  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:05 PM EDT
Mark, edtech coach in Douglas county, NV. #ETcoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:07 PM EDT
Q1: Tech-resistant teachers may be strongly opposed to our ideas for the classroom. How might we build trust with these “haters”? #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:07 PM EDT
Welcome Mark! Glad that you could join us today :) #ETcoaches

I am Melissa, from PA. We have had rain - rain - and more rain! I am an online tech coach. Happy to be helping to moderate the 1pm ET session #ETCoaches
  • kat_goyette Jul 31 @ 1:09 PM EDT
A1: Praise and appreciate educators' non-tech instructional strengths. Bring coffee and food. Get to know your people. Relationships matter. #ETCoaches
    • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:07 PM EDT
Q1: Tech-resistant teachers may be strongly opposed to our ideas for the classroom. How might we build trust with these “haters”? #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:10 PM EDT
A1. I think trust is built with time and actions. Food is always a plus :). Get to know them and take an interest! #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:10 PM EDT
Lol - yes FOOD! #ETcoaches. Welcome Katherine.

  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:11 PM EDT
A1: Ensure that their voice is heard, i.e., keeping things focused on learning vs tech. And celebrate small wins! #ETcoaches
  • kat_goyette Jul 31 @ 1:11 PM EDT
Absolutely! I always say, Lead with Learning, Never with Tech! #ETCoaches
    In reply to @MKuniya
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:12 PM EDT
I totally agree. We have to connect w/ those who don’t necessarily share the same vision. #ETcoaches

  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:13 PM EDT
Q2: Teachers who lack confidence with technology feel like the poopmoji. How might we provide support to these teachers? #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:15 PM EDT
A2: I’ve found that offering help, or sometimes asking for small favors, builds stronger relationships. Constantly showing #YouMatter #ETcoaches
  • climb3mtns Jul 31 @ 1:16 PM EDT
A: 1 Help them with tech they are required to use (gradebook) and in doing so share a snipit of an Instructional Tech strategy. Laugh and have fun learning. #ETCoaches
  • kat_goyette Jul 31 @ 1:16 PM EDT
A2: I like to create screencast instructions for teachers to view when I am not able to be physically present with them. #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:16 PM EDT
A2b: I don’t want to be someone’s techretary, but often a little helping hand is another way to entering that teachers’s world. #ETcoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:17 PM EDT
Totally! If we’re not having fun, there’s no point. #ETcoaches
    In reply to @climb3mtns
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:17 PM EDT
Great point! Showing that you need the for help also, definitely builds the relationships, trust and confidence! #ETcoaches
    In reply to @MKuniya
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:18 PM EDT
Making it fun is a winning point! #ETCoaches

  • kat_goyette Jul 31 @ 1:18 PM EDT
A2: Modeling, in-classroom job embedded coaching trumps PD. Support these teachers while they teach, this builds confidence. #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:19 PM EDT
Q3: Tech resistant teachers often see coaches as an evaluator. How might we show teachers that we are on their team? #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:19 PM EDT
I really like this. First, it shows that you are willing to take the extra step in the work to create the screencast. Second, it is less intimidating and they can view at their convenience. #ETCoaches
    In reply to @kat_goyette
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:19 PM EDT
    Teaching/content first and technology second. Win-Win #ETCoaches
    In reply to @kat_goyette
  • climb3mtns Jul 31 @ 1:20 PM EDT
A2: I found that they like quick, precise directions. Click here, click here. This helps them build skill confidence fast and allows them to move on to application with confidence. #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:21 PM EDT
Yes! This has been my biggest takeaway after 3yrs of coaching. Just in time learning, coaching, feedback. #ETcoaches
    In reply to @kat_goyette
  • LSilvaWUSD Jul 31 @ 1:22 PM EDT
A1: Figure out what matters most to them. Hear out the rationale behind the resistance. It's rarely just a "will gap". There's typically a skill building opportunity waiting to be discovered. #ETCoaches
    • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:07 PM EDT
Q1: Tech-resistant teachers may be strongly opposed to our ideas for the classroom. How might we build trust with these “haters”? #ETCoaches
  • LSilvaWUSD Jul 31 @ 1:24 PM EDT
#ETCoaches A2: Offer to model with their class, be there as a support as they get started. Praise the process and the instructuonal wins they have, while learning more about where your support will fit best
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:24 PM EDT
    Excellent point! #ETCoaches

