It's time for ! Marifran, hs librarian from NY - if I could pick any magic power... hmmm, what separates it from superpower?
Hi IF I had a superpower as an admin...teleportation. too much time traveling, not enough in classes
Well THAT'S weird...I'm not seeing the question!
Hello My Magic power would be teleportation. I want to be anywhere in the world in a split second.
Hi Everyone! Kathy from CT here! Happy to be able to participate.

Yep that's it that's what i want my magic power to be! https://t.co/eWHt7ZADWW
Hello My Magic power would be teleportation. I want to be anywhere in the world in a split second.
If I had a superpower, it would def be to cut myself into 19 pieces so each of my student could get a piece of me.
I wish I could be Mrs. Incredible: elastigirl!
Hey you! Happy to see you!
Hi all! Julie from St. Augustine, FL. 1st grade watching this storm track right now
Hi all! I had a confusing moment, so I apologize for not saying hi to everyone individually! Maybe Teresa's still hosting. ;)
Kathy , home from Nashville , ready to learn
A1: helping Ss see what makes them exceptional and how they inspire others using S.H.I.N.E.
how come it says Q4 in the picture? Magic?
A1: In my unanswerable questions warm up, we use love to investigate mathematical connections https://t.co/GkeqqAnIPV
Teresa to the rescue, my special power! Anytime!
Because I'm dumb! Last night was a tired night!
A1) I see teachers show love to students all the time. It looks like setting limits, encouraging, listening, believing.
A1: Listening to students' interests and helping them find their talents and build confidence.
I can only imagine how much folks in your position in rural districts/county systems do! TG for coffee stops!
A1 we use love by only focusing on the positive. We are a family. We celebrate each other. They know I… https://t.co/SvWTfIkJr7

Hi all. Eric here from Brazil.
A2 i show love every time I recommend a just right book for a S.
A1. Listen to my Ss, tell them I love them, & show them I love them even when I have to get tough.
And I'd like to work somewhere cool like someday...
A1 (really A4) Love is can't wait to get there and don't want to leave once I do
I think encouraging, listening and believing are big parts of showing love
We're quite international tonight, or today for some of you.
I was just thinking this! YES!
I am home and availablefor a little got to love that
sweetie, lovie, bunnie - they all come out in convo, esp as the day gets busier and more hectic
A1: I make my sure students that I care about them as ppl.
Don't always stand at the door when they come in but I always greet them on the way out.
A1:Telling Ss I'll love them no matter their grade, regardless of eye-to-eye factor. Then showing them. 14 year-olds, mind you.
A1- Share love (hope) by finding ways for students to feel successful! Even if it's not academics - gasp! Celebrate & praise!

Chris coming in late from PA. Hello all!
2 Laugh A LOT (even at yourself), allow students to write/read humorous texts/songs/poems, have fun w/ the Ss, play at recess!
A2: I'll do impressions, make crazy noises, pretty much a lot of slapstick humor.
A2. I became a lot funnier when I stopped trying to be funny and started trying to be more authentic
A2 I laugh, a lot and I have a big obnoxious laugh
A2. I always let kids see my weird, awkward, clumsy, goofy side. I think they like that I'm weird! https://t.co/r1MbcSLrSE
Enjoyed reading your post Being an active listener, and respecting Ss ideas.
A2: Try to keep things light w/in the classroom. Levity always brightens up the mood. If I could tell jokes, I would but.. .
A1:when you love what you do, it shows & people know that you are serious about what you say and what you want. It is evident!
A2 we live for humor. Disco duck. Drum to use for everything. Laugh at ourselves. Dancing!! Standing o… https://t.co/ysrOmSlIh1

This question is for all, not just the masters!
A2: I don't practice, it just comes out at opportune (and inopportune) times :).
A2: one year I played Spike Jones' music for a bit of laughter.
Yes. So excited to make it tonight.
A2: storytelling, again and again. Just tell your experiences from the heart and natural humor usuaslly follows.
If you teach MS......enough said. LOL
A2 I love using my Yes and no button too!!!
A2 I add a happy dance to get their attention. had the pleasure of my happy stroll today. 🤓
Brazil is kind of hot, so I'm always sweating. Sadly. I can't hide it. We'll laugh at that.
I love telling long, ridiculous stories. Real ones, and total lies!
I get down w/the Ss I dab, rap, tell jokes, laugh a lot w/ Ss every day-make weird creations in makerspace
A2. Sometimes I would tease some kids (ones I knew that I was joking) this usually got them smiling and laughing
I immediately thought of you today with my dancing comment. LOVE your stroll!!
Can't go wrong w/ Mo Willems.
