Sorry. Verbosity is the curse of the English major. So many options! (And I just submitted tenure review portfolio so itās representative of my #busybrain) #oklaed
A2: I successfully completed 2 Components of National Board Certification (& 1 less successfully...). No New Year's Resolutions - trying to make changes as they are needed. #oklaed
A2 #oklaed We passed a $130.6 million dollar bond issue in October. This will improve instruction, create a more efficiently-run district, and upgrade our facilities incredibly. #MDPurpose
A2: 2017 resolutions: Wanted to read more-- did but not enough. Wanted to spend more time with family... and that was better.
Wanted to lose weight... #notsomuch. #oklaed
A2 I helped some of my students find their voices, listened to them, fed them, pushed them, and I hope inspired them to become what they are capable of being. And I got a little bit better, I think. I hope to continue that process... #oklaed#reThinkELA

A2 Heck, yeah! Started grad school, did some serious physical and mental decluttering, started (and continuing) a successful health revamp, renewed my National Board Certification, AND spoke at graduation without embarrassing myself! #oklaed
A2: I feel like Iāve been a pretty great Mom! I also started my masters, then had to put it on hold, Iāll get back to it eventually! #2017goals#oklaed
A2: Not a resolution guy. Lol. Personally: sent our 1st kid to college. Professionally: learned a lot about myself and the endless opportunities Iļø have to impact kids in a positive way. #oklaed
A2: Personally: I maintained my #runstreak & ran every day of the year, and I achieved a PR in the @OKCMarathon half! Also, I donāt make resolutions, I receive #oneword...and my 2017 was filled with finding JOY in celebrations and hardships! #oklaed
A2: At the beginning of the school year I resolved not to bring any grading home. I was mostly successful. So far only one set of essays came home. #oklaed
A3) Best thing is my son being born! Most challenging is balancing family, work, masters courses, more work, and even more work, and masters portfolio. #oklaed
A3 - Most amazing was the month I spent in Chicago learning from some amazing scholars and colleagues across the country. The most challenging thing was being in Chicago for a month and away from @TheMrsGragg and our three lovely children. #oklaed
Best thing was the first full year of marriage (amazing), challenging was changing school & grade (but so rewarding!) Never saw myself leaving but ended up being a great choice. And I love 3rd grade! #oklaed
#oklaed A1: I don't make resolutions; I think about solutions. I think about what can I do each day that will make a difference and put that idea into action.
Achieved my goal of becoming Miss Owasso and representing my hometown at the state level. In the midst of #okleg chaos, I get to spend the year promoting my platform āRevitalizing Oklahoma Educationā! Big things ahead #oklaed
A3: Best thing: clearly my baby! Most challenging: honestly, my job! Trying to keep up with a baby, household, busy husband, and teaching has been tough! #oklaed
A:3 For our school, both were the creation of our Early College High School program. Staring last week, 50 freshman are working towards getting an Associate's degree on the same night as their HS diploma! #oklaed
A3: 1. Observing all of these amazing OK teachers here on Twitter and Professional Development events (Thanks Dr. Searcy). 2. Teaching lessons for the first time as an intern. #oklaed
A3: Best thing - student of mine made a mistake, went to jail, was going to be charged as an adult, but through advocacy we got that to a youthful offender deal. His mom has become part of our family and I'm fully realizing how amazing life is when we are good neighbors #oklaed
A3 best? Um...Iām going to say that Iām fortunate to have too many to pick just one. Worst? Anything to do with the nonsense at 23rd and Lincoln. #oklaed
A3: Seeing my spouse (who is a genius in his field) get sought out by some big guns to consult was pretty boss. Challenge was ...minor. 2017 was pretty good to me #oklaed
A2: for me, the best was becoming a member of the @NAESP Board of Directors and Zone 8 Director. The hardest was examining my priorities and making sure I put family first. #oklaed
A3) The single best thing was paying off all our debts (except mortgage & student loan). The most challenging was/is leading a school in a way that ensures the best possible outcome for our students. #oklaed
A3 The best thing was finally figuring out how to connect with my students in a way that lead to them learning more. The most challenging was losing some of them in spite of that. #oklaed#reThinkELA
