Hey #BmoreEdchat Justin here 4th grade teacher from @BaltCitySchools ready to collaborate! Super excited to moderate tonight! Here are some tips for tonight's chat!
A1: I took advantage of having the first day back with my kids after getting married to @kait013087 on Saturday. My kids were so exited to work together again! They also loved to ask about wedding protocol! #BmoreEdchat
A1) took advantage of stopping into an 8th grade ELA class to engage Ss in real world discussions on the benefits and downfalls of different currencies across countries (their question). #BmoreEdchat
I have to retweet this because @HisLadyJay711 was my dorm room mother during my first years @gouchercollege as an undergraduate! She pushed me to be an educator! #BmoreEdchat
A2) it’s everything. A teacher’s willingness to take risks is what allows students to feel comfortable doing the same. If teacher morale is low, the students are definitely impacted as well. #BmoreEdchat
A2: A teacher is not a robot. Teachers are human being. Naturally, teachers are the leaders of the classroom. How Ts view the profession, students, and the community will reveal itself naturally and affect how they treat students. #BmoreEdChat

A2 T mindset about self and Ss can be the difference between Ss learning or not. If T thinks Ss “can’t learn” then they won’t. Also kids feed off your energy/attitude. #BmoreEdchat
A2: How educators approach challenge and failure in the classroom has a direct connection to the mindset students lean towards. We all fail and that is ok! How we grow and learn is more important! #BmoreEdchat

A3- For me, the calling excess the stressors. Have to keep pushing forward for my Ss. Helped by the sheer joy I get from seeing Ss learn. Not a fan of endless paperwork or countless meetings, but Ss growth is the best. #BmoreEdchat
The IT is so difficult to define because teaching is an art! However, mindset is definitely part of the rubric to assess the art of teaching! #BmoreEdchat
A3 Teaching is a fabulous job when all is well in your personal life, when it's not it can be almost impossible, difficult for outsiders to understand #BmoreEdchat
A3: Stress causes us to lose focus & also causes us to be able to clearly problem solve...all of a sudden we become helpless and panicked. #BmoreEdchat
A3 Honestly some days I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to make it as a teacher. Some days I really have to give myself a pep talk each class pd to get through the day. Teacher stress is so real! #BmoreEdchat
Sometimes I'm so focused on what I need to do outside of the classroom ( grades, report card comments, regrouping, etc) that it makes it hard to focus on my actual lessons and students. #bmoreedchat

A3) great teachers are losing passion and motivation because of the stresses, not of teaching children, but of all the red tape and external pressures. #BmoreEdchat
Yes I have found that it can have a huge impact on our classrooms. So we have to be prepared for this with things in place such as a team, quiet time, words of encouragement #bmoreedchat

To add- stressors can both muddle mindset and clarify it-after a particularly stressful time we can either throw up our hands or find a perspective to start seeing solutions #BmoreEdchat
and that's ok! It is because we care about our kids that we are stressed! We just need to collaborate and support each other to be our best! #BmoreEdchat
A4) have people who will listen and let you vent without trying to solve, and have people who will listen and help solve. Sometimes you need one more than the other. #BmoreEdchat
One thing is I stay present in the moment. I try not to multi task finding that it never helps me. I stay present, not too far in the future. This has helped me be more peaceful and joy filled #bmoreedchat
A4: laugh, smile, cry, hug, be human and make sure students and staff know feelings are just part of being human. Then make them laugh at you! #BmoreEdchat
A 4 Look for solutions. try something different. but also I separate myself from my job. Spend time with family, friends & self. Doing something simple & selfish-like eating cheesecake without sharing-can be helpful. #BmoreEdchat
A4: I try to laugh and smile. It is difficult sometimes to truly think about this, but once it becomes ingrained, I find you approach challenges with fun! My kids fill out report cards for me every quarter & they always say SMILE MORE! #bmoreEdchat

A5: Spend intentional time reminding yourself that "Today is a good day to have a good day." You have to choose joy, if you don't your students won't, and joy is something your students need to help them grow! #bmoreedchat
A5: Sounds simple but THINk about your MINDSET during the day. Metacognition is powerful! When you feel stressed think about it as it passes through your mind. Try to flip your negativity to positivity intentionally! #BmoreEdchat
I have to consistently remind myself of my purpose each week. I also am focusing on thanks right now to have a grateful heart. I have found I am stronger doing so #bmoreedchat
PHS has a 10 minute mindful moment each day. I definitely take advantage of that whether my kids feel like participating or not. Helps me stay focused. #BmoreEdchat
Remember why you teach! Sometimes I stop and think about what I remember from school; the most important memories I made in my classrooms. Then, I reflect and see if I'm giving my Ss the same experience #BmoreEdchat
A5: Be mindful. Ask yourself, “what am I feeling?” and “why am I feeling this way?” Allow yourself the luxury of reflection. Unfortunately, our modern age values business. It’s time to see time and space as assets instead of distractions. #bmoreedchat
A5: First timer here. Glad to be a part of this chat. Music! I find the right song to start the next class after I get knocked down. Something to get my head and my kids’ heads right. #BmoreEdchat
Have to check out a bit early tonight. Thanks to all for an uplifting conversation. Continue to inspire #FutureLeaders daily and have a great week on purpose! #BmoreEdchat
A6 Take a break! Carve out some time on the weekend/weeknight that’s just for fun! Also-validation. “Yeah it sucks right now but it’ll get better.” And- “How can I help? What would make this better?” #BmoreEdchat
A6: Shut down and check out. Seriously. Turn everything off and disconnect. When teachers burn out it’s usually because they’ve failed to carve out time to be away. Don’t feel that it’s necessary to be perpetually on call. #BmoreEdChat
Q6: Teach a lesson that you want to teach. Ignore curriculum for a day (or more). If there were no boundaries, what would your classroom look like, sound like, feel like? Do that. #BmoreEdchat

we have to consciously remind ourselves of our why statements. I have a red dot in my room which reminds me to be laser focused on my why (kids) every single time I get off track! #BmoreEdchat
A2: A teacher’s mindset is the sunrise and sunset of a classroom. You can start the day in a sunny and beautiful way or with clouds and darkness. I always tell my kids I have one rule, “start the day with a smile.” It will make it or break it. @bmoreedchat
I force myself to be exposed to the evil I wish to change in the world, which helps guide me when helping my students and staff find their why. #BeTheChange#BmoreEdChat
Q7: Anonymous thank you notes to colleagues. Get students to write thank you notes and put them in teacher mailboxes for them. Remind kids that adults need some love too. #BmoreEdchat
A7. Celebrate the accomplishments of others with a Card and a Smile. Give specific praise about how another's actions added to building an effective school community! #bmoreedchat
A7: Don't be afraid to stand up for kids and challenge the process for them especially when it includes staff or adults who don't believe in them. You not only show them you care but you also model how to advocate #BmoreEdchat

A7: Let your positive freak flag fly. Positivity is contagious. People feel silly being negative in the face of positivity. Be happy in spite of grumpiness. #bmoreedchat
