A1 - I instill positivity by always remembering how important attitude is for learning. Even at those times where it’s easy to be negative, that’s when positivity is a game changer. Kids feed off of our energy and enthusiasm. #rethink_learning#teachpos
A1: Positivity is a culture built with mutual expectations of respect and appreciation. It transcends modeling and requires "the way" of the class to be steeped in all things positive. #rethink_learning
A1: Great question. From a math standpoint, I try to do a few things.
1) Celebrate the productive struggle. Have the class cheer someone on as they work through the problem.
2) Focus on growth mindset. The power of YET!
3) High Fives.
#rethink_learning
A1: Instill positivity by building Positive Relationships https://t.co/d3yAAHCDYE It is all about the relationships we build and grow. The better the relationships are at school, the happier and more productive students and teachers will be. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A1: I make sure my staff is happy, and have everything they need to provide an amazing learning experience for students ! We have lots of fun: we sing, laugh, and I even play guitar for them 🎸#rethink_learning
Can one instill positivity? Positivity is a tone that is set by the leader of the classroom ... one that students follow. I can't make someone be positive, but I can be positive and have them follow my lead. #rethink_learning
A1 positivity is best spread through building self-efficacy in Ss when they know that you believe in them and their abilities to becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Every day we say, ”I can, I shall, I will” #rethink_learning
A1: You have to model it! We are the culture that we wish to see. It starts with us. That is our power. Our power can change classrooms, schools, and even whole communities! #rethink_learning
It all starts with your disposition when you walk in the building. Start with a 😃. Greet your Ss as they walk in the building or class. Ask Qs and engage in honest convos (seriously). Make sure they know you ❤️ them! A well timed joke goes a long way #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A1 I have always found laughter to be the best medicine, especially in the classroom. Laughter makes the material more exciting to learn. #rethink_learning
When schools are positive environments, we are free of negativity that creates drama between students and staff. This opens the learning world up to growth and mutual learning. #rethink_learning

A1) The most effective way I've learned to create a positive classroom environment is getting to know my students. Last year, I offered after school tutoring for my Ss. I know it required extra time, but it was worth it. #rethink_learning
A1: We have Kindness Journals where we jot down acts of kindness we see or do or document things that bring us joy! We even have a page to #CelebrateMonday! #rethink_learning
I teach in a faith based school so talking with my students about how much they are loved by God is a game changer in the positivity dept. @FranciscanU#rethink_learning
positivity with the kids ... does not require a bunch of time or effort ... just be there and support them ... even kids who you do not teach will catch your positive vibe and want to be around you. #rethink_learning
A2 - Students gain a never quit, positive mindset. While it doesn’t happen in a day, over time the changes are real and dramatic. We model and students follow our lead. This is universal in many situations. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A2: Students are constantly watching to see if what we say matches how we act towards others. By showing kindness in all we do, we show students they can, too! #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A2~
~they learn to look for the good in all we do & give the not so good a nod & move on ...
~gives the kids ways to build resilience during those bumps in the road
~positive people are so joyful to be around
~a smile creates wall less communities
#rethink_learning
A2: Students begin by seeing the value of being positive. It is liberating to the learner's soul. It teaches them to be who they are, create, and love learning without negative consequences. #rethink_learning
A1 I try to be positive each day, set the tone by welcoming Ss in, play some fun music, lift the moods and have some energy going to spread the positive #rethink_learning

A2: One of the skills I want my students to learn is that it is ok to make a mistake, that's how we learn. It's all about how we react to the mistake.
I make it a point to model this for my students, sometimes intentionally making errors.
#rethink_learning
The biggest takeaway is Ss know that although we have bad days (BC of everyone does) we don’t let those tough days define us. We get up again and keep coming back BC it’s what is best and what is right! They can do hard things and we can model that! #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A2b: Students become more patient in a positive learning world. They are more forgiving and helpful, more appreciative and complimentary, more courageous and and daring. #rethink_learning
as a middle school teacher i spend a lot of time trying to convince kids they can do more than they think they can ... rebuilding damaged confidence. #rethink_learning
A2: The skills students we hope they gain by positive actions: empathy, compassion, kindness, joy, happiness, and a love for learning. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
my schools, the Ss always enter to upbeat music in the morning and after lunch....sometimes I see Ss singing and dancing along...what a great way to start your day! #rethink_learning