A3: best - challenged my leadership skills; most challenging- was Principal of 2 Elementary schools during 2nd semester... very rewarding and a lot of work #oklaed
A2: Not big on resolutions. But Iāve achieved a lot in 2017. I successfully taught a year of AP Lit added a new course for the school year. I traveled to England, Scotland, Canada, and Mexico which keeps me sane. #oklaed
A3: Best thing: enjoying what you do every day. Challenging: Iļø think challenges just allow you to learn about yourself and those around you. Iļø do know the Oklahoma political narrative concerning education is getting old. #oklaed
A4: Helping International Students with their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. 2. I plan on doing my best to help anyone I can in any shape or form. #oklaed
A4: I think teaching is the kindest service but this year I truly fell in love with it..that's the greatest service I can give. And this year, I'm planning tutoring and parent involvement nights once a month. It's a true test of being kind with my time. #oklaed
A4 just my extra-curricular work with Key Club and Youth Leadership Murray County. This year I hope to coordinate a successful book drive and get one of my KC members elected to a district office #oklaed
To help #oklaed, #windpower industry offered in 2014 to phase out all incentives in OK and we worked with #OKLeg to do that. No new projects can qualify. āBusiness community" insiders club needs to end some of its own incentives and tax breaks before attacking others. Need list?

#oklaed A3: My fourth grandchild being born was the single best thing. Being a chauffeur for my teenage daughter has been a challenge. I get home late every night.
A4) We kept the tradition of performing for Veterans Center in Claremore, actually went back a 2nd time. Also got to be a part of a food give away for about 100 families for the 4th time. Also went and fed homeless with a friendās ministry. It was a blessed year. #oklaed
A4 - goes back to my answer for Q3 - I've been devoted to continuing to develop relationships/encourage former students who are in prison. I believe I have to continue to advocate once they leave my classroom & I want them to know they have a safe space when they get out #oklaed
A4 #oklaed - 2017 - Showing tough love to my students
2018- Showing tough love to my students.... "Ms. You are the only teach that actually makes us do work." lol I love hearing them whine and complain as they grow.
A2) I wanted to be more present/intentional in all things I do in my life. Especially when it comes to my boys. I know it helped me think about this but there is always room for improvement. #oklaed
A4- I would say being a Foster Parent for my service. I really want to go to another city and help. My wife did this year and it was an amazing experience so I would like to try it too!! #oklaed#fostercare
A4: (professional) 2017: @OK_PSRC support of personalized learning-- success and challenges-- was great. 2018: Continue to expand cost saving solutions and support for schools. #oklaed
A3: Best thing was being voted Teacher of the Year for my school. Most challenging is teaching AP Government in this climate; challenging but necessary. #oklaed
A3: Best and most challenging: Settling into my second year at a new school teaching a new subject, and first full year as a stepmom and a mom. #oklaed
A4 I think the service my kids most appreciated was providing snacks and access to my microwave on a daily basis. I plan to continue this, along with a couple of other projects that will help my students/former students achieve their goals. #oklaed
A4: I think that being consistent and present and available to all
Ss is a high calling and a great service. I have dreams of organizing a math outreach day for our district... #oklaed
Q3: #oklaed#pdbearchat - Best, son got married and got teacher of the year. Worst, same son fell head first off of a 30 ft waterfall on his honeymoon! š¤ (heās going to be ok, praise God!)
A4) I look for opportunities to serve through my church. In the coming year I will be looking to serve Alternative Education as the President-elect of the Oklahoma Schools Alternative Education Association. #oklaed
A4) P(ersonal): 2017: Started tutoring high school students and that was fun. 2018: Goal to donate blood every month. Also interested in volunteering with CASA #oklaed
A3: So many good things happened. Itād be tough to name them all. As far as challenging items, losing long time friends because I donāt see political issues like they do. I guess Iām a tad too āblueā for them. #oklaed
A4: I absolutely LOVE to volunteer for my church. It is something that spreads love and joy and brings it back ten-fold. @TheEdgeChurchTV in Clinton and now @lifechurch in Norman.
