Good evening! This is Hannah Rome from CCES! Kindergarten teacher!
Good evening Vanguard friends!
I suppose we'll jump right in...tonight's topic; Fostering a School Culture to Promote Personalized Learning
I'm here!! Just finished a phone call!
Don't forget your Vanguard hashtag! We'll use the standard Q1 Q2 A1 A2 format
Checking in between the kiddos baths. Excited to hear from
Heather T here from Sweet Apple
A2: Ummmm.....I'm gonna wait to see what my friends say....like old school classroom style.
Nancy here from Abbotts Hill! Glad to chat tonight!
A1: Culture a decided disposition. Climate are the conditions which allow for the disposition. https://t.co/FmAJOt9QSw
Hi . Home and ready for some chattin.
Classroom culture is the trust and relationships. The climate is the environment that trust creates
Hopping on a bit late, but glad to be here this week!!
A1 Culture seems to me that is more based on norms. Climate perhaps more on ups and downs.
A1: I've always leaned toward culture is "how we do things" climate is "how we feel about being here"
A1: climate the result of culture... Can be easily amended if necessary
A1: Culture-relationships established between those involved at the school... Climate-how the school is perceived
A1: Culture: established norms and Climate: attitude and or energy
A1: Culture is the routine of things/ expectations. Climate is how people feel about those routines and expectations
I think climate is the feel of the classroom/school welcoming vs tension. Culture is what is embraced and focused on
Great responses! Y'all are HOTT tonight! 😁
- They've got to make up for Beyonce canceling her show on you tonight!
Q2 What features should be present within a school/classroom culture to support personalized learning? https://t.co/4cGyRyS32C
A1: is evident when Ss adapt to variety of web-based tools on the fly during innovative instruction
A2: Trust between all parties - Ss, Ts, admin.
Q1 Attitude =climate, personality = culture
I've never heard I LIKE!!
A2: flexibility, trust, collaboration, shared successes
A2 lots of encouragement, attaboys and modeling. Understanding this is learning curve or all. Chance of observing others...
A2:Said it once, or 100times... Adaptability,innovation,willingness 2venture into the unknown& fail up https://t.co/qQmpFLQwtL
Q2 What features should be present within a school/classroom culture to support personalized learning? https://t.co/4cGyRyS32C
A2: I think a flexibility and willingness to embrace change with students' best interests in mind
A2 Trust and collaboration.
A2: Trust for sure, willingness to take a chance on both Ss and Ts
A2- the teacher and Ss work together to create a climate that works for both
A2: initial establishing open ideas protocols
Q2: risk free environment
Teachers need to know their students...learning styles, their currency, and their strengths and growth areas
A2: inspiration and perseverance
A2: the testing culture is draining and drowning staff. Finished milestones and now STAR, DRA,.. No chance for =ok
Yes! difficult to make plans for end of year that are personalized, but that's for us to persevere through ;)
A2: Student-driven norms that facilitate multiple feedback loops b/t peers and Ts within blended spaces
A2 growth mindset, planned opportunities to try and try again, flexible learning spaces
When you bond with your students, let them know you are trusted and caring , they will work harder to meet your expectations.
A2: I love when admins model
A3: flexibility, grace, positivity, patience
A3: All parties need to be willing to try something new with the understanding it just might not work.
Willingness to fail, patience with Ss and themselves while learning
A3: love of learning as an adult, willingness to be wrong
A3: flexibility adaptability and creativity
A3- encouraging attitude, patience, flexibility
Belief in their students' ability
A3: teachers that embrace lifelong learning =great role models
YES!!!! PLEASE!!!!! I want so badly to do more design thinking and empathy is such a huge part
And also belief in their own ability as a teacher, inspire-er, and leader! https://t.co/QKFeO8hLFx
Belief in their students' ability
A3 Risk taking should be a norm!
A3. Teachers have to be risk-takers and not be afraid if something goes wrong.
A3: Teachers need to turn their stress into constructive energy! Accept that they don't know it all and that's ok!
A3: Value for the process of learning that is overtly expressed in words & practice.
A3 need enthusiasm for the benefit of PL! those farther down path how is it going?still convo for diff of PL/differentiation
A3: I think a valuable norm will be dedicating PLC time to Personalized Learning discussion/planning.
