HI! Abby from Boston - pumpkin coffee from the Fineagle a Bagle chain - do they have those where you are?
That's what I'm talking about. Pumpkin pie! That's were pumpkin spice belongs
A1 physical space is always a barrier. My classroom is small, my numbers are big, and my plans for the room are even bigger!
Well, I’m a purist. I like pumpkin, no spice.
I even back my own pumpkin, that I get from the farmers mkt or field. And make a gingersnap crust.
Hi everyone! Jon from Brooklyn. Enjoy spreading UDL around NYC and along Island with . Pumpkin spice latte!
Would love to try gingersnap crust
A1: I design for outcomes I want to see first (or mostly) but I'm really focused on engagement strategies.
A1- We always think about barriers when designing tech PD. Time is a big one for all teachers.
Soooo many new people on the ! Be sure to follow each other make those connections on the twiterwebs into powerful PLNS!

A1: I try to begin with empathy. Understand my learners, try to anticipate barriers. Not always easy, but it’s better when I do.
A1: Walking the tightrope between 2 few and 2 many options. Begin with a needs assessment developed with those I serve
I first assess the needs and the end goal
Not overwhelming my students (struggling university juniors & seniors) with tech options. Most are not super tech savvy!
Great to see so many folks out for tonight's . Welcome to all who are new or returning. Remember to follow and grow your
Fantastic! Enjoy! https://t.co/yWQGuevUeR

a1) I'm exploring the framework of Toolset, Skillset, and Mindset... developing each & in partnership
That's just AWESOME! Begin with EMPATHY. https://t.co/SSL9UobwDr
A1: I try to begin with empathy. Understand my learners, try to anticipate barriers. Not always easy, but it’s better when I do.
Considering the challenges or barriers first provides a solid starting point in creating a plan of support.
I'd like to know more about Toolset and Skillset. Words of yours? Or something I've not heard about YET?
Exactly! What kind of assessment do you do?
Welcome, Heather! Glad you could join
A1 I think it is very important to get an idea of how Ss feel about their learning & self esteem. For so many failure is too common
I can't agree more! Same here! A1 https://t.co/ppaDdTrc2F
A1- We always think about barriers when designing tech PD. Time is a big one for all teachers.
Tina Greene, BCSC. Pumpkin hmmm
A1: 1st:Ss interests and aversions. Where are the experts? Struggle with prep in advance of Ss. Difficult to design without them.
Yes! Design WITH the student! https://t.co/wXwYiWn6Xo

This is why I am designing a PD website with short 10 minute videos for Tchrs to watch
. So glad you enjoyed it! Fantastic review!
It goes back to how we have to win the student’s heart before we can win their mind for learning
I'm sure we'd all love the link when it's ready. https://t.co/aow9BNVlmJ

I feel like that needs a big AMEN!
Alright lets get ready for Q2. Great thinking moving out there...
Flexible options for seating. Intentional design to match instruction. Careful what is visually displayed=meaningful and necessary
Q2) How do the UDL guidelines & principles aid or work with the process of design thinking?
A1- barriers. What might hinder engagement.
a1) Be a fly on the wall. Listen. Observe. The hardest part of design thinking is DEFINE. Don’t to jump to solutions…yet!
A2 They should really support each other~ making learning & thinking accessible for all learners!
A:2 It can be the framework
Had to pause for some 15th anniversary stuff. What'd I miss :-)
A2) I think the G&P hold the space for design. They provide the skillset to build the tools which develop the mindset
a2) I like to do a sweep of potential barriers (across the guidelines) and use them as “How might we…” brainstorm questions.
A2) Principles and guidelines help to plan options/support/scaffolding for everyone.
A2: guidelines frame the process, just like any other learning process. Keeps our focus on learner variability
YES! YES! YES! Build the POV. Weave the empathy and narratives into a UX!
Design w/the goal in mind, allow for flexibility & variability in learning. & from T's ignite engagement
A2 the guidelines drive everything I do. If something feels "off", I go back to them.
Both & focus on needs of learners. Create res. 2 meet all needs + Use res. 2 create opp. = Learning to the max
So amazing to meet you today, ! Looking forward to our design thinking this year!
A2: L's access infrmtn and represent info using multiple means; increases points of connection. Feedback loop offers structure.
Hey Y'all This is Poppin'! keep it going by using the hashtag 24/7! Naytime you're talking about design or variability!

Q3) How can a designer avoid design bias as they develop their learning design? How does UDL help us recognize our own design bias?
You are killing it tonight so many at the I bet this isn’t the place to say go OHIO STATE Football!
a3) That’s easy. Put your experiment/prototype in front of learners. They will set you straight on any perceived notions or bias.
So great to hear--thanks for sharing, ! There is something magical when and merge!
First time at the and just reading & learning…but man, am I learning a lot.
Hey give a follow! She's new to the
A3: Even acknowledging that I have design bias is a starting point. Record myself, review, ask others for feedback. Be honest
A3: Self-ref. shows u what u are, asking Qs of your Ss tells u what u need to be 4 them. Listen/revise/revist/rewind/reflect/design
a3) Hmm. How does UDL help us recognize our own design bias? Good question!
Thanks!! Glad to be learning more about UDL tonight.
A3: Avoid design bias by continuing inquiry; continuing learning. Reflect, repeat. The design evolves.
Thank you! I appreciate this! The more people I can connect with the better! https://t.co/V08VaPbWUj
Hey give a follow! She's new to the
A3) Considering variability of Ls and intentional with delivery of content and skill building with supports and options!
always feel free to join right in. 24/7 here at the
Design bias. Amazing idea. Example?
Amen. Those learners will let you know RIGHT AWAY! The trick-knowing exactly what caused any educational malfunctions
A3: Track way you embed guidelines in lessons. Reflect on patterns. Make sure balance of 3 principles in action
metaphor--build a house that is accessible to all but when occupants move in we have flexible options to customize to make a "home
The idea that all children want to sit on yoga balls, or that all Ss want to collaborate.
Be sure to follow your new friends and buddies for your
Helpful example of design bias. Thank you!
Makes me think of how I like to do things and options that I prefer aren't the ways others may prefer...