Plus, @k20center is very charity driven and we are always contributing to amazing causes. #oklaed
A3: Best thing. Being a part of a senior group Iāve known since the 5th grade and winning an undefeated HS state championship #CANation. The most challenging: to move schools within the school year and establishing relationships w/ Tās, Sās, and Pās. #oklaed
A2: To Be Impeccable with my words... I feel I spoke ill of no man, spoke only the truth, challenged by new job situations that had me looking back at my words and pondering #oklaed
#OklaEd A4: Listening to understand and contribute, not to defend any particular position. Am seeking to get involved somehow with Chesterfield County Public Schools - addressing issues important to them.
A4: this is a hard question for me, I selfishly focused so much on my family/new daughter in 2017. I always care and am there for my students though! #oklaed
A3) the best thing in 2017 was watching my favorite group of students, most of whom I have been working with for 4 years, walk across the graduation stage during a time when so much of what they were seeing on TV was so negativity pointed at them and prove it all wrong #oklaed
A5) I grew as a father by learning to balance time between 2 kids, spouse by spending more time with my wife, coworker by being more relational, leader by getting close to finishing my masters! #oklaed
A3) I cant think of one amazing thing that stands out but the most challenging was finding out my best friend had bone cancer and wouldnāt be with us much longer. #oklaed
A3: The single best professional thing was also the biggest challenge, changing roles within my school... change isnāt easy, but itās necessary in order the grow and progress #oklaed
A2: 2017 was a great year for fulfilling personal resolutions and goals 1. I was blessed to be declared cured (arteriovenous malformation free) . 2. I finished my PhD 3. I lost 30 pounds and feel healthier than ever. #OklaEd
A2: 2017 was a great year for fulfilling personal resolutions and goals 1. I was blessed to be declared cured (arteriovenous malformation free) . 2. I finished my PhD 3. I lost 30 pounds and feel healthier than ever. #OklaEd
As a teacher, I tried a lot of new things. I made building relationships a priority & I love my kids & our classroom community. I continue to try to be creative even when others donāt agree. #oklaed
A5: I grew a lot as an educator but I need to do better at being a better friend. Work/life balance is hard for teachers! Shout out all my friends who understand my crazy work schedule during non-summer months #oklaed
A5 I've become more relaxed in my classroom with my Ss and it has been amazing. They seem less stressed and I know I am. I am trying to look at more big picture things in my school, rather than the day-to-day stuff #oklaed
#oklaed A4: I want my Ss to think about how to help people, so I have to set the example. While my Ss wrote sonnets, I wrote one for Ts & passed them out to the Ts in my building. This year, I want to start a Books in Action Club where Ss read books & complete a service project.
