nope. I think some of them think they are impervious and untouchable and then it bites them in the behind
-
I don't think they do...every time I've told a player I saw something on their feed, they seem surprised I know how
-
A1: most definitely not. They fee that it's only their friends/people they want it to be seen by. Don't have to follow to see it
-
I think some realize it, some don't care (and it kills their stock), and some learn the hard way.

Many have no idea...they are busy building their brand on social media like they're a pro already

I saw some looks on kids faces last year when said they had people to monitor that
-
I've seen it cost numerous young men opportunities at our place as well as other institutions.

joining - our kind of topic! Our ppl jump over -
-
So for the athletes that you recruit, how often do you check their social media accounts?
-
- Do u think it's Social showing the character and they don't realize how much it matters or just Social?
-
Matthew Sentes
OL/DL/OC Lethbridge Steel
-
A1: Nope because I get some prospects that follow me and they are absolutely filthy with their posts. Entitlement era.
-
. What are your thoughts when a recruit's twitter feed is private?
-
few realize it, others post gang signs, smoke, drink alcohol, pics of 1/2 naked women with no clue ppl are watching
-
A1) There's always some that get it. Then there's the majority that are naive to what extent social media actually has.
-
I try to send the message out on social media but often it's too late. We have to go in what we see because we are limited.
-
What you post before you are recruited is just as important as after...clean it up! https://t.co/PHep212qzc

you do a great job of sending your message...I know a lot of coaches use your tweets to help tell their athletes

Tonight we are joined by to lead us in a great chat on social media and recruiting
-
I'm often asked. "How can we judge a kid on one mistake?" Our jobs depend on the guys we sign. We can't afford risk.
-
What is an example of a kid's social media account that made you stop recruiting him?
-
Do the kids realize that their social(even deleted) will show up forever? Digital footprint in cement.
-
Do most of you coaches have someone to keep an eye on this or is it too much to keep up with?
-
sometimes coaches make those mistakes on social media too. Isn't limited to kids unfortunately
-
-
I try as much as I can. Some of the accounts are private so I just question them to make sure it's clean and proper
-
We have most of our staff on Twitter. They can't hide it from everybody.
-
We see multiple accounts and they don't realize that all of them can be found.
-
All things that you shouldn't doing anyways...don't mess with it and don't post about it https://t.co/GLMAbmgNHn
-
-
Alcohol, drug related or guns is a definite red flag. I've dropped kids for all 3.

Besides negatives, are there positives that you look for on a recruits' social media?
-
I check accounts and will tell the kid, clean it up https://t.co/Uc0wo3xGvR

-
we don't constantly monitor, but we are responsible to make sure our position players are behaving
-
so how do you enforce and correct it?
-
Positive note - lots of kids who DM us about their social and ask us to take a look 2 see if it's okay.
-
It also sends a bad message when kids are posting after midnight on school nights or during the season. They need to be aware.

A coach is usually not assigned to monitor social media. We constantly mention the importance of "beware of what u post" 1/2
-
This is awesome and shows maturity and forward thinking! https://t.co/vJ5oWSjd5Z

Brett Bielema has openly said they have dropped numerous kids due to social media. He says " you recruit your own headaches"
-
We have printed certain messages or pictures to confront players and parents to try and fix the problem. 2/2
-
I think everybody is having similar issues...
-
If you have a prospect or aspiring college player their parents need to be made aware of the seriousness of this issue.
-
How do you educate your players at Duke about proper use?
-
-
John Mitchell DBs Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. Sorry 4 the late chime, feedin the kiddos & watchin "Dual Survival".
-
Parents need to be proactive as well!! They have as much to lose as the child

-
we talk to them about it regularly and monitor it by position. Our recruiting office and grad assistants help out as well.
-
Its such a huge part of life now, we have to start talking about it daily, just like other character issues
-
-
We see kids getting set up for a fall on social also - taking out the competition rather unethically. https://t.co/lT2CToT0mz

It's also important that they don't repost or retweet inappropriate material. It raises questions about who they really are.

Education needs to start in Middle school. I think as a whole we don't do enough to educate about the process.

I tell kids B careful what U say on social media, Bcuz anyone can C it & that can put U N a bad circumstance.
-
Prospects should treat their social media pages like a job resume because we do.
-
Yes sir! We meet with players & parents to educate about social media. Can be a great tool, or detriment.
-
Previously I have liked what coachaubry does a great job of setting an expectation for his players.
-
I focus in the DMV and I will be heading to youth practices and JVs to get these kids ready for the scouts and coaches.
-
Heard a coach at a clinic that has a social media coach that the kids must have as a follower if they have an account. Any site
-
We need to also limit the "sharks" that are swimming in these recruiting waters. Teaching kids to use free resources is key
-
No doubt! has a great social media policy and does a great job with educating his players https://t.co/6NFyejzGBk

I feel my social media is clean. However feel free to look at it and give me any pointers so i don't push the limits

I heard a great quote from a grizzled ole S. Ga. Coach, "the greatest indicator of future behavior is past behavior!

Coach Aubry is on of the best,
Anywhere. Great coach. Great man. Fact.
-
Kaleb, we'll run it in the morning . Just DM and remind us.
-
that's touchy...I have a policy of not following kids to maintain appropriate boundaries
-
-
THIS -> We preach the higher expectations of football players all the time...a recruit has even higher https://t.co/8z4vgyGfDY
-
-
Prospects must understand they are not like their peers. They are being observed at all times. They can't do what everyone does.
-
-
Are their anymore specific questions anyone has before we close?
-
I tell kids if U want 2 keep UR thoughts 2 URself don't put it on social media otherwise be prepared 4 whatever response U get!!
-
What advice do you have for coaches that will help us educate our players?
-
Thank you so much for your expertise with our student-athletes!
-
coach you guys do a great job. Keep up the fantastic work and hopefully we as coaches can keep our guys clean

Zach Kelley. DC at WH Adamson. Sorry I'm late. Putting the kids to bed was a struggle!
