went through classcraft, used it as review, played theme music….they defeated the creature!
-
A1: You could use student data for stats like reading ability or typing speed. These skills could round out a team when challenged
-
A1: Ss with certain skills get more choice in recipe and ing choice.
-
A1 Students gain more abilities/skills as they progress through time in their civilization
-
A1) part 1 thinking of connecting skills to types of elements.
-
I have the same kind of point system and am looking for more as well.
-
a2) part 2 for example, noble gases don't react with anything, so some "attacks" might not work during review games
-
A1: I try build in 21st century skills like communication, collaboration, innovation & digital literacy in all my quests
-
A1 earning tokens won't help, but earning skills that will help build a team fort or will contribute to team advances.
-
Great so many could join us tonight! We are off to a great start! Q2 coming in 2 minutes!
-
A1: Ss can protect teammates with certain skills and other skills allow more choice/opportunities.
-
Joining because need my gaming fix from lots of great teachers
-
-
I don't have teams this year. Using more gaining of powers as assets for players
-
a1) also like the idea of some sort of forge skill so that they can combine items (maybe chemical reactions for science)
-
Already planning next years game and oooooo this is so going to be part of it! Ridiculously excited already!
-
Love the idea of combining items!
-
These skills are so important to build in!! https://t.co/bzKOYpdmdm
-
-
A1: I try build in 21st century skills like communication, collaboration, innovation & digital literacy in all my quests
-
-
it would create "bonding" opportunities.
-
A1: Ss also will level up on purpose driven skills as they progress through the day to day stuff of the World of Factions
-
I reinforce these skills w/ points and mini game challenges. I love we can include differently w/same effect https://t.co/AEwxnkrLcM
-
-
A1: I try build in 21st century skills like communication, collaboration, innovation & digital literacy in all my quests
-
Hope is rocking tonight. I am sorry I have had to miss it. At P conferences...
-
A2: I use money as a currency in my food truck race. Ss earn money as they win challenges. Can use to buy ing & more choices
-
I am using food points since the subject of the game is establishing a civilization. food and water are everything
-
Yes, it is all about collaboration, inquiry, digital citizenship
-
A1 haven't started yet, but love the idea. Thought of SCI skills like microscope, & other tools, but no team aspect to it
-
A2: We use 3d printed "silver" pieces that were designed on
-
I love incorporating purpose driven skills too! https://t.co/CeI2sNqXIp
-
-
A1: Ss also will level up on purpose driven skills as they progress through the day to day stuff of the World of Factions
-
A2 Not in a gamified world right now, but I would LOVE to see students get to spend "political capital" in a SS class as currency!
-
-
I was curious if people use currency digitally or have an actual coin or bill or something Ss collect and keep track of???
-
A2 I do TOTALLY have fake dubloons for our rooms though, heh!
-
A2 currency, it provides a foundation and a "buy-in" because it is a tangible aspect and connection to the classroom.
-
Q2: I am playing w/ an idea for 16-17 by turning XP points into VC (virtual currency). Thinking about a giant year long game of Risk
-
A2: Ss always earning XP&GP but after last chat I'm having Ss turn GP 4international candy while 10,000 XP = view final exam b4 exam
-
A2: As Ss collect XP they also gain a certain % of gold. The gold can be used to buy items and powerups
-
A2: I have three forms of currency. Pts: used daily, Reward Stars to build badges and Pink Tickets for super bonuses.
-
All digital currency in my classroom https://t.co/WXWwwvGcNx
-
-
I was curious if people use currency digitally or have an actual coin or bill or something Ss collect and keep track of???
-
A2 I think I would enlist the students to create the design of the real-life currency, to be honest!
-
we use actual coin pieces, but have a digital bank that Ss can deposit coins into. Gets more out and keeps em safe
-
WOW! I can’t handle how awesome you all are! Q3 is coming in 2 minutes!
-
A2: XP - gained by going extra mile in academic areas or by supporting our social contract
-
BOTH! I started paper only. I wanted to make sure I was consistent w/my reinforcement then I moved to digital.
