#FLedchat is a virtual meeting place using Twitter. Educators across the state of Florida come together on Wednesdays at 8pm EST to discuss the topics of the week.
Todays #FLedChat topic is professional learning. Good teachers are life-long learners. During the chat we will share some of our favorite places to grow as educators. Get ready for an avalanche of awesome!
A1: One of my memorable professional learning experiences was the time I was introduced to Google Docs. The presenter was extremely hands-on and allowed the group to work collaboratively. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#FLEdChat
A1: @ISTE 2015 in Philly was amazing because I met so many people from my Twitter feed. However, discovering Edcamps really empowered my learning. #FLedChat
A1. When I was part of the conversation that brought to life #2PencilChat is a major one! Also, the session at #EdCampTampBay led by @ProfeEdTech about #teachtheSDGs. Started building my global connections and collaborations from there! #FLedChat
A1. My most memorable learning experiences were those when Richard Allington spoke and guided my learning about literacy. I had been in MS and greatly needed to learn more. #FLedchat
A1. Also attended a conference in Springfield, IL about 25 years ago with those who were the "movers and shakers" in the field of technology. We were to design a school of the future. Their brilliance had me in awe! #FLedchat
A2: It wasn't a typical PD book. "Please Stop Laughing at Me" by Jodee Blanco changed my outlook completely. From there, I have branched out to others, but that book remains my catalyst read. #FLedChathttps://t.co/rXrRRIBuHK
A2: I also have begun looking outside of education for books that could be applied to my classroom. Many leadership/business/entrepreneur books can also apply. #FLedChat
Yes!! I did this about two years ago when my mother was in hospice and I sat beside her each day. I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up books related to the areas I thought I needed the most help with. I sure learned LOTS! #FLedchat
A3. Hope educators will jump on board with this summer professional learning opportunity!! #FAR The specifics are in this blog post I wrote the other day https://t.co/AAAObdC9nT#FLedchat
A3: This year, my summer learning isn't so much professional as personal. I'm learning how to lay tile, do carpentry, change out light fixtures, etc. I do believe this can help me in the classroom. Learning outside of our comfort zone is a good thing. #FLedChat
A3. This summer, for emergence, I've started my first Microsoft Innovative Educator - Expert cohort! 18 educators in five Microsoft Schools on pathway to MIE-Expert and Microsoft Certified Educator certification. #FLedChat
A3. There are SO many educators who can't attend conferences but have a huge desire to learn with others. We hope #FAR and all of the books/authors will help with this challenge. #FLedchat
I sure know of a podcast I think you will love! https://t.co/HjTChjKQM4 It would be fantastic if every educator who was going to attend a conference this summer listened to it before going. Their learning would be enriched and the knowledge of those "back at the ranch!" #FLedchat
A3. Looking forward to presenting and learning at #ST4T in June and possibly leading a couple of sessions and learning at some district PD. Lots of reading at the beach as well. Need to catch up on my podcasts too! #FLedChat
Twitter is such an amazing place to learn! If those attending the conferences listen to the podcast I shared and follow the ten suggestions, you and I will be learning TONS at home. #FLedchat
A4: I haven't been too turned into podcasts. I have however been having great conversations on Voxer with educators from around the world. Thanks to #EduMatch.
#FLedChat
A4: There are several great blogs and podcast, but I have gained so much from the PD that is provided through my Linkedin account. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#FLEdChat
Q5: Do you have any edTech “badges” (#ADE, #GoogleCE, #GoogleCT, #MIE, etc) Are these badge programs good professional learning opportunities? #FLedChat
A5. Last summer, when just beginning #BookCampPD , I sent out badges to those participating - greatly appreciating their participation in something so new. Now I post the responses to chat questions https://t.co/H1wN8JmJ0g as all responses are marvelous #FLedchat
This summer I am leading two Google Certification Academies in Florida. One in the Jacksonville area and one in Orlando. Details: https://t.co/SSOd0k4NLq#FLedChat
John, you are so right on! This is the greatest transformative age in technology yet. These badges prove Connected Educators = Connected Students. #FLedChat
Q5: Do you have any edTech “badges” (#ADE, #GoogleCE, #GoogleCT, #MIE, etc) Are these badge programs good professional learning opportunities? #FLedChat
A5: I have the Certified trainer and starting on Flipgrid. My next goal is to become Apple Certified. The badges are great, but it is what you do with that knowledge that will make the difference. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#FLEdChat

A6: Find a community of people that have earned the badge you are looking for. For example: Teachers Using GSuite for Edu on Facebook https://t.co/09wtbClYqP#FLedChat
A7. All involved in advancing their own learning by reading books could be mentioned here! Just jump into #BookCampPD - I have a list I can share with you. They are amazing! Each week @conniehamilton and @Rdene915 inspire me to continue improving #FLedchat
Facebook is a relatively untapped resourced for teacher support, IMO. I have a Chromebook page for supporting teachers: https://t.co/kFuwhEY341#FLedChat
Inspire is such a powerful word ... my illiterate mom creating a company that did a million dollars in sales last year ... that inspires me ... an educator sharing "X" ideas about Z is good information, but is it inspirational? #fledchat
I am trying to collect a list of Facebook Groups that support Education. It's not always easy to find them inside the platform.

You inspire me when you pose questions that cause me to reflect about a tweet I have posted. I appreciate your deeper levels of thinking about issues. #FLedchat
This is the amazing author who will be joining #BookCampPD this Saturday morning at 9:00 EST. Such important messages are shared in his book. #FLedchat
Thank You. Twitter is a like a massive round table discussion where ideas are being fired from every direction ... every idea gets better when it is bounced off someone else. #fledchat
