Cindy Woody, Executive Dir of Curriculum & Instruction, from the great district of @MidlothianISD, doing my happy dance because it's finally #EdPiper time!!!
Hey #EDpiper#PLN! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and NY break. I love breaks but there is also something deep inside my soul that loves #MyRoutine! :-)
A2: Telling a story, celebrating the work, continue professional learning opportunities and provide the gift of time to implement - INVEST in teachers professionally. #edpiper
A2 Three keys to the teaching field being viewed as a true profession: 1) Engage in & share professional-level research work, 2) participate in post-grad & continuing education, and 3) share your profession's story and passion! #EdPiper#education

A2: Nothing more powerful than #personalizedPD Empowering Ts to take their learning in their own hands creates a trickle down effect for learning and trust. #EDpiper
A2: The teaching profession is the one that everyone outside of it feels that they are an expert. The irony is that those in the profession are constantly striving to become experts. #EDpiper
A1: I love the way our principal @PrincipalGates put it today: we should be a family and create an environment that is student-centered, where kids WANT to attend. If they don’t, we have to reflect within ourselves & desire improvement. #EDpiper
R2: we are our best salespeople on education. If we don’t tell our story, someone else will. The more we show successes and areas where improvement is needed, the more accepted our communities become to our hard work. #edpiper
A2: schools must become better at PR surrounding the accomplishments of their teachers. Brag on education levels, tenure, and innovations and programs that wouldn’t be possible without their expertise. The public deserves to know! #Edpiper

A2: Use every platform possible to praise the amazing work T’s do every day. Treat them as professionals and trust they will continue to do what is right for our kids #edpiper
In order to professionalize what we do, we must continuously build it up to where it belongs. We must share the good things going on in our schools. Share your stories! #EDpiper@FOTPSLeslie

A2: Continually owning the chosen profession and taking it to new heights. When you take ownership, you feel more connected. Personalize your learning. #edpiper#personalizedPD

A3: Invite parents into the daily life and routines of the learner experience! Connect to parents through social media to share your classroom story. Market and brand your classroom! #EdPiper
A3 Parents want to be meaningful partners in their child's education, not just fundraisers or party planners. Great schools start by inviting parents in & listening to them! #EDpiper#parents#PTA#PTO
A3: I send home positive parents e-mails at least once a quarter. Lets them know that greatness is happening in my room. Shocks them as they're not used to it. #edpiper
Teachers and staff need to understand the power of branding. We need to stand proud and show what we're all about- our students. They deserve to be bragged on daily! #EDpiper@FOTPSLeslie#MakeItaPriorityNow
A3: this continues to be a struggle for our school. We’ve tried all formats, times, and even include food but can’t find an approach that makes this area meaningful for most. Looking forward to reading other tweets. #EDpiper
A3: See parents as partners in their child's education. Help them find ways to be involved and make listening to them a priority rather than an inconvenience. #EDpiper
A3: We have to make our schools open and inviting to parents, they have to know how important they are to their child’s success. It takes a village and they are a huge part of our villages #edpiper
A3: Invite parents into the daily life and routines of the learner experience! Connect to parents through social media to share your classroom story. Market and brand your classroom! #EdPiper
R3: don’t wait to contact parents when something is going wrong. I send an email to my HS parents each week letting them know what is happening the following week via #Skyward. I translate emails for my EL Ss. Participate in meetings with Ps; go to events. #edpiper
A3: Allowing parents access to their child’s education. Also- communication is key. Parents have to know how to assist their child and what resources are available for their family. #EDpiper
Our parents love to know what is going on in the classrooms...love to see pics of their kids at work...we share via FB, Instagram and Twitter #EDpiper#BrAveLearns

A2: The best way to professionalize our teaching career is singing loud for all to hear. Show and share the wonderful growth education is having in this age! #EDpiper#christmasisover#ohwell
A3: communicate positive messages from the jump so parents know you're interested and care...then if you need them for reinforcements later with an issue they're more apt to hear your side.
I love sending post cards home monthly to parents to brag on their "babies"! #EDpiper
A2: The best way to professionalize our teaching career is singing loud for all to hear. Show and share the wonderful growth education is having in this age! #EDpiper#christmasisover#ohwell
I have learned by watching @VicOladipo this year that we look at the great things, but until every child makes it, we have room to improve. #ConstantImprovement#EDpiper
A4: Integrate vision and culture into hiring practices - utilize the vision of the learner experience and see where the candidates take it. Continue to speak the vision and engage staff and community in the ideal learner experience in order for them to own the process #edpiper
A4: Create a culture of shared ownership and give teachers a voice in the hiring process. Then, they will ensure you bring the right people onboard. #EDpiper

