out of my office! Have conversations, ask for student feedback, let students lead, observe teachers, share ideas, be open to feedback, and most of all, smile, be positive, and let our energies radiate through the school! #LeadLAP
A7. Share some time in a classroom, model a mini-lesson and collaborate while teachers try new ideas. Surprise a staff member with a letter of appreciation :) Share some resources via email (teachers love resources) #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
If we leave each class + each day completely exhausted, it's probably because we did most of the hard thinking! Those who do the thinking do the learning! It can be hard to remove ourselves because it's not the model. #LeadLAP
The math curriculum features 2-4 student activities per lesson, many collaborative.
Students engage in real-world problem-solving, promoting their conceptual understanding... which both engages S's and fosters fluency w/ math procedures.

A7: Focus on getting feedback from your students! Share it with your team. Be relentless about working together to fill in gaps and/or create opportunities. LISTEN! #LeadLAP
Q7: I'm turning Harriet Tubman into a contemporary lesson on digital citizenship. Her efforts to free African Americans is enlightening grade 8 Ss about human trafficking and modern day slavery and responsible usage of the internet. #LeadLAP
A5: We need to change the culture of how teachers develop their craft. Instead of being scared to fail, we need to make them comfortable to learn publicly without fear of judgement and penalty. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A7 Launched a collaborative Kindness campaign. Sending more video/virtual challenges to collaborate. Keep building relationships & activities with classes around the world. Encourage authentic/engaging virtual learning experiences. Thx @bmilla84 for being brave with me. #LeadLAP
A7: Continue leading by example and ignoring the eye rolls and "alien looks" I get from colleagues when I offer to do more more more. #leadlap#taketime#tomaketime#howcanihelp
A5: I share out the awesome things going on in the classrooms on Twitter & the feed is embedded on our school website. 😊👍🏼We can also encourage & create opportunities where Ss share their learning w Ss across grade levels or across the hallway! #leadLAP
A7: I’m working on creating a global collaboration for my culinary 3 class as we learn International Cuisine. Launching our Amazing Race soon! #leadlap#LCinnovation
When of my first memorable class discussion started with the question “why are reindeer called reindeer?” It kickstarted a bunch of musing of why things were called what they were and we even learned some Latin! #leadlap
A7 Launched a collaborative Kindness campaign. Sending more video/virtual challenges to collaborate. Keep building relationships & activities with classes around the world. Encourage authentic/engaging virtual learning experiences. Thx @bmilla84 for being brave with me. #LeadLAP
Wow! What empowerment of students to direct their learning and show accountability to not only administration but teachers, families, and peers. #LeadLAP
A7: I’m tossing out my plans! I am going to write skills on board and have Ss create plan to turn in to my principal... this is EXCITING! #LeadLAP#Nan3EDU
A7: Show your reading, writing, and thinking processes. Create a learning community that encourages sharing of ideas. Think. Pair. Share. Works wonders for classroom talk. Be a lead learning and students will risk with you. #LeadLAP
A7: Inspired by the comments involving student voice here today. In the theme of Valentines, thinking to ask my Ss what they are loving about their learning experiences this year, and what they are not loving. Their feedback matters to push my thinking and planning. #LeadLAP
Here is an archive of today's chat! Thank you so much to @katiemartinedu and the whole #LeadLAP crew for an amazing hour of learning and reflecting! #LCInnovation
#LeadLAP A7 create a learning community of teachers who want to learn and collaborate to create better learning environments for our students. Not just my department but high school elementary Ts in all subjects.
A7: I currently have a preservice teacher who is lead teaching. Next week, while she is teaching, I will go into classrooms to support Ss and observe first hand the wonderful teaching happening in the building. #LeadLAP
A7: Let them lead! Here's a class modeling the difference between #equity and #equality in front of 500 of their peers. I plan to do more of this. https://t.co/2JzVmcXNk7 Thanks #leadlap family for a great chat!