-
A2 I have some perks, e.g. Free play phone time, that are consumable perks that students can trade
-
That is an awesome idea for Ss to take charge https://t.co/j579EERCbD
-
-
A2 I think I would enlist the students to create the design of the real-life currency, to be honest!
-
YES!!!! and immediately reinforces skills you want students to build https://t.co/YsL5UFNBvX
-
-
A2 currency, it provides a foundation and a "buy-in" because it is a tangible aspect and connection to the classroom.
-
-
Doing year long game this year! It has been beyond awesome and allowed me to really build my gamifying skills!
-
A3 great way to differentiate with Ss. all classes are at different levels allows for the game to evolve with each group
-
A3 allows you to create the game based on the classroom and student needs.
-
A3 P1: I'm living this right now. I keep preaching to the Ss that I'm learning with them and if we fail at this, we fail together…
-
A3: it lets me start before I have it all planned out. We can grow or change as students buy in or ideas develop.
-
I am telling my kids the same thing. This is a learning process for all of us
-
a3) can tie it into skills students need to work on at any time. Also that seems like a ton of work if you had to plan everything
-
A3 P2: We pick ourselves up together and then we re-learn or re-design together!
-
Exactly what we are doing! we need to chat :)
-
A3: I tell my self games/app get updates. All games are in beta. Mine can be too. Gives me freedom to go BIG! No fear and have FUN!
-
A3: This is was what gave me the courage to start...knowing I didn't have to figure it all out from the get go.
-
Help, I'm being shoved off the plank. How do I play? (This looks like fun!)
-
they do We will be sewing pouches for them soon. Then Ss see banker who uses G Forms and Sheets to track
-
A3 P3: and then I go down the hall to my partner in this adventure to bounce more ideas off of
-
A3: Rules can change. Make it part of the game. Use it as a challenge. The best games today have expansions & downloadable content
-
my Ss are loving the fact that they are my beta testers.
-
A3: I get ideas from all these amazing educators at . My story, my game mechanics, mine and Ss adventure is always changing.
-
My Ss want to make t-shirts that say beta testers
-
A3 as more customized to Ss you have, and they get to direct & create some elements, mechanic details, etc.
-
Yes, y'all are a great support system!! https://t.co/A3nu2FDyvn
-
-
A3: I get ideas from all these amazing educators at . My story, my game mechanics, mine and Ss adventure is always changing.
-
Can’t keep up with the awesomeness! Q4 coming in 2 min!
-
A3: Game is always unfolding in new directions based on Ss ideas& classroom content. Ss understand flexibility &love sharing ideas
-
ALWAYS!! Lets us constantly create and have fun! https://t.co/Q10NNBveHj
-
-
A3: I get ideas from all these amazing educators at . My story, my game mechanics, mine and Ss adventure is always changing.
-
A3 This allows you to take tangents - "Squirrel!"
-
a3) plus then when edition 2 comes out we can all add more awesome things to our games!
-
I am new to this. Still finishing the book. How do you Create a game that will take long enough? Trying something in a few weeks.
-
-
and if we succeed we succeed together!
-
My Ss love the idea that I use their input to make the game better. I am not the only gamester. Ss are game designers too
-
I love the creativity and that I will never do the exact same thing each year and each year the game can be just as awesome!
-
A4 Let the energy from the kids guide you. Their curiosity and engagement will give you ideas to create lessons focused on discovery.
-
And the time of Year, Its March so I created The road to the Final Faction -March Madness
-
-
A4 try to keep a notebook of mini games that can be changed and used as mini quests in the game. keep them thinking
-
I want to do more of this. Using standards at the core.
-
-
A4: listen & incorporate Ss ideas into the game I don't often tell them i've put their ideas into play until they see it unfold!
-
A4: I love the power of advertising. Hanging a sign about a new lesson or component and just reeling them in on curiosity!
-
A4: I am trying inquiry based learning...so its about Ss getting to the discovery, not me telling them things
-
I'm pretty sure that Monopoly didn't have all the rules worked out the first time it was played.
-
Thanks! Need to buy the manual. I appreciate it.