As a teacher, I did a lot of calling parents up & just talking, listening, checking on them & their understanding. Lots of personal touches on notes home, report card comments, little surprises for parents. Relationships preceded parents being visible. #EDpiper
Q2- We have to continue to tell our story.... especially as public school Ts! Don't think of it as bragging when you share your story-think of it as educating others on the profession!
#edpiper#misdproud@Longbranch_Elem
A1: they cultivate good positive relationships with all stakeholders and are always questioning and trying to improve instructional strategies #edpiper
A4: During interviews, I will be asking: 1. What are you reading? 2. How are you growing yourself professionally? 3. What is your Twitter handle? 4. How will you fit in with our vision? #EDpiper
R4: When I interviewed for new Ts, I wanted examples of what the candidate would bring to my school that would be different. If they couldn’t answer or weren’t sure what we were doing, they weren’t getting the job. We again must tell our story & place where it’s seen #edpiper
A4: Hiring is critical for sustained success. It should be a group process for vetting candidates but the principal must have final say as they are responsible for what happens once hired.the committees need a list of “look fors” in the hiring process #edpiper
I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the interview panel as a teacher the last few openings we've had. Shows me a lot of the HR process, and I feel included in selecting greatness. #edpiper
A4: All staff members should be a part of the hiring process and all live the culture and vision of a school. Incorporate this culture into the interviews and center your questions around it, you will be able to tell when you have the right people #edpiper
A4: Leaders should always be on the lookout for great educators. Ts want to recruit educators that are like-minded and passionate about their craft!
#edpiper#misdproud@Longbranch_Elem
I constantly have my eyes open for great teaching candidates. You never know when you might find another great addition who will bless your students and staff. #EDpiper
A4: Avoid the "good ole boy" system, seek out qualified and passionate professionals, bring in instructional leaders as part of the process, think about interview questions...don't just read from the same old list! Some schools have potential hires interact w/ Ss! #EDpiper
I once interviewed a T who had taught in my building, left to go to a different school, and wanted to come back. I showed the T data from the Ss she taught. She couldn’t tell me what their needs were. She did not come back to teach in my school. #EDpiper
A5: Allowing Ss to have ownership in their learning. Balanced and blended integration of technology to empower learners. Create opportunities and allow for failure - so much to learn through the process of failure. #edpiper
A4: Set and share the vision and expectations of the job. Allow the current teachers to have voice and encourage growth. Then sit back and watch the magic happen. #EDpiper
This is something I keep running into while reading. It's quite interesting and true. I've seen this time and again with great teachers. Passionate, hard-working, and relational teachers can be game changers in the lives of students. #EDpiper
A5: sometimes simple is best. Ask Ss for input and feedback. Reflect on their needs and then adjust to meet them. An enjoyable class for Ss increases learning and is more enjoyable for the teacher too!!! #EDpiper
A1 Top-performing schools are intentional and purposeful in everything they do. It's easy to say they are "lucky," but it takes soooo much more than luck to shine.
A5: Stay tuned! Tomorrow we may not be on the beach, but my Ss will be limbo-ing into 2018 as they enter the classroom! Little things like that make school a place that Ss want to come back to!
#edpiper#misdproud@Longbranch_Elem
Meet students where they are and never stop learning, a great educator is a dedicated learner. Don’t be afraid to try new things and to mess up every now and then, it’s part of the process! #edpiper
A5: I bring in a ton of real world examples. I show them how to relate the curriculum to life outside of the classroom though projects and tasks. #edpiper
A5: Build relationships! Make school a place where you and students want to be. Get on their level, meet them at their lows and encourage their highs. #EDpiper
R5: we also need to be teaching our Ss real world skills. They should be #NowReady and have the capacity to adapt to things that will be put in their way in the future. #edpiper
A6: So many words to choose from. I have more than one. My #OneWord2018 is Dissertation. Knowing the light is at the end of the tunnel in December. #edpiper
A6: Huge #oneword fan - @JimmyPageVT - Balance - beautiful reminder of how important it is in life. Challenges me to set example for my kiddos and others around me with work and life. #edpiper
A6- thankful. I’m thankful for the opportunities provided me each & everyday. Thankful to impact and be impacted by the world of education & loving family & friends #thankful#EDpiper
My goal/Word is INTENTIONAL. Make time for what’s important whether it’s reading a book, Time with loved ones, or making time for an exploratory project in my class. I’m taking there’s #notenoughtime out of my vocabulary! #EdPiper
A6: So many words to choose from. I have more than one. My #OneWord2018 is Dissertation. Knowing the light is at the end of the tunnel in December. #edpiper
A6: My #oneword2018 is CONNECT. I want to CONNECT more deeply with my family, friends, colleagues, and other educators while CONNECTING with those that I can help. #edpiper#misdproud@Longbranch_Elem
A6: My one word is relentless, relentless pursuit of all my goals for my family, my school, my teachers, my staff, and my students. Never give up, no matter what! #edpiper
This was our fun on the day we let students out for the holidays. We had so much fun. This should be how we make our kiddos feel every day. (I'm the Grinch...LOL) #EDpiper
Truly a blessing to see kids smile at school. Shows how much they enjoyed school and friendships. Looking forward to there return tomorrow.