A4: Link Crew which mentors freshmen is my favorite personal and professional volunteering opportunity. I get to do it with my bff @rachterry1006 and itās a game changer at our school. #oklaed
A5: I have been able to make deeper connections with some of my students (not all!). I also made a rule to not grade at home until my daughter was in bed. #oklaed
A4: Assisted teachers outside of my district on my own time. I would like to start a helpful youtube channel for educators wanting to improve instruction and classroom management. #Oklaed
A5 oh gosh...it was a year of growth on nearly every level. Iād at least say that I have a better understanding of and appreciation for the complexity of public education, at least at the building and district levels. #oklaed
A5) I grow daily to become a better person. This past year I have tried to listen more to others and find solutions to problems with the help of others. I strive to be a better educator, husband, father, brother, and overall person who is slow to anger. #oklaed
A5 - I grew by learning when to say no so that I could be the best mom, wife, and teacher I could be. I grew by beginning grad school to achieve some bigger professional goals. I'm proud of me this last year and even prouder of what is in store for 2018! #oklaed
A5: I grew as a teacher candidate by working with those who are better than me, those who I stand in front of, those who I call friends, and those you need help but are not willing to admit it, myself included. #oklaed
A5 - Hopefully I became a better Dad, a better Husband, a better friend, and a better educator. I try to grow in those areas daily and will continue to this year. #oklaed
A5 280 characters isn't nearly enough to describe all of the personal and professional growth I experienced last year. Lots of great mentors and Ss. I expect that curve to only increase this year... #oklaed
A5 I was able to figure out my mission this year. Not only did I realize that I'm teaching kids, not a subject (my subject is just a tool I use to help them grow), but I realized that I am here to amplify student voices and choices. #oklaed#rethinkela
A5: Two areas of focus have been and will continue to be (1) practicing humility and gratitude (2) Be present in conversations. Worked on it in 2017 but plenty of room for growth. #oklaed
A5- As a parent, two of my kids are at my school this year. This had led to great humbling personally and professionally as my relations with students take on an added depth since they are also my kid's friends. It matters so much, and now I see how much more it matters #Oklaed
A5: I am being really stretched as an educator in my new role at K20 and I have grown tremendously already, with much more ground to cover.
Iāve also vowed to have more undistracted time with my family and I have made strides there. Not perfect, but making progress! #oklaed
A5: as a leader, took on the challenge of taking a struggling school & getting them back on track in a short amount of time... still have a long way to go but am so proud of the staff.#oklaed
A5: I grew, thatās for sure! I became more mindful in setting priorities and putting my family HIGH on the list, I gained patience in caring for my 91 year old grandma, and I grew my PLN with LOTS of inspirational/amazing connections! #oklaed
Q4:#oklaed#pdbearchat Iāll list the ones my class was involved in- adopted a Texas class hit by hurricane, adopted a gorilla in Africa, partnered with Childrenās Craniofacial Association to āadoptā 3 kids with disabilities for the school year, &did project for WaterforSudan ā¤ļø
A4: I provide an ear to all who needs one. Iām going to try and be a better listener to all of those folks who feel they have no one to talk to. Many times, they are my students. #oklaed
A5 To continue growing, I'm taking grad classes at OU in the Spring and Summer, and plan to earn my Master's degree. Perhaps even a doctorate. My goal is to try to find ways to reach student writers. #oklaed
A5- Started taking coaching classes for growth this year. Have really been looking at ways to make our HS more innovative with our limited resources. Seeing if we can get out of our students way to let them achieve more. #oklaed
A5. Continued to unpack my own biases/prejudices and multiple identities. Became more culturally responsive in my classroom and challenged my school to do the same. Read and wrote more. #oklaed
A5: Two areas of focus have been and will continue to be (1) practicing humility and gratitude (2) Be present in conversations. Worked on it in 2017 but plenty of room for growth. #oklaed
A5: I grow every single day in my job, something new and challenging creeps in, my family grew by 2 more members, being a MIL & Gram is exciting and challenging too š #lifeiswhatyoumakeit#oklaed
A5: As a leader I transitioned from the classroom to an admin in the same school I taught in. I gave up coaching track but soon found I loved being an administrator. Personal--I completed my first marathon. #oklaed
A4) I lead/managed a group of 29K Oklahomans to advocate for teachers & public ed. I will be doing this same thing in 2018. I refuse to give up until things are better for kiddos & educators! #oklaed
#OklaEd A5: As an EDUCATOR with no classroom, I spend time listening and reading teachersā concerns. I seek to help them focus those concerns and to support them with suggestions / feedback. To be of value, I work to build my personal thinking on improving learning & use of it!
