Q1: Although just starting into week 2, some of us may have already started to look at “behaviors” displayed in our classrooms differently. Share an example of how you may have used a different lens to consider, understand and respond to a struggling student. #LostAtNPS
A1:A S wasn't able to regulate or maintain attn & went into seeking neg attn It dawned on me that he didn't need a "RE-direct", he needed a "WE-direct". We chatted for 3 mins. Turns out he had a rushed AM. We together figured out a plan 2 re-set & he got back on track.#LostAtNPS
I have started to ask why? more and also trying to consider why S is doing what ever behavior they are. I am looking beyond what is in front of me to what else could it be. #LostAtNPS
Q1: I for sure now "push the pause" button and think before I react. Changing focus to thinking that they have a delay (just like my struggling/non readers) and I have the opportunity to "make them" or "break them" in a single interaction so I best choose wisely. #LostAtNPS

A1:Had two challenging situations with students this week and both time I was thinking in my head what skills is this student lacking...I like this approach...made me approach completely different! #LostAtNPS
A1: Already approached a S’s outburst differently by setting up a conference followed by great and productive discussion about lagging skills/necessary skills. Went very well! #LostAtNPS
#lostatnps A1: Honestly, the student I'd thought of last week was texting or following something on his phone while we watched a film in class. Meanwhile, I was trying to view him more sympathetically. So, I'm not quite sure what to make of this.....
A1. I have a student facing a very challengng and unique situation this year. He came to school today, which is a positive, but was in no condition to learn, having been up all night. I gave him a pass for the block to relax and rest. Not my usual mantra, lol! #LostAtNPS
A1: I have a S who is very resistant to doing group games. I was able to get said S to play a few games then do some work with me. I was fully expecting the S to sit out the rest of the time but to much surprise, S went back in the game and I even saw a smile! #lostatnps#win

#LostAtNPS A1 I try to keep the chapter title in my mind at all times. I’m trying to find concrete triggers and skills as opposed to immediately reacting to certain behaviors.
Q1: Although just starting into week 2, some of us may have already started to look at “behaviors” displayed in our classrooms differently. Share an example of how you may have used a different lens to consider, understand and respond to a struggling student. #LostAtNPS
Q1, A1 I was able to ask myself why a behavior continuously happened in class everyday with a particular student and try a new approach for my instruction but also class management, which worked. the reading inspired me to look at the behavior in a new light! #LostAtNPS
A1: I was consulting with a kinder colleague on a kiddo in her classroom. During the discussion, I brought up, well what skill set is this S missing? Just that one question reframed the consult in such a positive way! #LostAtNPS
A1: One of my students frequently doesn’t complete assignments. It often comes across as defiance. However more often then not it’s a lack of understanding. Meeting him where he’s at has increased productivity and improved attitude. #LostAtNPS
#LostAtNPS My little guy pushed friend with force. I slowed things waaayyy down and backed up what happened so we could figure out what made my guy push his peer. He acknowledged, owned his behavior and apologized to his peer. This had the potential to be explosive.
A1: I have been trying not to give a reason for the behavior (bad home, no support, etc) and look at what skills we can work on. What can we teach him to reduce the behavior? #lostatnps
A1. By asking S questions when they seem stressed this week, I have found myself doing a lot more math in ICE than I had anticipated doing in my new role as an ELA T. Kids are super stressed about Algebra.
I was when I was their age.
#LostAtNPS
A1: Student been shutting down, he communicated to one Team member what it's like for him when this happens and she let the rest of the Team know, he let her into his world & we all came up with a plan #LostAtNPS
A1 Definitely already stopped and really thought differently about what my struggling student needed this week Thought about what our goals should be.#LostAtNPS
A1. We have a student with a lot of school refusal behaviors. One way to look at it is she is manipulating and bargaining to get out of coming to school, and choosing to act this way. But if you look at it as lagging skills , you can better come up with ways to help. #LostatNPS
A1 #LostATNPS. #LostAtNPS Assignment that required copying a sentence starter then writing 3 additional sentences. Student put his head down and did not want to complete the assignment. Thought about what he was telling me with his behavior.