That's awesome! Tag me in your post when you share what they create! We're having a Mardi Gras Makerspace for Ts on Tuesday - I can't wait! So much fun this coming week! #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
We didn't really do much! We talked about it, modelled it, added it to a PL EdCamp at our school and its just taken off! We talk about how powerful of a tool it is and how quick it can be in a class! #LeadLAP
In reply to
@JordanKMichie, @CayabyabAlana, @katiemartinedu
A7: support my staff each and every day to be innovative and push their learning. Supporting the shift from low level learning to more critical thinking and creation rather than consumption by Ss is a must #leadlap
A7: We have PD during planning Mon, so I can't observe someone. I'm thinking about doing an activity to get my students asking questions. We're working on argumentative writing, so maybe we can brainstorm problems that need solving that they can use for their writing. #leadlap
So sorry! Trying to jump on so super late! A5 My colleague and I are in the process of creating a pineapple corner and are pumped to put it into action and of course plan to put ourselves out there as soon as we can to hopefully inspire others:) #LeadLAP
A5: One of our sch non-negotiables is that we all coach each other. Our goal: get into other T's rooms regularly. We make space at the beginning of our T mtgs to share coaching notes. Often these times lead to shared collaboration between classrooms. #LeadLAP#LCInnovation
A7: When someone approaches me with a problem or feedback, instead of worrying about how it makes me look or feel about myself, see the opportunity to make a difference. Show them with my response and follow-up that I care deeply. #LeadLAP
A7: have had lots of time to think about what’s important and what I can do to support teachers while I have been at home. Have been reading awesome tweets and recording my own take on the ideas in Google Keep am excited...#LeadLAP
A6. I always try to connect the world with metaphors. I love to use the classic Sesame Street/Muppets song, Just One
Person. This version was sung at Jim Henson's funeral. #powerfulhttps://t.co/t5013za6VX#LeadLAP
A7: We're planning for our STEAM night on Monday, so I'm going to share this image from the Space X launch as an example of learning + executing without fear (and how it can lead to amazing outcomes). Imagine a world where learning is rewarded with knowledge, not grades #leadlap
Love to all of you who took the time to share together, learn together and reflect together. Our collective wisdom inspires and energized me every week. Live boldly this week #leadlap
How awesome was #LeadLAP today! Phenomenal questions from @katiemartinedu and great reflections from this amazing crew. Thanks as always for helping me stretch and grow.
Q7: Confer 1:1 with each student (this may take TWThF as well) Ask them how things are going, how to best support their learning, and help them set goals. #LeadLAP
I do leave most days completely exhausted but, honestly, it's from driving the momentum. My Ss often joke about leaving with a headache from thinking so hard...& I'm learning how to make it happen. #LeadLap
A7: knock down the silos, collaborate and communicate. We’re all in it for the same reason- the kids. Share ideas whether they worked or not. Someone is listening and watching. Be their model. #LeadLAP
Every morning my students have advisory for 30 minutes. They love games and debate. Instead of me planning advisory, students (who have engaged in over 100 advisories now) can sign up to lead the class in an advisory of their choosing. #leadlap
A7. Intentionally, publicly recognize those Ts who facilitate moments and environments where students are the leaders of their own learning. Recognize and support bravery. Lead by example by taking charge of my own learning via podcasts, PLN, reading to learn! #LeadLAP
There was help at all levels as well as honest convos around how to support one another & be the best we can be for our Ss. Some very obvious examples of Ts helping Ts... our Ts are awesome at supporting one another. #TMGenius#LeadLAP
A7 I plan to surprise my colleagues (unless they see this:) Monday morning by finally hanging their #oneword2018 on the front wall of our building-my hope is they will inspire every T, S, parent, and admin that walk in. #LeadLAP
A7: I can revisit my "why" & be focused with my time. Prioritize my time with the tasks that connect with my personal vision & will have the most impact #LeadLAP
How awesome was #LeadLAP today! Phenomenal questions from @katiemartinedu and great reflections from this amazing crew. Thanks as always for helping me stretch and grow.
A7: I have been going through my photo stream and am creating movies about what we have been doing throughout our year together...will show staff at our meeting and students at assemblies and will post on our school website #LeadLAP