A4)Trying to be intentional in every interaction I had with children during field experiences, observations, volunteering, & babysitting. This year I hope to partner with the Owasso Education Foundation, current teachers, and any OK lawmaker who will give me their timeš¤š¼#oklaed
A5: The importance of listening in each those roles. Big deal for me in ā17, will be in ā18 too. Sometimes thatās all people need....is someone to listen. #oklaed
#oklaed#pdbearchat A5: grew as an educator by doing more PD, more service learning projects and more STEM, also by letting the kids take more control/ownership of our lessons
A6: Not everyone sees things the way I do, not everyone enjoys my enthusiasm for new ideas, not everyone is on the same page, but life goes on and so do I #oklaed
#oklaed A5: I am a person who thinks of ideas, but never puts a lot of those ideas into action. As I am getting closer to 50, I want to get out of the shadows and lead the change.
A6: Education is a process, not a product. Students should have the opportunity to produce their best work and not compromise the integrity of their work due to a deadline. #oklaed
A6: That sometimes you canāt be all things to all people at all times and you just have to let go of it sometimes and just let it be. It all works out and you learn much more in the process. #oklaed
A5: I grew as an educator by learning from amazing educators. I started teaching a new subject last school year and my colleagues prepared me and picked me up so many times when I messed up! #oklaed
A6: I learned that preparation is super important and one little hospital stay can be mitigated by having your laptop handy! Oh yeah, but it started with learning to take better care of myself in the first place. #oklaed
A6 uncertainty isnāt inherently bad. Just because you donāt understand something now doesnāt mean thereās not an important reason for it. Youāll figure it out when youāre ready to understand it. #oklaed
A6) I learned that I do not have all the answers and that I need to rely on others to assist on issues that depend on their performance if we are to affect students in a positive way and respect our educating staff at the same time. #oklaed
A6 - Biggest thing I've learned that I will carry with me is to continue to give Ss a blank slate every single day - they need a save environment to make mistakes as people too, not just academically. #oklaed
A5) I finally learned how to unplug from advocacy when needed to focus on aspects of my life which has made me a better parent and has done wonders for my sanity. #oklaed
A6: I learned that its okay to walk away and let anger/frustrations/resentments go. Still have plenty to grow in this area but when I practice this, life is so much better. #oklaed.
A6 - Biggest thing I've learned that I will carry with me is to continue to give Ss a blank slate every single day - they need a save environment to make mistakes as people too, not just academically. #oklaed
A6: That sometimes you canāt be all things to all people at all times and you just have to let go of it sometimes and just let it be. It all works out and you learn much more in the process. #oklaed
A5: As a parent, I learned that you have to be willing to change the rules with traumatized kids; As a friend, I learned to not overcommit... still have room to grow; As an educator, I learned how to ask better questions! #oklaed
A6) If you can't do anything at all about it, don't complain. If you can take even the smallest action to make something better, do it. The kids are watching. #oklaed
A5: Having a 14 year old daughter has taught me just how much of a pain in the rear I must have been to my folks. Through her Iāve learned that sometimes itās better to not say anything than to open my big mouth. 14 yr old girls are viscous things..#oklaed
A5: I feel like Iāve become a better listener as a leader. And in ā18 I hope to be an improved friend, partner, educator, coworker, leader and parent! #oklaed
A6 #Oklaed The new blood is good. Trust them with more opportunities and use their fresh energy to push yourself to keep growing. Thier mistakes are my learning opportunities as well.
A7 We would get rid of all standardized testing, start funding social services, and focus on helping each child understand how they are unique and how they can make a positive impact in their lives, the lives of their families, and their communities. #oklaed
A7 - That education would become equitable for ALL children!! That regardless of where they come from, they would have what they need to be successful. No more school to prison pipeline. #oklaed
#oklaed A6: I suggested to @watersenglish to start the #rethinkela Thursday night chats, and I helped her with the first podcast. I also teamed up with @DewinterAmber on an adventure that I hope someday will work for our Ss.
