The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
I'm Kathy co-founder and co-moderator of #educaoch. My #eduwin was working with a great group of teacher leaders today and on Monday! So reflective and eager to learn!
Michael Shunneson | Director of Secondary Ed. | Leader of some Awesome Leaders | Loved seeing @JoaniJoanis working with @Kaylynn_R_H’s class this week. #educoach
Amber, K-5 Math & Sci from NC. Super excited to get edu"coached" tonight! My #eduwin was several staff saying how glad they were to have their "support" back after a couple weeks away & at conferences. #educoach
Cory from Texas! My #eduwin was collaborating with colleagues to develop blended and virtual coaching plans for districts we serve #educoach#videocoaching@SibmeApp

A1: I guess we have introduced the program via presentation to the whole district, offering a "menu", but in reality, what is most effective is 1:1 conversation and wins with individual teachers. #educoach
A1: sitting down with teachers individually and just talking about how their year is going and preliminary goal setting and how I️ can assist #EDUCOACH
A1: I have a partner coach who is ELA. She & I were very intentional about being upfront about our expectations for coaching, developing a relationship w/ Ts, and being transparent about who we are. Started with their goals. #educoach
A1: Personal contact, follow-ups, and process/product/timeline conversations with colleagues. Looking for volunteers first, then adding cold calls. #educoach
Connecting with teachers in a way that doesn't have the coach come across as the expert & build upon that Ts they want to improve their craft, be more effective, implement new skills, and see students learn more. #educoach
A1: We have layers of coaching opportunities and they are introduced in different ways. The best thing we are getting away from is it being only about improvement for struggling Ts & instead shifting it as a process for all. #educoach

A1: Been where I am for a long time so Ts know me/how coaching works. I have found this video helpful in the past to share the role of a coach: https://t.co/GTN3yZMbVX#educoach

A2: As a part of my Coaching Cycle, I am asking the teacher i'm working with to invite at least one colleague to observe our work (while I watch their class). #educoach
I virtually coach Ts and coaches. Video is such a great tool to help teachers SEE and reflect on their practice. The T I'm coaching keeps saying,"I didn't realize I did or didn't to something." #educoach

A2: I think teachers could be asked about their views towards coaching, areas they feel the school as a whole could benefit from coaching, and ares they personally want coaching (needs assessment). This could be used to set up the program & schedule. #educoach

So you use it to video them? I assumed it was more of a platform like FaceTime. Lol what do you like about using that app instead of just videoing it on your device w/ the camera? #educoach

A2: Making space for peer observations & coaching, PLC's determining goals to work on, coaching labs w/ video of T work & peer feedback/suggestions (using structured protocols), letting individual Ts set their coaching focus. #educoach
A2: A needs assessment from Ts is a great way to involve them from the start & then asking them to share their experience with others as the cycle is completed. #educoach
A2 when I meet with Ts I explain the the coaching process and various activities and the format possibilities (face to face, video, virtual meetings). Then we talk about their goals and what would support them best to build our plan. #educoach
A3: The most success I've had is sending out a google form and having Ts request. This year I sent it out once for the whole year to better plan. #EduCoach
A3: An instructional coach must convince Ts to change possibly an entrenched attitude or behavior by convincing them it is worth it as they gain more than they give up. #educoach
A3: Planning the cycle around an idea generated by the teacher - something they want for their students. We also have a leadership Cadre each year (across nine buildings) that helps build pockets of excellence. #educoach

A3: I did a needs assessment that was open ended at the beginning of the year. I also did another survey focused on the TEAM rubric for observations. If a T repeated I visited them to start a cycle. I’m starting 3! #educoach
A2 its a relatively new idea at our school so teacher play a pivotal roll in developing the program. We take feedback through #observeme on our coaching sessions. #educoach
A3 Bc we are usually called in to districts for coaching, Ts don’t really enroll. But we get buy in by building #trust#listening and modeling the coaching process. #educoach
A3: Working with a T to figure out the goal/next step in their learning that they feel will help them & their Ss grow. Then working hand in hand to work toward that goal/learning. #educoach
A3: Biggest success in the enrolling process is through making it available to all and catering to them. Personalizing the process is very beneficial. #educoach
A4 Enrolling doesn't work as well if coach and admin have different thoughts/understandings of coaching and the coach's roll. Admin and C need to develop their own agreements. #educoach
A4 rushing in, using an admin’s goal, not fully understanding or helping the T to understand their goal and how to measure it. Now I have a protocol I use to help me slow down and get clear on things (#videocoaching helps that clear picture) #educoach@SibmeApp
A4: Teacher perception that I’m an expert had us take two steps forward and one step back. As a new Coach, I️ would refrain from modeling as the first move #educoach

