#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
A1: 1 of my fav moments was seeing my Ss fully embrace @mrs_norkus247 's class & include them in everything. They really care about their Life Skills buds & it's incredible to see! Look out 4 a special music video soon that might get @taylorswift13 to come to Oak Lawn! #fcpslearn
Samuel from Houston TX, I’m the Assistant Director for Student Wellness a huge thank you to all teachers! Would love to see @Ms_Chiva join the twitter chat #fcpslearn#TeacherAppreciationWeek
A1: Too many great moments to list just one as a favorite. Had some amazing projects with Ss and 3 co-presentations at the @vste Brainstorm conference with Ts.
#fcpslearn
A1: one of my favourite moments was the junior high film festival. We rolled out the red carpet, dressed in our finest and celebrated the thing filmmakers' incredible accomplishments! #fcpslearn
A1 one of my favorite moment this year was having a student school health advisory council (SSHAC) present to our district school health advisory council! We are building & developing #FutureLeaders#fcpslearn
A1: This just happened today! My Ss are tested out but we're MAP testing. I met with each of them to set goals. The amount of Ss blowing those goals out of the water & seeing how proud they are is AMAZING! Love seeing their success! #fcpslearn
A1: Surviving Lion King. Hands down, best performance we have ever done. Completely student-run from the lights, to the sound, to the direction. Amazing opportunity. #fcpslearn
Me too. Another favorite moment was when I realized that they had grown as writers and I hadn't noticed how much until I looked back at their work from the beginning of the year!! #fcpslearn
A2: The anatomy themed @breakoutEDU that I just ran is a definite keeper. Ss loved saving their patient, Jane Doe, and reading emails from Dr. Stu Born! #fcpslearn
A2: Student portfolios with the new #GoogleSites were great this year at multiple levels and co-presenting aligns directly to my WHY. Both will be prominent next year.
#fcpslearn
A1: Adam from Cincy joining in late....my favorite moment from the year was having a “guest speaker” come in - me dressing up as a long, or XYZ Agent, I’m dressing up as a monk tomorrow. #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn A2 Diff role next year but I'll keep this one focus: ya can't move people from pt A to pt B w/o a relationship. Ur not ready to lead until ur ready to serve.
A2b: my computers class did a self directed project - I learned some big lessons (i.e. I failed a whole bunch) and I can't wait to take another crack at it next year and make it better! #fcpslearn
A2: Everything that we get to do in the Lab is pretty amazing. Any time that you are able to explore and complete hands-on activities, that is a win. Love getting to see the kids dig in and problem solve. #fcpslearn
A2: an activity I’m keeping for next year was my blogging quest project through the Middle Ages. I set up a website for each quest, students took on the Middle Ages and blogged from the perspctive of a noble, knight, king or peasant. #fcpslearn
A2 one activity we will definitely keep is our partnership w/the YMCA that is helping us teach 1 & 2nd graders water safety, which is a great opportunity since so many do not have the exposure to this, we have had 1082 Ss from all across our district go through this #fcpslearn
A3: I want to find new and innovative ways to incorporate @flipgrid into my daily activities, and into new locations. So many great ideas, I just need to find some points of connection. #fcpslearn
A3: One thing I'd like to try next year is developing more on demand PD for our teachers and offering tech centers/rotations within rooms. I'd also like to teach classes to enable Ts to observe colleagues!
#fcpslearn
A3 we have implemented a team Sports Officiating class, which has been approved through all necessary channels, & will be offered at 3 of our 6 high schools, Ss will earn licenses to officiate in ⚽️🏈⚾️🏀🏐 #fcpslearn
A4: I like to make sure my Ss are mentally prepared instead of preaching about content knowledge. Their attitude going in will determine their success more than their academic intelligence, IMO. #fcpslearn
A4: No history test but for math and English I do projects during our remediation block. Students are currently planning a pool party and learning to calculate tax in the process! #fcpslearn
A4: Though I've not taught an SOL related class, I always envisioned having students build a portfolio of artifacts throughout the year that could be their review alongside gamified sessions.
#fcpslearn
A4: I make it as fun as possible. Try to play review games with them. Most importantly I meet with each of them & set goals. Make sure their mindset is growth & progress. #fcpslearn
A4 huge advocate for supporting the #WholeChild so there is a huge focus on ensuring kids feel safe & have basic needs met so that they are prepared for learning #fcpslearn
A4: Not in a traditional classroom, but activities programmed in reg class are featuring activities that mirror PARCC type Qs, requiring Ss to give rationale for their responses. Can be woven into most activities. Gives Ss the space to reflect on processes as well. #fcpslearn
A5: This is prime time for some meaningful project based learning and gamification in the classroom. What can the students do with their year of knowledge to help the community? Lower grades? The world?
#fcpslearn
#fcpslearn A5 I end the year like I start the year, with a focus on relationships, LCLs Life Changing Lessons, and I bring an extraordinary amount of passion and enthusiasm so my Ss reward me with extraordinary effort and respect. #tlap
A5 I always choose a theme for the last few weeks. It makes for fun and excitement about learning. You never know what's going to be happening #fcpslearn
