CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
A1: I want to get back in the habit of using twitter chats for connecting with my PLN. I am also happy to say that I taught my Ts how to use Twitter in Aug. Now that they are tweeting regularly, I'm ready to teach them how to chat! #CatholicEdChat
A1: My biggest goal this year is to take better care of myself so that I can be more present for those who depend on me, at home and at school. It's a multifaceted goal. #catholicedchat
A1 My students and I wrote 4 goals. Mine were 1. Eat 4 to 5 fruits and veggies a day 2. Drink at least 32 oz of water a day 3. Keep my desk kind of clean 4. Read 50 books. #CatholicEdchat

A1 I set multiple goals each year. My Personal Plan Template is at https://t.co/UtbaDVhT1Y Professionally we all set goals with a colleague at the start of the year. #catholicedchat
I expected that, but I was pleasantly surprised how many hopped on board quickly. I still have some moving more slowly than I would like. I am finding that trying to understand their hesitation and supporting them by working with them one on one is the key. #CatholicEdChat
Q1: My goal is to grow my businesses. If anyone needs any editing, website creation/maintenance, graphics, or social media mgmt, please let me know! I'm also adding resources to my TPT store. @ShamandSun and @STFfulton#catholicedchat
Muy bien, @adkopp76. (I taught only Spanish at @BMHSMustangs for four years, then Spanish and theology for the next four, and only theology as of four years ago.) #CatholicEdChat
Thanks Joan. I have started a gratitude journal of sorts, am being more intentional about yoga, and journal each morning to get things going. Took this approach after reading this article: https://t.co/0fBiZ9bzUh#catholicedchat
#CatholicEdChat Karen from VERY cold Frederick, MD checking in! We started back to school on Tuesday and then had no school Thursday and delayed opening yesterday due to snow and cold.
i too have a "to read pile" and a "to purchase" list on amazon...never ending array of books #catholicedchat ; my problem is I want to read them in one sitting

A3 Depends what I need to be inspired about! Some of the great Saints-Francis of Assisi, John Baptist De La Salle, Mary under her title Help of Christians (Patron of Australia, Mary of the Cross MacKillop Then mentors, close friends, my PLN, etc #catholicedchat
Nice. I use the Panda Planner. Let's me set weekly goals then daily priorities w/ reflections on how it all went. Not sure if I am "crushing" goals but it does help keep me centered :-) #catholicedchat
Twitter only truly makes sense when you use it as PLN. So you have to get them to try it. I wish there was a 3 pm pacific chat to show in real time #catholicedchat

A2: Had one for the past year. Haven't been inspired with one for this year yet. Once I find mine, I'll probably find a way to have it as a daily reminder in my planner or on my desk somehow. #CatholicEdChat
This just came up in one of my @voxer groups. I actually created my own digital planner as I love my ipad. I thought about the Panda Planner but don't like that you have three different sections. I like everything in one place. Do you find it "clunky"? #CatholicEdChat
My word for 2017 was start. And I did - started three businesses! In 2018 my word is All In. Yes, I know that's technically two words. #MyWordMyRules 😂 Have to go All In to really get the businesses up and running and self-sufficient. #catholicedchat
A2 - one of the *surprises* of the break was my mother-in-law having emergency surgery & finding medical/rehab care for her. The one word that kept surfacing during all the worry was #onward. Taking it one day at a time & trusting God. So that's my word :-) #catholicedchat
Since many of you on #CatholicEdChat mentioned reading more, may I recommend my latest? @beingcatholic1 recommends it! Not to self-promote, but... I would not have written it if I had not wanted to share the message. 🙂 The first chapter is on the bishops' writings on education.
Agreed, I KNOW others don’t fully grasp the idea. We are a one class per grade school and an hour away from the next closest Cath school, PLN on Twitter could be an amazing resource for us all. #CatholicEdChat

Hi Jan, the colleague is designated, usually who you report to. Purpose is to try and align our Strategic Plan and Goals with Professional and Personal Goals. Mine is my Director, I have a team that I chat with and we review mid year and end year #catholicedchat
A1: I would like to help my school to embrace technology to engage and excite our students and to help the staff communicate and work more efficiently. #CatholicEdChat
Not really. The one I have has weekly and daily. It allows me reflect on the week past in light of the week ahead. On my best days (when I am not caught in the whirlwind), I cherish time to preview & review the day - I do prayerfully in Examen model. #catholicedchat
Yes! It's the positive mental health piece that I want/need to be more intentional about in order to better model for my own son and our students. #catholicedchat
.@BarbInNebraska, I love the black-eyed Susans (they are our state flower here in Maryland)! We McClains planted our first batch in the front of our house last summer, and they have done quite well. #CatholicEdChat
Oh yes! My spiritual director had me list 3 lights and 3 challenges in my journal every day. Allowed me to see patterns, things that capture my ability to be my best self (good and challenging). I use my planner in same way now. #catholicedchat
A2: I've just heard of this #oneword2018 in this chat. What a great idea! My word would probably be #TruthOrDareMovie I want to teach my Ss that there is definitely TRUTH in the world and not everything is just an opinion or preference! #catholicedchat
My #oneword2018 is TRUTH. I want my Ss to know that there are true statements and beliefs in the world and not just opinions and preferences! #catholicedchat
Agreed! Reflection is key to all that we do. I always reflect on my work, but am not as good giving that type of attention to my "life". Working hard to change that this year. #catholicedchat