A7: Honestly, I just want more resources for my kids. Not even me, just the kids. They need better teachers, better supplies, safe places, food, less curriculum & more LEARNING, they need understanding, & fun (I can go on..) #oklaed
A5: Oh! I thought of another one. I grew as an educator by seeing the homework my 2nd grade stepson brought home. āWait! They start learning about authorās purpose here?! My kids should totally be able do this!ā #oklaed
A7 funding is a nice answer, but I'm going to say value. We hear often that education is valued in our state, but the evidence of that value doesn't exist, currently. It's time to get it back #oklaed
A7: Better treatment and recognition of our teachers in regards to pay, respect, their voices, and the profession as a whole. By doing this, we can keep people here in Oklahoma to enhance the lives of our students, our communities, and each other. #oklaed
A6) Iāve learned that I donāt need everyone to agree with or like my methods for advocacy. Iāve now seen what gratitude and building bridges can accomplish and itās all the reassurance I need to stick with it despite the critics. #oklaed
A5) I learned a lot about the kind of educator I want to be and the kind of person I want to be. I know who I am and where Iām going, but I also learned a lot about who I never want to be. Oh the joys of being 21 #oklaed
A7 the magic education fairy is going to give me smaller classes (even if that means teaching the same number of kids, just spread out more) so I can interact more with my kids and do a better job of focusing instruction. #oklaed
A7 #oklaed I want our district to focus on THE WHOLE CHILD. It's not just a theme for the year. It's an approach to every situation we face in education.
A7) I would change the mistrust that educators receive so that all educators feel the respect they deserve for the services they perform. This would affect my students by having more public support in communities and the home for my students. #oklaed
#OklaEd A7: I would eliminate all grading. It would eliminate any emphasis on right / wrong and put emphasis on Effective Learning and use of the same to address meaning situations.
Taking 200 @oascok members to serve at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank in December truly opened my eyes to the NEED (175000 served per week) and how tenuous its survival would be should donations stop. I want to share that with so many more people. #oklaed
A7: Funding for more and higher-quality resources for my students. I want my students to have an experience that prepares them to absolutely rock it in college and the workforce. #oklaed
#oklaed A7: My one wish is to redesign high school to fit the career paths of all Ss. What I learned in high school 30 years ago just doesn't fit today's Ss.
A7) Increase teacher pay and per pupil funding to the regional average. This would be a game changer in #oklaed Teachers are the most important tool we have in the classroom. We have to recruit and retain!!
A7: To remove all barriers and stressors associated with identifying student outcomes. Then, students can be mentored to develop true life skills that will help them in their current reality as a young adult, AND their future endeavors as an adult. One size fits one. #oklaed
A7: Iād fund education in this state with the monies it truly needs for the majority of its students to thrive. Maybe by having certain educational items that our schools canāt afford currently, we could reach those who slip through the cracks. #oklaed
A7: Less emphasis on testing!!! Let teachers get back to basics and enjoy teaching without being judged by test scores. Students may actually get to just live and learn. Make mistakes and make adjustments instead of just focusing on their test results. Pay raise. #oklaed
A8: I actually read for pleasure over break šš¼ but I listen to a LOT of ed podcasts & I did read Hacking Engagement from the @hackmylearning series. Good stuff. #oklaed
A8: Just finished a fun novel "The Force." Its crime fiction and was for fun but the main character's hubris as a public servant (cop) was insightful. #oklaed
A8: āStart with Whyā by Simon Sinek. It made me dig deep and find my own reasons for why Iām driven in this industry. I know why I want to do great things and that makes all the difference! #oklaed
A8) I find that I read more Tweets and articles that impact what I do than books. I just do not have the time to sit and read right now but I will in the near future and then I will find something. #oklaed
A8 - Currently reading Ta-neishi Coates "We Were 8 Years in Power" -not a book about teaching, but serves as another reminder I'm doing my students a disservice if they don't read books by people who look like them #oklaed
A7 #oklaed Autonomy for teachers to innovate for their students, includes: freedom from financial strain, freedom from perceptions of incompetence, freedom from artificial curriculum requirements, freedom from unnecessary & uninformative testing, freedom from poor leadership.