-
A4: Performance on assignments could earn more revelation in game. Ss could earn some of the 'lore", which helps the game & learning
-
Yes, building to make better & alway unrolling a new adventure, idea, treasure https://t.co/LuUIse1Esr
-
-
I love the creativity and that I will never do the exact same thing each year and each year the game can be just as awesome!
-
a4) I'm trying to be like final fantasy, they don't ever tell the rules, you just figure it out (or die)
-
I need to do this! Must keep one by the bed. That's when most of my new ideas come to me.
-
I also love to sit and talk to kids while they are playing games. Ask them questions about it and gather ideas and plot!
-
A4 I think mirrors overall EDU trend of Ss inquiry and Guide on the Side
-
a4) part 2, but I do like the idea of finding some ancient alien knowledge in a hidden temple or something
-
A4: Ss of the secret society are looking for who is divergent, Its a game in the game, only the curious will play
-
Love when students create their own tangents. love a job where we can play everyday!
-
Yes. Haven't read it or seen it yet. Stumbled on it from someone I follow.
-
-
This is why I love Lunch duty because I get to do this as well
-
One of the reasons I wander through breakfast some mornings. Sit & chat with them.
-
A4 Keeping assignments open, allowing Ss to finalize the details or create their own rubric
-
Nervous about Ss creating rubrics. Would love to hear how you began incorporating this.
-
Sure it did. Steal from your neighbor, charge high prices, and evict those who can't pay. don't forget free parking
-
-
I am interested in this as well. I think it'd be a tough sell to my principal
-
Do you green screen? Saw an idea from with Ss standing in front of the madness board
-
A4 my "A" Ss have the hardest time with open ended approach
-
A5 Lego challenge where students made a topographical map of the area where they decided to settle civilization
-
I agree! I had the Ss suggest Items that they wish they could earn
-
A5 At end of yeast bread unit Ss prepare a bread dough w/out directions and make own creation with it. We do similar chall each unit.
-
A5: excited about our next unit. planned out a chlg.. Ss create earthquake proof buildings out of marshmallows & uncooked noodles.
-
A5: We do modified boss battles, where the group battles a foe, if they win they claim a reward, but uses skills from all Ss in group
-
S created rubrics are powerful! helps them to understand expectations more clearly
-
A5: I would love to have Ss mediate a conflict to practice the process also becoming familiar w/ our digital tools we use
-
a5) made topographic maps from a play dough structure I had made for them
-
a5) p1) thinking of doing a black box challenge where students try to figure out what is inside the box without looking
-
A5: Their House (6th Dimension) are hoping to have the Faction represented as the governors of the World of Factions
-
Q6 coming at ya in 2 minutes!
-
a5) p2) then whatever the shape was would lead them to a clue to something, maybe a test.
-
Can I join your class? It would go well with my GEarthP earthquake/volcano unit.
-
A5: Force students to complete an activity that is routine without a required component. Eliminate something to make easy work hard
-
-
A5 looking to challenge class w/BreakoutEDU and add some energy. My first one was fun, team building but didn't address a content std
-
I had found an easy contraption you could build on pinterest to simulate an earthquake.
-
I use challenges to build tech skills. Students show evidence and earn a badge based on that skill
-
My black box challenge includes a box of ingredients and then Ss have to create a menu item with them. https://t.co/JhfxyqsF5W
-
-
a5) p1) thinking of doing a black box challenge where students try to figure out what is inside the box without looking
-
A5 trying to brainstorm a series of Earth Sci challenges for Breakout
-
Yes, when Ss design rubrics it is informative for Ts & Ss
-
-
-
A5: Hoping to do a as class to work on these skills. Anyone open to doing one? 6th grade
-
-
A6: Bonus bakery mission unlocked for Ss at bottom half of leaderboard. Need some more ideas for this mechanic
-
Yes, they're good at playing school?
-
I use many challenges in the beginning of the year for team building. Throughout do QR Code Quests & Adventure Quest
-
A6: Side quests can help boost points and interest
-
Love that Idea, please tell me more
-
Not getting sucked in to pinterest. Just not. :) . (Still would love to see it.)
-
A6 Sidequests are always a great way to catch up as well as using Cel.ly for extra points.