I was in a.meeting and we came to a great conclusion regarding focusing on a childs social skills deficits when the family wanted to chalk it uo to just being dhy. It led to a good conversation and hopefully a successful intervention. #LostAtNPS
Q1-A1-#LostAtNPS actually had a lunch bunch date with a FAS friend-we chatted about issues and made a list of likes/dislikes in school - figured that "long writing " is a trigger, so we're strategizing together-
A1: One of my students frequently doesn’t complete assignments. It often comes across as defiance. However more often then not it’s a lack of understanding. Meeting him where he’s at has increased productivity and improved attitude. #LostAtNPS
Q1. A1. today a student told me about an another kid calling him “trash” at recess. How could he focus on school after that? I listened, gave 100% attention & took action w/dean right away. He felt heard and cared for.Worked hard all afternoon. #LostAtNPS
A1: Also, I advocated for consult time with my paras and my general ed teachers this week. I felt we needed time to get together before break and be on the same page when we come back refreshed from Feb vaca! I’m happy my admin helped me make that work!#LostAtNPS
A1: This book study has ABSOLUTELY made me pause & take that one/two extra moments to think before reacting to a student. To think about what kind of morning they had, or what may have just happened out at recess, or lunch - what just recently happened in their world #LostAtNPS
Q2:Giving consideration 2 the role of FBA (Functional Behavior Analysis) 2 understand challenging behavior in Ss (p.41), how could Teachers use ALSUP (in conj w the FBA findings) 2 support collab development of BSPs (Behavior Support Plans) w specialized svc providers? #LostatNPS
Q1/A1-Now I'm really considering a S who may need to be looked at more closely for language issues- this is a confirmation and possible explanation!#LostAtNPS
A2: I think ALSUP + FBA will make process of aligning lagging skills 2 challenging behaviors & unsolved problems more concrete. This should help process 2 identify the "behaviors to increase" & "behaviors to decrease" & the related svs & tools needed to support success. #LostAtNPS
#LostATNPS A2 Consultation to classroom teachers is one of the most important parts of our positions as specialized service providers. Helping a teacher make an informed decision about how to teach a student daly in the classroom with problem behaviors should be our goal.
A2: i think ALSUP will put all providers and teachers/staff on the same page which will be very beneficial to all parties, especially the Ss #LostAtNPS
A2: To me, the best part of the ALSUP is that it facilitates a discussion that ends (hopefully) in everyone agreeing on lagging skills and intervention. In conjunction with an FBA this might be a game changer. #LostAtNPS
A2 The ASLUP is the definition of collaboration by requiring all parties, esp. Ss, to come up with lagging skills together! BUT, wouldn’t mind a #streamlined version for a quick 15-minute sesh with S #LostAtNPS
A2 When it is time to write the plan we need to include the lagging skills and how we are going to help the student develop them...the tool will help us focus in on the lagging skills #LostAtNPS
A2: Ts need to rely on specialized staff more! If WE feel overwhelmed and underinformed then WE must collaborate w/specialists who are trained! It’s what we’d ask of our Ss, right - to seek out help? #allkidsareOURkids#LostAtNPS
FBA's provide so much data in when, where, and how often behaviors are happening. The data provides the team concrete information to focus on while completing the ASLUP . the ASLUP allows you to productively use the data to address deficits #lostatnps
The ALSUP would be a great tool for teacher to help guide instruction after a FBA. FBAs should identify replacement behaviors to be shaped and taught and the ALSUP is a good way to help identify those replacement behaviors.#LostAtNPS
Let me retweet that. Auto correct kills me. I would like a committee formed to look at our IST and ALSU and create a unified form. Maybe a aPD day?..#LostAtNPS
A2: I think the ASULP and FBA’s would help identify both the functions of the behaviors and what skills they are lacking additionally driving their behaviors. This would help students feel more supported and successful in the classroom. #LostAtNPS