A8) Loved the format of #empower by Spencer/Juliani. But most recently read #yalit Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by @Dusti_Bowling about teen w/no arms and another w/Tourettes. That def changed how I view Ss w/dis. #oklaed
A7: I would make every #oklaed teacher feel appreciated and valued. Put respect back into the profession. Make teacher candidates excited about entering the profession despite the current circumstances. Enthusiastic teachers make for enthusiastic students. #oklaed
A8: I have re-read "Terence, This is Stupid Stuff" by A.E. Housman. When people ask me why all of this "English" stuff is important, I explain this poem to them and how it connects to their lives. #oklaed
A7. All educators and leaders participate in critical discourse about diversity, equity and inclusion. Makes teaching more relevant for kids we are serving. #oklaed
#oklaed A8: Likes vs Legacy by @mikesmithlive. This book fits perfectly with the senior project, and my seniors will read this book and put what they learn into action. I want them to make a difference and not worry about how popular they are on social media.
A9 - Each would have students. Each would have me. But my room is now better set up to maximize collaboration and peer based learning, not centered around me, #oklaed
A9 The first classroom photo would look like a normal classroom with tables in groups. The 2nd one would look more like Starbucks with flexible seating options and students comfortably engaging in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. #oklaed#rethinkela
A8: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø changed me deeply when read with The New Jim Crow itās power personified. To understand the systematic oppression regarding mass incarceration especially in OK which has the largest pop of incarcerated women is necessary. #oklaed
A9 - #oklaed - I think because growth has been the theme for 2017 and looks to be the theme for 2018... it would probably be the same picture of the ant pushing the boulder up the hill
A9:
2017 photo would show students in a little more structured, traditional environment
2018 photo would show organized chaos as I have implemented full-blown PBL! #oklaed
A8- Iām hoping for some sort of job change this year so hopefully my classroom would be better prepped for younger kids! I also continue to grow my classroom library (thanks scholastic) and I plan to integrate more flexible seating! #oklaed
A9 #oklaed Hopefully we would see more students finding their voice, more schools with inclusive climates, and more teachers determined to stick around for much, much longer.
A9: Youād see students smiling and having fun in both pics. You would see more students in my class in the 2018 pic. I have 53 kiddos in my Concert Choir and I love them all!!! #oklaed
A9 The first classroom photo would look like a normal classroom with tables in groups. The 2nd one would look more like Starbucks with flexible seating options and students comfortably engaging in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. #oklaed#rethinkela
#oklaed donāt feel bad if you donāt have time to be reading. Life is hard. I have 2 foster babies so right now all I can read is the novel I read daily to my 4ths.. no shame! No judgment!
A8 I did a lot of reading for pleasure as well over the break. Will be referring to this chat for ideas as I re-jumpstart my professional reading in the new year. #oklaed
People - I need your help! Share this donors choose for me! Code LIFTOFF doubles donations up to $50. High schoolers need flexible seating as well! @okcthunder if you are looking for a donors choose, I got you :) https://t.co/sFOrwYiftD
A7: I would give all districts the resources to find new ways to organize school. Do all kids of the same age have to be in the same grade? Does ELA and history and world language have to be taught in separate classrooms at different times? #oklaed
A9: No classroom, but office... looks much to same, my one word posters and reminders changed from impeccable to Still, strategic plan posters up now will post progress notes on them #oklaed
A9: The static objects in my room would be the same (unless my Donors Choose project is funded soon!), but my students should be moving and talking more in 2018 - more engaged. #oklaed
A8: This is bad to say but, I donāt sit and read books. Iām a hardcore console gamer from way back. My dad was probably right when he told me Iād need to go through some sort of rehab to quit playing them. #oklaed
A8) The Passionate Teacher by Robert L. Fried. It was catered more towards high school teachers, but definitely a good read for any teacher at any level. #oklaed
The book is called Growing Invisible Voices, and it's about finding hidden writers in your classes. The book includes my support as an OWP TC, along with eligibility to submit your students' writing into our contest. You can read more here: https://t.co/U7ngB6C4dZ#oklaed
#OklaEd A9: For 2017, it would be the storage box for all student smart phones; for 2018, it would be students using smart phone to address situations meaningful to them and the planet - with those students using their smart phones inappropriately storing theirs until see value!