Best advice by a mentor "Take the job seriously. Don't take yourself seriously."
Florida - us too - I so often hear, "Mr. Farnum, your back is sweaty!"
Sounds so naughty, but its just too real https://t.co/6rPfa3jXwh
Oh my gosh, I wake up with you people and I go to bed with you people. LoL
Love telling stories, great way to connect, they love hearing them. ESP the funny & embarrassing!
A2:I LOVE to have fun w/ the Ts and Ss I work with! Humor is such an icebreaker, esp. in moments when the convo. is challenging.
please say you hide under those when your kids aren't looking then scare them!
is now trending in USA, ranking 41
This is awesome! And also: you slipped by me, howdy!
I'll admit to babe. That's a Jersey thing. NC sec'y called everyone "baby duck." That's where I draw the line!
I'm starting to believe...
That's funny! They ask me why I'm always sweating. I just reply because I'm fat.
I never thought of that....awesome idea.....hmmmm.......
"We Are In a Book!" Hysterical!
Buy it now it is awesome!
A3 New books..gets them all the time. No wonder I am broke
I read a lot of funny chapter books aloud. Ronald Dahl especially.
A3) Surprise them and always leave them wanting more!
IN GLITTER??!! Whaaaa....
I do a unit on different kinds of jokes and how to write a joke. It is so funny to dissect what is funny & not!
if we tweet this pic to her everyday. She will see the sparkle
video or it didn't happen!
BANANAS!!!! Have you read "I Am Invited to a Party"?
what's this about glitter?
A3: I like to change up the plans. I'll say something like, "Today, instead of IXL, let's do something cool!"
, I always loved reading James and the Giant Peach aloud to my students. https://t.co/g70uuCIR1E
I read a lot of funny chapter books aloud. Ronald Dahl especially.
I am already laughing.....
The Twits is one that is gross and makes them snicker.
The second line of this tweet is true, but focus on that 1st one https://t.co/3izqzMe46O
Actually is spot on here. gives great hugs.
I can't figure out if that is a good thing! lol
Love glitter!!!!!!!! Afterwards....decoration that keeps giving!
Love when they play ball with the snake. I needed Depends the day I read that!
best Halloween prank ever!
A3 It is the little things that mean the world to Ss- flexible seating, choice, having time to tinker to learn
Kory all you have to do is believe and let yours of sparkle
A3 and are keeping my kids transfixed this month!
A3: I move around a lot, sit down at their tables, show up behind them.
A3 Change up any routine that's too routine!
A3:novelty sparks curiosity which sparks engagement. Ss need a change of pace, something to make them wonder more than anything!
A3. Still working on finding the balance between novelty & ritual. Think I need more novelty! https://t.co/3jkyBIKAF4
Have you tried Quiver coloring pages? It turns them into 3D renderings in augmented reality. It seems like magic!
A4 All good stuff but you still need you time :))
I believe I have some planning to do!
Hey Zach, welcome to the !
We also use for the kids to learn how to tell jokes.
To inspire novelty I try projects that balance scaffolding (for direction) with open endedness (for magic)
A3: flexible seating options
A2 I once went a full day without talking at all in class because I had "lost my voice" now that was funny
A3: Choice menus and tic-tac-toe boards
A3 I love being unpredictable always leaves them hanging...and puzzled
Really!! 😱 I must have this.
A pile full of supplies and a goal make for absolute awesomeness!
A3 props... sometimes you wear a cape...
All the glitter talk is making me itchy
A3: Puppets, with a side of puppets
A3: We're going outside to read today!
A3 I love talking to them with different accents. Love the accent from Justified
glad to be here! Great to see you gents!
no joke...I own those glasses too!
signing on a little late.. there was a clown between me n my mac. she’s gone now.
My kids often say, "Can you do that in a British accent?"
https://t.co/wioNQqrEJs The app is free and a lot of the coloring pages are free too.The kids take pics & make videos
someone just made me a cape! (It goes with my magic wand that makes a magicky noise...)
Love the site for that too! https://t.co/BdA2rhmdWT
A3:novelty sparks curiosity which sparks engagement. Ss need a change of pace, something to make them wonder more than anything!
so you really think that'll work? I mean really? Puppets?
A1 Not being a K-12 teacher, i’m reaching way back to when i taught Flash back at a CC. Passion [rather than $] made me do it..
because you are super awesome!
Hello ! Cathy, edtech spec fr NJ/NYC had me drive all over to get to when it was just a straight ride 🤔😫😠
we have a courtyard! It's the best motivator for Ss engagement! I often use Voxer with them to walk and talk
A1b So i suppose liking/loving what you do makes you do it better & stay with it through hard times.