A2: What @ZajacSLP said, work smarter not harder! I think this would ease some Ts before/during school and allow them to focus on providing positive learning experiences to ALL Ss. And is this not SEL or what...taking time to understand our kiddos. #lostatnps
I think that the ALSUP will help provide guidance as Ss go through the process of a FBA. The ALSUP will provide teachers with information about lagging skills and ways to help. Also if started with IST process, we will have much more info to service students. #LostAtNPS
A2. The ALSUP along with an FBA can guide us into the why of a problem, where the problem lies, and what skills we need to teach the S. Time intensive but crucial #LostatNPS
A2 The ALSUP would be a great tool for teacher to help guide instruction after a FBA. FBAs should identify replacement behaviors to be shaped and taught and the ALSUP is a good way to help identify those replacement behaviors.#LostAtNPS
#LostAtNPS A2 I like the idea of the ALSUP because in meetings, I feel like we identify problems but never come up with an action plan or solution. I leave thinking, “...okay, so now what?” The ALSUP provokes teamwork and an idea of the next step
A2 Using Dr. Greene’s ALSUP will help “reach to teach” so many kids. Until unsolved problems are matched with lagging skills children will continue to struge #LostAtNPS
A2. Using the ALSUP in connection with an FBA will be so helpful. There are many behaviors listed on it that I wouldn't necessarily think of on my own and identify as a potential problem area that warrants attention. #LostAtNPS
#LostATNPS A2 Consultation to classroom teachers is one of the most important parts of our positions as specialized service providers. Helping a teacher make an informed decision about how to teach daily a student in the classroom with problem behaviors should be our goal.
#LostAtNPS My student stutters sometimes & it takes him a while to get his thoughts out. It was after recess. Lots of kids trying to interrupt with “Mrs. Carline...” but I tuned them out and let my S know he still had all my attention to finish his thoughts
A2. Everyone working together to analyze the data sounds amazing. Way to hone in on deficits as a team. Every student needs a team for truly effective and truly personalized interventions. #LostAtNPS
#LostAtNPS A2 This tool can help add to the discussions regarding Students who need extra support. These tools can be great resources for the 3 school transitions for elementary age Students.
#LostAtNPS Collaboration is an interactive process between educators, related service providers, families and students all sharing their expertise. We need to hear from the teacher what the lagging skills and unsolved problems are for a student.
A1-1 moment this week that made ME feel #LostAtNPS-involved a boy who barely does any work. In this instance it was math a.m work. Instead of dismissing this as laziness-I sat with him-despite not teaching math. Later, I was told by 2 people that he was 100% playing me. 😞
#lostatnps A2: Identifying the lagging skills is essential, I think, and we all seem to agree. Also collaborating on a plan a daily planning, even. Just have to ask, though, how we'd build these things into our already hectic days. Don't mean to be a bummer, of course.
A2- When Reading the chapter, I thought about IST’s and follow-up IST’s and how the ALSUP will allow the IST’s to be more purposeful for individual students. #LostAtNPS
A3: I anticipate that Joey will initially be curious about Dr. Bridgman's unorthodox approach and "candid factor". I also think Joey will challenge Dr. Bridgman and test boundaries as part of his process to understanding the authenticity of their working relationship.#LostAtNPS
A3. I think that first, Dr. Bridgman is going to suggest that mom not be present when he is meeting with Joey. I can't imagine that his mother's stress is helping him. #LostAtNPS
Q3#: I think by my own interpretation- trust is a big issue. I am hoping that Joey trusts him. It reminds me of the role of Robin a Williams in GoodbWillnHunting- #LostAtNPS
A3. Dr seems to have a better grasp on Joey’s situation than previous therapist. He seemed to foster a connection with Joey. I’m hoping to see the CPS in action!! #LostAtNPS
A3 It’s pretty cool that mom and Joey were loosening up with Dr. Bridgeman in just their first meeting. Love that he said he didn’t look at the file much, but it probably wouldn’t tell him much. #LostAtNPS
#lostatnps A3: I think if anyone has a good chance, it's Bridgeman. His honesty, candor, and sincerity I imagine Joey and his mom will find pretty appealing.
