Lena Marie here! In between books so catching up on some magazine reads.
-
-
-
Exploring lots of banned book challenges this weekend. Interesting spin some have the content f some great titles.
-
Paula from Ky. I'm reading On the Noodle Road for a Cookin' the Books book club and a J. Patterson Book Shots with 13 yr old.
-
Hello . Kim and Jill joining from NB Canada.
-
Hi Paula! Sounds like a fun book club!
-
Jessica from Alabama. Just finished Kiss Me Like a Stranger by Gene Wilder
-
You can follow the hashtag and also
twitter account for more shares.
-
-
Hi Kim and Jill! Do you celebrate at all?
-
Hi, Lisa joining from Massachusetts. I'm almost finished with Zoe in Wonderland by Brenda Woods.
-
Hi Marlena - looks like a good read!
-
-
I learned so much from this book!
-
-
Hi there! Glad you could join
-
-
A1 I have never challenged myself but my mom thought Judy Blume was a bit too much. I hid "Wifey" when it came out.
-
Hi there! Love to see fellow folks here!
-
-
That's in my list to read! Was it amazing?
-
Curious if anyone had censored books for their own kids or students....
-
Great read professionally that challenges historic view of checklists in being productive.
-
Should be fellow MA folks!
-
I read aloud with 13 yr old and did some editing on Haters. Opposed to explicit sexual material.
-
Could not agree more! Really need diverse books to understand each other! https://t.co/XD7MqKgoVH

A1: I've never challenged & felt sorry for Ss whose Ps did. Books help us grow/understand world around us. Censors… https://t.co/6Jl14byAZ9
-
-
Never challenged. As a kid I read everything (much to my mom's chagrin). I have warned Ps about content, thought.
-
And if we as Ps have done our jobs correctly, 📚 create critical convos we need to have with our kids.
-
Can't imagine never having the opportunity to read some of the titles on the lists.
-
That's fair. That should lead to convos at home!
-
I used to like reading the books my kids were assigned - great convo starters!
-
-
Our MS parents were opposed to students listening to Serial podcasts to study investigative reporting. Disappointing.
-
-
A2 I diddnt realize the Henrietta Lachs book was challenged before. One of my favs that has such historical and cultural value.
-
Now we share fav authors and love to talk books!
-
And that's what I would encourage Ps to do as a teacher & principal. Most Ps go by what they heard instead of know.
-
And that connection is invaluable that you have with our kids!
-
So true! and what they hear is often exaggerated or not factual!
-
hi from Pittsburgh, haven't had any banned books used,
-
Sometimes one of us is faster reading so we have a spoiler alert to not ruin it for the other!
-
Hi there! Glad you popped by!
-
-
Can't imagine not being able to read that book!
-
yes, me too, late but.. :) love talking about and hearing about books, reading sevl books now
-
Thought we would celebrate our freedom to read as we begin
-
had never read TKAM until aftr law school, then read it in Spanish too, great book
-
So true! Books can expand our understanding of the people and the world around us! Can't imagine banning books!
-
The follow-up book was great too!
-
-
-
A3 Promote the value of providing materials for Ss to see themselves in the stories they read. We really do need diverse books!
-
-
Have loved rereading TKAM at different times in life. Always teaches a new lesson.
-
Hi there! Love magazines! Sometimes a perfect reading fix before moving on to a new book!
-
That always amazes me and I love feeling as if I was reading for first time again!
-
Hope you all enjoyed the convo tonight! Celebrate our freedom to read this week and share with
-
-
-
A3 I encourage kids to read what they like. Pokemon and Minecraft guides? Sure. Just read SOMETHING for goodness sakes!
-
-
Thanks for joining the conversation tonight! Follow the hashtag throughout the week for more reading talk! https://t.co/3Pm1A92iYh
-
A3 I encourage my grandkids to read controversial books. Helps you discover your own beliefs. Rather address major issues now.
-
Could not agree with you more! Values the children we serve!
-
A3 Offering students choice is key. Also letting them know they can "break up" with a book.
-
Hope you spend time reading a banned book this week! Looking forward to seeing you next week!
-
-
I have to admit that I find it difficult to "break up" with books. It might take forever but I do finish!
-
This one is on everyone's "Must Read" list! I have not read it yet!
-
Always let me kids reda comic books during breaks. Even magazines are reading!
-
Yikes! I better get my order in! Lol! Have a great week!
-
Yes we do but we call it Freedom to Read and it is February 26-March 4, 2017.
-
