#hiphopedhttps://t.co/7XWQ0CZJOS is a great organization that has a curriculum that allows students to create their own comic strips as a means of building literacy and fostering SEL skills
I agree. I spoke on my IG page about how, even though I’ve watched many superhero movies, this one is the first one that the connection between science & technology stood out to me.

Yes, I think this movie provides a good basis to spark a STEM conversation, and it would be worth going back to previous Marvel movies to compare science & technology among the different scientists #HipHopEd
Got me thinking about MeteorMan, Blankman, Blade, Spawn, Morpheus, I swore Panthro was Black, One of the Ghostbusters a couple GI Joes but #BlackPanther is so much richer #HipHopEd
including a narrative like #BlackPanther does, one of black leaders filled with heart, values, and genius is something all children need to see, hear about, and experience – not just the black kids. #HipHopEd
Agreed. Representation is critical and presents a good entry point for celebration and conversation, but I want to see students navigating their own complex identities through media productions of their own creation. #HipHopEd
I would love to see some student created comics/covers/outlines based on the periodic table of elements. It would be a great way to drive in the properties of each element. How they become stronger/more effective and what can destroy or weaken them. #HipHopEd#blackpanther
It's in my #hiphoped library. As a HS library media specialist, I make sure I have diverse collection of titles & genres in my library. Graphic Novel and Magna are a big hit with my Ss. #hiphopedhttps://t.co/7Fuhj4foyS
Especially because comic book storylines allow for different skillsets and talents to come together for a common goal...especially linguistic and artistic...but also technology and science in the depiction of super powers, etc. #HipHopEd
Just as Wu-Tang and others absorbed films and comic books into their creative worldview, Ss need opportunities (and tools) to absorb, repurpose, and create... #HipHopEd
From a STEM perspective, seeing that sista #Shuri serve as the premiere innovator... #BlackFemaleScientists#hiphoped That conversation in the classroom alone could spark magic...
#BlackPanther is a film to be analyzed, used in support of almost any subject taught in a public school, as well as a movie to continue the loud and proud narration of our historically silenced. #HipHopEd
Many of our youth are into Japanese Anime & Manga...mixing it right into with today's HH Gumbo..Naruto, DragonBall, OnePunch Man & much cooler ones #HipHopEd trying to keep an open channel

Characters of color have been relatively marginalized in comics throughout history. Kids become fans when they can find a character they can identify with and relate to and feel validated by the world around them. Representation matters! #hiphoped
Have students create comic books about worlds that mirror their life experiences. Always easier to engage Ss in discussion of difficult emotional issues through a third party #hiphoped

I'm an Occupational Therapist working in SpecEd and definitely gonna use these ideas to engage students in drawing comics, writing and letting them videotape a script they wrote. #hiphoped
In your #BlackPanther convos with students, talk about what enabled the film's success, and ask them to think of ways they can apply that to their own projects and communities. What would it look like if they supported each other the way they supported Hollywood? #hiphoped
The best comics are creative but based on a reality that is both feasible and inspirational in real life. This is the essence of learning as well #HipHopEd

Black people 100% marketed this movie! 😂 I thoroughly enjoyed every meme, skit, and reminder of what was acceptable attire. #wedidthat#blackpanther#hiphoped

I think they spark the creative imagination of our collective African future which will transfer from media via tech & souls into realities esp. once we see THAT grand self-determined vision #HipHopEd
We're building an AfroFuturist, smart city/autonomous Community outside of the ATL.
Feel free to ask me about the Free The Land Initiative, other tech savvy/creative Communities across the globe & VR/AI 🤗

Have Ss worldbuild & work in teams to explore and build their own forward thinking cities based on their ideals
Create city soundtracks
Roleplay w/ other teams (region)
Collect data
Can translate their work into VR via @unity3d or @tiltbrush so cities are "real" #STEM#HipHopEd
Graphic novels are such a great way to introduce students to complex concepts in a different way - plus, they ignite critical thinking by catering to both sides of the 🧠 #HipHopEd
#BlackPanther brought the intellectual, physical, and emotional prowess of women to the forefront, a good conversation to have with students, compare with the position of women in the world, in hip-hop #HipHopEd
Its also a great opportunity to help students develop media literacy & understand how entertainment machines work. Talk about marketing budgets, cross-pollination with different outlets, brand ownership. Ask who benefits, and how. #HipHopEdhttps://t.co/wfPuZ18beU

Something I struggle with is using comics as a "need to escape from reality," which is a racialized reality. How can we help students unpack it without coming off as preachy? #HipHopEd
Students also can create they’re own graphics retelling important stories. My daughter, a 5th grader, created a fab retelling of #EllaFitzgerald#HipHopEd
I actually appreciated the Black Panther soundtrack more after watching the movie. I listened to it with a more visual connotation and really enjoyed the process #HipHopEd
Hip Hop is vibranium. Colonizers will try to steal it and create fake versions of innovative work in schools. We owe it to students to help them harness their brilliance, and protect their hiphopness, as they grow #HipHopEd
I've never been so excited to see a film, like #BlackPanther, validate the identities of Black folks and women. It's got a friend of mine and me thinking how we can get a character or superhero to capture the diaspora of other racial/ethnic groups. #hiphoped
@dradambanks's book "Digital Griots: African American Rhetoric in a Multimedia Age" should def be in everyone's lib, since his work focuses on AA/Hip-Hop rhetoric. #HipHopEd
Right. It all comes back to voice and being heard. Dominant, one-dimensional narratives give way to complex/authentic constructions as more creative expressions of all forms are produced, recognized, and celebrated. #HipHopEd
The entry point for introducing #BlackPanther into your classroom is easy. It is a movie with an all black cast, a black director, and themes tied to both historical and contemporary black community. #HipHopEd
There remains a tendency to imagine graphic novels and comic books as "lesser" and we have to start addressing that classism in the classroom like we do everything else. I noticed this when i ran my own comics class through curriculum #hiphoped
Yessss. The soundtrack was too dope!! Tons of other joints on there too with folks like Vince Staples, Anderson Paak, SZA, school boy q, etc. #HipHopEd
Comics over the years provide opportunities for time travel in a way that can help students develop their own hypothesis about the present and a projection for their futures #HipHopEd
Comics also have featured Educators in various forms with very impactful roles. The role of the teacher can be reinvented through an examination of comics #HipHopEd
Want to learn more?! Plug into the @FanBrosShow! It's a podcast esp for the Urban #geeks out there. Also covers comics they've copped, sci-fi, film, music & more. Dope interviews
Then 👂to @djbenhameen's, one of the hosts, BP mixtape. It's 🔥🔥 https://t.co/sJb4zZz3uz#HipHopEd
A teacher in the comics helps the students develop the powers that they already have when they meet the teacher. Imagine what our classrooms would be like if we operate from this same premise #HipHopEd

For a movie that reaked of AfroFuturism, I think the FEW African musicians ft on it came off as an afterthought. Def a lost a HUGE opportunity to catch the rhythms and various genres from the diaspora esp the continent. Many of which are exploding ATM. #HipHopEd
Yesss! I've been thinking about this more, especially when I have to teach Shakespeare and other literature from the "Canon." It's not easy work but def rewarding. #HipHopEd
