A2: Kindness is a way for us to make us aware of our own prejudices and projections so we can respect the differences in all of us
Big one, but umm...Is it the school's responsibility to teach kindness?
Hi there! Great to have you with us!
Ts must model kindness above everything else. We can walk in peace and light the way.
It can be taught through Character Education.
“They will imitate us... Let us treat them with all the kindness which we would wish to help develop in them.” Maria Montessori
Kindness begets kindness.
Thanks for a great first Twitter chat experience! I will visit again soon! Good night and KIND dreams!
Thanks for sharing this, Paul!
A3. Modeling, commenting on acts of kindness. Not praise so much, as kindness should come from internal motivation.
Students need to see adults model kindness towards Ss and other adults.

Pick up Mindset for Learning.
A3: Live it. Every interaction with every person every day. As professionals we have no excuse not to. Our actions speak loudly!
A3: teaching abt cyberbullying & empathy: what do u want people to do 4 YOU? what do you wish some1 would say? do that 4them
A3: I also make it cool with our "Doing Good" App building project.
Whole child education can help give us "weight" and credibility in the eyes of our students.
Holidays? Time to show kindness toward support staff, bus drivers, and others with cards, kind words or gestures.
I really believe it is. Our kids are with us for SO many hours everyday. How could we not make time for this?
A3 "Catch 'em being kind!" Students get a star each time they are caught in the act.
Kindness is looking someone in the eyes, and saying, "I get it, life can be hard, and I am here to help make it a little easier."
A3: be positive positive POSITIVE around kids; don't let them talk about other kids or teachers; reframe the convo into positive

Big one, but umm...Is it the school's responsibility to teach kindness?
Well said! https://t.co/Jn1xBsemta
A3: The most powerful way is through modeling. Say kind things, behave kindly; poster with reminders & vocab help
A3 By consistent modelling, getting to know each Ss and building relationships - Ss always respond well to kindness
Get to know them. They understand better what means when we show that WHY they behave matters more than how
A3: It can be taught by modeling random acts of kindness. Ex. allowing another person to go first, saying GM to everyone, etc.
A3: I think a first step is in sharing our stories. We all have meaningful experiences to share. Kindness can start in that space.
A3: Practice, practice, practice. Develop a habit of noticing kind acts, modeling, and giving affirmations. https://t.co/05ZGC49Rfi

Yes...simple actions that reflect the power of being kind. https://t.co/ikPbcybzAD
A3: It can be taught by modeling random acts of kindness. Ex. allowing another person to go first, saying GM to everyone, etc.
agree, but needs to be more intentionally taught. Put it in the standards! :)
We must model the behavior we wish to see.
Q# Writing thank you notes or emails to teachers or other students is a powerful way to make the diff in someone's day.
Our choices for read aloud promote kindness and empathy.
oooh, even assess it, huh? That gets interesting. Good though. "How kind are you, Johnny?"
Nooooo, not the standards, then there will be standardization of kindness and tests, lol.
A3 Build in kindness through collaborative work - how to talk to each other, respond, help, share, teach each other-then reflection!
Action, action,actions! https://t.co/6UpadBRHZ6
Q# Writing thank you notes or emails to teachers or other students is a powerful way to make the diff in someone's day.

is trending on Twitter in
I always say hi to kids by name in hall, give fist bumps & hugs, greet them at the door to the classroom. it matters!
yeah, but photosynthesis! :)
Partner and small group work is also key. Ss need MANY opportunities to practice kindness.
kids are always watching & picking up on things, even when we don't realize (side convos with other teachers, etc)
can you have a standard and not "test" it though? There are other ways to assess
Yes. I agree...very important! https://t.co/5ExGHlZk0J
Partner and small group work is also key. Ss need MANY opportunities to practice kindness.
The most heartbreaking part...sometimes I feel our adults can learn much about kindness from our children.
lol, I know, but you would need your administrator on board.
**Q4**: Is there a way to incorporate kindness as part of our classroom culture through rituals or routines?
haha! By assessment I mean purposefully designing assignments where empathy is required for an enduring understanding
Q3: Also, examining the outcomes of situations where people aren't kind, is key. Show kids why kindness it is vital to the world!
PBL around community can foster kindness. My Ks did a service project for a local animal shelter.
A2: many students don't see kindness modeled in their homes, by their siblings, or even their peers. They must see it to believe
. Incorporate texts that reiterate the point: WONDER ; "Thank You, M'am" Langston Hugges; CINDERELLA (2015)
The compound effect of kindness is astronomical if we model this daily until it becomes a habit!
is now trending in USA, ranking 48
Q4: On a non-academic level, how about starting the day with something positive like a compliment? https://t.co/lCgeulahJF
A4: Taking time to share acts of kindness in the classroom as a part of your weekly ritual. Build community! https://t.co/x4RtsFXS0c

A4: Had a teacher "teach"kindness through Morning Message time. All students had a chance to say 1 good thing abt each other daily.
A4: using projects that rely on collaboration; kids have to learn to work together/help each other/be kind to be successful
Yes! Walking in kindness leads to walking in peace. A peaceful, kind world is what we strive for.
we did it this morning! The genuine smiles were rampant

I love the idea of service learning or
A4: make your room a happy, positive, loving space! I have a big welcome sign and a "happy wall" https://t.co/Q1cBq7rTRF
Yes. I also have Ss give positive comments to each other during /after collaborative work https://t.co/xNrqC7xePE
A4: Had a teacher "teach"kindness through Morning Message time. All students had a chance to say 1 good thing abt each other daily.
Love that! https://t.co/23jtjVhLOz
A4: using projects that rely on collaboration; kids have to learn to work together/help each other/be kind to be successful
I love the idea of service learning projects to foster and promote kindness in the classroom!
A4: It can become a routine in and out of the classroom. We all have expectations & Ss learn what you want them to do. Model it 1st.
Oh how wonderful! So great to hear that you do this as well!
. Incorporate texts that reiterate the point: WONDER ; "Thank You, M'am" Langston Hughes; CINDERELLA (2015)
A4: Colleague of mine has students complete a "Friday Self-Reflection" routine. One could center a weekly question around kindness.
You all have been amazing! One last quick question coming up!
though I am a little squeamish about using the word "standard" in relation to kindness. It should become innate.
They must see us walk the kindness-walk, day in & day out. They must feel it, experience uncond. caring. https://t.co/0aKOZCIDYt
A2: many students don't see kindness modeled in their homes, by their siblings, or even their peers. They must see it to believe
**Q5**: Can we use technology to promote kindness? Please share a tool or app!
I've participated in a "good deeds" scavenger hunt. Great way to promote kindness.
standards are only a way to set a baseline and so that everyone teaches it - if it's innate why teach it?
Agreed. Project-based, Challenge-based 'team' activities that give kids purpose and social roles/acceptance. https://t.co/n64i7mzjtY
A4: using projects that rely on collaboration; kids have to learn to work together/help each other/be kind to be successful
Q5: I use my app to promote kindness. Send positive notes, images and voice clips. :)
