#2ndchat is a Twitter hashtag that can be used to chat, collaborate, and grow with other second grade educators from around the world. Every other week we will discuss a different topic. It's a great way to help grow your PLN (Professional/Personal Learning Network) and share ideas with others.
Good evening!! I’m Amber from Kansas, and I teach K-5 technology. I will be slow chatting as I am getting ready to head to a hair appointment! #2ndchat
Q1: What changes will you implement this upcoming year concerning feedback? (ideas from Chapter 9 or other ideas) Tech Coaches- how do you help your teachers with this? #2ndchat
A1 I really like the idea of using bitmojis in feedback. Also, using the comments on google docs to leave comments. Did that some last year, but would like to do more. #2ndchat
A1: I want to set aside a time that I dedicate to feedback on digital project (like Docs & Seesaw) & I want to create instant feedback with Google Sheets activities! #2ndchat

#2ndchat Peg from PA; We don't return until Sept. 4th, but want to try to use the G Suite more this year. Last year was rough and we abandoned G.Classroom, but I can see some things I'd love to try. Spreadsheets for sure!
A2: The ways we could use this activity is ENDLESS! I want to do this early on to help teach my kids to insert images and start learning about feedback! #2ndchat
I love the ability of technology to SPEED up feedback! Ss can receive feedback as they are struggling, not 2 days later. I want to add a reflective piece this year, and one where others can reflect on their reflection! #2ndchat
A2: I’ve used activities like this to help students learn how to cut/copy/paste using both keyboard shortcuts and mouse clicks. This would also be helpful in learning how to add images! #2ndchat
A1: the changes that I will incorporate more google docs during writing time and providing real time comments and feedback. Also using FlipGrid and doing more small group instruction #2ndchat

A3: Google Docs makes it SO easy to share and collaborate for lesson plans or ideas. I have this #2ndchat group, a group of 2nd grade teachers in my district & my team to share ideas with!
A3 not much in the past, however, just made a google sheet for lesson plans that my partner and I can (hopefully) collaborate with! 🤞🏼 If not, at least I have an awesome template and I was able to share it with @swkreed 😬 #2ndchat
A3: I think the best way to collaborate on lessons is through a solid PLN. It could be in your school, but my favorites PLN is my #2ndchat family. You have to find your tribe of people that share the same teaching philosphy as you do. The ideas will flow!
A3: plan to collaborate using a mixture of Google Sheets Drives and Docs. Gsuite allows to have access to anything at finger tips but also divi up workloads equally. Love it. Excited to try @MCPopTeach new template. #2ndchat
One of my teacher friends uses Google Calendar for his lesson planning. Able to embed drive files and share with colleagues. Suited his work flow #2ndchat
A3: Shared drives are great between teaching teams to co-plan and share lesson ideas. You can do this globally too...not just in the confines of your classroom #2ndchat
I’m sure learning would be 10x better. Have not used the LP yet, love it, but worried it’s time consuming. Would love to try it for one or two main lessons for the week #2ndchat
A3 I use comments and @GoogleKeep to collaborate with others in my department. Anything I can share and allow others to comment on saves me time. #2ndchat@missmac100
My group that meets from my district in person is just amazing. We meet every month. I wish my #2ndchat could meet in person once a month! How amazing would that be?
A4: I have not but I like the concept of using communicatoin, collaboration, critical thinkang creativitiy in designing lessos...the template she provides on page 113 is useful too especially for new teachers starting off #2ndchat
A4: I think it would help to make everything we do be intentional in making learning and presenting mirrored to the real world. I definitely think that it would need proper support and more planning time to actually work. #2ndchat
A4 I did use the 4c’s with my last class in lesson planning (different format). I need led the accountability that I was purposefully using them. #2ndchat Now I make sure all district trainings have them. @missmac100
A4) We used https://t.co/2VrwAtBiig. Eaisly could collaborate and enjoyed the format. Also used Google Drive and how easy the land of google was. And https://t.co/VoEwaZb71a was so simple to share in collab too! #2ndchat
A5: I use a google Doc. I know a lot use Seesaw for their weekly newsletter in the notes part because it can translate in different languages. BUT you can't add images to the notes part. :( #2ndchat
A5 part 2: learned how to make a personalized newsletter with notes about each student and either email to parents or print, but not sure if I’ll use this year due to such a LARGE number of parents who don’t speak/read English. #2ndchat
A5: I just made a simple template in Google Docs and it's easy to update. I include a little note, links to fun site, bullet points listing what we are learning, & important dates. #2ndchat
A5: For my newsletters I actually use @sway as its extremely easy and looks great! It makes for SWAY-tastic newsletters! #2ndchat Here's an example: https://t.co/WNrEcqFkSM
Did you share the doc? Or e-mail? Or post to a google site? I really sent "update emails," but would like to make a template for a newsletter for this year. #2ndchat
A5 #2ndchat I communicate with Class DoJo and Seesaw...more short/sweet communications, rather than a newsletter. Parents have told me they like that since it's shore....they read it!
