Let's add another question to the intro... What's the last thing you made in a blender?
hello my name is Evan O'Rourke I am from Tustin CA
Keith George, Alabama Dept of Education
Jamey NE, iced hot chocolate
I am David from Atlanta and the last think I made in a blender was my lunch protein shake
Mind included Tequila.. . just sayin
Hey, everyone! Kimberly, Media Specialist from Daytona Beach here for !
Hello! My name is Geovanni and I'm from California. The last thing that I made in a blender was a strawberry-banana milkshake.
Last thing in a blender was a protein shake!
Greetings, Barbara here. TECH integration Specialist, Computer Educator Curriculum Developer & Coordinator Fl/StLucia
Q1...coming soon and it has a typo :(
A1: BL=Using both face to face to teacher and tech resources to engage students in the learning process.
A1: to me it's finding that right mix between online and analog instruction
A1) a mix of face-to-face with digital content designed in a LMS to help S learn.
A1: Includes both in person, handson learning along with asynchronous online follow up and discussion.
A1. Using tech & teacher to facilitate learning.
what LMS do you prefer? I think finding the right organization is so important!
I'm interested to find out too. Thanks!
Personally, I like schoology, but well versed in Moodle and Edmodo, too.
blended learning should adapt to your Ss needs, some might need more digital learning
Not a set question...but why do you think so many have different definitions?
A1 allowing learner autonomy to create and discover w/ sufficient knowledge of tech niceties, Integration, use
Partly because the idea is the new area of pedagogy. We are still learning the art of blending, finding best practices.
I think it's also because blended learning can look many different ways!
I think diff. defs. come from the way districts interpret blended learning or in how it's implemented.
A2) At its best, life long learner. Twitter is not the best place to expand this idea....
A2. It gives them access to a world of resources--way beyond the trad. txtbk. Ss can ask experts Qs through Twitter, Skype, etc.
A2: I think it gives students options it does not always have to be sit and get!
A2: It provides time for Ts to work in small groups which could lead to more student growth.
Hi Brenda from Lansdowne, elementary school librarian
interesting..do you think the benefits are just to many for 140 characters
A2. Pt. 2 Ss can also collaborate & learn w/other Ss from different areas of the country or the world.
A2 I believe the ease of execution of knowledge gained from Ts. It allows many introverts to find niche & thrive
A2: Also learning can be specifically geared towards individual students based on their data.
subject that fascinates me as we write new library curriculum I want to do traditional and digital for variety
Ss can have class or be connected to the classroom 24/7
Love that tech allows Ss to connect with people outside the classroom. So many more learning opportunities. https://t.co/sn7vCDEhJt
A2. Pt. 2 Ss can also collaborate & learn w/other Ss from different areas of the country or the world.
No the depth. When designed well, Ss shouldn't have to check in what they learned from class. Ss can learn 2 learn
I would love to see what you develop for library curriculum (I'm also elementary media)!
A3) If I could do it the way I want, it would be a whole lot more mobile.
A3; This is why I am tuning in. How does it look? What are the ideas out? I want to do some lesson plans on symbaloo
A3: I would start with content delivery. How do I give them options, how do I present and organize
A2. Learners needs are better met or hopefully met, via facilitative and engaging learning, creatively
A3: I would have constant small group instruction while others were engaged in carefully selected work involving tech
A3: then once I figure out that timing, what can kids create... Then what scenarios can I give them to create
What do you mean by a lot more mobile?
A3. Since I am in Media, I honestly have no idea. We use tech all the time, but tying in data--not sure how that would work.
A3 Ts only, learning and sharing from each other, prior to use with Ss. Let them see what works and what doesn't
absolutely peer observation is so important!
This is where an LMS comes into play. Ability to do lesson from phone. Take picture, write response, create content.
Have you used the lesson plan tool from ?
Wow! using pictures to post questions in ?
A4: kids had options of the flip or direct. Also had loads of digits creation
I have also seen a really co one where they use reading and online and then kids have to have Socratic seminar type discussion
Data driven, Ss working on websites like , T pulling small groups. That's the description I have gotten.
A LMS allows you to align to objectives. Create schedule, have examples, links to sources. Instructions.
A4 seen a lot of the rotation model.
Sorry , network issues and an EdCamp Conference call pulling me away. :-( I'll grab the transcript from
I think my phone is a bit slow to update :(
A4: tried flipped class but mostly use blended learning in PL classroom where students are choosing online resources based on data.
a4 we've done station rotation, and Ss choice- personalized based on need that day.
A5: Flipped classroom is a type of blended learning model.
A5: while flip is a blended model, I see blended as the place between direct sit and get and all video
A5. I think you could use flipped strategies to help facilitate blended learning.
A5 Flipped supports BL to prep Ss for the next day's lessons especially if form assessments play a role https://t.co/yKt0LwQCv8
I agree. But it makes the design of blended learning easier.
do you get pushback on the flip because students are so trained in direct?
I can definitely share. Inbox me your email address.
The LMS is just an organizational tool but is not necessary.
we haven't because we use it so Ss can do practice probs in class with T supervision-cuts down on HW frustration
- A6: Is there ever really an "all-in-one" solution when it comes to education?
yes, they are, and everyone gets what they like... Personalized cooking 😎
I believe a good lms with assessments built in does support BL well but I haven't found a one stop shop! https://t.co/Eo85aBtCWy
I am in agreement with you.
A6. I have a hard time believing that one thing can meet all needs. Doesn't work w/textbooks, don't think it would w/this.
A6. Sounds like a recipe for failure. Too many eggs in one basket. Should be an option not solution
ha no! But how many of the digital content platforms claim it
Most though have data components that do not get used in driving instruction. They are more useful...
A6: There is never one size fits all. Ss need to be taught how to use tech. Not all Ss can learn independently, need more T support.
When thinking about q6 I think about all those digital content platforms especially in lower grades
A7: I have never used Symbaloo, but I need to give it a shot.
I always see them in support of T-I do think intuitive adaptive software may get to that place w Ts more as guides
A7: I think it's great to organize blended learning and lesson plans lets you create your own digital content
you can embed google drive in it which opens possibilities
I hate when those are blocked.
A7 great gateway to send Ss to places without typing in every web address. One stop for access https://t.co/KAp95UVuO0
A7. Haven't done anything w/the plans YET, but they would be a great way to deliver content to Ss.
That's awesome, I will be checking it out soon and trying it out with my Ss.
provide learning for the Hoi polloi with individual needs in mind
I agree that they are not used like they could. Schools just 'house' content. Might as well handout WS.
I suspect lesson plan will be getting some updates soon so stay tuned!
A7) one of my Fav mixes is a collection of YouTube videos that connect to the lit we read for the year. Kids watch ahead of time.
Thanks everyone for coming!
A7 Afford learners opportunity to create and organize their work and sources. All in an easy-to-access location
