TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
We will use a Q1, Q2…format for Questions during #TnEdChat . Please use the A1, A2… format for answers and add a gif or meme to visually support your answer
Hello #TnEdChat! A math teacher looking to capitalize on informational resources to improve my craft, share with colleagues, & further prepare my students.
A1 I have trouble completing that...my boss knows how hard I work, that I focus outside my class, and gives me great feedback & reassurance. I do hope he knows how grateful I am for the culture he has established...it's incredible! #TnEdChat
A1: I am passionate about teaching and promise that any question with a new initiative is not automatically a disagreement with it. Our students will always be the priority.
A2: Two things which I know he has little of or ability to control: Time and Money. If I truly want to be the absolute best teacher I can be, I need more time to cultivate my skills and more money to invest in the resources to maximize my kids' potentials to succeed. #tnedchat
Yes, pushback leads to clarity for everyone. It's not a bad thing if it is used with the thought that we are all working towards what is best for the students. #tnedchat
I agree both time and money would make adoption of new practices easier. @DonorsChoose has made many new practices available for my students. #tnedchat

A2: at least one of our PD days to be how to implement both synchronous & asynchronous use of tech in the classroom by common subject matter. #tnedchat

A3) As an RTI2 coordinator, I want to "up my readiness" by networking. I want to know how others are growing and measuring progress in ways that aren't necessarily calculated with numbers. #tnedchat
#tnedchat I imagine a multi-county collaboration to show strategies & practicality of using particular apps/computer programs that have proven applicability in the classroom. Maybe similarly done like the previous TN Core trainings??
A3: Make the tough decisions and shut down uncertainty among unsupportive teachers. Great teachers don't need to worry about drama, but instead be supported and uplifted for their commitment for working towards the united goal. #tnedchat

Q4: I have just adjusted to the new program or app and my techies or boss want me to switch to a newer platform. I want to use the best, but I'd like my boss to: ______ #TnEdChat

Sometimes, when there is a leadership or culture change, teachers need a change as well. It's not personal, it's professional. If your style, your personality doesn't match the new culture, or you're unwilling to adapt to the new goals, then a new school may be for you. #tnedchat
A4 let me develop true proficiency before changing. I love hiking the same trails multiple times, I find something new every time. Tech, programs, platforms, etc are the same way #TnEdChat

A4: I've been on both sides of this...sometimes the teachers must trust the admin that the next thing IS better for all. To admin I would say, think hard before making big changes #tnedchat
A3: by understanding that getting to the end product is a process each day. My principal does understand that it is a homogenous mix of strategies and teaching styles. However, the TEAM rubric is a tough standard by which teachers are judged a handful of times. #tnedchat
I think sometimes we get spoiled with longevity and the thought of staying far outweighs a change but in reality a change is what is needed...slippery and tough topic #tnedchat
A4: Recognize that technology is the tool, not the point of education. If you didn't put the time into get buy-in from your teachers for the "upgrade" then YOU have a problem. Give us some time and resources to adapt and we'll get this worked out. #tnedchat
I will say this: The teaching profession doesn't pay enough or provide enough security to feel comfortable with change. If we were paid and treated like professionals, were able to truly grow and improve with fidelity in our trade, change wouldn't be as scary. #tnedchat
A5: I need you to have my back. As a mom my children thought I always took the teacher's side, and i did as far as they knew. We need to feel supported and not undermined for the future. #tnedchat
Thanks for joining this week’s #TnEdChat and thanks to @1danlawson for the great questions tonight! Don’t forget to follow your new connections from tonight!
Agreed! Being "yes" people on everything doesn't always equate to good change. I'll share my favorite #sketchnote recently discovered, although I'm not really a "rebel". #tnedchat

Oh, I'm not talking technology. If you fire a great teacher because they don't like some tool that the school is adopting without working diligently to help that teacher adjust, then you're foolish. I'm speaking more to culture/leadership changes. #tnedchat
A5: I second this response and would add that administrators should also stay genuinely connected with the students they serve...they're smarter than we know! #TnEdChat
Often times new leaders can come in and the rumor mill grows with what is the new plan, new policies, etc. That rumor mill is often spread by unsatisfied or fearful teachers. Shut down the uncertainty early and be open and direct about where you want the school to go. #tnedchat
Yes...I tell my teachers to let me know what I can do to get you where you can better serve yourself and/or your family. For some that may be another school, others a new career. #TnEdCHat
