#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
A1: I had to Google it in order to sound intelligent, but what comes to mind is that this concept is deeply seeded in "reflection". Why am I doing this? How can it be done differently? What can I do to garner a greater impact? #fcpslearn
A2 - Students begin to expect to have answers in a multiple choice format or requiring little thinking. However, students need to be able to analyze a topic, discuss with peers, and defend a position. #FCPSlearn
A2: I think that critical thinking becomes important so that Ss begin questioning and thinking about the world around them and how they connect with it. #fcpslearn
A1: To me, critical thinking is analyzing information from multiple perspectives. It means not blindly accepting information given to you without vetting it first. #fcpslearn
A3: All activities in our Lab are centered around thinking critically. We are always asking our students to find innovative ways to problem solve. #fcpslearn
A2: This skill is important because we are bombarded daily with information that people claim to be truthful. How do you know that their claims are correct? It is easy to be led down the wrong path. You have to be able to decide for yourself what to believe. #fcpslearn
A3: I always looked giving students opportunities to iterate break everything. The process of trying to perfect something forces critical thinking in many instances.
#fcpslearn
A4: I would provide content and grade specific resources and have a face to face meeting. If also look to provide examples and long range support.
#fcpslearn
A4: Connect content with student passions. Genius hour, while being a major shift in mindset, is a great catalyst for breeding critical thinking. #fcpslearn
A4: As an ELA teacher, critical thinking skills are embedded in our classes. Examining texts through multiple lenses is a part of what we do. I would sit down with the teacher and identify places in their curriculum where we could add this skill. #fcpslearn
A5: Establishing global connections using tools like Twitter and @flipgrid. Our friends @m_drez and @joycebronwyn are doing amazing things to address SDGs in education. Please follow up with them to learn more! #fcpslearn
I would say you need to create space and time to ask students deeper level questions and help students learn how to have respectful discussions
#fcpslearn
A5: Evaluating websites for data, evaluating statistics and facts presented, looking at the processes data gatherers use for collecting and analyzing data... I am starting to sound like my college research and statistics professor... #fcpslearn