A4: My mirroring their negative perspective with a positive one "Congratulations you just discovered how numbers don't work!"
A4: "We are going to have fun today! Wait until you hear what we're going to do!"
A4: I think modeling positivity by letting things go, laughing when things go wrong, etc.
Show them, model, failure is ok. I make mistakes on purpose so I can laugh at myself & model bouncing back
A4: don't let your expectations be what holds students back. Expect great things & they will do great things!
A4: each day is a new day and fresh start for everyone
I will assume you are in unknown territory.
I have one of those too! It is like you people are in my "Tickle Trunk".
A4) I give students and parents positivity every day with my . I make one positive call every day.
I knew a guy once who used a puppet to teach a thing.
You may need to make mistakes on purpose...mine happen all the time. lol
all the glitters.
So many glitters.
I'm going to get the vacuum.
A4. Help them develop a growth mindset while supporting them.
A4: help them create an action plan when struggling w/ work completion
A4 Teach that mistakes have their own superpower
it is the best. So many accents to do!
A4) Ss doubt themselves aloud often. Don't let that go without a response! Trigger and condition positivity!
Def new. Exploring the area beyond cheer practice
I had a neighbor who wanted to tell me about the tickle trunk. I wasn't allowed to go over anymore.
If you are passionate and value education you will elude optimism and that is contagious 🙀
Hi . Stacey from NJ. Sorry to be joining late. It's been a long time.
A4: by listening to them, being yourself, accepting them, & building +ive relationship. Ss r great at identifying real & fake.
A4: I know that the Ss are *always* listening. If I don't have positivity in convo w Ts, can I expect the kiddies to have it?
I keep wanting, but forgetting
A4: I am always "on" even when I get the glassy eyed stares, just makes me work harder!
A4:reminding Ss that it is just as easy to look at glass as half full instead of half empty-supporting Ss, cheering them on!
they have multiple apps available! Typorama, Bitmoji, Word Swagg, Canva, Prisma
A2 Good humor [like the ice cream] is better than dark humor, especially in learning. Definitely don’t want to make other shy.
there's another one I just threw out: kiddies. Esp powerful when addressing a roomful of Ss bigger than you
A4: Is there ever any reason, ever, to be negative toward children? Model positivity and kindness at all times.
yesssss! I want my daughter to be a Ss in your class!
I had a feeling this was going to go badly! 😝
Marifran! Brian! Hello friends!
A4: Showing them what optimism is not. It is not ignoring problems or suffering. It's having a positive outlook.
Peg, Instruc Coach/Rdg Spec, jumpin' in late!
All change, all transfer of energy, knowledge, information, currency, & emotional capital begins with STORYTELLING.
back on the glitter. If someone brings up spiral notebooks, I'm going to need a walk around the block
Q4?
About the magic of optimism, and sharing that with Ss.
A2x Sometimes I’d make an odd mistake showing how to do something in Flash. Like recording myself singing a silly song to use..
Hi! How goes things in the north?
Positive Feedback and daily acknowledgement makes them feel a part of something.. a community
hello, lady! What's good?!
A4 with our glittery sparkly personalities
A4 We start our day w/ a precept from Wonder (awesome book) and it's always an uplifting, encouraging discussion!
Send her over, accepting new students! LOL
and they are far more perceptive than we give them credit for. Body language & tone betray us!
I HATE spiral notebooks, but use them. *cringe*
A3a Not so much experience using magic i’m afraid. unless.. Know-how can appear to be magical to thems less knowledgeable?
You're right, but some kids make it difficult sometimes. Have to remind yourself the tough ones need MORE love!
we will start good phone call home after winter break. Done it for 2 years now. Best idea from
helps them own their learning...leads to autonomy! Yes yes yes!
I wear mine every day, showed it to my Ss and explained it. We are doing a project using SHINE
Thanks! I need to get that going, too.
A3b In ’74 the first time I saw a Tesla coil (electric arcs in Frankenstein) was cool. Made me want to learn the how.
oh, those instruments of torture are NOT ALLOWED. No. Just.... no.
yeah right-gonna do this next week. Wait...it will have to be Celebrate Tuesday. Monday is our Thanksg… https://t.co/8S3koIr9iA
A5) Use music and songs to elicit emotion, set the tone, transition & soothe.
A5 we use music to learn about phonics and math. We try to make up songs with our drum. Counting songs… https://t.co/XsM2Ffu6XF
Classical movie themes during collaboration time helps focus, brain breaks boogie with Abba, Beatles, Journey
We're celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving on the following Sunday. I'm not Canadian, I just thought it sounded nice.
