#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
Merissa from TX joining in! I work in sped and last year we had a third grader make the most growth he has ever made academically. We also focused in on positive behavior supports for our Ss and found the amazing benefits with a lot of patience and practice.

A1: Oh gosh... I had such an amazing year last year. I don't know if I can narrow it down to just one thing. I would say that working in the classroom, building relationships, and starting my career as a teacher were the best things in my classroom(s) last year. #fcpslearn
We are on our full 2nd week here and I am all about the S engagement. Thanks to a #waledchat with @MrPStrunk I was inspired to create interactive bulletin boards and displays asking Ss questions and having them post their replies and hopefully have some fun!

A1: Crazy growth in reading for all students! I was also able to develop a great classroom community. I've loved seeing so many come back to visit me this year! #fcpslearn
A2: Everything is different this year b/c I know people and they know me. I feel like I have a voice that matters at my school and with my administrators. I feel 1000% better about what I'm teaching because I've already done it once. I feel really good about this year. #fcpslearn
A2: I am excited to get back into our routine especially teaching guided reading groups since that is where I get to interact with students 1:1 and see so much progress. #fcpslearn
A3: EASY ANSWER: @Flipgrid AND I LOVE IT. Especially for World Language Classrooms it is a great accessory for speaking proficiency & to engage students in new ways with one another/across class periods. #fcpslearn

A3: One new thing I will be trying in my classroom this year is "Letters to My Teacher."Once a week, students will write a note to me in their book. I will write them back each week. We have done one letter so far! I am excited for them to read my reply on Thursday. #fcpslearn

I have been reading up on #gamification and am loving it! I am currently working on incorporating it into classrooms for the maximum results. I may not get to implement it this year, but am really striving to!

I love that idea! Could be a really unique tool in a world language classroom too for upper-level students as they start to develop their ability to self-describe! #fcpslearn
A4: I have found that students can see through fake. We need to be real and authentic with our students while being positive...not just talking about it. #fcpslearn
A4: Ive found that with R new hallway system in place, Im able 2 talk w/& meet more Ss that I normally wouldnt ever talk 2. Even if its just a short & simple interaction while they sign in, its still a connection. I already have some new Ss that know me & vice versa #fcpslearn
Starting those S conversations and sparking their interest. I have noticed a positive effect with the bulletin boards watching Ss laugh and ask each other questions. I like making school a place the Ss want to be. They watch for new boards & displays with excitement. #fcpslearn
I have definitely given it a thought... tough because the numbers are skewed so the upper level students would have a much heavier work load. Still might try it. Also am using @padlet as a student-student center to ask 4 help/talk about French. #fcpslearn
A5: We have many new teachers this year at my building. They need to be patient. Get to know their students and their staff. Know it's ok to fail now and then. #fcpslearn
A5: Ask for help when you're feeling stressed or not sure what to do. And don't get yourself down/worn out trying to make every single lesson of every day perfect. Even with the best planning, there will be days where things just don't go right. Don't let it break ya! #fcpslearn