A5: we recently just added two new team members to the math team. I made sure to meet them in person and send them a lengthy communication that welcomed them, provided them with links and description of what I do. I followed this up with an initial meeting to set goals. #educoach
A4: Last year was my 1st year as an IC so I spent my time building relationships, on the spot Coaching, and learning the position. I’m being more intentional with Coaching cycles this year and I’m journaling what works well and what doesn’t. #educoach
Yes.A baseline agreement needs to be that C is not a vehicle of information about everything T's are saying/doing that goes straight to Admin.Ts need to feel safe to open up/be vulnerable with a C. #educoach
A5: the door is always open to 'enroll' in a cycle. the form can be filled out any point in the year or teachers can seek support outside of cycles #educoach
A5: Transparency and openness is year round. I’m ready and willing when they are ready. Asking to try new strategies in classrooms is helpful for my growth and for enrolling opportunities. #educoach
A5: I think re-enrolling Ts to continue the process is a way to grow your impact. An ongoing relationship can pay dividends for others as the learn that coaching is not a one and done. #educoach
"sitting in" #educoach and #kidsdeserve it seeing tweets about the importance of learning together, expectation, and relationships. One about Ts to Ss and one about Coaches to Ts. Coincidence? I think not. Powerful? Beyond measure.
A6: all of my observation, planning, debrief, kickoff, etc notes are kept in a shared google folder with the coachee. We refer to them often. #educoach
A4: One way to support change is for principal to dedicate time for coaches & Ts to work together in a confidential, risk-free environment. - made time, not found time. #educoach

A6: Coaching documents created in google docs that are shared with Ts. Keeping a record of dates/times met with Ts to make sure someone isn't inadvertently overlooked. #educoach

A5. I️ like to host parties. Like Christmas content tea. And cookies with the coach.. Feb: Strategies you’ll love etc. Snacks, Resources and enrollment calendar present. #educoach
A6: For my records, I have a spreadsheet that I update with colleagues I'm currently working with, their goal focus, and projected timeline/plan of action. #educoach
A6 I’m not sure I’ve thought of recording the enrolling process but I’m loving the analytics we have now that we are using an online platform! @SibmeApp#educoach
A7: Providing ongoing opportunities to grow as a community of practice. Colleagues in and out of classrooms; lab site learning opportunities for colleagues to practice, coach, and grow alongside each other. #educoach
A7: By reminding Ts that Coaches are Ts too. It’s not the position but the willingness and availability that makes it possible. Provide time and encourage Ts to get into each other’s rooms. #educoach#observeme movement is a great start to the process of peer coaching.
Q7: Making sharing products, results, observations a part of the cycle. A coaching cycle with one can ripple through a department or building. #educoach
A7 The C doesn’t always have the answer, or isn’t always the best to model, seek models in the district and facilitate learning walks or... my favorite, take video to the #PLC#educoach@SibmeApp

A7. Texas Lesson Study. It’s an amazing 5 Phase process that brings teachers together as professionals to research, reflect, refine and repeat. https://t.co/NsHBTyqXVg#educoach
Yes! There was positive response from #ObserveMe in our building. Hoping to continue to grow this form of peer observation and feedback until it is a norm of our culture. #educoach
A7: Would highlighting some of the great practices and strategies being used in classrooms in casual conversations pique Ts’ curiosities? The Coach can offer to teach classes so Ts can peer observe #educoach

A7: A collaborative faculty that's defensive, willing to listen & learn from to one another, realizing they may not individually know all they need to in order to promote quality teaching & learning. #educoach
A7 peer observations, PLNs. Sent out a self assessment of Ts strengths to share with each other so they knew who was the “expert” in certain aspects #educoach

A6: My partner coach has does a brilliant job of this with some Ts we have who are lateral entry. She has really worked to facilitate a relationship b/w them and mentors at the school. #relationship is key. #educoach
A8: I find it important to use the resources as tools to help guide the coaching process, but ultimately making it specific to my building's culture and needs #educoach
A6b: I try to work with mentors to closely to ensure we are both "speaking the same language" to the Ts if they are a BT. This helps build up both. #educoach
A6c: I work hard to give specific praise to my Ts in a way that allows others to learn from it too. I often take snips of parts of their lessons that are awesome a post them with annotations of greatness on our shoutout board. #educoach
A8 Not a tangible resource - but having a genuine curiosity and deep humility is a great tool when working with Ts.
And cute puppies don't hurt either. #educoach#coachapproach

Formally have one scheduled debrief per week, in classroom 2-3 times per week. Often visit outside of that time too, and emails. Schedule all of that at the beginning of the cycle #EduCoach
Have you and the T planned out what you're going to do each time you are in the classroom? Do you focus on the same thing each time across a week? #educoach
Cycle when a T (or a group) teams with a coach for 4 to 6 weeks to work on a goal for students. Student-centered coaching goal based on student data, grade level benchmarks.