Ooh! I'm going shopping at the App Store tonight baby! Thanks Zach!
A5: Does playing the intro to Darth Vader when my Ss are about to take a test count?
A5: my fav band is Twenty One Pilots. There lyrics are so deep and clean! At least the ones I've heard
A5 Songs they know can be perfect cleanup cues. You need have desk clear, and be ready to take notes by the end of the song!
We sing the Barney Clean Up Song as we clean, Phinneas & Ferb & Magic School Bus to just have fun!
A4 Optimism? How’d I learn that? Probably finding a present under The Tree & wondering how I made The List? Yeah, that.
Love this idea! https://t.co/IxoG4mYYnX
A5 Songs they know can be perfect cleanup cues. You need have desk clear, and be ready to take notes by the end of the song!
A5: I'll sometimes play some KPop songs for my Korean kids. They are always surprised that I know a little about their bands.
start each day at the door asking a morning meeting question. Love their answers. "What did you have for breakfast?" :)
I love mood music & classical or ethnic for inspiration. Also, Fast tempo when kids are sluggish, slow music to calm down!
A5: start class with music as Ss enter- sets the tone and energizes. Music during indvl/group work helps to focus and soothe 😊
A4 Maybe something like The Dot Book. Thinking I done a wretched job at something & having a teacher find some good in it..
A5 welp, it's not exactly music but is my go to app for calming the savage beasts
A4 Giving Ss that are having a rough day a hug when they need it most.
I just heard one of my Kindergarten teachers singing that song with her students at clean up time today!
A5: Play music during transitions...Ss know how long they have to get to their next station, and they get to listen to music.
Whoah! We had the same thought! I love during a chat!
I make sure and connect with each kid as they come through the door. Then I give them my love for lear… https://t.co/YDn9Znvs5a
I love this idea. Students can suggest songs! (I always google lyrics before playing)
A4 So encouragement in face of [self] doubt i suppose would model optimism.. You know ? +
A5) Anyone re-written a current pop song's lyrics to link with their classroom? It's powerful and fun!
A5: play on---requests, allow older Ss to play music as they work; even take requests.
Love that app for quiet reading time!
A5: uses guitar songs to teach history
When I start to sing so do they and we clean. These are 7th graders and they still love it.
Can I get away with this in secondary? 😊 https://t.co/f50Dv5OuIl
A5 Songs they know can be perfect cleanup cues. You need have desk clear, and be ready to take notes by the end of the song!
Laundry is calling.....sorry to cut out early......have a magical evening!
A5: a T next to me haw Throwback Thursdays w/ music--Ss get to request the song of the day.
like the theme from Rocky?
A4 He suggests having Ss set the value of their work before they start, negotiating with Ts. Then grading it accordingly.
I sing badly ALL the time, and rap marginally as well...
A4: Be your genuine self. Let Ss know who you are
A4 Teacher giving up that power and handing [trust] it over to the student would be seriously optimism building methinks.
Dancing Queen and Happy are my quick transition songs. Gotta teach these kids music from my generation.
Man...it's like I found my teachmate!
A4x Like Papa giving me the keys to the Ford Ranger after I clipped the wall at the church parking lot.
A4: Lots of encouragement, positivity
start with this one every year.
My kids are digging Alexander Hamilton (minus the swear words) right now...
So fun. We use the Element So g by Tom Leher and use it for Human Body, Ecosystems etc. fast tongue twisters
A5 Play musical chairs with more chairs than students?
Oh, gosh yes! Have them pick a song they love.
yes, never hide who you are!
Q6 is trying to judge whether your host has gone off the deep end, or if there's something there... https://t.co/TSoXz06cm8
A5 Or better yet, play musical chairs without the chairs. At I danced when said to. So did 100s of others..
A5: love to stream music in the library - changes w the period & group of Ss (almost always start day w , so mellow)
that's what makes it worth asking LOL! Better to be the fun one than the boring one
Oh gosh, jazz for writing, perfect!
Q6 Teaching is all magic, isn't it? I tell kids I do magic all day long.
activities and songs were great for this!

And? There are no judges here...
Why, oh why, is the wifi so slow ? 😫
Hey ! I've missed you! I spent 10 weeks up at camp this summer and the last 5 starting a new high school program!
we are all about Sam Hunt! in the
dancing queen...sing it baby...
A5 I think it has something to do with “just going with it”.. swaying our bodies to some kinda rhythm. What in school rhythms?
A6 On the idea of Art of teaching vs. Science of teaching, I prefer to fall on the Art line. (I still love science, though!)
Teach states +caps. Mtn.states +caps sung to Scooby Doo. 4 yrs later the co-valedictorians sang it in speech.
