Can I steal a moment of #ASEchat time to plug the ASE conference next year. Now is the time to apply if you want to present a workshop or session next time. Excellent CPD to present as well as attend! https://t.co/Gfn8bHZXdZ
I email home, including links to Google quizzes etc which I encourage parents to have a go at too. I have had a lot of nice comments from parents about them #asechat

Lots of 'closed' suggestions such as google drive, one drive etc, but really needs an 'open' repository. New @theASE site should do this (but not in next couple of weeks) #ASEChat

We don't put revision notes as such. They have those in their exercise books and we would prefer them to make their own as well. This shows them revision techniques, in the context of chemistry, also signposts our quizzes and curriculum (which is bespoke in KS3) #asechat

Anyone having much success with students over the two years, revisiting, relearning, so can dispel the idea that revision will work in the last few weeks? #asechat
I used to buy my students who wanted one a revision guide - my students weren't very good at making notes but I'm not sure a revision guide helped many either! #asechat I think it's hard to revise from a guide.

We are holding Revision Cafes every day after school. Tea and biscuits provided and year 11 get to use the sixth form area. Subjects have provided ppqs by the ton and one member of staff supervises. Kids work independently. #asechat
Also lacks the marked/corrected examples they find in their exercise books and tend to be quite superficial as at the time on publication they're not able to anticipate the range of applications for questions #asechat

If you have SEN learners I wrote a series of posts about getting ready for GCSE - too late for some bits now - here is part 3 of 3 (with links to 1 & 2) https://t.co/VGybCAW69X#asechat
You can teach in whole school how to create flash cards, summarise and make effective notes. Then in subject you can use the tools/skills learnt to focus on the subject stuff #asechat

Also dare I say it, big classes on 'study skills' is an in one ear and out the other approach. The most effective teaching I have ever done on study skills was with group of a maximum of 5. #asechat

Yes. Lots of ways of doing this. We are going to end up with a lot of stuff on the new site as we combine content from schoolscience etc so will need to explore these suggestions #ASEChat

I think that organising revision is very difficult. Was thinking about it yesterday. 10 subjects, 20 plus papers. Very hard to organise a timetable, stick to it even if you have revision strategies. #ASEChat
#asechat#revision Also v useful in this booklet are the notes and examples relating to extended response qns. I have come across a sig number of teachers with misconceptions about marking these. E.g. 'mark 6 points'. https://t.co/3kaGvJjaaX
I suppose the total examination time is less because we are no longer examining practical skills by coursework over a couple of weeks in the classroom, thus more exam time needed to test these skills.
Spread out over two lessons. Practise questions and focused support with one group day one. The others working through 'easier' questions with text books, mark schemes and light touch support. Swap focus group next lesson.

We still seem to have the same amount of time in between exams with them. We operate an alternative timetable with them. So for example if bio exam is in the morning, the last 2 lessons the day before all year 11s to biology.
By the way, spotted an error on the AQA GCSE science spec. See pic. Should be CO-)n Probably won’t make too much of a difference, but some kids trying to balance the polymerisation reaction (all two of them) might get confused... #ASEchat
Interestingly, my colleague who went on an examiners course came back saying that foundation papers would be given equations in papers. Which makes sense, #asechat
I think it works ok because it’s a whole school coordinated approach. Plus I think they get Prom Points for going (think they need a certain number to be able to go or get a discount) Sorry it’s a bit vague - no exam classes for me this year! #asechat
The Separates are on fire with it. I also teach F Combined and the mocks tended to print the eqns, which did not escape their notice. So we practice sticking numbers in the right places. #asechat