A3 here’s where I haven’t read ahead and I love the quirky Dr. Bridgeman who’s already earned Joey’s respect....I see things turning around for Joey...predicting a positive outcome #LostAtNPS
I think the best tging he has done is to be honest and say he is not sure ge can help, but will try. Honesty and humility can be so important, especially with teenagers! I have a goos feeling about it #LostAtNPS
A3: I felt so optimistic when I read about Dr. Bridgman! He seemed genuinely interested in Joey's view of the incident. He also knew that punishment (pressing charges) was not going to help the situation or change the behavior. #lostatnps
Q3: THANK YOU DR. B!!!! I was so nervous even READING that section because I so desperately wanted things to go in a better direction for Joey! I felt so at ease with how he responded to the parent and to Joey! I hope things work out! #LostAtNPS
A3 I feel the hope in Joey abd his mom...someone is listening, someone might be able to help me be successful, someone is on my side...hope! #LostAtNPS
Data is essential to building programs and plans that serve Ss and the Ts that support/teach them. We are all in this together, working smarter not harder is the way we can all win! #LostAtNPS
FBA's provide so much data in when, where, and how often behaviors are happening. The data provides the team concrete information to focus on while completing the ASLUP . the ASLUP allows you to productively use the data to address deficits #lostatnps
#LostatNPS A3 I think that Joey will challenge him, but will find that it's the first time that he is listened to. Hopefully he will be able to help him and his teachers.
A3: I was relieved to find out that Joey's starting to open up to Dr. Bridgman. I'm assuming he (Dr.) will dig around to find the lagging skills and work with Joey's Ts and As so Joey stay available to learn. #lostatnps
A3. Joey needs someone to listen to him. I think as long as Dr B is able to continue to work on that relationship, it will be successful and helpful. #LostAtNPS
A3 I think the best thing he has did is to be honest and say he is not sure he can help, but will try. Honesty and humility can be so important, especially with teenagers (and parents)! I have a good feeling about it #LostAtNPS
I think Dr. Bridgman showed Joey right away that he was going to listen...really listen...to what he has to say, letting him know that he didn't want to rely on other people's opinions - he wanted to know Joey's thoughts and feelings. #LostAtNPS
A3. Dr. B seems genuinely into helping Joey, and Joey needs to feel someone is interested in hearing HIS story. Most kids who struggle just want a chance to be heard. #LostAtNPS
#LostATNPS A3 Bridgman listened and empathized with mom and Joey. They are off to a good start with establishing a relationship. Bridgman did not start with solutions but is interested in first finding out what the unsolved problems or difficulties are for Joey.
#LostAtNPS A3 He’s different and it’s refreshing! Joey and his mother are probably relieved after hearing the same things for so many years. Another example of why we shouldn’t be afraid of change!
A3: I predict Joey will fight back at first - he’s used to resistance & negative consequences. But will warm up & value what Dr. B is presenting to him - a new option, a kinder approach. Makes you pause & think about recent events doesn’t it? ALL our Ss need kindness. #LostAtNPS
When talking about pressing charges, Dr B says "Hard to imagine that would fix anything". I think that was the hope and support that both Joey and his mom needed. In that sentence he showed he was there to get to the real root of the issue and not blame anyone #LostAtNPS
#LostAtNPS The kiddos I have worked with have left big impressions on me. There have been many tough moments, but also break through moments, e.g. asking instead of demanding. I am always trying to find ways to "connect" with them, and thankful for support
Not an answer to any question...but how many could relate to the teacher in the chapter this week...going home feeling defeated but knowing you love your job and your students and wanting things to be diffetent then how the day/ situation turned out...I've been there #LostAtNPS
A3 #LostAtNPS I think Joey has hit the nail on the head with "embarassment" being such a driving factor 4 students-esp from upper elem into middle school. So many of the challenging kids I've had already feel inferior-so embarassment comes easily 2 them which makes them reactive.
#LostAtNPS A2. We can stop saying that the student is “unmotivated” & get to work on figuring out what skills the student is lacking. We need to eliminate “unmotivated” from our vocabulary.
#LostATNPS A2 Consultation to classroom teachers is one of the most important parts of our positions as specialized service providers. Helping a teacher make an informed decision about how to teach daily a student in the classroom with problem behaviors should be our goal.

#LostAtNPS A3 2day, I had a student who made a bad "choice," while using "the words he has." It was clear 2 me, when I heard what happened-that his response erupted due 2 him feeling embarassed by a circumstance he was placed in. He didn't react appropriately-but did he know how?