Q5 In younger classrooms having a song could be the "magic" to get the students attention and could lead into something else
A6: You CAN'T quantify everything. Bc if this I think some Ts shy away from great learning. It doesn't always = data
A6 Skill comes with experience- Magic comes with optimism, joy, passion, and taking risks to ensure Ss success
Teaching can only be quantified at the most basic levels the art, the magic, the love, that's what makes great teaching
Four day weekends are good 😊 How about you?
A6: Teaching is magical. We get to change lives and impart knowledge at the same time.
I used KC & The Sunshine Band music for a school parade. I saw the kids signing, "That's the way, uh huh, uh huh I like it."
Yes! The Uke! has this FB group. I can’t quite seem to “go there” but many swear by it https://t.co/vKQBvfT8SN
right now it is my ukulele. We sang all of our doubles math facts while singing the Inchworm song yest… https://t.co/VwxuG9JuT8
A6: The ability to search for and find how to teach is out there... What you do with it is magic... https://t.co/g0dF0sNBrY
Q6 is trying to judge whether your host has gone off the deep end, or if there's something there... https://t.co/TSoXz06cm8
Of course we also have a staff ukulele group called Ukelicious. 7 teachers all rockin' the uke in clas… https://t.co/d3JTwuGC82
I've played happy at T PD workshops I run in between sessions!
Love the topic tonight - is my jam! Sorry to have missed most of it, and crew!
ah, yes - and then followed by 5 day weekends! (I'm a little jumpy abt pacing right now, tho)
Yep...we are a grateful bunch!

Q6 is trying to judge whether your host has gone off the deep end, or if there's something there... https://t.co/TSoXz06cm8
A6 The product of our work is greater than the factors. That's mathematically wrong. Magic.
A6: Yes. it's one of those things that's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it.
A5: Seeing my Ss light up when they have those "I got this" moments are always magical.
A4 or is it 5? I play Stars Wars theme when Ting Reformation like really LOUDLY
Minions, right? When I’m traveling cross country now n then i’ll see ‘em. I stop right away and click
A6) Teaching is a magical art form. Not everyone can do it.
A6: Skill, passion, creativity, magic, understanding of children, desire to teach, desire to learn and grow w/ Ss,...
pace yourself it's a crazy month!
My kids LOVE my ukulele, and my silly little tunes!
that must be the grade for it - my T was pure magic, too. Loved that grade when I was at the ES, so maybe it's the Ss
that needs to be a magnet, coffee cup, and bumper sticker! Well said!
Right back at ya! I've missed our weekly check ins via this Twitter place!
sorry to miss the convos tonight, hurricane prepping. are you hunkering down or heading west?
the magic is not innate but surfaces naturally when Ts let go of conventional teaching & listen for curiosity
Wait, hold up Q6 disappeared on me .... magically appear please?
me too. Connections seem to happen through arts much faster for me.
There is no other line! science schmience!
Be safe all of my southern friends!
A6 I think it resolves down to.. what’s that word? You know, that thing one does when one doesn’t know diddly [or forgets]..
So crazy! is next weekend!
I dunno...I'm supposed to be at this weekend, so I have to figure out dog needs...
There is something magical about third grade. For real!!
A6 Vulnerable. Vulnerability. Vulnerableness.
A6. There is definitely more--some come by it almost naturally & others of us have to work for it.
A6 How do teachers get students to commit to something [providing an answer] knowing they might not be right?
I once burst into filk because I couldn't get their attn. They'd never heard me sing, so it shocked em silent.
I think there is magic. You have the spark or you don't. You can do it without the spark but you aren… https://t.co/765R5WPQ6G
I always thought my third grade teacher was magical. She had such an amazing way of connecting w her Ss.… https://t.co/5UWL6DiLYY
First grade is hugs and love, second is crossover and tried is magic.
Good. Still recovering from Ready for some warm weather! Not liking jackets.
bummedbto miss it! Can't usually commit back to back weekends
There is magic everywhere when you stop to look. Let Ss show you the way they are the true 🎩 magicians. https://t.co/PoQjpWBiKW
A6 That’s magic of teaching for me. Not being judge-mental. Sharing a snippet of know-how & asking students to give it a shot..
A6: there is definitely magic to teaching - I see it everyday. Those that the touch have created a magical experience for Ss.
A5: I have an alarm that plays Bye, bye love. When they hear it, they know it's time to clean up and they have 2:30 to be done
Yes! Back in 3rd, and I do see magic on a daily basis
A6x And then they do and it’s wonderful.
Same here!!! Refuse to let go of summer.