A3) I use SeeSaw as my communication tool. I send home messages to parents with clickable links to videos of what we are learning, or activities for the kids to practice. Because I get data so quickly I message them when their Ss are still struggling BEFORE the test! #2ndchat
A5: When I was in the classroom, I used Word for fancy fonts and told parents about weekly learning targets, upcoming events, and wrote a little note about our week or had the kids help me write about our week. #2ndchat
A5: As a coach, I"m working on developing a blog of gathered upcoming ideas for global connections and back to school that teachers can immediately implement into their classrooms as I introduce myself. I hope to keep it up through the year to support teachers. #2ndchat
A6 #2ndchat I use parent helper forms. I love that it eliminates the paper. I had used Docs for a table to fill in what they could bring for a party, BUT so many don't have the app and have trouble filling that out.
A6: I used forms for my interviews/inventories that I conduct with students at the start of the year. I actually input the information as I am speaking to them to make it go quicker. Each one does take time but its worth getting to know each student and plan accordingly #2ndchat
Never give up on parents that might have difficulty with the speaking or reading of english. Try to translate. If you end up not being able to translate, most families know someone that can help them read it. #2ndchat
A6: I use Google Forms to collect contact info. I also have a survey I ask the parents to complete about their child. I love having it at my fingertips at all times. Parents like the ease of not having to write it out! #2ndchat
A3 some great ways to collaborate are using free & easy technologies like @flipgrid or try @buncee that also has a free option. To get your class collaborating think about incorporating my K-4 writing contest this fall https://t.co/fibPJsCjs7#2ndchat
A6: Right now I'm using forms to build an assessment to see what knowledge base my teachers have with technology use in the classroom. When I was a teacher, I would use forms in the beginning of the year to collect parent personal data and to survey Kid interests. #2ndchat
A6 haven’t yet but want to make a student getting to know you questionnaire. Would love to make one for parents instead of paper forms but not sure how much tech is available at home & language barrier. Teaching in a low SES school & high ESL pop so it can be challenging #2ndchat
A6 I can see Ts starting the year with Stident interest surveys, Parent volunteer forms, and @MsVenturino has a form she uses for a daily check in with Ss. It’s AMAZING ! #2ndchat@missmac100
A7 I prefer making paper anchor charts. I try to make most of it with the students, and haven't worked out how to do that digitally yet... I like having them posted in the room to use for reference. #2ndchat
A7: At the start of the year I find chart paper is easier until they become a bit more ditial savy. Using a gradual release of responsibility we move into digital...but I go back and forth. Trying to do more digital to help out the destruction of trees/ waste less paper #2ndchat
Hey #2ndchat a reminder to think about bringing my free writing contest into your classroom. Great collaborative project. Gets kids excited about writing! Check out my buncee! https://t.co/7MUam7oK51
Making a student questionnaire is on my list for August :) I was thinking of making one for parents, and having some chromebooks set up for parents at Sneak a peek. #2ndchat
A7: I used slides for my morning messages this past year. I'd do a week at a time. Easier than chart paper and no waste. Not a lot of wall space for paper. #2ndchat
A7: I do some paper anchor charts but started making digital ones and LOVE that I can quickly add a picture that looks nice, change colors. Then I can print it out and hang it up. It's smaller so it doesn't take up so much room. PLUS I hate my handwriting! #2ndchat
A7: One great benefit of a digital one you print is that if one gets ruined, you can just print another one! AND you can share it with parents or others! #2ndchat
A7 I like a mixture of both. Often I’ll make a duplicate in Slides or Drawings to share with them. Learning on the walls is a great skills to have but also individual resources online is important. #2ndchat
That's a good point. I can see moving from that to having students think through creating the chart with me. "How can we represent our thinking about...?" #2ndchat
A5) I create school wide news letters in G.Slides, then download as PDF. Teachers send TRACKABLE link home. ALL LINKS with additional info are clickable as EVERY cell has universal PDF reader. You can even put links on images! #2ndchathttps://t.co/YzoWFBhb55
Q8: I never thought about making ONE Google Sheet for ALL classroom roster needs during the year. What type of lists would you include in yours? #2ndchat
I have a Sheet for Roster (single) FN LN, FN, Full info, Parent contact info, my SPSO database user name/pass, award tracking etc #2ndchat#onesheettorulethemall
A8: I'm thinking having one spreadsheet with these tabs: one for each form I collect, field trip money, anything we have to collect for school, book conferences, basic academic info that's listable, kid's favorites, birthdays #2ndchat
A8 grades, assignment completions, reading level tracker, math fact tracker, fluency levels, field trip forms, behavior tracking, etc. so many uses! #2ndchat
A8 I have used one sheet and had a different tab for each Student to work on. It was amazing to see all work in one spot without opening so many documents. #2ndchat