Q4 What attitudes and norms must be prevalent among students? They don't get off of the hook! https://t.co/go7BBdeYdp
Jumping in late. Hi all! T here. Hope you don't mind me the learning party😉
- Happy to merge the and !! Thanks for joining!!
A4: Interestingly, most of the same ones that I want to see from teachers. We're all in this together. :)
A4: Ability to think for themselves, cooperation with peers, determination
A4: Problem solving skills...with social situations, academics and personal problems
A4 - positive attitude is key
So exciting to share the love with TX!!
A3It's important we help S develop knowledge of their own learning styles, preferences and academic/social strengths/weaknesses
It's Thursday, which explains why there was no chat last night, lol. Sorry I'm joining so late.
A4: I really want an attitude of cooperation and camaraderie - a LOT of Ts will be learning at the same time as the Ss.
A4 Ss should be engaged in all facets of their learning. Plan, do, review!
A4It's important we help S develop knowledge of their own learning styles, preferences and academic/social strengths/weaknesses
A4: I agree that it is many of the same: growth mindset, willingness to take a chance and flexibility
sometimes i just want to say to the kiddos "can't we all just get along??"
A4: Ss have to risk-takers too! There is a learning curve for all.
Well hey, hey Ms. J! ;) SO glad you're here :)
A4 willingness to take risks
A5: Baby steps to help model the way.
A5: An important early step will be to make it feel safe to experiment and safe to fail. Failing = learning!
Great school with amazing ideas coming out of it! They're definitely a school to watch!
A5: Great time for the PL principle of choice and voice!
A4 Ss need to understand that edu isn't happening to them. Ss need habits that foster taking control of their edu
A4: Flexible, persistent, optimistic. Ss must take ownership of their learning.
Anyone who knows me well knows I am a huge fan of the baby step!
A5: Encourage and reinforce buy in and chances taken whether they are successful or not. Talk up growth and progress
A5: Give up the control! Let the students take the reigns and feel supported in doing so
Such a great baby step. I've seen Ts ease into C&V by just offering 2 choices of content or presentation.
A3 A willingness to try new things, take risks, and try again even if it's not perfect the first time.
A5: Build Ts capacity thru applicable training that focuses on collaboration skills & virtual project-based learning
A5: Take to time to work on relationships, procedures, management-teaching, modeling, practice. Setting expectations high.
Encourage, celebrate, showcase, reflect...regardless of the outcome...repeat.
Stumbled upon a great discussion going on in now. https://t.co/GYGUaaw0yk
I suppose we'll jump right in...tonight's topic; Fostering a School Culture to Promote Personalized Learning
A5 Speak what we mean. "Work" is not the same as "learning". Disrupt ingrained "playing school" habits in Ss.
Celebrate EVERY success and failure as part of the learning process-help them track/see their growth! https://t.co/TJh5fZQugQ
Gonna speed ahead here! Q7 coming up!
A7: A bad attitude and unwillingness to change!
A7: Ss that are looking for the "right" answer, afraid of getting the "wrong" answer.
A7: oh paradigm shift all round. PBL has prob helped us in some shift...
Great question! biggest obstacle is when folks allow their perceptions to outweigh realities! https://t.co/5W1cLujfda
A7: I wish there were more hours in the day!
A7- sometimes there life issues that are out of the teacher's risk
A7: , inability or unwillingness to challenge themselves, teachers who are afraid of the change...
A7: The way we used to do it. Belief that we HAVE to use technology all the time. The definition of PL.
A7 - sometimes there are life issues that are out of the teacher's reach
A7 Time for both students and teachers to learn & create
A7: lack of modeling (no ), not a focus or goal of admin
Q7: lack of effort will be the biggest obstacle...no excuses 😎
- Probably because they never saw the present. :)
A7: Status quo, old guards, FEAR, lack of effective communication.
Truth! I may need a brainstorm with y'all this summer planning for some PD at my school next year
A7 teacher training and resources to meet the demands/needs of students
gotta run. Thank you .... Plenty to ponder! Night all.
that good 'ole Status Quo...it's comfortable but no growth for Ts or Ss
