Q1: How much time do you have to discuss the first half and make adjustments for the second half? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A1: In Texas we have 28 minutes of halftime. That provides plenty of time for coaches to come down from the press box and meet with the O and D staff all together, and with the team #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A1. Meet as staff for 5 minutes DC talks to Def for 3-5 minutes OC talks for Off. 3-5 minutes #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachjlord Sep 19 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A1: Halftime here is a 15 minute standard and up to 20 minutes for special halftime circumstances ... can make the time frame crunched #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:17 PM EDT
15 minutes in Missouri unless Homecoming or extended halftime #TXHSFBCHAT

Both school bands play. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes that break provides the step back the team and coaches need to reevaluate the attack #TXHSFBCHAT

Q2: Do you follow a certain protocol for talking with the coaching staff during halftime? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachjlord Sep 19 @ 9:22 PM EDT
Yes, defensively we always eval. Tendencies from our film breakdown through @Sky_Coach from first half compared to Sunday breakdown then we look at “big plays” allowed and any adjustments we may need. Calls that work/didn’t work #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachLA73 Sep 19 @ 9:23 PM EDT
First 5mins coaches talk adjustments and what worked what didn't. Then we go Offense defense group meeting. Full team call up back to the field #TXHSFBCHAT

  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A2. Yes, HC talks to staff gives his thoughts. OC/DC discuss adjustments with staff. Then we come back together. OC/DC narrow focus to 2-3 things to tell kids on each side of the ball #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:26 PM EDT
Q2: O staff and D staff meet and discuss what works, and what we can scrap. No real set time limit, because we do have almost 30 minutes. Then we go and tell our positions and make direct adjustments with them. 7 minutes left, team talk, go out and get loose #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:30 PM EDT
Q3: What are the important things you must know after the first half of play? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:34 PM EDT
A3: I want to know most favorable formations, what our most successful runs are, and how the D is stunting #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:34 PM EDT
A3. 1. What play are they trying to take away 2. Where on the DL are they hurting us 3. Where can we attack them on Defense #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Sep 19 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A3) How are they adjusting to our offensive formations or defensive alignment. What are they doing different from what they did on film? Are they staying true to their tendencies? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:40 PM EDT
Q4: When you address the players, do you do it as a unit, position, or full team? And what do you address with each? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Sep 19 @ 9:40 PM EDT
A3) What plays are working for us and what plays are working for them? Which individual player on offense and defense is causing us problems? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:45 PM EDT
A4. I address the Offense as a unit. 2-3 adjustments. Other offensive coaches will make adjustments with their position groups later as needed. I will talk to QB before going back to press box #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A4: Defense talks to the entire unit, offensively, we talk to each position. Gives the coaches opportunity to get more direct feedback from the kids they coach and provide pointed instruction and encouragement #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Sep 19 @ 9:47 PM EDT
A4) Allow the HC to address the whole team. Then break out into individual, then group, then unit then back to team. For small schools that go both ways...HC, Defense Indi, Group, Unit, Offense Indi, Group, Unit then back HC. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:48 PM EDT
Kinda like a mini practice meeting...I like it! #TXHSFBCHAT

  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:50 PM EDT
Q5: What is the most important thing to go into the second half for your team? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachJonesUHS Sep 19 @ 9:52 PM EDT
Regardless of the score, we coach Attitude, Effort, then Execution. The right attitude and 100% effort leads to execution. #TXHSFBCHAT

  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:53 PM EDT
A5: Not to focus on what the opponent is doing, but rather what we must improve. Control and improve our response and execution #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachadkisson Sep 19 @ 9:55 PM EDT
A5. COMPETE COMPETE COMPETE Play as hard as they can for the rest of the game no matter the score #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Sep 19 @ 9:57 PM EDT
    Great job coaches! #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Sep 19 @ 9:57 PM EDT
A5) Most important is to coach up your kids during halftime. They need coaching not 20 minutes of lecturing. If you're up, play so they can't catch up. If you're down, play with urgency and execute the halftime adjustments. #TXHSFBCHAT