A10: I have taught my students empathy and problem-solving. So proud of that! I've learned that it's time to step it up and show students they can achieve even more! #oklaed
A10: taught: how to shake hands and make eye contact (practicing tomorrow) during morning meeting. Learned: Community in the classroom is more important than basically w everything else #oklaed
A10: My students learned that I am willing to work with them when they have cause - but that I'm essentially their boss and will act like it if they don't hold up their end of the bargain. #oklaed
A9 2017-No configuration to the classroom for about a week and then student chosen
2018-Still student choice but different arrangement of students #oklaed
A9: #oklaed#pdbearchat Same: both would have busy, messy kids talking and interacting! Different in 2018- hopefully bigger and messier interactions š
A10 with the help of several others taught 40 1-6 graders in our Wednesday night group the joy of giving to others when they packed and shipped over 100 Christmas shoeboxes #oklaed
#oklaed A9: I want to do a picture for when I started teaching in 1991 & then what it would be now. In the past, it would be like a traditional classroom with rows of desks & students who just sit and be quiet. Now, I have tables, discussions, Ss get up and move, and creativity.
A10 I hope I have taught my students that they are valuable and worth listening to and being respected. I also hope that I have learned how to be the one that listens to them and respects them. I want to teach others how to do the same. #oklaed
A10: As a mom, Iāve taught my kiddos to be independent & learn skills like doing laundry & cooking. I hope to continue to teach students to be kind, generous and hard-working. #oklaed
A10: Consistency and Integrity. I do this through being firm but fair with everyone. And in all that I do and say, I consistently act with dignity and compassion. #oklaed
A10: Iāve tried to let kids know thatās itās ok to make a mistake as long as you learn from it. And Iāve learned the same thing....itās ok to fail, get up and try again. #oklaed
A10: To think for themselves. It also doesnāt matter if you just understand your POV. Also the danger of letting someone else tell your story. I learn everyday: Empathy. Love. Forgiveness. #oklaed
A11: My goal is to teach Zumba to our local boys and girls club to connect with students I don't see everyday. Got my Zumba certification and learning my routines! #zumba#oklaed
A10: I hope that I have taught that everyday should be an exciting learning adventure for both Ts & Ss, I have learned that having positive relationships w\Ts is just as important as relationships w\Ss #oklaed
A11 - I have more goals than resolutions. I want to get the fellowship I am applying for to pay for grad school, get into my top choice for grad school, become Google certified, be in training for a half marathon, revamp my website/blog #oklaed
A10: I teach them that they have value and are worthy of respect (while giving them respect). I have learned that they need my respect, and empathy, and mentoring and role-modeling -- from me and all of us -- at least as much as they need the content. #OklaEd
A11- Not a big resolution person, I believe reflection must be constant to be an effective educator...I want to always be better than I was the day before! #oklaed
A10: #oklaed#pdbearchat : #CHOOSEKIND !!! Itās been threaded into every lesson, novel, service learning project, and conversation! What I learned: they get it, they can do it, and it makes them happy and proud!
I am proud to announce that I will be moderating the #oklaed awards in two weeks during the chat. Tweet category suggestions to me and tune in to nominate your favorites!
A10) I taught by example that when you've found something you love, you'll show up and give it your best even on your worst days. I learned that our brand new principal loves to say Yes and that has made for an awesome place to work. #oklaed
#oklaed A11: One idea I want for this year is for @elonmusk to create a classroom like the Holodeck from Star Trek, The Next Generation. It would be so cool to show a scene from a piece of literature & have Ss interact with it. @DewinterAmber
#OklaEd A10: Not in classroom ... BUT if I were, Iād facilitate studentsā development of skills of lifelong learning as well as subsequent formal learning - at least Effective Learning, problem solving, communicating, and working in groups!! SO IMPORTANT!!!!