    In reply to @LSilvaWUSD
  • climb3mtns Jul 31 @ 1:25 PM EDT
Q3: Get in the classroom and help them with the tech and the students. Sometimes they just need to see you are there to help not train. The trust builds from there and they ask for help. #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:26 PM EDT
Q4: As coaches, we want to encourage tech resistant teachers to put on their adventure hat. How might we foster a culture of risk-taking? #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:27 PM EDT
This will be year I put more time into working with teachers and modeling/selling instructional change. #ETcoaches
  • LSilvaWUSD Jul 31 @ 1:28 PM EDT
A3: It's a common misconception, even with tech users. I am transparent about my motives- supporting them as they support our Ss and try very hard to leave the judgement home. Judgement closes off the relationship. #ETcoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:29 PM EDT
A3: A cognitive coaching model helps here. Keep the conversations focused on learning and instruction. Get the teacher to do the thinking. #ETcoaches
  • climb3mtns Jul 31 @ 1:29 PM EDT
Q4: Tech studies similar to book studies is a safe place to experience failure. CUE comes to mind!! #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:30 PM EDT
Well said. There shouldn’t be hidden agendas. #ETcoaches

#ETCoaches A4: Go with!! When we travel down a new road together, it feels safer. Sometimes Ts just need someone alongside them to feel more courageous.

  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:33 PM EDT
Q5: Tech resistant teachers can see technology as a distraction, a hindrance to learning. How might we address this concern? #ETCoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:33 PM EDT
A4: Again, try to focus on small wins. A step closer into the SAMR waters, e.g., should be celebrated. #ETcoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:33 PM EDT
That is true in ALL relationships. Great point #ETCoaches
    In reply to @LSilvaWUSD
  • LSilvaWUSD Jul 31 @ 1:33 PM EDT
A4: also being transparent about taking risks. I have failed publicly often and it just helps the Ts I support see that trying again is ok. Nothing you do is going to result in blowing up a computer (usually!) Click and see... don't be afraid #ETCoaches

  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:37 PM EDT
A5: Know which tools will support learning with seamless implementation. @quizizz @Socrative can quickly engage students and provide instant feedback. Model that while working Ts. #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:38 PM EDT
A5. I think teachers need to know that we are all on the same page - - content/teaching first and technology second. #ETcoaches
  • MKuniya Jul 31 @ 1:39 PM EDT
A5b: And know that attitude is everything. If something doesn’t work, consider why before just attacking or giving up on the tech. #ETCoaches
  • MrsMHenning - Moderator Jul 31 @ 1:40 PM EDT
Q6: Teachers can feel like the poopmoji if they view technology as one more thing on their overflowing plate of instructional duties. How might we address this concern? #ETCoaches

A6. I think if teachers see how technology can HELP them and SAVE time it is a winner! For example, without @todoist I would forget half of my life :) And you can take a few minutes to set to recurring and never have to type a schedule again! @Seesaw helps communicate. #ETCoaches

  • LSilvaWUSD Jul 31 @ 1:47 PM EDT
A6: Start with timesavers and high returns, tech that really improves quality of life. And when asking Ts to learn something new, consider the plate. Can something be reorganized or scaled back to allow for new headspace to learn? #ETCoaches

I think I feel like this a lot overall!!! I can imagine how those who don't feel comfortable with tech feel, since I generally understand what I am doing - just have too many tabs open in the brain! #ETCoaches - lol.

A7: Goes back to what matters most to Ts. Finding ways to support their WHY and to connect them with Student Centered Learning will make space for the tech to be introduced. Ongoing support in the journey. No one time hits #ETCoaches
