A1: Being present & providing praise is a critical aspect for motivating staff--really being present & demonstrating appreciation for specific accomplishments. #MEMSPAchat#motivation#praise#present
Q1: How do you motivate your staff and/or students to always “HAVE A GREAT DAY?” #MEMSPAchat (Also - What @Bitmoji can you use here to motivate staff?)
Food is always a good motivator! But we also use celebrations and every staff meeting to remind everybody of all the good that is going on in the building. #MEMSPAchat
Q1: How do you motivate your staff and/or students to always “HAVE A GREAT DAY?” #MEMSPAchat (Also - What @Bitmoji can you use here to motivate staff?)
A1: I understand the importance of leading by example. The leaders make the weather and form the culture. Be positive, be engaged and do everything in your power to help them see the positive!! #MEMSPAchat
A1: You got to, accent-uate the positive and el-im-inate the negative and latch on, to the affirmative and don't mess with Mr. In-Between! #memspachathttps://t.co/zK2Fvl4NYH
A1: Relationships and contact...SAY IT. Continuous positive energy that is heard, seen, and felt by students and staff. Be positive...always.
#MEMSPAchat
A1 Always try to model and lead with positive attitude. Build relationships using humor and laughing when I make mistakes helps. Also important to acknowledge staff efforts and accomplishments. #MEMSPAchat
Question 2 is on deck on #MEMSPAchat - Stay tuned!
We are working in the @Bitmoji avatar's into our questions and even answers tonight to have a little fun!
A1: Although it can be challenging…I try to let the positives about our team drown out the negatives of a moment. Lead with optimism and hope. #MEMSPAchat
Q2: When you know a parent or staff member is upset and “HAD IT UP TO HERE”, how do you handle the situation? #MEMSPAchat (Also, what @Bitmoji could help in this situation?)

Q2: When you know a parent or staff member is upset and “HAD IT UP TO HERE”, how do you handle the situation? #MEMSPAchat (Also, what @Bitmoji could help in this situation?)
A1: Leaders set the mood. Be enthusiastic and happy, even when you’re having a challenging day. Celebrate each staff member’s contributions and talents often. #MEMSPAchat
A2 Listen, listen, listen. Sometimes rather than rushing to fix an issue, it's valuable to connect with the individual and first determine what the actual issue is. #MEMSPAchat
A2: with Ts jump in and assist them when possible. With Ps give them space and listen. When both are calm try to empathize and move forward #MEMSPAchat
A2: I enter EVERY situation with the mindset that there is positive intent. Insights, thoughts, ideas, concerns or even problems are put out there because they care. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Upset parents are usually a sign of miscommunication. Time for a listening ear, understanding & empathy (might not mean we change our mind, but approach with an open one) #MEMSPAchat
A2: It is so important to look for ways to address concerns and frustrations head on. Look for ways to negotiate, dispel or otherwise compromise in order to move forward together. Relationships are the key!! #MEMSPAchat
A2: My two words for this year when working with others are patience and kindness. I find that they are pretty much what I need when things are stressful. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Try to empathize and help the situation. Be authentic. LISTEN. Focus on serving and helping....knowing that looks different for each person. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: When you have made a mistake, how do you hold yourself accountable and say “OOPSIE WOOPSIE” to staff or parents? #MEMSPAchat (Any fun @Bitmoji that you can show here...?)
Q3: When you have made a mistake, how do you hold yourself accountable and say “OOPSIE WOOPSIE” to staff or parents? #MEMSPAchat (Any fun @Bitmoji that you can show here...?)
A3 I think it's important to share our vulnerability as leaders. We make mistakes (at least I do!) Important to acknowledge our mistakes, apologize if necessary and use the experience to growth. A sincere apology goes a long way. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Listen, show empathy, and offer support. Use humor if appropriate to help the person get out of the pool of frustration. Reassure that “this, too, shall pass”. #MEMSPAchat
A3: So I have two words when I am working with others. I have another that is just for me. That word is "transparency." When I make a mistake, I try to own it and be transparent about my struggles. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: When you have made a mistake, how do you hold yourself accountable and say “OOPSIE WOOPSIE” to staff or parents? #MEMSPAchat (Any fun @Bitmoji that you can show here...?)
A3: The first step is to admit the mistake. Vulnerability is a really important #leadership trait. The greatest leaders have an extreme ability to balance #confidence & #vulnerability -- often displaying them at the same time. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: When you have made a mistake, how do you hold yourself accountable and say “OOPSIE WOOPSIE” to staff or parents? #MEMSPAchat (Any fun @Bitmoji that you can show here...?)
3) Always admit your mistake before a second person points it out, whether the first person is you or someone else. Humility proceeds trust. Trust proceeds growth #MEMSPAchat
A3: Eye contact. Heartfelt apology. Provide specific facts of how I was wrong and my awareness of how it affected the other person. (Then don't guilt myself afterwards...move on!) #MEMSPAchat
A3: Ask for feedback and use those oopsie moments to improve your craft. I communicate directly with those that were impacted by your mistake. #MEMSPAchat
A3: Name it even if it’s in front of a large group. No excuses or backpedal. What you did that was wrong and what you might do differently next time #memspachat
A3: Just experienced this while at #MEMSPA17. Call parent while away & scheduled meet for first thing Mon. morning. Listened to son's side of the story, apologize & accept responsibility. #MEMSPAchat
A3: When I screw up (when...not if), say whoops, apologize if necessary and publicly reflect. That how leaders gain trust because of, rather than despite of, shortcomings. #MEMSPAchat
It's important to have grace for ourselves as we do others. Mistakes happen. My boss @MelissaLloyd836 often says, "If we are going to fail, we are going to fail forward." That's the mindset that I'm working on. #MEMSPAchat
A3: Great leaders embrace mistakes and take ownership. The best leaders use their own mistakes as opportunities to build a culture of forgiveness. Am I the only one who believes that great leaders check their ego at the door each morning?? #MEMSPAchat
Q4: In what ways do you celebrate the great things going on in your school by saying “PARTY TIME?” #MEMSPAchat (Add a @bitmoji to your tweet to show your celebration skills...)
