How can you miss this one?
A1: Surround yourself with experts and listen to them. Truly believe in collaboration - you cannot achieve greatness on your own...ever. Accept feedback and improve upon it. #MEMSPAchat
A1: Patience, Understanding and Supportive. It’s important for staff to feel safe when taking risks and trying new things to engage students. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Continue building my PLC, taking part in PD for leaders, seeking feedback from others, continually reading and practicing to get better #memspachat
A2: Always push myself, love MEMSPA PD opportunities: #LMChort9, #MEMSPAchat, BOOKS, BOOKS, and more BOOKS. I love learning from others too: other leaders, my teachers, and my students! #LoveLearning. :)
A2: I continually immerse myself in professional learning opportunities in areas that I need to grow in and those areas that I'm most possionate about. It is important for me to model lifelong learning for my staff and students #MEMSPAchat#lmcohort9
Hey #MEMSPAchat!!! Love that question!!!!
A2: We lead learning organizations. So...LEADING the LEARNING is essential. Model...share...reflect...follow up.
A2: I am not afraid to ask questions, VOLUNTEER to serve outside my district work, push myself to go outside of my comfort zone. audible while on the road, and of course #MEMSPAchat
A2: Constantly reading ("Read to Lead" @Syndee_Sue) and trying to state current with the trends. But, you must reflect on what you are reading and be prepared to take a risk with your new found knowledge. If you learn something new, make sure you share it. #MEMSPAchat
#MEMSPAchat & memspa help a ton. Like to read what others post that keep me thinking. @btenniswood is great at keeping us informed and learning new things like she did today on our county wide meeting. Listening to @VrainWaves as well.
A2: I'm pushing myself to learn from my mistakes, learn from feedback, and use data to help drive the direction and focus of my own professional learning. #MEMSPAchat
A2) #memspachat Read, read, read! Build your teams and relationships...get to know your community...and make sure you build in time for your personal family...
A2: Being involved in PD within our school. Had a curriculum review/adoption process meeting for ELA tonight and Essentials in Literacy trainings throughout the year. Builds my knowledge of what is needed. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Network & surround myself with Leaders I admire! Attend @MEMSPA conference/PD. Read, Twitter chats, really listen to people around me, accept and reflect on constructive suggestions from others, ask LOTS of Q's and learn from my mistakes! #MEMSPAchat
A2) Twitter helps filter resources and educational leaders to model. At school, I attempt to take advantage of every opportunity to help kids from coaching to committees.#MEMSPAchat
A3: I hope my teachers would say they feel empowered to make decisions, contribute ideas to all school initiatives and feel supported in the work they do. #MEMSPAchat
A3: Encourages professional growth...committees, conferences, and leadership positions. #MEMSPAchat Teacher leaders are critical! Shared leadership is key.
A3: I hope my team would say I am a relentless advocate for children - sometimes it means driving around town and even searching through Wal-Mart to make a parent contact! (btw- that was today) #memspachat
A3) I think my teachers would say I gave opportunities to lead, encouraged them to take on roles that may not have been in their wheelhouse . Teacher Leaders are the Bomb!!! #memspachat#wctlp
Can't do it without them!
A3: My hope is they would say this...They let us own our learning and when we know what that feels like it is easier to make it happen for students. #MEMSPAchat
A3: I'm proud to say that every teacher in my building possesses unique leadership qualities and talents. My hope is that they know how much I appreciate their voice, compassion and their dedication to changing the lives of children every day. #MEMSPAchat
A3: I provide them chances to be the leader. When they want things and I am not meeting their expectations, I allow them to take it on and lead. I want them to recognize their true capabilities. #memspachat
A3: I'd hope a few nuggets of inspiration are received throughout the year. We've worked hard to find/create leadership opportunities w/in the building. 943 Ss & 75 staff members, it's tough to locate opportunities for all staff.
#collectiveleadership#alwaystrying#MEMSPAchat
A3: It is part of my leadership vision to empower and encourage my team. I truly hope our teachers feel that support from me as they have the opportunity to contribute as leaders in our building in many different ways (staff spotlights, committee membership, etc.) #MEMSPAchat
A3: Look for the strengths in your Ts and what they are passionate about. Let them know it is important to take risks and if they fail it is OK too! #MEMSPAchat
I listen to a lot of business ones....I like to study leaders in and out of education. Entreleadership is a business one as is How I Build This, Cult of Pedagogy, and Shake Up Learning are good educational ones. ASCD podcast is another popular one. #MEMSPAchat
A3) Encourage risk taking and provide positive feedback when educators take chances for student learning. I was inspired to do more when my admin privately & publicly praised the work of the team. #MEMSPAchat
A3: I provide my team opportunities to take on new projects, committees, and encourage professional learning. I push them out of their comfort zone and have them serve on statewide committees. Most importantly...I trust them and they guide me. #MEMSPAchat
@BuckmasterKelly@ifireup@SISDInstruction Some podcasts: Better Leaders Better Schools, Cult of Pedagogy, Gratitude Podcast, Principal Center Radio, and others that are outside of education too. #MEMSPAchat
In reply to
@TCRyanSchrock, @BuckmasterKelly, @ifireup, @SISDInstruction

