As usual, before we begin, please introduce yourself and remember to add the hashtag #edchatie into all tweets for the next hour of the discussion
Primary SET, Mayo. Could we get a deeper definition of UDL and perhaps an example from primary, secondary and third level so that we can get out heads around the concept? #edchatie

Kevin here a Teaching Principal using digital technology to implement the curriculum.I also have Irelands first and only Primary School STEAM Room #edchatie
#edchatie Our definition in #ACPS is We will offer alternative representations of information, multiple tools, and a variety of instructional strategies to provide access for all learners to acquire lifelong learning competencies.
I like when they say "It is an orientation to any design process that starts with considering the needs of the user."
This is a good approach to differentiation in learning

#edchatie Leigh from Michigan (I work with higher ed & teacher educators) - we embed UDL into a larger "Learning Design Strategy" https://t.co/vVayxZJaEt
#edchatie one of the problems with differentiation with teachers is that they feel need to do multiple activities where a UDL informed activity will have built in from the beginning
Welcome to tonight's #edchatie discussion on "Should we be incorporating Universal Design for Learning in student teaching/CPD education?"
Great to chat with you again online @gravesle
Liam; background in Post-Primary Science, PhD candidate in Teacher Ed - I'm curious about UDL but not hugely opinionated on the subject. Tonight might help form my opinions! #edchatie
Tonight on #edchatie we're discussing #UDL "Should we be incorporating Universal Design for Learning in student teaching/CPD education?"
Bring your thoughts and questions to the discussion #edchat
Do! I watched the video you posted. I have definitely come across the concept before, or similar concepts. But happy to consume more to get a better picture! Thanks. #edchatie
#edchatie most of the links form part of the online UDL course we host for teachers in Albemarle. I can't share everything as some of the resources are on our Google domain and need a k12albemarle email to access
#edchatie The Irish Centre for Excellence in Universal Design would be a good place for an Irish teacher to start although theri focus is more in physical design than pedagogical https://t.co/3zXjG45tjM
#edchatie Margaret SEN teacher.UDL is about removing barriers to learning. In the past curricula & teaching designed to reach ‘the middle’ then retrofitted (differentiated)to include those either side.A UDL curriculum or lesson is designed with all in mind https://t.co/7jwLEJ0aKc
Would it be fair to say that there isn't anything 'new' in UDL, per se, in terms of what 'good practice' should look like, but that UDL has collated/systematised what we know about good practice into something coherent and that has explicit values? #edchatie
Thanks for hughlighting those other Twitter accounts and especially the #UDLchat - it's what we're discussing tonight on #edchatie with educators in Ireland

Good short course on @ICEPEurope on UDL. Can’t go wrong with @KatieNovakUDL books for more info. Good teachers who integrate edtech already practice UDL - the theory just affirms good practice and serves as an affirming reminder to continue

We're just past the halfway mark in discussing "Should we be incorporating Universal Design for Learning in student teaching/CPD education?"
Great minds.....or fools (never mind). #udl combines my edtech and sen passions.....#edchatie and honestly @johnmayo UDL is on the radar ..... defo for @JCforTeachers anyway
My lens for UDL in Ireland has been the CEAD website and what they share there. I am not aware that they have or employees of have a twitter handle #edchatie

I think those of us talking about UDL assume an awareness that’s not there. Perhaps we need to be explicit when a resource, activity etc is underpinned by UDL so that others can see its full potential #edchatie

If learning outcomes are designed with UDL in mind, if we as teachers interpret them and collaboratively design learning experiences to enable all students to progress, if we can capture evidence of that learning to complete the circle, then we may have some great examples, if...
We've a few more minutes to go before that call #jumpingthegun ;-)
But if there are any more questions . . . You've given us all a great bundle of links in #edchatie tonight already

I must admit I've never heard of UDL before! From the little I've read here it sounds like 'learning styles' packaged up with a different name!
Oh BTW, John here, teacher in Galway #edchatie
My PME thesis last year examined the construct of UDL when considering the needs of children with ASD in a classroom. As an NQT, what I learned has been invaluable to my planing. UDL enables us to consider barriers and create an inclusive learning environment for all #edchatie