-
A6: My Ss that stay after school for extra help earn XP to help boost points. Also, not always rewarding for knowledge but skill too
-
Im throwing out additional questions to boost points in Adventure Quest, right now heated battle between 3Ss https://t.co/QUdRn8XBBo
-
-
A6: Side quests can help boost points and interest
-
Depends on when. I'm always game but need to coordinate with Ts. I'm a librarian.
-
A6: gave XP points for students who attend tutorials with a specific question or area of help.
-
I LOVE this idea! I'm piloting 1:1 w/ touch screen chromebooks & I think this would help my Ss
-
A6 The Life Jackets are like life savers, you catch up, it's like Chutes and Ladders, you get a jump ahead.
-
Throw them off of the deep end?
-
Sometimes I will just give extra focus to the students in bottom half. More quickly reinforcing the positive behaviors they are using
-
Want to do more badges. Around standards and library skills
-
This hour always goes too fast! Q7 coming in 2 minutes!
-
A6 Some need life jacket, but XP = grade pts in my class, academic integrity concerns :-/ already have Side Quests
-
I just got to the part of the book were it talks about Cel.ly. How do yo use/format quest?
-
Kind of like Chopped on Food network?
-
Threw a couple out but only a handful of Ss took the bait. However, I see the tides beginning to change. https://t.co/bunTYPizA0
-
-
A6: Side quests can help boost points and interest
-
used questions from class that week and students earned points as they answered questions.
-
Great way to phrase it! https://t.co/YMY3pIF1gx
-
-
A6 The Life Jackets are like life savers, you catch up, it's like Chutes and Ladders, you get a jump ahead.
-
A6:Life jackets by having powerups to Ss that are in the bottom half the leaderboards, play to their Strengths
-
-
They will catch on once those first few spread the word
-
A7 I'd like to try the Kahoot gladiator challenge idea with my Ss soon. Think they'd love it!
-
A7: Haven't done PvP yet, but would love to add it in! The Ss would be all for it!
-
Shake them. Rattle them, and Roll them (ok, just the dice.)
-
A7: looking for ideas on this one, but I think I could do that with side quests - have students link answers on a google doc.
-
A7 Ss battle each other for land and resources. battles are by dice and by questions from content
-
Q7: Outside of Boss Battles, I want to know what others are doing
-
whats the gladiator challenge? love
-
a7) not sure I want PVP, maybe groupVgroup. want to focus more on teamwork than individual. do like Kahoot though.
-
LOVE this idea! Will have to check it out
-
A fellow Michigander ... Ok, I bailed but still.
-
A7 the power of PVP is that the Ss now have control, your rules are shifted to their rules, they begin to create the scenarios
-
You always have awesome ideas . . . this is making me think of lots of awesome things https://t.co/8Lf3SUkZdq
-
-
A7 I'd like to try the Kahoot gladiator challenge idea with my Ss soon. Think they'd love it!
-
My Ss love it so far! I highly recommend it
-
-
-
Ready for Adventure Quest?! Rules coming in 2 minutes! Get ready!
-
I've heard of mash-ups where characters can take on others, skills to become more powerful, yet to see in classroom
-
A7 Kahoot as Guilds w/rotating player; Quizlet leaderboards, Quizlet just added a live game. We BETA tested, a fun twist to review
-
A7: (PvP)is awesome I chose 2 start it because Ss weren't gaining XP fast enough,my quests are 2 long so needed pick me up
-
-
this seems interesting. like kirby sucking in an enemy?
-
Is that like raiding a person's XP when not on task or misbehave? https://t.co/zkycOoI0WU
-
-
I've heard of mash-ups where characters can take on others, skills to become more powerful, yet to see in classroom
-
-
May have to run a multi game scenario. Let us in on the fun?
-
-
trying to think like Pokemon, but that would be interesting, spur some excitement, though.
-
Open up my computer and first thing I see is this idea that puts a huge smile on my face. Thanks for sharing https://t.co/Q5wwvUvC7I
-
-
Once again my brain is filled to the max with so many ideas! Thanks for hosting!