A4: I’m part of an RCIA team which teaches adults. My K-12 experience helps ground discussions on why it’s important to be motivational and tie learning to real world experience. #MEMSPAchat
A4. I've owned a DJ business for 21 years. It's helped me understand the importance of knowing who your customers are and what they need in order to deliver quality service. (Plus it's a ton of fun!) #MEMSPAchat
A4: Used to be our youth group leader, currently on the board for our 4-H Maker Space and Alcona Helping Hands. These groups help support kids in a variety of “non” academic ways. This helped me to understand the whole child and get a better perspective! #MEMSPAchat
A4b: I think it is important to volunteer and support in various leadership roles outside of work so that you can gain a different perspective. Great question!! #MEMSPAchat
A5: Once you find peoples strengths, it makes it easy to play off of their strength and support them in those roles. Leaders will always step up and do what needs to be done. Give them the ball and let them RUN! #MEMSPAchat
A4: Youth sports coach for flag football, basketball, baseball, and Ninja Warrior!! Love to see how kids respond, adapt, and grow with positive reinforcement! Everyone needs to know that someone else believes in them!#MEMSPAchat
A5: As a new principal, I worked hard to tap into teachers in the building who weren't always in leadership positions. I try to strategically build leaders by tapping into different strengths in the building. #MEMSPAchat

A5: Encourage others to lead at school improvement, staff meetings, have teacher leaders take on acting admin in my absence, find others strengths and encourage them to share and lead. #MEMSPAchat
A5: Encourage teachers to serve in roles that highlight strengths and passions. Give them the opportunity to showcase the great things happening in their classrooms and share with colleagues. Students apply for leadership roles throughout the building, as well. #MEMSPAchat
A4: I am a part of our Worship Band & help lead our youth group. This influences me most by keeping me grounded & focused on the real reason I’m on the job - or anywhere- to show people the love of Jesus by the way I treat them, believe in them & support them #memspachat
A5: We have different committees, PBIS, Leader In Me, Green Team, Safety Patrol, Students Council and a Building Leadership Team. I try to empower my teachers by giving them the autonomy necessary to be successful in these roles! #MEMSPAchat
A5: We have a new role, "Student Success Coach (PBIS Coordinator) who leads all things PBIS in our school. I focus on those who have the goal to build positive relationships. To me it is the foundation of all things. #MEMSPAchat

A5: I let my teacher leaders chose what they want to lead based on their strengths. I will encourage them when opportunities come up. Grade level, PBIS, social justice, our culture and transition team #MEMSPAchat

A5. Talent management starts with matching your school's needs to the talent and passions within your staff. From there, it grows from a shared vision, clear direction, and lots of trust and autonomy. #MEMSPAchat
A5: My consultants are provided opportunities based on their skill sets, interests, and roles within the ISD. I require that that serve in a higher capacity outside the ISD - but when they are ready. Just the other day I heard "I am ready coach...put me in:)" #MEMSPAchat
A5: Many times, other leadership positions stem from people wanting a bigger purpose and matching their strengths. I am fortunate and proud to work with many leaders. #MEMSPAchat
A2: truly the primary way I do this is MEMSPA! From the connections to the conferences, leadership Matters to Leveraged Leadership... i love reading research & working on my own skills & knowledge, but the networking & support through MEMSPA is what makes it real #MEMSPAchat
A6: my mentor from Royal Oak, Zoe Marcus, taught me the importance of direct communication with staff. I always try to model that with my staff. I am a better leader because of Zoe! #MEMSPAchat
Q6) @galileoleaders has instilled the importance of Reading to Lead and reflecting on the end of the day by journaling. My HS teacher Mr. Chaffee instilled my gratitude notes that go out each Thursday...years of notes! #memspachat
A6: I learned from my mother, not a principal, to give tokens of appreciation: food, treats, notes, etc. I learned from @cvannatter_wisd to make student-based decisions rather than adult-comfort based decisions. #MEMSPAchat
A6: QTIP (quit taking it personally) can’t make everyone happy, designate tasks, be open and genuine, build trust from the first conversation. #memspachat

A6: Relationships, relationships, relationships! Remembering that we're in education for all kids - not just those in our building/care. So thankful for wonderful mentors (@mccreah10@SSpickard@debbiemcfalone) and colleagues that I've met in #lmcohort9#MEMSPAchat
A6. Perception is everything and your lens will change over time. My favorite mentor always said, "The more you learn about the world, the more interesting it becomes, and the more interesting YOU become." #MEMSPAchat
A6: She wasn’t a leader except in my family, but my mother always said to be humble and kind. Those attributes I’ve tried to practice my whole life. #MEMSPAchat
A6: @briankblackwell learns the name of every student in our school (1000+). He studies that yearbook all summer. When he greets Ss in the hall by name with a 👊, their faces light up. Let Ss know you see them. Our motto-You belong here!#MEMSPAchat

A7: The person with the “title” is one with all the answers. WRONG! As a leader my job is to remove obstacles to others can solve problems and lead. #MEMSPAchat
A7: I knew a leader who made changes just for change sake. The staff was always frazzled. When I bring change to my staff I make sure it is thoughtful and with the right intent. #MEMSPAchat
A6: One of the leadership lessons I’ve learned is to understand your own motivations while making decisions. Biases are so strong and integrity can be damaged by a decision made from a biased motivation. Personal victories precede public ones. #MEMSPAchat
A7: The person with the “title” is one with all the answers. WRONG! As a leader my job is to remove obstacles to others can solve problems and lead. #MEMSPAchat
A6: I lean on my grade level chairs to lead their teams a lot. While we have team leaders, we try to really focus on high levels of collaborative work- since our largest team is only 3 members! I try to recognize when people are overloaded with life & let them ...be #MEMSPAchat
A7: Those that don't do what they say they're going to do and don't have faith in/encourage those they lead. We MUST build capacity within our staff and encourage and support them along their journey to reach their full potential. #MEMSPAchat
A7: I was not going to get stuck in the office and not be visible. I wanted my staff to take risks and think outside the box and not settle for the status quo or live by "that's the way we have always done it" . #MEMSPAchat
A7 The “leader” is all knowing-doesn’t have to keep learning and delegates tasks without understanding key attributes. Servant leadership and continuous leading are so much more powerful! #MEMSPAchat
