"Connectedness is the essence of everything." -John Gardner

Good morning! Nice to say hello.
I may split with some of you here. I love being connected but i'm not sure its for everybody. Our job is to help those who want it.
I feel that we can help re-engage the disaffected/discouraged by showing them the possibilities when you are connected.
If we want our students to be able to be productive contributing members of society, we must help get them connected!
creating a culture of connectivity is our responsibility. I tell anyone who will listen about the learning, growth, and positivity.
You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink https://t.co/3vJLgs5Gap
I may split with some of you here. I love being connected but i'm not sure its for everybody. Our job is to help those who want it.
Good morning PLN! Tom here, K-5 principal from Lexington, MA.
KIndergarten Rocks-just sayin'.
Happy Friday friends! Chris here from Ontario. To those who are given much, much is expected...let's help others get connected!
It also models to our Ss that we are lifelong learners. If we don't value it, why should they?
We need to be role models for being connected. Share what we are learning. It's like that video https://t.co/4jnPuFoYkl
We need to be role models for being connected. Share what we are learning. It's like that video https://t.co/o5JmJ1T05N
When it comes to Ss, absolutely. Part of life. For reluctant Ts, demo the benefits, advocate, assist. https://t.co/GfNQhs3Mwk
"Connectedness is the essence of everything." -John Gardner
Connecting is very much my responsibility for me and Ss
Have you given them 's book Digital Leadership? It makes a great case for connected leaders!
I think it's about modeling responsible connectedness to those who are, and working to connect those who aren't
Was wondering that, too. There are a few different ways to interpret the question.
Someone probably got us connected. It is our job to pay it forward!
As connected educators we can simply be examples of its usefulness. Other teachers find inspiration other places. Thats fine.
good morning from Roanoke va
Being connected opens up the whole world to us! https://t.co/Mp5vsnxAk9
creating a culture of connectivity is our responsibility. I tell anyone who will listen about the learning, growth, and positivity.
We absolutely must help connect other Ts. I tell my "Twitter testimony." I've led pds in school and district.
Good morning . Stacey from NJ. Sorry to be joining late and from my phone.
Our Ss need us to be connected in order to provide them the learning opportunities that will help them succeed in their future.
and maybe that horse didn't want water in that moment.
I almost feel connectivity is as important a utility as water, elec, heat...Necessary for today's world.
I put flyers out last year in our Ts room about the benefits of Twitter and I offered to help anyone - zero bites
Are we talking unconnected as in SM or families that don't have tech at home? Both important to tackle.
Inspiring others to connect is another level of .
I love being connected b/c I have a passion for lifelong learning via connections. I need to share my passion for learning first.
I think it's our job to make being connected available. Some simply may not want it. Can't force. Just offer.
Keep fighting the good fight. Maybe you can use a different method than fliers.
It takes time and teachers might warm up - but I don't push it for this exact reason! https://t.co/GDQPuUx7x9
I may split with some of you here. I love being connected but i'm not sure its for everybody. Our job is to help those who want it.
I think it's like everything else - some have a hard time with change or different.
Yes some are more private or reserved doesn't mean they are not connected in other ways https://t.co/xox8uxwxwx
I may split with some of you here. I love being connected but i'm not sure its for everybody. Our job is to help those who want it.
very true and very outdated method haha
There are different levels of participation when being "connected." It may look different for different people.
And also showing sometimes we have to disconnect. The real privilege is to be able to decide when you will and won't.
But if that's where your staff is, it isn't outdated to them. Meet them where they are.
I would put up examples of things I've learned through twitter in action.
What level of connectedness are we aiming for? When I'm hyper connected I lose balance w personal f2f/community connectedness.
but not everybody thinks the same way. We have to build the interest.
Good morning from NJ! Tardy to the party, but TGIF!
share our examples but if resistant ask for other examples of connecting w colleagues & prof info
I think technology in general is hard. People are inso many different places.
Modeling, offering to provide assistance, talking about benefits of being connected, all important to help connect more people
Same! I also share out resources through email to help some understand all that you can find by being connected.
don't forget as a connected educator u can bring those connections into real life...I say I'll ask my & then Ts see benefit
Totally agree. Being connected is a personal experience. PPL have to make it their own https://t.co/PLgMY8lCPo
There are different levels of participation when being "connected." It may look different for different people.
