Stephen checking in from Philly HS STEAMIE. hmmm... how I gladiate for my Ss is to consistently challenge them to challenge themselves to grow comfortable with being uncomfortable. My mentor told me ages ago, always stuck with me #pln365#EduGladiators
A1) making sure students are given opportunity to reflect, self assess, and build towards mastery through feedback. Staying consistent in that arena I believe will help students win this year. #pln365#EduGladiators
A1 - my W.I.N. is starting the year out on the right foot, which for my #alted Ss can be challenging to say the least. Have added some new perspectives this year, so will start with some of our old stuff to review, as a springboard to the new #pln365#EduGladiators
A1: My focus this year is for Ss to see in themselves that they CAN learn and do math. Teaching remedial math to incoming freshman who are multiple yrs behind (according to MAP Test & Teacher Eval). #pln365#EduGladiators
A1 starting on relationships and creating ways for students to be more active in the classroom, Drive their learning and support them each day #pln365#EduGladiators
A1: Focus on instructional practices & supporting my staff in a positive & joyful environment! I want to focus on our strengths & make sure ALL our students needs are met! #pln365#EduGladiators
A1: My focus this year is to ensure that students with challenging behaviors don't fall through the cracks. I want to support students who have difficulty navigating school. #pln365#EduGladiators
A2: A want to be a game-changer to do what's BEST for students even if it's uncomfortable for me or for other who are not comfortable with change - #growthmindset#pln365
Focusing on that at the start of the year is critical! Always helps not the Ss & Ts when we can be proactive instead of reactive when behavior is an issue. #pln365#EduGladiators
A2) No matter what do what’s best for kids. Lead by example and do what you know is the right thing for your students no matter what others say #pln365#EduGladiators
A2: Focus on what is best for Ss and fight for them. I don't just want to rock the boat, I'm ready to flip the pedagogy completely! #pln365#EduGladiators
A2 - My goal this year IS to be the gamechanger. I'm not using numerical grades this year. Am focusing on 21st century skills instead. My #alted Ss (and my school) are too caught up in the numbers. It doesn't serve them well at all. #pln365#EduGladiators
A2: Stepping out of our comfort zone & thinking creatively w/in our box while making sure that all our decisions are student centered! #pln365#EduGladiators@gcouros
A2 explore opportunities, share our ideas and our passions and the why behind what we want to do, work together to come up with a plan that everyone is comfortable with trying at first, but I rather go for it if I believe that it's best 😉 #pln365#EduGladiators
A2: I feel like too often people think that change needs to be accomplished on their own. We can network within building/district or via our PLN to help close deals and bring about lasting change. #pln365
Yes! & modeling practices that we want to see in classrooms & risk taking. We expect our Ts to take risks, so Admins need to do the same & set the standard! #pln365#EduGladiators
A3: This year I will be serving in a different school community. Building trust takes time which will be my biggest challenge. I am so excited and can't wait to hit the ground running when our full team arrives. #pln365
A2: When keeping what’s best for kids first, there will often be the rocking of the boat 🚣♀️. Our job is to keep the vision in front of us, have tough conversations with those “not on board” and keep paddling. #pln365
Yes! The learning happens during the change process and its meaning is in direct proportion to the involvement of others. Give others the opportunity to own the change! #pln365#edugladiators

A3: If you want to change your class or school you have to change how Ss & Ts behave.
And if you want to change how they behave, you have to first change how they think. #pln365
A3: Continuing to keep the needs of the students at the front, and remembering that each opportunity we have to educate our kiddos is a good day to have a good day! #pln365@ERobbPrincipal@KTuttleEDU
A3 - complacency. I worry about how my Admin will respond to my new approach. I am the knock it down if it ain't working type and it ain't working. I don't worry about S buy-in. I have the tools and they trust me, that part is easy #pln365#EduGladiators
A3: Those who are resistant to change (other Ts, admin, Ps, Ss). We have to have those conversations F2F and work relationships to build a culture of 21st century learning. #PLN365#EduGladiators
A3: Reward those that make the attempt particularly if they need to change course along the way. That will encourage others to put themselves out there! #pln365
A:3 Meeting people where they are! Continue to foster positive relationships & building trust! Pay attn to the little things that matter! #EduGladiators#pln365
A3 Finding enough time, and having the right resources, if there is resistance to change, sometimes the testing schedules interfere. #pln365#edugladiators
A3: Comfort. Success. Just because we reached the top of the mountain, there are others that are just starting their journey. Am I willing to descend and travel along with them on their ascent to the top? #pln365
A3: I have come to learn that Ts will not change entrenched attitudes & behavior unless they believe it is worth it - they will gain more than they give up #pln365
A4: Having a sense of urgency in our work and advocacy is a key component of implementing change. Don't be afraid to ask Qs & jump in to be part of the solution! Plus it's great example we are setting for our Ss to take action! #pln365#EduGladiators
A4: I tell my students that I believe that I am teaching future presidents, executive chefs, CEOs, plumbers, educators, and more. My belief in them means that I am going to push them, because I know they are up to the task. Help Ss believe in themselves! #pln365
A3: I would say that it takes courage to be vulnerable. Game changers take risks and do so publicly, The challenge-being up to whatever comes with that. #pln365#EduGladiators
A4: We model grit and tenacity in the challenges we face each day. Life, as a teacher, is not easy. Whether we believe it or not, our kids are watching how we respond to and overcome challenges. #pln365

A4 - I use a salmon metaphor about swimming upstream besides the current and the waterfalls, there are BEARS you have to avoid too. I talk to them about how powerful it can be to go upstream bc all of my #alted Ss have their current, waterfalls and BEARS #pln365#EduGladiators
A4) We have to show them we aren’t afraid of taking risks ourselves. Continue to show how we push boundaries and bounce back from not succeeding the first time #EduGladiators#pln365
