Nothing formal #bfc530
However they are constantly reminded to get a book.
Plus we have an amazing librarian who can hook students into just that book that suits them.
Gm. The last 15 min. Can be used for reading by s. At, times a s can opt out for the class period to read his book choice and complete supporting assignments #BFC530
I expected my students to have a book with them at all times. Any time they finished something early, they could read, and I'd often give them reading time at the beginning or end of class. Other Ts knew they had books and would do the same. #bfc530
I wouldnt say that the dose is daily but I do emphasize it. I open class with a slide show of the class activities, upcoming assignments, etc. I always include this slide of my daughters. #bfc530
A: teaching social studies means a great deal of reading anyways. I try to get items that interest them daily, EX biographies of people they want to know more about. #bfc530
Most of our classrooms have designated time to read. I do my best by doing into the classrooms to read to them. I also have books displayed on my mobile desk and try to find 30 minutes where i read for myself in a spot Ss, & Ts, see me modeling reading. #bfc530

Gm, last 15 min. A S can choose to read. At times, a s can opt out of assigned class work for the day and read his book choice independently while completing a supporting assignment #BFC530
In US History we read everyday ... in my tech classes it is not quite so obvious ... there is a lot of student finding out how to do things on the Internet and that requires reading #bfc530
Where I student taught years ago, they had a "Drop Everything And Read" where EVERYONE in the building had to read, from principal to maintenance. No meetings were scheduled in that time. #bfc530
I support reading time outside my class by book talking with them casually I’ve had familiarize myself with urban dramas in order to keep current. #BFC530
I have also found that having a classroom library helps those “closer readers” find something to read. Always see kids perusing the books then asking can I take this book home ... even the ones who don’t want others to know they read. #bfc530
I’m very lucky to be in a school of readers! Some students come and check out a new book each day—and they read them because we talk about them. My goal now is to add more of what they like & get them to try new authors/series. #bfc530
Literacy across all content areas-Ss read in every class, and reading is a priority-offering comfy spots to read, hosting “Battle of the Books”, and we have incredible media centers! #bfc530 😊 👍
I would say same. Teaching business & technology my kids have to read, but not novels. With my Pride club we have made an #LGBTQ library in my room for us to share:)

We had the same for a couple years every Friday. Then the extra period morphed into daily to include time for homework help and reteaching, and then Ts encroached on the reading time for reteaching, and it disappeared. Too bad. I loved it. #bfc530
In HS science we read all sorts of material. I intentionally work in a variety of genre, some are longer than others, in every unit (not daily) #bfc530
We also have a school wide summer read program that has won awards so I'm guessing it's pretty good:)
All kids and staff read same book or group of books.

I get annoyed by the pressure to “level” the text to the kid reading level ... I’m like the World is NOT level set ... we have to stretch the reading with complex text. You don’t get better by doing the same. #bfc530
We also make time for students to read aloud in front of their classmates. We celebrate 1st timers with a dance party at the end of the day- now it's so popular we had to make a sign-up sheet #bfc530
My two would come home and say they are not allowed to read something. Made me nuts. I of course told them they can read what ever they want!
Hello!

We used to do that in my former school. Even though I haven’t seen any research to support it, I think it’s important to show kids that we are readers as well. #bfc530
Totally agree! We had tons of support for the protected reading time initially, but staff changed, Ts new to the school weren't in on the original initiative, those who didn't like it from the start found excuses. Important to have school buy-in and also admin support! #bfc530
My leadership class get class time to complete the assigned readings. So not daily but close .
My computers class reads a lot of websites and articles online.
And I have a few Ss that given a spare moment in class whip out their own book to keep reading. 📖

A8: Twitter has been a game changer in terms of the learning. Let’s spend less time debating how it should be used and realize that it’s A resource. Not THE resource. Use it how you want and grow...we lead learning organizations, people. Let’s lead the learning in them. #suptchat
I get a lot of OMG ... you have this book ... I love this ... also because I am in the FabLab I help kids build bookshelves for their books ... like this young lady ... she no longer has to keep her books in a diaper box. #bfc530

As a parent of a former struggling reader, I saw the value of book choices at a variety of reading levels, accessible to all students. Of course, there are also times when all students need to read and access the same content/book. #bfc530
I am only speaking to level setting the text in my curriculum during class time. Reading books on their level for pleasure is a different story but I also trying they should not be restricted by their reading level #bfc530
As a math teacher, I have about 10 minutes to read to my 1st period students before they head off to special area. I normally focus on reading a few Newbery's throughout the year that I enjoy. I always start with "A Long Way from Chicago" by Richard Peck. #bfc530
We have a lot of word problems we try to work through. This is it. This made me realize I could do @GraphOfDay to have students read and analyze. Ss forget to analyze a graph by reading labels first then left to right find trends, up to down for trends. #bfc530
