I am Julie, today's moderator and co-founder of #NT2t I live in St. Louis, Missouri and work in higher ed as a tech trainer. Right now we are trending backwards...taking away working remotely.

Hello #nt2t, Ines from Germany, teacher trainer. I think that we can find all trends in classrooms - it's very heterogeneous, depends on educator, subject, settings. Perhaps AR/VR could make a big step ahead, could find its way into textbooks.
Q1: Read Trend 1 on the card and answer the following question: What role does AR/VR have in education? How is it currently used, or how might it be used, in your school? What resources (websites, tools, people, etc.) are available? #Nt2t
A1: Really wondering how AR/VR is appearing around the world in classrooms or businesses in general. Where I work, I don't see much of it but think the med school may be using it. #NT2t
A1: So what do you think? Will AR/VR head into the educational environment? Where will it hit first? Elementary? Middle grades? High school? Higher ed? #NT2t
A1: At PD events where there are stations to "play," I see the AV/VR tools being played with and thoroughly enjoyed! Is it still seen as a game or as an educational tool? #NT2t
If you don’t know where to start on this, follow @JaimeDonally and check out her content. She led us on a virtual scavenger hunt at the #DigCitSummit in St. Louis in September. Fun stuff! #nt2t A1

I have seen great use of AR in visualization in mathematics but I've yet to see more than that; often once a student sees the visualization, they can visualize it on their own without the tool. #NT2t
I haven't seen great learning situations otherwise. A lot of "engagement"
Interesting that you are seeing it in math first. Thinking that it would be a shoe-in for history and science by taking advantage of the immersive environments. #NT2t
Q2: Read Trend 2 on the card & answer the question: Is personalizing learning for every students realistic? How are you/your district personalizing learning for students? What resources (websites, tools, people, etc.) do you have to help us understand/implement this trend? #NT2t
I love examples like these. Just thinking about the educational applications is endless! The learning that can occur by immersing kids in this technology is endless. #NT2t
A2: Personal learning in the rage all over in the USA. As a classroom teacher, sitting there with 25-30 students, how realistic is it that we can personalize learning for every student? #NT2t
Thanks for sharing. With our 4th grader getting interventions in math, I hadn’t heard of this before. Good to know when geometry becomes more of a focus. #nt2t
A2: I think personalisation is needed. But for me it must not stop at #assessment and control. Personalized learning doesn't mean a #LMS which observes the results of learning. It must be an individual support for students. #nt2t
So... I get it; that’s a lot of kids. One human being in the room with few resources, maybe not. But co-teaching and a range of tech throughout the room? Suddenly it’s far more than a single classroom headed by a single teacher. Kids lead their own #PersonalizedLearning. #nt2t A2

Q3: Read Trend 3 on the card & answer: How do you foresee IoT being used in your school or classroom? What are the pros/cons of IoT in education? What resources (websites, tools, people, etc.) do you have to help us understand/implement this trend? #NT2t
Yes, personalizing instruction, etc for sure. I just always thought doing this is math with a room full of kids would be tough because of the limitations of time and testing. #NT2t

A3: Internet of Things (IoT) is absolutely everywhere (hello Alexa!). Is this a good thing for education? As a parent, how comfortable are you with this? #NT2t
A3: I think, of all the trends, this one is the most "scary" because of security issues. Mind you, I Iove how tech can talk to each other & make tasks more streamlines, but..kinda scary when I think about this in education. Am I just dumb to feel so cautious? #NT2t
Let’s start with the con: Kids are stressed with being always connected. We adults strive for a work/life balance. Do students deserve the same, to be virtually away from school when they’re physically away from school? ... #nt2t A3

I think so too, and as an educator, I do like to stay up on things. When I read about these trends I realize how quickly things are changing and how much I have to learn! #NT2t
I think so too, Ines, but it has been identified as a top 5 trend for education. Not sure what this means for education besides what is listed in the trend description. #NT2t
Q4: Read Trend 4 on the card and answer: How might AI be used in education? What are the pros/cons of such use? What impact do see for teachers? What resources (websites, tools, people, etc.) do you have to help us understand/implement AI/big data? #NT2t
A pro is connecting parents, which as many of you know is a pet cause of mine. Parents want to connect with the school and classroom when it’s convenient for them. So I think it’s about meeting different needs of different stakeholders while respecting limitations. #nt2t A3

Yes Jeremy! It's like that with anything tech. The tech does NOT come first...purpose/need comes first and then you find the tech that can meet those needs. So many times it is done backwards. #NT2t

Agree Bashaer. I think #AI might still be in its infancy for education, but I am hoping it continues to grow. I just think the possible benefits are amazing! #NT2t
Q5: Read Trend 5 on the card and answer: How might this trend impact your curriculum? What is your district currently doing to address digital citizenship? What resources (websites, tools, people, etc.) do you have to share with us? #NT2t
A5: I think security is a HUGE TOPIC and concern in education...for all levels! Not only do we need to teach kids about #digcit but what are schools doing to ensure data is safe? #NT2t
A4) Don’t know enough to expand on this, but I’m certainly intrigued at the possibility of more nuanced data to reflect the true complexity of human beings! #AI#nt2t
A4: Interesting that the trend states that educators will begin to see more value in the other data they collect rather than that, which comes from standardized testing. Pretty sure most of us are already there. #NT2t
Yes, means we have to change the system. Do we need classes separated by age? Do we need separated subject? Do we need short phases of learning (45/60/90minutes)? 🤔#nT2t
A5: So as we look at these trends (Ar/VR, IoT, etc.) security seems to be at the core. What are the expectations for companies that are producing these technologies? #NT2t
A4: Forgot to share this resource: "How Is AI Used In Education -- Real World Examples Of Today And A Peek Into The Future” https://t.co/bKzHWeqxTp#NT2t
And how are they balancing privacy with access? Our state passed a data privacy law that hinders access to certain apps and other assistive technology for students with learning and other disabilities. Blanket policies leave people out and contribute to inequity. #nt2t
A5: I think security is a HUGE TOPIC and concern in education...for all levels! Not only do we need to teach kids about #digcit but what are schools doing to ensure data is safe? #NT2t
I found that fascinating too! Looks like the trend is finally catching up to what we as educators have known for years! I'm hoping this is a positive thing that leads to better understanding of how kids learn. #NT2t
Continue learning - This week’s challenge is to reflect on the 5 trends we discussed and select one to focus on this year. Tell us what trend you picked and your plans/ideas for integration in your classroom. Tweet your thoughts/ideas on Twitter and include #Nt2t in your post.
For digital citizenship, following the #DigCit hashtag helps! @digcitinstitute@digcitPLNn etc. I follow these (and attend the #DigCitSummit) as a citizen and parent, as our schools are largely limiting it to lectures about safety. Think broadly and involve everyone. #nt2t A5
