Q1-What are some of the biggest fears or challenges when implementing some new ?
A1: Is it going to work, or is it going to be a raging dumpster fire?
A1-Not enough time to thoroughly learn it.
A1: Asking "silly" questions or learning something new that will change when the next new thing comes along
A1: what works at home doesn't always work at school.
home Internet tends to be better than work Internet
oh we can, you just need to get the right job!
A1: Not understanding entire program or app has to offer
2-We always say learning can be fun, but is it for educators? Why or Why not? (think about professional development)
Q2-We always say learning can be fun, but is it for educators? Why or Why not? (think about professional development)
A1: Students knowing more than you do! Lol
A2: Good leaders structure PDE activities that go beyond the "lecture doesn't work for Ss" 7 hour long lecture
A2-Not the right culture for educators in my opinion. Too much pressure to learn new tech first time, little 2nd chances
A2: I think prof learning is super fun! Especially when it is on a topic that intetests me. Personalized PD!
A2: Good Ts also are responsible for structuring learning activities for Ss that can be fun, making it more fun for the T
A1 it won't work. All those eyes...
so true! Enlist students as Tech Support for your classroom and school!
A1- The Internet going down on the day that my lesson plan is based around using it or having a tech malfunction
A2:Edcamp is fun;conferences can be fun;even dept collaboration can be fun. It's about the right ppl & the right mindset.
Agreed! Sometimes it is scripted for the masses and becomes less effective.
Tweeting from my phone tonight - please pardon typos...eek
excuses are like belly buttons haha
yes! Notice that I am always having fun when the Ss are having fun!
A2: If it meets the needs of Ts and staff. Meaningful and personalized
A2: it should be because this is how we learn just like our Ss.
Yes and we can use that knowledge! Students love to help and teach
A2 - Comes down to genuine interest. Educators have to feel passion when it comes to PD and want to learn about it.
Q3-Currently, are you encouraged to learn something new regarding or is it in your professional growth? Why or Why not?
How can we make more teachers want to learn more about it? https://t.co/BdaxlZ41ra
A2 - Comes down to genuine interest. Educators have to feel passion when it comes to PD and want to learn about it.
A3: To me, it doesn't matter, I'm always trying to do something new with , regardless of my directives
A2 Key is that it has to be something T wants to learn about
I agree. If the Ts are passionate about the subject, Ss will pick up on it and start caring more. That makes it fun
A3-Always pushed myself to stay on leading edge of tech, leadership, etc. It's my driving force 2 be better than I was yesterday
Why I'm glad I teach US History, I know I love it, and if I start going off, at least the Ss know I love it
Empowering Ss is important. https://t.co/LJfb9IVlxN
Yes and we can use that knowledge! Students love to help and teach
A3: Feel like always learning in an online/blended school! Learning how to effectively implement and sustain is key
A3: Always interested. Want to learn more about GAFE since it's going district wide.
and using effectively, not just for the sake of using it to say that you are
Show its utility and how engaging it can be for them and Ss. Ts need a lot of convincing of usefulness
A3: Fun is taking an problem or puzzle and figuring it out!
How can we get more Ts to try new
A2-it can be fun if the presenter is cool. I've been introd to cool stuff but treated like an unruly student for talking to peers
A3: As a virtual T I'm constantly learning and changing how I use to reach my Ss. Cutting edge!
Ts lead PD, make sessions open, comfortable, a "no judgement zone"
yes and how to encourage Ts to learn on a topic needed but not of interest? Love to solve this one!
A4-Old school thinking and control by Administration...because they know what's best for teachers right? Hoping 4 personal PD!
Q4-Quality professional development can be done by networking(PLN), then why is PD still done internally at schools?
A3 - It's at the core of my Professional Growth. Tech will only grow, and I want to be ahead. https://t.co/n1jOscOfti
Q3-Currently, are you encouraged to learn something new regarding or is it in your professional growth? Why or Why not?
first of you need to get Ts to have an open mindset
lets make it happen send me a DM!!!
Biggest competition and bar to reach is our own self! https://t.co/1u0J6Hz7rf
A3-Always pushed myself to stay on leading edge of tech, leadership, etc. It's my driving force 2 be better than I was yesterday
Perhaps better question is how to make more relevant to more Ts
A3- I try new stuff regardless. At a CTA though, I feel like the expectation is greater for us. Or it was w/ our old leadership
Students know when a T loves the content!
Yes. We need to be more vocal on what PD should look like and be. No more status quo.
A4: a is great, but can be greater to spread the love and knowledge directly where it will make the impact, in your school!
A3: It is in my professional growth & keeping a growth mindset. Important to make sure Ss are ready for their future.
And how do we share this learning statewide? Should all Ts in Nevada have some GAFE knowledge? https://t.co/Wzmx4KGxne
A3: Always interested. Want to learn more about GAFE since it's going district wide.
How can we get our schools and/or districts to keep a growth mindset?
A3 I learn so much from all of you and others it's silly
will be pushing out info on our state conference very soon, we need more from outside to join us
A4: Easier to monitor but does not meet the needs of their Ts and/or Ss.
I would love to see a statewide PD using video chats. How cool would that be?
A4- I think it's due to old habits. Things change slowly in edu. It takes years for implementation to take place based on "data"
How can we overcome the barriers that some Ts have or schools have?
And more teacher created PD that fits the needs of our school! https://t.co/zrkex10BCF
Yes. We need to be more vocal on what PD should look like and be. No more status quo.
A4: PD can sometimes be micromanaged. Ts need to advocate for what they want and be proactive by offering to present.
I wish more Ts had this drive.
Q5-How would/could you implement a Playdate PD day at your school/district? (throw out ideas for us to think about)
That is great news! Would love to support in Northern Nevada!
yes Ts throughout the country should know about GAFE.
True story, I should be grading essays, but instead I'm taking part in .
And totally "doable" with all the resources available! Lets do it! https://t.co/RTTBjMR5LS
I would love to see a statewide PD using video chats. How cool would that be?
A5-Get Admin & School Leaders on board & demand it. Edu is really trial by error in some ways. Why not for PD and learning tech?
Absolutely! Who knows better than the T who is in the trenches every day
A5: approach admin about and other unconference formats, share experiences, conduct a small trial at a PD day
Shouldn't Ts make sure they are meeting their Ss needs? is relevant to our Ss.
A5-We've done it in the past when the admin let us control it. That's the best way for development to be handled by Ts for Ts.
They should, but old habits die hard. Not an excuse, but it needs to be considered.
A5: Playdates almost like action research. Ts pick a ed topic to play and experiment with. Collect data. Share. Learn.
A4: Internal PD can be great when done well. Foster a culture, community for learning. Keep it simple
Thank U for joining tonight’s on Playdate! (People Learning and Asking Y: Digital Age Teacher Exploration) by
Key word ...does have the right culture from top down?
Yeah well, I get to go over JFK and the Cold War, just as fun! but seriously, sweet, let us know how it goes!
A5: Would LOVE an all Nevada playdate! Lets share all the ed happening in all districts of this great state!
has talked about trying to do unconferences in Elko, Tonopah, Ely, Reno, Minden, Carson City basically all over
yes.. Admins NEED to be not just on board but learners themselves
Perhaps. It is helpful to tap into something really engaging for T rather tech for tech’s sake
Top down? Could be a problem. I would like to see top down support for bottom up ideas
Directives from the top are often times met with resentment, Ts need to be involved in the process