I think the hardware is more available than the knowledge and desire to connect. It's the desire to learn more that needs attn.
friends...I believe we've discovered a gift of connectedness for learning, via Twitter, that we need to share...our responsibility.
recommends that we phrase invites to the unconnected as "When you're ready..."
Great advice Dennis!
" A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality." John Lennon
Educators cant value the connectedness of a PLN until they give it a try & see what it provides them. When they do, theyre hooked!
I agree...our job is to create the interest and help but not force.
Will seeing the power change that they may have some devices but no data access only phone. https://t.co/XeRPbVKelp
I think "unconnected" need opportunities to see the power that comes from taking time to connect!
In my class I talk about "passive participating " you don't have to talk to Be participating https://t.co/TF5ZINXbd7
There are different levels of participation when being "connected." It may look different for different people.
I totally agree, Melissa. π https://t.co/swUik7g71W
There are different levels of participation when being "connected." It may look different for different people.
I didn't know you are familiar with Kim zolciak's work
Being connected allowed my Ss blogs to get authentic eyes and comments beyond me. Comment if you have time! https://t.co/9AVBRhu7Zj
I think connections are important but perhaps they are connected to the teacher next door.
done that as well as a few other methods...at what point do you stop trying to connect the unconnected?
It also takes time for people to see and really understand the benefits. https://t.co/WrmPJHX4yu
But if that's where your staff is, it isn't outdated to them. Meet them where they are.
Sharing what works for us is important, no matter what it is. Then, we must all make our own choices. https://t.co/pMGg4ZC8lp
I think it's our job to make being connected available. Some simply may not want it. Can't force. Just offer.
I found sharing the idea first planted seed. Then they asked where I found - Twitter
last year we had a "connected educators week" at my school...each day I emailed Ts a site I found thru Twitter like
Being connected allowed me to design a course for our Ss.
. Ss who aren't connected at home should be provided opportunities at school to use technology for supporting education
exactly. Not force, not badger, just suggest and move on.
For me it's ab meaningful connections. Don't just connect to Twitter and stalk. Find the right chat & the right ppl. is a gr8 start.
Love it! "I'll ask my ..." I am SO using this line! Thanks ! https://t.co/aMx9ntwAIr
don't forget as a connected educator u can bring those connections into real life...I say I'll ask my & then Ts see benefit
Daily sharing of ideas and what we've found at least starts a conversation that can lead to a connection
Ts and (especially)Ss need to understand the power of being connected to one's self.
You can lead a horse to water. The question is how long do you keep their head underwater? ;)~
Just like you can lurk on Twitter chats or join in on the convo! https://t.co/k34v3MufPb
In my class I talk about "passive participating " you don't have to talk to Be participating https://t.co/TF5ZINXbd7
There are different levels of participation when being "connected." It may look different for different people.
Working hard to get my Ss more connected. District policy is tough to work around. Just allowed them to use their district email.
I have found that some of my followers pick up on items I curate. Those are usually very fresh blogs or articles recently published.
It also takes time for people to see and really understand the benefits. https://t.co/PieLl0k7qy

I'm working on the next gen - helping kinders connect in a kind, safe, and responsible way. Working on colleagues too-that's harder.
Word of mouth helps.Ts talking in lunchroom about twitter chats sparks interest
connectedness can look so many diff ways. Let's begin with connecting with teachers in our building
A Ts asks me a question - I go to Voxer or Twitter to get it! They R surprised that is where I get answers! https://t.co/gTO6UEj8rV
don't forget as a connected educator u can bring those connections into real life...I say I'll ask my & then Ts see benefit
I don't think there's any T out there who doesn't want the FTF equivalent of connection at work that they have on the PLN.
Absolutely! Lack of resources at home should not be a limiting factor to them when they are at school.
Stop trying. Those who are interested will come.
Agreed, but imagine if those connections were from across the world and outside their comfort zone https://t.co/5aHmUeWh6y
I think connections are important but perhaps they are connected to the teacher next door.
I can't help but talk about things I've learned from my Twitter PLN. Hopefully the excitement of others will intrigue them.
books are still being written right? We love it but but for everyone.
Love this!! https://t.co/RuN5B2WERM
recommends that we phrase invites to the unconnected as "When you're ready..."
Great advice Dennis!
I tell stories about how I didn't "get" Twitter at 1st. How sometimes I don't check it for days. Make it ok https://t.co/6IR5Wsb86O
And also showing sometimes we have to disconnect. The real privilege is to be able to decide when you will and won't.
That's not our role. We help those who want it but we cant decide which is better.
good morning! Had to grab a second cup. Looking forward to a good chat!
