#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
Hi #BadgeChat. Nate here to listen for how the badges community can help recognize what's awesome about connected educators. A1: Thanks to @houshuang for being an inspirational educator willing to try new things, build new tools as he goes.
A1) There are so many! It's why we created #CEduAD. If we had to pick a few, it would be our leadership team of @Butkovicedu, @fillthegaplearn, @cassiereederedu. But like them, we've been influenced and inspired by so many. Thank YOU! #BadgeChat
A1) Cheers #CEduAD. I think in the past while a really great connected educator I have contacted is @educatoralex. She really helped me see it is important not to be shy about my skills. A second educator would be @cassiereederedu her enthusiasm is infectious! #BadgeChat
It's going to be a virtual event with live video panel discussions that anyone can watch and chat with the panelists, or you can choose to join via Twitter too. More information is on https://t.co/9Eo10PEL7r#CEduAD

@ottonomy, @Butkovicedu, @fillthegaplearn, @cassiereederedu
A2) I like quote, "None of us is as smart as all of us." It really sums up the reason, and need, for connectedness. Connections can give us support, a second opinion, a review of a new resource or best practice for using it. Hard to find all that in a school. #badgechat#CEduAD
A3) Connections have the power to remove barriers: physical limitations like mobility or remoteness; local cultural bias that might not exist elsewhere; mindsets within a system that 'keep you in your place' when you want to grow. #BadgeChat
As one of our #CEduAD panelists, @AngelaMaiers has been known to say, the smartest one in the room, is the room. Being connected helps us make that a pretty endless opportunity room. #BadgeChat
#badgechat A3 Opening up the possibilities for new ways to organize learning. Perhaps the course and the program will break down as the metaphors organizing higher ed.
A3) The Internet was available back when I started teaching but social media was not and video conferencing was in its infancy, except in movies. The tools that are available for connecting now are as natural as the telephone was when I was younger, we must use them. #badgechat
A4) Recognition, whether we seek it or not, means something. Imagine completing ___ years of study and then having no evidence of effort or accomplishment. We are the innovators. Let's let others see we exist and encourage conversation. #BadgeChat
re:Q4 #badgechat Where would being able to display some received recognition make the biggest difference in a connected educator's career, or even their Monday?
A4) If you've ever been part of the #MicrosoftEdu Community, you will know all about the pleasure of achieving and displaying what you have achieved. But also, it's a great way to show those who are less connected that you can get them closer to where you are. #CEduAD#badgechat
Huge Apologies to all my #badgechat amigos! Got pulled away on something important right before the chat and couldn't manage the chat at same time. SORRY!!! Luckily, all is resolved on the other issue but I hate that I no-showed on y'all! Will make it up to you next week!
