A1 student choice is so important to get ALL students engaged-this can't always be tested on standardized assessments but can be part of data collection through portfolios-part of multiple data points #teachNVchat
We need to fully embrace the idea of #futureready and not the outdated standardized testing of the past and present, and #CareerTechEd needs to have more of an emphasis to achieve that #teachnvchat
It's funny through most of my later classes in my Bachelors and pretty much all of my Masters and Ed.S, it was portfolio or "prove it by showing me" type assessments, not tests, we can do the same for primary and secondary schools #teachnvchat
Great point about #CareerTechEd being part of preparing students for future-today's students are much more than kids who can bubble a test sheet #teachNVchat
A1: Courses that allow all Ss access to a well-rounded education, well-supported/well-trained educators at all schools, especially our most vulnerable. #teachnvchat
I couldn't agree more, Carol! I love using tech to enhance my Ss' learning but definitely find myself using it as a paper replacement sometimes. Need time to explore, learn and collaborate to offer best practices to my class. #teachnvchat
A1 tough one, wish teachers had more autonomy, #technology resources and support and time for professional development & collaborative lesson creation #teachNVchat
A1-Too many hands in the kettle so to speak. Something as simple as let them teach and let's see what happens...might achieve some pretty surprising and awesome results. #teachNVchat
I know it replaced #NCLB but I want to know how the federal government truly intends to help improve education but taking a smaller role in doing so #teachnvchat
I think time will show how wrong we were about standardized tests. Agree with @AndersonEdTech that the “show me what you learned” approach is better for students and more realistic #teachNVchat
Huge to recruit high quality well trained staff! are most teachers ready to go on their own after a semester of student teaching? I sure wasn't #teachNVchat
A2- @NevadaReady required to report the total, total amounts $pent on students...like an "all-in" dollar amount including transportation, and other expenses that are sometimes not in the per pupil numbers. Will yield interesting results and conclusions...#teachNVchat
A2. I know that ESSA upped the ante on monitored ELLs. We actually have to monitor and check in and document. I’d like to know how data is configured and aggregated. #teachNVchat
I think its going to be a mixture of proficiency measures-growth models & performance tasks that help us paint a full picture of student learning #teachNVchat
A1: I’m going to start with mindset. 1. Embrace innovation. 2. reject redundancy and routine unless they are mindful. 3. Love every child. 4. Collegiality is about support, not competition. #teachnvchat
agreed-I'd love to see us looking at cohorts of students over time and comparing growth of targeted ELLs to non-ELL & tease out what is working & what isn't #teachNVchat
Likewise with educators, I think. We need time to digest new expectations and to figure out how we're going to meet them. Together with colleagues and our PLNs. Improvement won't come overnight and might be a little bumpy along the way #teachnvchat
I would like to know this as well, what is being done with all of the data? Will it be used to impact student learning or another "thing" on T's to-do lists? #teachNVchat
Great Question-unfunded mandates on states is not the solution-how will federal monies help student achievement without handcuffing states with extra mandates & compliance hoops to jump through #teachNVchat
@BDicksonNV I agree looking at cohorts of students over time could be insightful, it tells us a lot when looking at individual students over time, why not extend that to an entire grade level at a school? #teachNVchat

@BDicksonNV, @CarolCstranford, @BDicksonNV
Can't make a state do anything, but a formula that matches federal funding to state funding in some way, an incentive, kind of like how the gov't "required" states to raise the drinking age to 21 by threatening to withhold hwy funds #teachnvchat

A3: We can start with educators being seen as educational innovators. More educator led PD, more educators at the table when Policy is being shaped. #teachnvchat
A3: I’d like to see more states develop teacher & principal academies and provide meaningful PD the way ESSA Title II part A describes, rather than more emphasis on testing and remediation the way MT’s ESSA plan describes. #beproactive#teachnvchat
Providing training for Ts on the "innovation" that is funded/implemented/suggested/required, etc. Too many Ts are still stuck in the stone age of teaching because they simply don't know how #teachnvchat
Great idea-having cohorts of other educators to learn from is key-I was very lucky to go through leadership program in my district but not sure if this is the norm in other places #teachNVchat