Good pt; I was thinking about this ?? in terms of Ts, but we can also help Ss make helpful (& appropriate) connections.
I share the resources from all the time. I'm sure to tell them I got them from a Twitter connection.
Good point, Stacey. Not everyone's definition of "connected" is the same.
Just like the quietest ones in your class still have a voice and DO learn. Don't need to be loud to have a voice
Yes some are more measured in responces but taking it in https://t.co/pfXwWUYKrw
Ts often feel overwhelmed & connecting can seem like 1 more "to do". For me, connecting has transformed my teaching.
Exactly. Start the conversation! https://t.co/Si9KqewjNF
Daily sharing of ideas and what we've found at least starts a conversation that can lead to a connection
I think Twitter can be overwhelming for people.
Good point...you can lead a horse to water...
worst thing about eval rubrics... Participation sometimes looks like just following along or writing
Ss, even many at 1:1 Schs become "unconnected" when bell rings but do/will compete w/ those globally connected 24/7
I also think it depends on your position at school as to how much you can help/suggest.
Completely agree - have to start them off small - a few people to follow at first - get their feet wet https://t.co/ZbRziZxAqX
I think Twitter can be overwhelming for people.
I know plenty of ppl are community connected and not even on a social media platform. It's about choice. https://t.co/PtSB7SzOdW
Good point, Stacey. Not everyone's definition of "connected" is the same.
Absolutely. It is a fire hose. However, you can start small and work your way into it.
The teacher next door can absolutely be a part of your PLN! Non-educators can be a part of our PLN as well. https://t.co/TPvB7sNSVE
I think connections are important but perhaps they are connected to the teacher next door.
That's often what I hear the most from teachers who "don't do Twitter."
where in CT? Born in Woodstock myself
YES! It is my tribe! My sense of peace!
True, but I can't help but evangelize about the importance of it. https://t.co/gEk93yd0Ks
That's not our role. We help those who want it but we cant decide which is better.
i was @ 1 time not connected to Twitter & helped me connect. Made all the difference. now my respon. 2 help connect
I also love when they call it the dark side. Trying to help them see the light. (Literally& figuratively)
Other adults aren't students. They don't have to learn it. Create a system or policy that allows them to do it at their own pace.
Being invitational is important...show people the benefits of connectedness, but they must decide whether or not to commit.
To quote , we have to be careful that we're not using Twitter to escape the "boring bits" of life.
Re: technology- it changes so fast that I find myself being overwhelmed with connecting yet I understand the usefulness
And there is another convo with only 1/7 Ts on Twitter. https://t.co/229S1U7qw5
a Guess I'm focusing on the Ts that have access but choose not to connect.
I tell everyone, just like a tweet..that's it.
I feel that a PLN supports & promotes F2F connectedness if you make it work that way for you! I've met some great people from my PLN
That's the issue. Evangelizing turns people off. Proof does the opposite.
Connecting has transformed my professional growth! It's empowering, challenging, and rewarding. https://t.co/SK6zeGhjkw
Ts often feel overwhelmed & connecting can seem like 1 more "to do". For me, connecting has transformed my teaching.
Agree-Know of a teacher who retired because of e-mail. How overwhelming is socail media and the new tech to some?
I appreciate being connected to business leaders as well. It gives me daily fresh perspective. https://t.co/cWuKaspB86
The teacher next door can absolutely be a part of your PLN! Non-educators can be a part of our PLN as well. https://t.co/TPvB7sNSVE
I think connections are important but perhaps they are connected to the teacher next door.
some feel it has to be an " all the time " thing need to be selective in which chats are helpful for them https://t.co/5eb4bLeWCc
Ts often feel overwhelmed & connecting can seem like 1 more "to do". For me, connecting has transformed my teaching.
Absolutely. It just requires some outside the box thinking. Like putting hotspot on bus and parking it in neighborhood.
I agree. Social media is a GREAT option for connecting! It's definitely not our only option though.
It's hard for teachers to consider an online PLN when they are feeling buried in initiatives, changes w/in their bldgs.
I am glad I kept up on tech as it was growing. Don't feel as behind now.
So how do we prove it to those who don't come listen to us "preach"? https://t.co/2uIBWfzJbE
That's the issue. Evangelizing turns people off. Proof does the opposite.
Had T say with email, Facebook, etc I don't have time for Twitter. Me: You don't have time to learn!? Twitter is a classroom for Ts!