A2) Ss are always watching your moves and actions. I work with MS students, and they are always testing your patience. When teachers keep their cool, talk positively, and are active listeners. It helps them learn to channel their emotions in a positive way too. #rethink_learning
A2 when ss feel support, encouragement, and positivity it helps them take risks and grow as learners. When they know that we are proud of their effort and not just the results it makes it easier to try knowing that we are there for them #rethink_learning
A2 When students know that you are more interested in loving them then giving them a grade, then they have the freedom to make mistakes and grow. #rethink_learning
A2~
Ss also learn to work with a wide array of styles, personalities, & focusing on the positive while doing so, breeds collaboration and there seems to be less division in groups b/c of the laughter, lightheartedness of the collective group 😊❤️
#rethink_learning
believing in your kids is important ... creating an opportunity in which the kid can succeed creates a positive vibe that can be built upon. #rethink_learning
A2- I think your students can learn so much from your positive actions because students look up to us as role models so whatever we do we should lead by example so they can also lead by example to their peers #rethink_learning
The little things we do make the biggest difference. For you @LevineWrites
1. Smile
2. Music
3. Greetings
4. Laughter
5. Feedback that’s genuine
6 Enthusiasm that is real and caring. #rethink_learning
A3 - culture change at all levels must be by a broad coalition of stakeholders. Our job is to provide tools and words that other colleagues can embrace and follow. This again isn’t a one and done process. Focus on small changes first, then build from there. #rethink_learning
A3: Here are 6 Ways for Teachers to Spread Intentional Positivity. https://t.co/oKgPWHpp5A … Something happens to you when you focus on being positive. It changes you and your brain. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A3: I have noticed that the quickest and most successful way to create a school-wide culture is to have consistent and intentional lessons, trials, and practice. It may sound silly, but it teaches students outcome expectations immediately. #rethink_learning
A3: get entire school involved in a global project, show them how to be social change agents as a community; divide Ss across grades into "houses" and participate in Spirit Days and other community building activities. #rethink_learning
Hello. My name is Natalie and I’m a principal in Toronto. I believe in the power of positivity! Even created a new hashtag for your school to create pride in all of us! #rethink_learning
A3: If you can get enough key people bought in to a positive culture, the positivity will be contagious.
Any stragglers will jump on board, or be so annoyed that they will transfer.
#rethink_learning
Celebrate the small things like you do the large things but don’t water it down with the entire school community. Make sure you live your mission statement. Be “all in” for your students. Smile!...it’s contagious! #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A3: It starts with intentional and deliberate focus on creating opportunities for folks to show positivity towards others. This builds momentum. Then just like brushing your teeth, you have to do the work. Every day. #rethink_learning
A3: If you can get enough key people bought in to a positive culture, the positivity will be contagious.
Any stragglers will jump on board, or be so annoyed that they will transfer.
#rethink_learning
A3 engage in conversations and make time to connect, take notice when someone needs a liftup, have school events, we do spirit week, team building #rethink_learning#teachpos
A3; involve parents more...send home postcards, invite them in for chew and chats, invite them to talk about their strengths, talents, and work w/ Ss., make + phone calls home, get parents involved in global projects.. #rethink_learning
A3) Everyone has to actively be on board with being positive, uplifting, & engaged in the building. Being engaged with administration, colleagues, and the students. If everyone is working towards a common goal, then the culture will likely change for the better. #rethink_learning
A3: Building a positive culture starts day one. Get to know each student, spend time at least a few weeks building culture and celebrate each and every child. Spending time listen, really listen. #rethink_learning#Teachpost
A3: Leave positive messages around the school for teachers and encourage Ss to do the same! Our Ss also made Kindness cards Ts can use to share joy with others! #rethink_learning#teachpos#tlap#passionforkindness
Hello. My name is Natalie and I’m a principal in Toronto. I believe in the power of positivity! Even created a new hashtag for your school to create pride in all of us! #rethink_learning
A3: We are in our second year of implementing a positive behaviour program. It has had quite an impact on school culture - both for students and staff 👍🏻 #rethink_learning
A2: My students, staff, and parents see me finding ways to make things work, getting excited about learning, and being part of a team. As a leader, I believe my positivity helps set the tone of the school. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A3b) At our school, we have also chosen to buy into the Ron Clark philosophy. Making a deliberate decision to have a positive culture has been amazing.
We did the Amazing Shake a few weeks ago, and the response from the students and staff has been amazing.
#rethink_learning
Hawthorne Elementary School fifth graders have been participating in “The Amazing Shake,” a competition started by the Ron Clark Academy (@mrronclark_) to teach kids skills they will need as they enter the workforce. Take a look at how well they’ve done!
A3b: I like the idea of the positive words. I can see making permanent posters of the top 20-positive words and posting them in the hallways for expected use. #rethink_learning
A3: build relationships, greet Ss, pronounce their names correctly, make it a point to touch base w/ at least 5 Ss a day, have community circles, allow Ss to lead them, let them lead Twitter chats and other school activities. Let them choose extra curriculars #rethink_learning
A1: I instill positivity by smiling, celebrating, respecting, loving, encouraging, supporting, and by being able to laugh at myself.😁 #rethink_learning
A2: Students will most likely gain the skill of engagement. They will feel comfortable and safe, which will kindle their curiosity and motivate them to want to participate in the learning process. #rethink_learning
Ponder this: A positive class will always help change culture for the better. It’s a contagious type of learning in the best possible way. Even those hard to reach kids will benefit from a room built around positive energy. #rethink_learning#Teachpos
A3 start by creating a climate of positivity and then it will become part of your culture. Once the positive wave starts it will keep up its momentum and your whole culture will shift #rethink_learning
A3- to create a school wide culture around positive words and actions you as an educator must display these words and actions you want your students to replicate and hopefully your students can follow your lead and help build the right culture #rethink_learning
Thank you to all the awesome educators who were positive today in #rethink_learning chat especially our guest host @Shapiro_WTHS and my co-host @raspberryberet3 - Hope you join us next week on Monday 12/17 on Divergent Ed with guest host @Froelichm
Relationships just as you all said. Culture over strategy! Check out the @PosProject as this is a great program we added to our PBIS. Huge focus on how we treat people! #otherpeoplematter#rethink_learning
A3: At one of my previous schools I did just that. I walked into a new school as their new principal and had to work very hard to turn around a staff that had been oppressed by forced compliance and micromanagement. I started by building relationships. #rethink_learning
A3 You need a smile on your face and a tough skin to BE the Change! Believe in what you are trying to accomplish, persevere, and others will eventually see what you have and want it. Positive words and actions are contagious. #rethink_learning
To uplift my students, I had the parents write their child an encouraging note during the beginning of the year open house. I told the parents I could give it to their child when I encountered them having a bad day during the year. #rethink_learning
A3: Lead by example: Be polite and kind. Notice and name the positive. Celebrate the good with announcements, incentives, calls home for students. Find ways to build community. Create a school hashtag #WeAreWilcox#rethink_learning#Teachpos