A1: Surviving new GCSE and A Levels - everything will be so much better once first cohort are though!
A2: Not sure I can pick one word... probably #rest to take it where I can - I don’t always do this!
#catholicedchat
I forgot to plug my tablet in last night, my battery will die soon, and the kiddo is on my computer. Thanks for the reconnect. “See” you all soon I hope. #CatholicEdChat
A3: Inspiration comes from many places, but my number one go-to is my #PLN both here on @Twitter and in @voxer. Can't imagine doing anything without being connected anymore! #CatholicEdChat
Thanks for sharing! I may steal for our professional growth program :-) We all wrote goals, but in a static way. Do you find dialogue continues with a GDoc shared? #catholicedchat
A3 I am blessed in my role @NCEATALK to get to know and work with so many fantastic educators. I get a lot of inspiration from the work you all do! #CatholicEdChat
A3: Twitter and Pintrest of course. This may sound cheesy... but I often find inspiration when I visit my Ts classrooms and in my conversations with my Ts and even my Ss. #CatholicEdChat
A4: work goals are tracked as part of the evaluation process that we have. Personal goals have not been well cared for in the past. Thus my intentional focus to log, journal and reflect more this year. ;-) . #CatholicEdChat
Yes, @MrsSchramp! Our students in Catholic schools must know how to distinguish truth and opinion, in a world that sends them so many false messages from so many different angles. Opinions, of course, are situationally relevant, but we must help them discern that. #CatholicEdChat
My #oneword2018 is TRUTH. I want my Ss to know that there are true statements and beliefs in the world and not just opinions and preferences! #catholicedchat
A3: I find my inspiration in the sacraments. We are so blessed at @BMHSMustangs to have daily Mass in our chapel most weekdays. I try to go when I can. The scriptures also sustain me; I must read three chapters of the Bible daily to remain "spiritually afloat." #CatholicEdChat
A4 - Strategic goals on whiteboard in my office - public & constant dialogue. Professional goals weekly check-in w/ Principal. Class makes goals & revist every publication cycle. Personal & spiritual w/ & close friends. #catholicedchat
This is the website from Sydney Catholic Schools that explains our process. It connects to a number of other processes #CatholicEdChat (site is managed by our People & Culture Unit In HR)

A4: #CatholicEdchat. (Late as usual! Often my dad needs me on Saturday mornings...😊). I find the examen at the end of the day is a great way track my personal goals.
Agreed! When others know what you are working on, they can support you. Our entire Senior Administrative team shared our professional goals with each other at the start of the year. #CatholicEdChat
A3 When it comes to teaching goals getting feed back from Ss helps me. When it comes to health & personal goals, my husband is great w encouraging me & keeping me accountable #catholicedchat
A4 Having a community or trusted partner to stay accountable helps keep on track AND gives someone to celebrate with when you have successes 😀#CatholicEdChat
I was inspired by @beingcatholic1 to integrate the ideas of truth, beauty, & goodness in my teaching. Thanks, Jonathan! Using the transcendentals, but especially truth, helps form a narrative & purpose beyond "know this!" #catholicedchat

A5: #CatholicEdchat. I love what the Archdiocese of Atlanta sends out. @archatl. Very refreshing, and some in Spanish. I also use @BustedHalo with my students all the time - relatable Theology for teens. For universal design, @KatieNovakUDL is the star and so helpful.
A3. Ooh... one more answer before I go, though: listening to NPR gives me great inspiration! Not just TED Radio Hour, but also This American Life & all the different news stories@ #catholicedchat
A5: @Pontifex! My students remain incredulous that he has more followers (per his accounts in different languages) than any Hollywood celebrity, athlete, politician, or other prominent societal figure. Who else can achieve that, Tweeting once (POSITIVELY) daily!? #CatholicEdChat
Justin, that is a great point about his multiple accounts. I will have to point that out to our Spiritual Life teachers (though, they may already have figured that one out!) . #catholicedchat

I need your help, #CatholicEdChat. One of my goals for 2018 is to document the testimonials of converts (or reverts) to Catholicism, at the rate of one per day, sharing them via social media. If you can spare ten minutes, please e-mail me at justin.v.mcclain@gmail.com. Thank you!
